Get a strange IPv4 address of the DHCP server
Hi all
As title, I got a strange IP - DHCP server 169.254.XXX.XXX.
I used Wireshark, tried to get the bootp packets. I found that my laptop 169.254.xxx.xxx used as source address to send DHCP Discover.
In addition, there is an option called content with 169.254.xxx.xxx requested ip address. Like my source address.
I couldn't access the Internet with this IP address.
I was wondering, is that it is a normal behavior for windows 7 to use 169.254.xxx.xxx to send DHCP Discover?
A DHCP request is sent through the universal 255.255.255.255 broadcast address which is one of the addresses that a server is listening. The query includes the MAC address of the applicant unit because at this point, it doesn't have an IP address. The DHCP server responds to the MAC address in order to assign the address.
In your case, the range 169.254 is called the APIPA address and the PC actually assigns to himself because he did not see a response from the DHCP server. As you refer to Wireshark having a reading of the present.
http://wiki.Wireshark.org/APIPA
The customer may not send the request via this address and get a response because the DHCP server is not listening on the address or by using the range. The answer must be done via the Mac.

Client DHCP is unable to get a valid IP address from the DHCP server.
Client DHCP is unable to get a valid IP address from the DHCP server. I have a home edition of Windows XP attempts to connect to my router wirelessly with wireless or wired connection but I get an error in Event Viewer with the discription DHCP 1007 error message. From what I researched, I discovered that the DHCP service depends on the AFD, TCP/IP and NetBT services. All these services are correctly place and worked very well (even the DHCP service is running without error) but every time I try to release/renew my IP address I receive than DHCP warning in the case where the viewer and I just cannot get a valid IP address of the server (router) I also have one of these verizon wireless G3 usb adapters and it works fine. I also have a good ping back when I try to do a ping localhost (for the closure) I also tried the preinstallation of uninstalled drivers from the adapter/s and nothing works. The only entrees in the registry for DHCP error are also AFD, NetBT and TCP/IP nothing else there, also all the files in the/system32/drivers afd.sys netbt.sys and tcpip.sys in addition to solve the problem, I'll mention that I installed and reinstalled Northon earlier, I do not remember if the problem appears before or after that. I receive also any error or warning in the security log or at least I don't know how to read: P
Thanks in advanceThanks for the information.
I hope you know that it is risky to connect the laptop to the Internet with no firewall and no antivirus... If this laptop is already connected to the Internet in this State, he is perhaps already infected.
You said you know the router works because the other computers can connect successfully to it. You should check the configuration of the router to make sure that it is not configured to limit the number of IP address it supplies, and (b) it is not configured to filter users by MAC address.
When this laptop is connected by Ethernet, even if he gets the IP address of 169.254.x.y, can you ping the router? Find the IP address of the router on any computer connected to it by running the ipconfig command in a command prompt window. The "default gateway" is the IP address of the router. Run the ping command in the command prompt window as well.
If the ping is successful, it is possible that you might be able to use an IP address in the correct range for an Ethernet cable (but I doubt that it works for the wireless).

Virtual machines do not get IP address from the DHCP server
Hello! I just spend Xenserver to ESXi. Created a couple of virtual machines and none of them gets an IP address from our DHCP server (DHCP server is a physical PC), and instead, they get a number of internal 192.168.x.y allowing connection to the internet.
Looks like a way to do this is to install a virtual machine that is a router, as M0n0wall, and route traffic to connect to the external network and finally to access internet. But this is not what I have to do.
I need to have virtual machines that are server to get an IP reserved for our DHCP server, and then our local windows client should be able to access it directly.
I searched on google and forums for this but I can't seem to find how to configure virtual machines to directly belong to our local network.
I thought that VMware would have a simpler way to do so than XenServer, but I was stuck on this one day now and really frustrated as I get not before with this project, stuck on this little problem... sigh...
Thanks for your help.
GER.
ESXi does not IP addresses to the virtual machines it host - if the virtual machines are not able to access your physical network than that of the thw two virtual machines acts as a DHCP server - now to the question of network - if you are not able to reach the virtual machines on the physical network or achieve fitness network virtual machines , then there is a problem with the physical connection to the ESXi host, possibly the configuration of the physical port that connects to the - is a way to test this theory to assign an IP address on the same network that the management port - if you are able to access the virtual machine, then you know that the problem is with the switch port.

Not to get the IP address of the DHCP server on the router
Hi, I had a problem in the last two days with my internet Setup. I search the Web and a few problems to be 'similar' with solutions that do not work for me.
I have a PC desktop (Dell 5100) connection to a router Netopia broadband via a cable (Intel Pro/100 VE overcards nic) who does not receive its IP address (192.168.1.x, is that DHCP should be dishing out) since the DHCP service on the router, as it is supposed to. Gets a 169.x.x.x IP address-, in my view, it is a distributed IP address when no DHCP service is. No amount of restarting and reinstalling the cables has helped. I also have an older router which allows to connect via the USB port, who assigns a virtual NETWORK adapter, and that gives me the same result, i.e. 169.x.x.x IP address.
I also have a wireless connection on the Netopia Router that I can connect to with my laptop with no problems - DHCP address is given correctly and I can access the internet.
I tried to manually assign an IP address to my office (192.168.1.5) and I am able to ping the router, but I can't http or telnet to the router's GUI or get on the internet.
I guess the problem is with the office and certain components of the software, but I don't know what. Sorry for this long post, but anyone with ideas.
Thank you
Jon

OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g do not receive the correct IP address of the DHCP server
Hello
We have reconfigured our network to use 172.16.11.xxxx
We have assigned our OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g printers IP addresses by using DHCP reservations.
After joining the wireless network, all our printers have an address of 169.254.xxxx.xxx.
What Miss me?
Thank you
Christophe
DHCP is still active on your router? The printer must have active DHCP.
169.254.x.x means the printer sees the router, but does not have a valid IP address to him.

