Fingerprint reader has disappeared

My laptop (HP Pavilion entertainment notebook pc) was purchased with a fingerprint reader, which worked well until the updates have been installed this morning!  You are prompted to download multiple updates in my HP message center, I did.  Now it says I have to log Windows & all my websites with a master password.  Until that time, I had been connecting with a fingerprint.  Now I said there is no device associated for this action.

How can I fix it?

Kelly,

Welcome to the HP Forum.

Try this:

  • Close all your programs and shut down your computer
  • Unplug everything (little unifying for the keyboard / mouse external can stay)
  • Perform the Hard Reset for your laptop
  • Start the computer and connect

Reminder: Hard Reset is just a device to reset.  The procedure to hard reset does not erase your files or it destroys your Windows installation somehow.  It's just "clears the cobwebs".  Depending on the cause of the problem, this kind of "reset" can fix a variety of computer problems.

If you need more information, we will need to know the exact HP SimplePass version you are running.

To find:

  • Open a file (called Windows Explorer before Windows 8) Explorer window
  • Navigate to:

C:\Program Files (x 86) \HP SimplePass\

  • Right click on SimplePass.exe
  • Click on the Details tab > read "File Version".

Click on the thumbs-up Bravo !

It's a nice way of saying 'Thank you' for help.

While I strive to reflect best practices of HP, I do not work for HP.

    Hello

Today I met the first serious question with my brand-new R830 - after some sleep/RESUME States and movements of laptop, device fingerprinting has disappeared from the list of available devices.

First of all, I could see that it works properly, but I couldn't start fingerprintreader software or open a windows session but after installation of the site Web of Toshiba fromt pilot, it disappeared completely.

    Someone saw something like that?

Thank you in advance for help.

  • Fingerprint reader has stopped working after update vV1.0.3.49

I recently downloaded from Toshiba and installed Fingerprint Utility V1.0.3.49 (tc00407400c.exe) and since my fingerprint reader has stopped working.
The software opens but usually recognizes my fingerprints and can not connect any other way.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and same result.

Device Manager says device works ok.

May I ask what model phone you have and what system do you use?

Probably, you need to delete stored fingerprints and after restarting again, you should try to register new fingerprints using the software update of fingerprints.

    Have you tried that?

My fingerprint reader has stopped working. I can open the Simple pass identification program but when I click on fingerprints, it indicates 'identity check' with an hourglass on the top of the icon of fingerprints, and no matter how long I wait, that's all that happens. All advice appreciated.

    Hi Mikey,

Looks like you're running the Digital Persona of SimplePass flavor.

Two things to consider / try, in order.

If the reset works, you don't have to reinstall the driver...

    • Hard reset
    • Reinstall the driver

    Hard Reset:

Sometimes, all you need to do is the computer suddenly.  This method works for a variety of connection and "glued" program issues.

    • Disconnect all the external devices first.
    • Remove the AC power and battery
    • Press and hold the power button while in the minus 30 seconds
    • Reinstall the power supply for the first start only * see Note
    • Power on - connect
    • Next time you shut down the system, replace the battery.

    * Note: You can ignore the little battery aside.  If you wish, replace the battery the first time and do it with her.

Validity fingerprint sensor Driver sp52354 V2.1.0.2

    • Install the validity sensor Driver installation package: it if called sp*.exe - the package will be most likely located in the downloads folder.  If you have control of "Admin", you can highlight the package and "double-click on ' to install it, otherwise just right-click, select"Run as Administrator"and install.

    I hope this helps!

  • on dv6 fingerprint reader has stopped working after installing Norton 2012

Fingerprint reader has stopped working after installing Norton Internet Security 2012 on both of my notebooks from HP.

    Product name: HP Pavilion dv6

    Operating system: Windows 7 64-bit

Error message in Device Manager under biometric devices in Device Manager displays an exclamation mark beside validity sensors (WBF) (PID = 0018). The following message is under the general tab: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) ».

Driver is present and seems to be up-to-date.

    Appreciate your help.

I have finally isolated the problem of my software lack of HP dv6 fingerprint reader. I think Norton Removal Tool, available online at www.symentec.com/nrt, was the reason. I am sure this conclusion because the exact same problem occurred after I installed Norton Internet Security 2012 on laptop HP same as my wife. I tried, in vain, to uninstall and reinstall the driver for the biometric fingerprint device provided by Validity Sensors, Inc.

After spending a day and a half to try to "solve" the problem, I decided to restore my system and go back to the prior agreement of the point of the installation of Norton. Thank you HP to make this process quick and painless. Don't forget that if you installed anything after the restore point, it will have to be reinstalled.

Fortunately, there's a less intrusive on CD of Norton removal tool. This utility uninstalls an older version of Norton you are requested to restart and then installs the latest NIS. It is a method of removal safer that wide brush offered by the Norton Online link, which wipes everything remotely suspect.

After reinstalling Norton Internet Security 2012 from the CD, everything works as it should, including the fingerprint reader.

