  • Computer froze during the upgrade/installation of windows xp

I have windows xp home edition on a Dell desktop computer. I had problems with the computer freezing and then lost the connection to the internet 3 days ago. So I decided to reinstall windows xp from cd. However, I have chosen upgrade, rather than new install (because it was the suggested method). Now my computer will not complete the upgrade but is frozen during the installation. It remains to 32 minutes until the end. I can't seem to start, can't control/alt/delete or whatever it is. If I unplug my computer and launch it then again once, it resumes where it left off. How can I break out of this loop and start over with a fresh install? Thank you.

OK, it would have been better to have all the information on this machine in one place. I guess your question in the other post you made about activation is for the same computer? If this is correct, then the information I gave you in your previous post is not applicable.

With Dell computers, using Dell reinstallation media, you don't need to enter a product key during installation and the operating system is already activated.

If you use a different XP installation disc that was not provided by Dell, this is why you are experiencing activation problems. If you do not have a Dell brand installation CD, you will need to use a manufacturer OEM generic system disk and use the product key on the label of CA certificate on your computer. If you use a copy of XP retail, you would use the product key on the CD to copy the retail case. In the case of the generic OEM drive, it must be the same version of XP that came with your computer (Home/Pro/MCE).

All that being said, your sound of questions as a material. Did you leave all devices attached during the repair facility? If so, this can also cause the problem. Unplug everything except (obviously) your mouse and your keyboard when doing an operating system install. You should ensure that the material is solid before attempting to install again.

Understand that all your data will be lost. If you save before, try to start with Linux Livecd such as Knoppix and copy the files to an external hard drive. Then download a utility from drive to drive mftr site. or use a third-party (Acronis Disk Director, Knoppix gparted) start Disk Manager to delete partitions on your hard drive and format the drive.

Now, do a clean install of Windows, preferably using a Dell XP installation CD. Install Dell drivers for all your hardware when you're done, restore data from backups. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Should I apply the different computer names to my Win7 32-bit and 64-bit installations?

I have Win7 Pro x 64 (64-bit) retail installed on my first hard drive and Win7 Pro x 86 (32 bit) OEM on my second hard drive (such as insurance, in the case that some of my programs and games do not run in Win7 64 bit).  At the beginning of each installation, Win7 request your screen name and the computer name.

Given that the two Win7s are installed in the same machine, and I have another hard drive as my Backup Master, should I give my Win7s the different computer names?  I think I have to, because I think I run the risk of my backup of 64 - bit crushing my 32-bit backup and my 32-bit crushing my 64-bit support. whenever I run a backup of a BONE followed by another...

If you have both installed on separate partitions/hard disks, they are considered separate or computers, facilities so yes, both must have unique names.

Whenever I turn on my computer I get a box that pops up and say "Update: there is an error during installation." Please reinstall the application"How can I do this?

Original title: when I turn on my computer

You should consider carefully as pop - up and determine what application has a problem.

If he has no idea anywhere in the pop - up, first physically disconnect your computer from the Internet (because in the following steps, you will temporarily disable your antivirus software).

    • Click Start and type "msconfig.exe" (without the quotes) in the search box and press ENTER.
    • When the "System Configuration" window opens, select the tab "start".
    • Uncheck the half of the listed items (for your convenience, click on "Startup Item" in the column header to sort the items alphabetically)
    • Click OK and restart (click here to avoid the warning that you are in a diagnostic mode)

If the pop-up warning does NOT appear, the problem application has been one of the items you unchecked.  If this is the case, reopen the System Configuration and check again half of the elements that had checked you.

Similarly, if the pop-up warning appears, then the application problem is that remained turned on. In this case, open the Configuration of the system, again check the items that you had disabled, then uncheck half of the remaining items.

    • Restart and continue the process until you have identified the problem application.
    • Once you have identified the problem application, open System Configuration once more, select "Normal startup" on the "Général" tab and restart.
    • Do not forget to reconnect your computer to the Internet
    • Uninstall or reinstall the application issue.

  • WU is blocked during installation of updates - but does not freeze

    Hello

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional on my new PC. It worked well; After that, I installed mainboard and video drivers and then some games.

Then I noticed that I was not activated Windows Update during installation, so I started the update manually. Download worked, but the installer is stuck to the update 10/59. I then tried to cancel the update (the "Cancel" button was clickable, then the program do not freeze) but nothing happened. So I rebooted the computer...

I tried to update again, but WU is now stuck at 8/59. I don't know what to do; There is no error message or anything. The only way to cancel the update is by restarting the PC.

FYI: I waited like 2 or 3 hours, but WU did not progress.

Thank you very much for the help!
