  The most likely cause is a 3rd party antivirus/security program or some sort of system optimizer

  To my knowledge there is no direct function to rename, but you can do this by moving the file and stick with the target file. See the attached example.

  After I enabled "Show hidden files, folders and drives" in 'Advanced settings', I can't yet see in the folder but I know there is a file in this program of WinRAR folder form as pictured below where I opened the case both at the same time.

  It would be possible that the file is marked as a system folder (which is just a check box in properties such as the hidden check box). So in your folder options, uncheck the "Hide protected operating system files" and see if it will be visible.

  Or another thing to try: remonter back a level, hold down SHIFT while you right-click the complete file and choose "Open command window here", then type DIR to see if the file is listed.

  Our vCenter VMware Server (4.1.0) is a virtual machine. The vCenter Server database is stored on a SQL Server that is also a virtual machine. The configuration files for the server vCenter and file a vmdk are located on a data store and the other vmdk file is located on another data store.   I have my old laptop computer hard drive connected to my new. I want to import my favorites but can not find the file because it is hidden. When I try to access the file options and click on 'See the hidden files', apply, then OK, the folder appdata still does not show. When I return to the folder options, the button "View hidden files" is unchecked. I tried to make hidden files visible on the new laptop & the old drive hard but can't seem to understand.

  Also, when I enter E:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles (change user & the drive letter), result is found.

  I really need these bookmarks, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

And I thought that maybe it's a hidden file, so I decided to show the hidden files for 1 file but somehow he eventually go in the folder c: Program Files, and when he says that you want to show all hidden for this folder files I said yes. And then the team is down. I have no more recognizable files and filenames have changed not to mention there are now 1 folder with more than 10,000 files in there that I have no idea what to do with them. I can sometimes use the search engine on the start menu and locate the file I'm looking for, but if I try to go to the location of the file, it's just a mess when need me it I don't recognize anything that should be in this folder. So far it has not affected the performance of my computer just my ability to perfom tasks on my c: drive. If someone can tell me please how to restore to its correct state. I searched directory fixing programs watched through the forums watched even though windows has installed a magic button that would have but all the files in order and hide files that need to be hidden again. Help, please!

  That does not "response" from MS Support Engineer Umesh was particularly useless.

  Unfortunately for you, the HCL XP (or Windows Catalog or Windows Marketplace or whatever it is renamed) no longer exists.  I guess Microsoft is not particularly interested in letting you know what the material is compatible with an operating system that is no longer, it sells and supports only.

  The trail begins here: "the latest Windows XP Hardware Compatibility List" (314062 KB) that leads to theWindows 7 Compatibility Center.  KB 314062 is also linked to the http://www.windowsmarketplace.com/ which used to have a list of compatible with XP hardware and software, but now redirects to the Microsoft store, another dead end that XP is concerned.

  If you really want to dig, your best bet is probably used the Wayback Machine (archive.org) looking for old copies of