  • Nine T450s and fingerprint reader has stopped working

I know that many people have had this problem but I can't find the solution. One of the sons of 2014 has a "resolute" response but all that says is "it seems to have solved my problem." Left, wondering what solved the problem...

I've had this computer for a week. The fingerprint reader worked fine until yesterday. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I connected an old drive to write DVD on USB port to try and install an old software. After that, the fingerprint reader is is more light up or work. The driver seems to work fine in Device Manager, but when I open the fingerprint reader app I get a message saying that the drive is not connected.

It's a problem that remained to still unresolved and unanswered by Lenovo or is there a solution can someone tell me?

Any help will be much appreciated.

UPDATE: support said that the keyboard is what has been the cause of the problem and replaced the keyboard. The drive works fine now.

I have upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 and after a few hours I decided that I didn't like it particularly because of hardware problems. When I went back to using Windows 7 I realized that I had Adobe Acrobat reader and that I could only open PDF in my browser. In addition to this, I can not re - install Adobe Reader. I get the message below:

The feature you are trying to use is on an unavailable network resource

Click OK to try again or enter a different path to the folder containing the installation package 'AcroRead.msi' in the box below.

By clicking OK, does nothing. I get the same error message.

  • Fingerprint Reader has suddenly stopped working

I turned on the computer two days ago and my drive would not drag my impressions. He worked without a problem and I've had the computer for a month and a half. It is brand-new and came with the system of Windows 8 is not a matter of the upgrade and not be compatible with each other. I have it unpin in my bar of tasks well, but I don't see how that could have just completely removed the software from my computer. And delete it seems to have done because I searched the small player program and come to nothing. It is available for download on the site of HP for the Verisoft but he says that it is only compatible for WIndows Vista and 7. I don't want to unnecessarily download programs, however, unless I know it will work for me? Any ideas?

It's working now. Simplepass program came unexpectedly when I register for something then I fiddled around and that fixed it. Thank you

  • Re: Tecra Z40, Win 8.1 - malfunction of the fingerprint reader

    DESCRIPTION OF THE PROBLEM:

My Tecra Z40 arrived with Win 8.1.
From the beginning I couldn't use the fingerprint utility.
When you access the utility won't happen for a while and then the error: "Could not connect to the fingerprint reader" has finally popped up.

I could also not use the actual construction of fingerprints 8.1 Win (error: this device has biometric devices is not suitable). (PS mind that this built in function is now integrated into the subway and no device biometric parameters are not now present in the control panel to 8.1 win!)

The problem has persisted despite the last fingerprint utility (which comes with the drivers) have been installed to win 8.1. 64-bit directly from the website of TOSHIBA and despite that a biometric device was still present in the Task Manager ("this device is working properly").

    SOLUTION:

After literally weeks of research (including getting help from the shop and service Toshiba), I could finally solve the problem.

I uninstalled the driver and the reader of fingerprints from the Device Manager (then only fingerprint reader drivers really disappear).
Then I cleaned the registry (I used CC cleaner software) (or install new wasn't a reason any).

Finally, I installed a Fingerprint Utility equivalent and the driver for Tecra Z50 (fp - sw - 20140605164020.zip) (which I expect to be using the exact same sensor)... and since then everything works fine.

I can now access the utility of fingerprinting and fingerprint log on in Windows.

    SUGGESTION OF CORRECTIVE MEASURES:

It seems the driver on Toshiba support website (I think for me it was the Poles) for my exact machine (made by TOSHIBA - detector.exe) is incorrect.
To make matters worse the driver does not communicate useful information on his miss - fit in the Task Manager! If I had to recalculate, in money, as long as I have and a whole lot of support persons had spent on it, there really meaning to improve this list of drivers!

(PS: one of the files in the same directory online regpatch has a virus (VIRUS A Yes) it has been recognized by Antivir!) -Toshiba, you can communicate with someone responsible for the Polish support site!)

    OUTSTANDING ISSUES:

No fingerprints, login is possible in Mozilla or Internet Explorer despite the appropriate plugins have been installed as well as the utility of fingerprints, where the web password option has been activated. (no suggestion seems to appear to reach the service fingerprints for the sites that require passwords, maybe that your service gets blocked by popup blocking browser protection?).

I'm really looking forward to this feature.
Make sure that the plugins work correctly with the latest browsers.

    Greetings

Hey thanks for this interesting thread and a detailed description.

  • Pavilion dv7 6051ea: how to get the fingerprint reader works on Windows 10

Just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro for Windows 10 Pro. The fingerprintreader has stopped working. I find the possibility to set up, but the installation is grayed out as long as no driver available. Can't find one on any forum support? Anyone else having this problem and sorted it please?

On August 11. I've been running Windows 10 updates on a daily basis since the upgrade and now after a reboot of the fingerprint reader has started working? and remembered my impression as well. I guess that Microsoft dropped in a fix for this (which works for me) then maybe something to try?

  • Tecra R940 - fingerprint reader does not

    Hey,.

