Force Windows 7 install branch LDR/QFE Hotfix (reg entry?)

Acording to KB897225 , you can use the registry to force updates to fix Internet Explorer to install the QFE versus files an update/patch LDR branch

  1. Click Start , click run , type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK .
  2. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  3. Point to new , click DWORD value , type QFEInstalled to name the registry entry, and then press ENTER.
  4. Right-click QFEInstalled , click modify , type 1 in the value data box to assign a value of 1 to the registry entry and then click OK.

Question: Is there a similar registry entry that will force Windows XP , Vista or 7 updates to day doing the same thing, instead of the version of GDR files, it installs the version of LDR branch?

Hello

you are also a member of phpcs.com. Cluberti answered present year last for Vista/7. You must extract the cab and use pkgmgr.exe to install the update_bf.mum (http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=136644).

For XP, you must use the /B switch (/ b:SP3QFE), if you want to force the Installation of the hotfix QFE version.

  • How to use the /b switch to force patches to install?

I had the problem that is described in the 980333 hotfix (i.e. the right margin of only the first page gets cut off when printing html email in Outlook 2003 with IE8 installed) but this hotfix will not install on a XP system. I have found a solution to the http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_programs/outlook-express-6-outlook-2000-and-outlook-2003/8e795be3-aa51-4d98-be2a-fdd28d886d19thread.

I did the following based on this thread:

1 has begun with an installation of XP SP3 updated with IE8 installed. At this point, I have the right margin bug in Outlook 2003.
2 uninstall the last update of security for IE8, which for me was KB2792100. Restarted.
3 renamed ieframe.dll in C:\Windows\System32 to ieframe.old. Ieframe.dll manually copy the LDR version in the second most recent Cumulative Security Update for IE8, which for me was KB2761465 in the C:\Windows\System32 folder. That version LDR is located at C:\WINDOWS\$hf_mig$\KB2530548-IE8\SP3QFE and is the version 8.00.6001.23458 (longhorn_ie8_ldr.121026 - 1635). Windows Update to install an update that I ignored. Restarted.
    4. check that the right margin bug is now fixed. Windows Update failed to inform me that the most recent Cumulative Security Update for IE8 was now available for install, so I went to start - all programs-Windows Update which has open IE8 and found the KB2792100 so I installed. Restarted.
    5. check the ieframe.dll version that was in my C:\Windows\System32 folder and it was the version of ldr (not the version gdr) as hoped. Confirmed that the bug of the right margin is always fixed.

6 Windows Update says that kb2792100 is ready to be installed. But I just installed that. So I installed again. There is no error message. I opened Outlook or something and Windows Update says KB2792100 is ready to be installed. Restarted. (Once without installing updates, then stop again with the installation.) I get this update request.

    7. I used Windows Restore to restore to a point before step 1 above.

    8. now, I no longer receive the message Windows Update but I am back to my emails in print. The C:\Windows\System32\ieframe.dll is now: 8.0.6001.19394 (longhorn_ie8_grd.121220 - 1544) with date 26/12/2012 15:16.

    My system is/has:

    IE version: 8.0.6001.18702

    Outlook2003

    Windows XP Professional: 5.1.2600 SP3 Build 2600

    PC x 86

I don't know if using Windows Restore was not serious (or if he's going to still more dirty things in the long term). How can I undo what I've done (i.e., the fix of Michael who worked well for me)? So, how can I force the installation of the LDR files (I read the article 897225)? First I uninstall KB2792100 or just try to reinstall with the switch/b?

    Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Here's what I did to make it work:

I went into Control Panel and set up automatic updates to "download updates for me, but let me choose when to install them."

A few days/weeks later, put automatic told me there are updates downloaded, so I chose
"Custom" install rather "Express". Then I saw there was an update of cumulative security for IE8 (kb2817183). I stopped automatic updates install it by unchecking the checkbox. Based on other threads, I know to get my impression of html to work, I need to install the version of patch (which is not the version of GDR) of the KB2817183.

It may be a good idea to create a restore at this stage point.

Now, to find the KB2817183 files that have been downloaded but not installed during automatic updates:

In my computer, I searched KB2817183 and found the following:

    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\5dd0b02c82ca92ea3c2da6ad75887354\update\KB2817183-IE8.cat

In that same folder, I found:

C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\5dd0b02c82ca92ea3c2da6ad75887354\update\update.exe (this file is important so that this works.)

I went to start, then run..., then type

    C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\5dd0b02c82ca92ea3c2da6ad75887354\update\update.exe b:SP3QFE

    and click OK.

The installation of Software Distribution program ran, and I followed the instructions.

