GPU on Poweredge R630

Apparently trivial question... but I'm not finding a same vague answer.

We have a R630, and we plan to add a graphics card to run calculations on the GPU. The manual States that slot 2 is a "connector PCIe x 16 with x 16 bandwidth; 3/4 length, full height. " If a half-height graphics card must adjust it without problem. But then the manual does not mention whether for graphics cards and www.dell.com/.../poweredge-gpu does not at all mention the R630. Missing something?

Pbatt,

Unfortunately the R630 does not support the internal use of the GPU. Slot machine specifications you listed are correct, but it is probably due to a lack of a power supply for the GPU to use, which makes it not taken in charge.

I hope this helps.

  • PowerEdge R630 - adding a SATA drive

    Hello

We have a new Poweredge R630, who arrived with 4 x 300 GB SAS disks in RAID 5 turns. All is well with them.

However, we would also use a SATA (SSD) (we have an exceptional SV300S3 extreme of Kingston). We insert it with a basket of spare and set it up as a new virtual disk, it seems fine. The only doubt I have is that if we can leave it without an AIRLOCK inserter in front of her. More precisely:

    (1) the leap card would increase its performance? Or the bottleneck would be the SATA: Rev 3.0 (6 Gb/s) interface of the SSD even?

    (2) only the fact that the SSD is attached like SATA hampers, somehow, 4 SAS drives running?

    (3) if we wanted to add an inserter, which part number should we buy?

Just to be complete: the performance now seems acceptable farily (but I have no clear reference in mind). In a reading test sequential, it works a bit worse than the readers of spinning (~ 360 MB/s against ~ 595 MB/s), but on a random read/write test, it surpasses clearly them (~ 10 x are PAHO / s).

    Hello

No, one leap is not necessary, does not affect the performance and will not affect the performance of SAS drives only.

I do not show a disk for the R630 support option that includes an inserter or a separately listed inserter.

  • GPU-installed PowerEdge T630

My Adviser has recently bought a server PowerEdge T630 and we want to install NVIDIA Tesla K40 in the future. It has a dual power supply plug-in to warm 1100W. He ordered without a GPU installation kit.

I was going through one of the Q & as where it was said to a GPU activation kit.

My question is when we buy a NVIDIA GPU then what do we need to install it? It should be straight forward?

Thank you much for the help.

    Sumana

As I understand it, the GPU installation kit must be selected when the system is ordered. In this way, the required components (auxiliary power GPU, power distribution Board, cable etc) that allow to install GPU cards are included with the server.

Note that if the system does not have GPU installation capabilities, then the unit must be returned and need to order a new unit with the desired GPU installation capacity.

Also note that even if the order Dell T630 page provides an option for a GPU enablement "kit", there is no such package that can be ordered post sale. He calls a "kit" gives a false impression that a kit really exists, that it is not.

Either Dell should change the wording on its order page to clarify, it isn't a kit as such GOLD go down his back and actually a kit that can be used to update the T630 for GPU cards to install (if it has not ordered with such capacity).

  • Slow performance with a S130

Hi, just to take delivery of a PowerEdge R630 that has a Perc S130 RAID card with SATA 4 disks * 250 GB 7200 RPM in a RAID5 array and we meet a few slow unexpected performance.

The use of CrystalMark, the maximum speed of reading that we see is 12 MB/s, with 7 MB/s write. I know this is software raid, but I expected a bit more performance than those.

The most recent drivers have been taken from the dell web site (4.0.0.37) and looking back, windows, installing the server took much longer than usual.

I know it is soft raid, rather than hardware raid accelerated, but the performance to be much better as it is, I would have expected (I have here, a NAS with raid software providing 90 MB/s read/write with just an Atom processor, not 2 * Xeon E5-2620 v3.)

    Thank you very much.

"No, the S series controllers are garbage. My recommendation is that if you care enough about its performance to ever consider a running reference point, then do not use it. »

Accept this controller is useless, Dell should stop using these low-end devices (I do not call it a raid of the notice).

Now, all users, you can spend a lot of time trying to understand the question, wait for a possible solution (long and unlikely, as it was broken to begin with) or you can buy a real hardware raid. Personally, I inherited a few customers with the low-end devices and do not waste time, I just bought real hardware raid controllers.  Be arrogant / angry at Dell does not receive your subsystems raid to the height, Hey if you order a Porsche with a VW Beatle engine do not expect to win races.

  • RemoteOffice VMware server

    I just got a new PowerEdge R630, with 8 x 300 GB physical disks.

The system came preconfigured with 2 virtual disks, two RAID-5, size is 1843 and 108 GB.