A few days ago I was on my Tecra R940 and I got the messages re, a USB device unplugged series. I do not think it a lot at the time, but since then my fingerprint reader has stopped working.

I can not connect via fingerprints, and when I run the utility of fingerprints, he says: "unable to connect to the probe.

I ran the test of Toshiba PC diagnostic tool and it passed everything except the Modem test (I jumped, do not have a telephone line).

Any ideas on how to diagnose this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated!

    > I can not connect via fingerprint, and when I run the utility of fingerprints, he says: "Failed to connect to the sensor.

If the fingerprint sensor is available, it must be in the Device Manager.
I would recommend that you go to Device Manager and check if the fingerprint sensor is listed there.

Note: in some cases the option of fingerprints is available in BIOS and fingerprints can be enabled or disabled it. That's why I also recommend to check this option.

Where the fingerprint sensor appears not in Device Manager and in BIOS of fingerprints is activated, I guess that hardware malfunctions and this can be solved by the replacement.

  • Qosmio X 500 - 11 d: Fingerprint reader question and webcam problem

    Hello

I am the owner of a portable X 500 - 11 d of Qosmio computer and I ran into a few problems these last time:

    1. After installing windows 7, the fingerprint reader has worked flawlessly for about a month, but now the login screen of windows 7 not poster not the option to connect with the fingerprint and when I try to start the utility of fingerprint toshiba it gives an error could not connect to the sensor.

The strange thing is that I can't find the finger print sensos under Device Manager. Windows just does not detect it. I tried to reinstall the drivers and software, I've updated the bios but nothing works.

    2. the camera on the laptop, it is installed properly (the said driver is ok) but when you use the image is all black. I should mention that the blue light turns on when you use the camera.

I tried to find a solution to the fingerprint issue o the forum here, but nothing has been using, hope someone knows how to solve.

    > The strange thing is under the Device Manager I don't think the impression sensos finger; Windows just does not detect it. I tried to reinstall the drivers and software, I've updated the bios but nothing works.

    Well, I m sure this laptop model X 500 - 11 d supports the fingerprint sensor.
Please set the BIOS to default settings and check if there is a BIOS setting that can enable or disable the fingerprint sensor.

    > 2. The camera on the laptop, it is installed properly (the said driver is ok) but when you use the image is all black. I should mention that the blue light turns on when you use the camera.

I had the same problem. In my case, that the room was too dark and the cam didn't work well. I had covered the lens of the webcam and after that I withdrew my finger from the webcam, webcam worked again. Notes; the room was very bright and the probe could catch the environment. I don't know if this could help Mr. maybe, you need to uninstall the webcam software before you try this procedure

  • Fingerprint reader not working not not after sleep

So, I've mentioned this problem in a previous post and was directed here http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67245 which is a patch that could solve this. This patch did not work. What happens when my laptop back to sleep or the fingerprint reader does not, it says "waiting...". "the top of the screen instead of the normal scan message and don't answer not, or in some cases when I click on other identifying information, it shows a third account (first is my account, second is the account of the player, and the third is a thing stop sign that says that the fingerprint reader is not attached). When I connect with my normal password and try to go to the fingerprint software, it appears a bit is window that is labeled Digital Footprints Lenovo 2.0 and the message "Please wait...". ».

Other then returning to sleep the fingerprint reader has been working well. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you.

    Edited to add link patch.

Well, I was still functioning, but I'm not exactly sure how. I'm going on what I've been through so that you guys can get an idea and fix if necessary. To start I spoke to Ms support and I worked with them for a very long period. They tried different drivers installation (other AuthenTec then) and every time we did it he would say "Fingerprint reader is not available" at the opening of the session. They have tried to change the power settings and devices that could wake up from my computer and that had no effect either. I called Lenovo and they basically just told me to download the software that was already on the computer and change the option to have it wake up the computer, which does not exist. They were very helpful.

What eventualy get it working (and it's been working so far), is to uninstall the driver and software. Then reinstall everything and install the patch link above. The first time I install it, I just double clicked on it and went through the installation process. But you must go to the folder, he settled in (C:\DRIVERS\VISTA\FPIRPON\) and double click on FPIRPOn.reg which will add the fix in the registry. In addition to this I also went into the Device Manager and unchecked the box that allows the computer turn on of the fingerprint reader under properties-> the power management of the device. The last thing I did was make an edition of registry to force reset USB every time that wake from sleep. I found the registry change here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928631/en-us.

So I'm sure it's the patch that fixed when I installed correctly it because I tried both the thing of power management to prevent of turns off AND editing the registry and it did not work. I also thing that Vista SP1 solves what the registry edit did, but I tried anyway because I was desperate haha. I'll cancel the registry change and thing of management one of power at a time and see if it still works. If it does not continue to work I guess it's a hardware problem and want to call Lenovo to get it repaired.

Anyone who has this problem I would say that they are trying the patch in the link I posted (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67245) and follow the installation instructions carefully. Good luck!
