File extensions changed to alb...

My apologies if this question has been beaten into the ground, but I'm a bit confused on the name of the songs file extension in my MP3 player (I have a Sansa e260). I ran the option that corrects errors or corrupted on my MP3 player, and subsequently files (or at least I think) as I tried to access the files in my computer, a window popped up saying that Windows cannot open the file because it contains an extension .alb. I files mp3 music are always marked with the mp3 or .wma file extension, not .alb

I tried to delete files on my MP3 player but can do more now that Windows says that it cannot open the .alb files. Please tell me that I don't have to clear the files from my MP3 player.

Is anyway to change this, or am I worrying unnecessarily?

I would appreciate any information that you may be able to provide.

Sure that the song files themselves have changed? Or you have some sort of software that makes playlists and eventually called alb (ums).

How big are the files .alb (right click on properties)? If they are only a few KB, they are not the songs, they are a kind of textual list. If they are more than 3 MB, then they are good songs, but it would be very strange.

Error, file names checking does not change.

And you should be able to remove any file type you can see - even if Windows does not know how to open it - just by right clicking and pressing DELETE.

But do not get rid of them until you have an idea of what they are.

  • Change the file extension

I use Windows XP Home Edition.  How do you change the file extension when the system cannot open the picture?  It was recorded as "All Files".

Go to control panel, folder (in Classic view) options, go to the view tab and scroll down to find Hide extensions of known file types.  Uncheck the box and click on the file.  Rename the file and change the file extension.

  • The file names changed in wingdings, including the file extension and I can't delete, change them, open, etc. Here are the pictures.

Have (had) a file with multiple files it contains with pictures in each file.  A week ago the pictures were there.  Now, the names are replaced by wingdings as names and file extensions.  When I try to open it, it is not accessible and that the file name, directory name or volume label syntax is incorrect.  When I try to delete it, it says that the file name you specified is invalid or too long and specify a different name.  When I try to rename it, it tells me that if I change the file name extension, the file may become unusable.  If I try to change anyway, it says I've specified file name is not valid or too long.  Only tried for the name 1.  I did a restore in the case where a program interfered with that.  However, nothing has changed.  All of the suggestions.

You can download and try to delete the file Unlocker http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtmlwilh.  Although it is not designed for this particular circumstance, it may very well work in all cases, as it has been very successful in a wide variety of situations are not specifically highlighted in the directions (where do not work the normal Vista options).  NOTE: Some antivirus flag programs this program as a malware, but it is a 'false positive' and is safe to use perferctly.  My own software to flag, but several other well-known software products it clean and the warning is included in the documentation of the program.

I wish there was a way to save the images, but at this point, it seems that the only option is to delete because you can't rename files EHF (if this option is available-I hope that work above).  Unfortunately, System Restore does not affect the files of data, so even if a program caused this, System Restore can eliminate the cause, but it would not restore the files to their previous names.

If you have Vista Business, Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise, you can be lucky because they retain the files called snapshots http://windows.microsoft.com/en-AU/windows-vista/Previous-versions-of-files-frequently-asked-questions.  It can be used to recover previous versions of files that have been changed or deleted accidentally.  Here's how: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/features/shadow-copy.aspx.

If you have Vista Basic or Premium of Vista, you don't have a shadow, but there is a free program for you that does essentially the same thing called Shadow Explorer: http://www.shadowexplorer.com/.  I suggest that you download and implement as soon as POSSIBLE to protect you if you accidentally delete or modify a file.  It will not help you in this instance, but it can help save the next time.

I'm more concerned about why this has happened in the first place and prevent it from happening again.  I saw file names change before, but never of wingdings which then do not let you open, edit, delete, or rename.  We will check some of your system files: go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  If you find any these corrupted files, try to post them here.  Maybe we can replace the good files on the disc.

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  It will scan and try to solve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a cause.