In the end, the Setup program tried to restart, so I stopped and turned on the computer.

My html emails now print correctly. Yay!

You cannot format the drive Windows is installed on to in
Windows. It's like sawing the branch of a tree, you are sitting
    on.

What is your purpose here? You want to reinstall Windows properly?

If so, just boot from the Windows CD (any version) and follow the
guests for a clean install; the installation will begin by
    formatting the drive.

  • Pavilion x 2 10-n010nl: WINDOWS NOT INSTALLED

"installation of windows: is impossible to complete the installation." to install windows on the pc restart installation.

If I press 'ok' this message returns and the same thing with the 'X '.

    What can I do?

    Thank you

OK, so let me correct me on the tools.

You will need another Windows computer with an internet connection, a 8 GB USB key.

Your Pavilion x 2 has already a normal USB port, so you don't have an OTG adapter or an external keyboard.

On another Windows machine (laptop or desktop), you will need to install the Microsoft Media creation tool. Download 32 bit or 64 bit to match the other PC you borrow to make USB install drive with.

    Windows media 10 creation tools

Once installed, launch it. When it opens, follow these steps:

Choose "Create install to another PC media" and click Next.

Select the desired language. Select Windows 10 House. Architecture, choose 32-bit (x 86) and click Next.

Select a USB flash drive and click Next.

Make sure that the correct drive letter is selected for your USB Thumb drive. He will probably want to name ESD - USB by default, and it's ok. Click Next.

It will start to download Windows 10 and create the version installed on the USB key.

Now that your installation drive is made, you can use it to install Windows 10 on x 2 flag.

Makes sure that your battery is fully charged and the power is connected.

Insert the installation disk USB that you just created in the USB port.

Make sure that no other things aren't connected except the USB thumb drive, mouse cable and power.

Turn on the Tablet and quickly start pressing the ESCAPE key to bring up the Start Menu in the Bios.

Select F9 for Boot Device Options.

The TOP or bottom of the arrows on the keyboard to select the USB.

The USB key can start the installation or might open a window asking how to make the recovery. If so, select the program in the media.

NOTE: IF the USB is not an option to select, you need to go back into the Bios and disable Secure Boot and / or also to activate Legacy Boot. Here, the link to the instructions for it and it will be the same for almost all HP computers.

    How to disable Secure Boot

Once that Windows is installed, you will be asked to enter an activation key to continue.

Choose to ignore this and allow the installation to continue. When Windows finally installed it can ask you again the key.

Pass it again and let Windows update or force it to be updated manually. When it updates, it will be activated automatically. It will because you already had 10 Windows updated, work and previously enabled on this computer.

If all goes well, I didn't confuse you again. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • The Installation of VMWare tools failed. In any case to force the update/install VMWare tools?

I used to use VMware Workstation 10 and recently upgraded to VMware workstation 11.  However, whenever I try to install a newer version of VMware tools, it will fail with message saying something like "VMware Tools can be installed in the Virtual Machine.

Yes, I am trying to install VMware Tools within the guest operating system, but I get this notification for all my virtual machines, I'm running.

I'm under 6 Virtual Machines simultaneously and they run on Windows 7 32 bit OS and configured with 4 GB of RAM, 1CPU, 100GB HD + 5 GB second HD for the swap file, NO printer, no sound card.

For each virtual machine, I changed about 50 + key of Windows registry and detect the values to hide from all the programs that they are running on the virtual machine.

I assume due to records, I changed, it confuses VM installer who it is not running on a Virtual Machine.  Then I tried to change all these registers changed to send it back to the original value, yet I is always the same message.

I must be missing either some registry values or values that I restored is false. But I don't know which is the case.

I can simply delete all my Virtual Machines and start again with the new virtual machine, but I don't want to repeat this process whenever a newer version of the VM tools out. and installation of windows and search and replace registry values for each virtual computer is full of works.

So, here is my question.  Anyone know how to force the update / install VM tools in my virtual machine?

P.S. I added under scripts in the file .vmx for each of the virtual machines.  I don't think it would cause the problem but just in case I include it.

    Hello Lara.

IF you have updated from 8 to 8.1 and the process was interrupted during installation, this may damage the disc and therefore locked error. "Refreshing" the system would not be the answer that you need to clean install Windows 8 again. 8.1 update can break the bond of the recovery partition, especially if it has become corrupted as indicated.

You must clean up the installation with the recovery discs, you must have created before you updated to 8.1.

In addition, if you do not have the recovery disks, you can buy a set of HP or install a regular copy of Windows 8 and then update the drivers manually. HP has the Windows key now integrated into the bios.