Someone at - it will meet it before? Of course it is in a LAB environment, but what a Win 2012R2 VM is simply not cooperate... lol
I tried to vMotion there something hot but even. Other virtual machines, 2008 R2 can obtain a static IP address fine as well as works fine. It is the only 2012R2 VM in the LABORATORY.
No 'ghosts' NIC or whatever it is. It's a new generation of machine virtual Windows.
Thank you
EDIT:
I use the VMXNET3 card.
Figured it out. Someone added an IP in DHCP address range rule "out for delivery" and they used the whole range of... lol

Change of VRA 7.1.4 static IP from the DHCP server
Please can someone set me up the last v7.1.4 device of vRanger connection to a static IP address from the DHCP server? All the documents that I can find on it for vRanger connection does not correspond with the latest version of the device.
Have you seen this KB?
support.Software.Dell.com/.../146452
The only difference I have seen in some environments, it is the NETWORK card configuration file had a different name: Ko, it is etc/sysconfig/ifconfig.eth0, I edited /etc/sysconfig/ifconfig.enp2s0
Note. Ranger WILL has only the vi editor. If you find inconvenient, use WinSCP. It is a transfer tool, but it allows you to edit files on the Linux file system.

I can't find the ip address of the print server on my router, DHCP clients
I got the wireless-g WPS54G print server at a yard sale and have downloaded the Setup Wizard. Everything looks fine until step 7, select print server. Could not find anything.
Before that, I tried to access the print directly through its ip address server, but can't get it. I checked all the IPS on the main router and found everything except the print server.
Everything is setup, more than once, exactly as defined in the steps of the installation wizard.
I have Windows 7 and a computer laptop 64 bit.
Any suggestion would be great. I already spent 2 hours on this thing and am determined to make it work. All the lights on top of the blink/light print server as it should when they should. I was not wireless yet, still trying to get this Setup program.
Thank you
Chris
Connect to the print server with the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the router.
Press the reset on the print server for 15-20 seconds.
You could get the printer test page, mentioning the IP address of the print server.
If this is not the case, the print server and the router to power cycle.
Open the router setup page and check if you have the IP address of the print server in the DHCP client table.

For the RADIUS, you need a definition of server-aaa:
Protocol AAA - NPS RADIUS server RADIUS
AAA-server RADIUS NPS (inside) host 10.10.18.12
key *.
authentication port 1812
accounting-port 1813
and tell your tunnel-group for this server:
General-attributes of VPN Tunnel-group
Group-NPS LOCAL RADIUS authentication server

The dhcp server has not seen a directory for authorization server
I recently upgraded from Server 2003 to windows server 2008 r2. After the upgrade, the DHCP server has started to not giving IP address after a lease has expired. For DHCP to provide IP addresses, I have to restart the server. I need help on how to configure my server to allow the service to restart. Any help will be much appreciated
This issue is beyond the scope of this site (for consumers) and to be sure, you get the best (and fastest) reply, we have to ask either on Technet (for IT Pro) or MSDN (for developers)* -
Script to send alerts when new IP Interface from the DHCP server
Hi all
I have a few branches with a cable ISP with dynamic IP company, I'm trying to create a script to automatically send an e-mail if the interface get a new IP address if the GET the previous interface IP do not send an email.
So far, this is the script that I created:
TEST2 event manager applet
event syslog "Interface FastEthernet1 assigned DHCP" model
command action 1.1 cli 'enable '.
action 1.2 cli command "show int FastEthernet1 | I have Internet address. "
Action 1.51 regexp "Internet address is 9.9.9.9/30" "$_cli_result".
Action 1.6 If $_regexp_result eq '0 '.
action mail 2.0 to [email protected] / * / to [email protected] / * / subject to "NEW IP ADDRESS' SMTP server. Making body "$_syslog_msg".
2.1 action endedThe only problem with the script is that if the interface get a new IP address, I need to update the script in action 1.51 regexp with the new IP address so next time the interface to change the IP address to compare with the Internet address variable is...
Thank you
There are a number of ways to do what you want. A Flash file is probably the easiest because it persisted resets.
Event Manager applet check-ip
event syslog "Interface FastEthernet1 assigned DHCP" model
command action 1.0 cli 'enable '.
type of handle-error action 2.0 ignore
Action 3.0 file open fd flash: myip.txt r
Action 4.0 if $_error don't FH_EOK
4.1 action set currip "0.0.0.0".
Action 4.2 else
Action 4.3 file gets fd currip
Action 4.4 file close fd
end of the action 4.5
out of action 4.6 type handle-error
action 4.7 cli command "show int Fa1 | address Internet Inc"
Action 4.8 regexp 'address Internet's ([0 - 9.] (+)' ' $_cli_result ' match myip
Action 4.9 If $myip not $currip
Our action 5.0 mail from [email protected] / * / to [email protected] / * / subject to "NEW IP ADDRESS' SMTP server. Making body "$_syslog_msg".
Action 5.1 file open fd flash: myip.txt w
action file 5.2 puts nonewline fd $myip
action file 5.3 close fd
end of the action 5.4

hostname gets vmnet8 form ip and no default dhcp server
Hello
I installed VMware Workstation 7.1 last week and noticed that my hostname in my linux box gets the number of ip not default dhcp server but vmnet8 as before. Is there any way to go back to that? It has destroyed my samba server.
Thank you very much
EdComments of vmware can obtain ip addresses from the dhcp linux without vmnet1 and vmnet8 Server?
Yes, if the virtual machine network adapter is set to Bridged so it will be on the local physical network the host is and should be able to use its DHCP server.