If this does not work, then please post repetitive errors in Event Viewer about the name change (Start / Control Panel / administrative tools / Event Viewer).  Here's how to use Event Viewer: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic40108.html.

If this does not work, you will need to do a repair/system upgrade using the Windows Vista Installation disc authentic (you own or that you can borrow from someone).  Here is the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html as well as the upgrade from an earlier version of the Windows section of the following: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918884.  Although this will not affect your data, settings or programs, you should always back up your data before you start just be on the safe side. If other procedures do not work, it is almost certain to work - but it will probably not fix your renamed files.  You can have a lot of updates to re - install (including all you need to remove service packs).  If the version on system with SP1 or SP2 preinstalled cane and the disc is an earlier version, then you will need to do a slipstream drive as follows: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/151606-vista-sp1-slipstream-installation-dvd.html.

I hope one of these procedures can solve your problem.  If this isn't the case, after return and we will try something else.  Return message anyway so we know how it turns out.

  • DVD Maker changes every time that the file extensions?

Original title: dvd & movie maker whats up with these different files?

I download my video and saves it to a WMV file... then I edit in movie maker and he recorded as wmv, but at other times like a MSWMM file... then I try to publish it in movie maker and it records in a file wmv or sometimes msdvd... why he spends it saves and how this affects the burn process?... it will say 1 file could not be found many times... How can I get these two working smoothly? I have a 32 bit vista

    Hello

When you have finished working on a project, you can publish the project as a film. A film is a Windows Media file with a .wmv file name extension or file Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) with an .avi file name extension.

Project Windows Movie Maker has an .mswmm file extension. For example, myProject.mswmm and the film has a .wmv or .avi file extension. For example Mymovie.WMV or Mymovie.avi.

Changes made to the file extension depending on the actions that you perform in Windows Movie Maker. Change file extensions should not affect the burning process unless the creation of DVD does not support the file format. If the file is not found, it means that the file type is not supported by DVD Maker.

  • Selection of Vista Explorer by default file extension: this can be changed?

By default, in the Vista Explorer, when you select a file name, the file extension is excluded. This behavior can be changed?

    Thank you.

    François

To see file extensions, go to start / Control Panel / folder options / view and presented the box Hide extensions of known file types.  This way you will always be able to see the file extensions.  I have no idea why that is enabled by default because it is very useful and I would even say that it is important.

If you have disabled (or if it's on, incidentally) and you rename a file without the extension, it will lose the file extension and won't open because he doesn't know what kind of file it is.  It's yet another reason for the extensions of files to all files are displayed permanently.  You do not want the name of the excluded file because this would mean that you could not change the types of files because the extension is "locked".  As long as you can see and change, there should be no problem.

When you select a file name in the file extension Explorer is excluded only if it is hidden.  Otherwise you can see.  In any case it's there even if you don't see it (unless you have changed the name and does not include the extension in the new name).

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How can I change my icons for vista file extensions?

Recently for some reason any I just noticed that my icons for file extensions under the symbol icon mp3 music just normal to an icon with a video symbol and a note of music in the same icon. It really bothers me because I'm starting to confuse some of my files, because I think the videos are songs and vice versa. Can someone help me change that?

Try to rebuild your icon cache: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/117229-icon-cache-rebuild.html.  I do not know what will solve the problem in this case because you didn't really explain how the icons changed in the first place, but he frequently works with similar problems.

If this does not work, try the following:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

Type sfc/scannow, go and let it run.  It will scan and try to correct some of your system files (possibly including the icons - once again depending on how they have been changed).  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files usinghttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.  Try to put all the corrupt files here so that we can see if they can be repaired with good copies of the installation disc (unless there are too many).

I hope this helps.  Otherwise, after return and tell me what happened and we'll see what we can try.

  • Why can't I change the action of double-tap by default for a file extension?

With Windows XP, it was possible to change the default action for a file 'type' (IE file extension, because Windows 7 has no notion of a file "type" Despite other operating systems supporting these things for the last 20 years).