The controller is a PERC H730 Mini

VMware is on SD card to IDSDM

The server should be used for a RemoteOffice VM server with local storage.

Why it is configured with 2 virtual disks, create only?

Is there a size limit, I forgot.

    Hello

    JohsHemm

Why it is configured with 2 virtual disks, create only?

Is there a size limit, I forgot.

Yes, there is a size limit of 2 TB when starting BIOS firmware interfaces. The space available on this table would be ~2.1TB, so it seems that it was sliced to avoid the 2 TB limit. If you don't want to use it for a boot disk, or if you want to use the UEFI boot mode so you can remove and recreate it using the space of a single virtual disk.

    Thank you

  • My store of data of 16 TB limit of file size of 2 TB

Hello.  We have just received a new Dell PowerEdge R630 server with ten 2 TB drives in what I set up as a RAID5.  It is a server that I use in our new site of DR and will be a replication target site.  In any case, I installed the latest version of ESXi on it and it attached to my new vCenter server and then naturally had the precaution to create a data store.  So, through the process of doing this, I noticed at the end it says that there is a maximum file size limit of 2 TB.  See the attachment for my screenshot of it.  I don't know why this is, and in my research, I read that TB 62 is the maximum now.  I'm completely something misunderstanding?  My main concern is that I must be able to replicate my VMs in my production environment, running on an EMC SAN with NFS storage, my DR site using this new server in the target data store.  Some of my production virtual machines have vmdk files more than 2 TB; which is a matter of concern for this reason.  Any advice would be great! Thank you, Adam

What exactly is this "latest version of ESXi" you are talking about? On ESXi 5.5 and later versions, VMFS5 supports a maximum file size of 62 to

    According to the VMware KB:

Support of the disks of VMS over 2 TB in VMware ESXi 5.5 (2058287) | VMware KB

Block the size of a VMFS data store limitations (1003565) | VMware KB

The limits that apply to VMFS-5 data storage are:

The maximum size of virtual disk (VMDK) is 2 TB minus 512 B to ESXi 5.0 and 5.1. In ESXi 5.5, size is passed to 62TB.

If you are on 5.5 or 6.0, then I think that it is simply a cosmetic display bug in the c# Client. Among other new features, the deprecated c# client limits you to create VMDK up to 2 TB. You must use the Web Client to create and manage a VMDK more 2 TB, so maybe it's an indication that remained from previous versions of Client.

  • PCI - R720 & C410x device

    Hello

I'm trying to connect the GPU card to a Poweredge R720 thanks a C410x PCIe expansion chassis. After many try (update of the BIOS, UEFI switching, several OS reinstalled, disconnect the power supply of the BMC, iPass cable swaping upgrade, etc...), I'm not able to view any GPU card in the list of pci devices...

    The installation is very simple:

C410x with GPU <-->cable <-->PowerEdge R720 iPass with card PROBLEM

Is there a specific configuration in the BIOS? Something else?

I find the solution. You need to disable the "Intel virtualization technology" in the BIOS and you'll see your GPU.

  • PowerEdge T430 - GPU solutions to improve graphics performance ESXI

Are there solutions GPU compatible with the T430 that would be good to improve graphics performance on virtual machines that run on ESXI?

AMD over-pants S-line cards for virtualization servers seem to be the right solution, but they are expensive.

As an alternative to a GPU for virtualization, I am willing to consider the installation of a constant slope workstation GPU and do passthrough material between the GPU and a specific virtual machine.  The T430 and other PowerEdge servers seem to be 2 x 3 PEG connectors to power regular graphics cards so I did not know if there is a solution for this path.

    I'd appreciate your comments.

There is no official support of GPU for the T430. Some cards that can work at AMD, Nvidia W7000 grid K2 and K20.

  • PowerEdge T630 'missing GPU installation kit.

    Hello

We finally received the T630 P.EDGE server.

But during the ordering process, our Dell reseller forget GPU Kit installation, needed to power our Titan X GPU 3. (we already have 2 x 1600 watts PSU installed)

And I know this must be "factory-installed".

I contacted the service Dell cares Pro on twitter, and at first they said that the only solution is to buy spare parts of the GPU installation kit and try a 'solution' to the problem.

I found an interesting thread on the problems of Dell PEdge, on spicework.com and a user had the same problem, forget the GPU kit, sent back the server and received a new GPU installed Kit.

So what we can do to solve our problem?

1: open a ticket and we hope a positive response from Dell? (already done, we are waiting)

2: ordering spare parts and try to solve the problem ourselves?

I have to admit that 'Dell care PRO' finally responded quickly to our problem, but given that our company is located in Italy, we have to work with the 'Italian customer DELL Service of care '.

The Italian Dell dealer have no problem to repackage the server and sent to Dell.

But we tried about 10 times Friday to contact DELL customer service by phone at Milan, but we had no chance.

    Sorry for my bad English.

And thank you all for reading.

No, this is not what I said. I said that it would be better to work with the dealer to order the correct system.

Resellers cannot return the material for a refund, and we do not have any kind of return-to-depot updates our servers. The system will have to be refunded and rearranged to order the kit GPU.

Since you are likely to encounter problems, get a refund system ordered from a dealer that I have provided the numbers of pieces, you will need to get a GPU in the system. Perhaps this is your only option.

There are many ways that dealers sell systems to customers. Our resellers buy equipment directly from us and resell it to their customers. There are resellers that simply gathering quotes and have their customers to order the equipment directly. I do not consider any kind of sale apart from when a dealer us buys and resells for a purchase of reseller. Any other form of purchase is a service of consultation and not a resale.

If the dealer purchased from us and then resold to you then they will need to contact us regarding the return/refund. You shouldn't be contacting customer service for a refund in this scenario, because you don't give us money to repay. The return is between us and the dealer, and part of the dealer contract is that they are not allowed returns/refunds. If you paid us directly for the system, then you should be contacting customer service to request a return/refund.

Return and reorder the correct system are your best option. If this option is not available, you can try ordering part numbers, I have provided and install them yourself. GPU kits are not supported as an upgrade of the apres-point of sales, so it is not a kit or a process to perform the upgrade. The parts that I have provided are based on my search of the documentation available to me. There is also no guarantee that parts will be available for purchase.

  • No 3D video on external projector not connected to the Satellite R630 - 14H

    I bought a projector that supports 3D 1080 p videos.
I plugged in my laptop Toshiba Satellita R630 - 14H with a HDMI cable which should also support 3D.
I used reading software that should also support 3D and downloaded a few demos to the SBS format.

But when I play these videos, they are really displayed side by side and not as 3D.
When I say the beamer from 2D to 3D, it always says that the entrance is not in 3D.
The program of Intel graphics driver that has been pre-installed lists a 3D option.

What version of HDMI the R630 - 14 H uses?
    Support 3D-video?
    Am I missing something else?

    > I plugged into my laptop Toshiba Satellite R630 - 14H with a HDMI cable which should also support 3D.

Where did you get or find information about the 3D on this laptop support?
Technical data Toshiba Satellite R630 - 14 H says that this support unit unit internal Intel HD graphics.

Sorry mate but this isn't 3D capable graphics card and I don t think 3D release would be possible.

To be able to use an external 3D monitor or projector, you would need a laptop with compatible 3D graphics card. For example a GPU nVidia Driver compatible 3D display, (NVIDIA 3D Vision Kit) 3D glasses and 3D compatible monitor or projector (120 Hz).

  • Installation of GPU on R730

    Dear Sir or Madam,

I bought the Poweredge R730 w / single E5 - 2640 V4 (10 ° C/20 t) with 750W 80 + PSU config Platinum and performing. Now, I want to add the GPU card for performance of extended treatment, for example. GTX1080 with 170W typical. I searched Dell Community and external forums and who are there should / could be a custom installation of GPU-based external power problem.

Those I need to ask: should I have to order the GPU installation Kit or any part to ensure that the custom configuration enters the work (optional 2 x GPU should be concerned). I have recognized that the installed GPU may be used only for processing task and not for display purpose.

Thank you for your kind assistance to the front.

    Sincerely,
    Wilairat bodivit

    Zyxzenze,

    A question you might encounter is that the specific GPU is not taken in charge and might not work. The list of GPUS supported the R730 is lower;

R730 GPU taken in charge to the RTS
    NVIDIA AMD Intel Phi
    NVIDIA K80 AMD S9150 Intel Phi 7120P
    NVIDIA M60 AMD S7150 Intel Phi 3120 P
    NVIDIA M40 AMD S7150x2
    NVIDIA K40M AMD S/W9100
    K1 GRID NVIDIA

    NVIDIA GRID K2

Now you know, the R730 can support two 300W, full length, double width or four 150W, width of a GPU. GPUS are installed on interfaces PCIe x 16 Gen3 available on Riser2 and the Riser3 GPU-optional. For the internal installation of two GPUS in the system, Riser3 GPU-optional must be present.

Also, it seems that the cables will be specific GPU as well.

Let me know if it helps.