Why is it not possible under Windows 7?

Because it was designed by a guy named 'Me', which obviously has not used a computer or visited planet Earth recently, if ever?

Why are all the MS support dumb people on this issue?

Because they would have to admit they lied to their customers when they said Windows 7 was better than XP?

    Its opening called with, no?

No, it isn't. This isn't what he's talking about.

I do not understand your problem and the first link specifically mentions the file extensions.

Batch change/rename the Extensions of files in Windows
    http://www.AddictiveTips.com/Windows-tips/batch-change-rename-file-extensions-in-Windows/

And the Google link also specifically mentions the file extensions too.

See if you can get your hands on this program.  It allows to rename the files so that they have no extension.  Then use it to set a fixed file on these files without extension renamed extension.  It worked for me so it could for you.

    Hello

    1. what version of Windows are you using (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7)?

    2. don't you make changes to your computer before the show?

    Method 1:

Please check if you face the same problem when recording in safe mode or not.

If it starts successfully can be a third-party application or service is causing the problem, then you can perform a clean boot to remove software conflicts

    Step 1:

Start your computer in safe mode with networking

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/advanced-startup-options-including-safe-mode

    Step 2:

A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts. The article below describes how to solve problems in Windows 7 by performing a clean boot. This article also describes how to start the Windows Installer service and how to reset the computer so that it starts as usual. To configure your computer to clean boot see the following link.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

But I was also told that if I went to a particular place on Microsoft Windows, I know how to get the file extensions, so far I have had no luck with assistance here... hoping someone can help.

Session files are located in your profile folder and are named sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak. If you have had an accident, FF load automatically and ask you if you want to use the session crashed.

If you don't have an accident, you can load the last session in FF from the default home page by clicking on the restore session. If you have changed the default home page you can call it by adding on: houses a copy of your FF shortcut. Simply change as follows...
    Then, you will see this...
Click on restore the previous session.

  • Windows Picture and Fax Viewer File Extensions

A few moments ago, I finished a session of 3 hours with Techs two, MS on a problem where MSN BING replaced my Google home page and nothing less than a miracle would help.  In addition, I just started to get a Google page that asked me to prove that I was a human and a robot entering symbols into a box of CAPTCHCA.  Technicians found that my office had acquired a serious virus, unknown name, and finally a level 2 Tech was able to restore Google as my home page.  Hooray!

There are some bonus winnings, but now I have a problem I ask your help to deal with the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer.

Until the technicians tried to solve the problem of Google, I was able to put the captions of the photos that I downloaded via a memory card.  Then I got the card in the reader and before and after moving them to the folders on my dekstop I could type captions under the photos to replace what was there as IMG_0019.JPG.  After I typed everything which, in this case BOLA SETE RED VINYL, I now get a popup that says:

    [Rename

If you change a filename extension, the filw may become unusable.  Are you sure you want to change it?  Yes No]

Feeling cocky and sure that nothing will change in fact I clicked Yes and the photo has disappeared replaced by an icon that I describe.  A lost photo.

After moving safely from the photos in different folders, I tried again to see if I could add a caption but I kept getting the dreaded above popup.  Then I did the photos via Picasa 3 and when I put pictures in the appropriate folders, I found that I could, and safely, add a caption.

Can someone help me with this situation?  I want my old Picture and Fax Viewer because I don't always treat my photos with Picasa and I want to place them in appropriate folders, with good captions under the photos.  Can I pick up my old Picture and Fax Viewer or I'm screwed?

Looks like you need to change the following setting.

Open any folder and go... Tools / Folder Options / View tab on...
Clear (clear) the box "Hide extensions of known file types" / apply / OK.

Now... When you rename a photo... be absolutely sure that you do not delete the file
    extension... JPG for example.

For photos that seem to corrupt now... If you rename them again and Add .jpg
extension, they should return to normal.
