Hangs, severe slowness and camera running Firefox 27,0 / 28.0 on Windows XP / is it possible to block plugin container?
Experienced a severe slowness and lock-up with Firefox to the end, which ends with a sharp decline in the use of memory and I have repeatedly shut down by the Task Manager. I created a new profile and disabled hardware acceleration. I tried to disable all plug-ins and extensions, but I noticed that sometimes (not always) plugin container was always an active process, I don't understand. Why would it be active when there is no plugin activated? I also noticed that when the plugin container is not active (list under process in the Task Manager), I don't have this problem and Firefox works normally? I need to block the plugin container. Help, please.
If you have deactivated plugins and plugin-container should not be executed. It's one of the reasons I suggested malware scans.
The Windows XP Task Manager lists the processes running. It will list the plugin - container.exe but I don't think it goes further. IIRC a Sysinternals utility was required to get information on the processes associated with the plugincontainer.
Microsoft will now offer free downloads and documentation for which is the Sysinternals software.

Google Earth and camera running after sleep.
I closed the lid on my Macbook Pro late 2013 to put to sleep and awoke to find Google Earth and my camera running. The only apps I leave but no open Windows Mail and Chrome. I saved my system log to a text file, but can not find to search. I didn't save all newspapers. Never had this happen before. Could I have malware? There is a lot of activity in the mode 'sleep'! I don't know if this is the best place to post - perhaps under El Capitan would have been better.

Check that your ... System Preferences > energy saver > annex > start or reactivate setting is off (no indicator check.)
Also check the box wake for network access is not marked.
Finally, make sure that the lock in this window is closed to avoid changes until you provide your administrator name and password.
Do these three things should prevent anything using your Mac, until I YOU wake up from its sleep.

If the problem persists even if your System... Preferences are configured correctly, it is possible.
You can check for malware using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac.

Installation and first run of the FF, I get a collection box that is displayed for about 5 seconds after the program loads and displays the first screen. It obviously requires a response, but it contains no words. The box doesn't cause any Word show either. the screen takes over and no other button cannot be clicked: I have a hardware failure on FF.
Empty the gray bar, box, box white, question mark?
This irritating box was related to an add-on for AOL. In order to remove the extension of the problem, you will probably need to start Firefox in Safe Mode so that it does not work.
You need to close Firefox anyway, you can, for example:
- ALT + F4
- Right click of its mosaic on the taskbar > close all windows
- (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) Task Manager
To start Firefox in Safe Mode, hold down the SHIFT key while double-clicking the shortcut.
A small dialog box should appear. Click on 'Start mode safe' (not update).
Then you can go to the Add-ons page using either:
- CTRL + SHIFT + a
- "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then on the right, locate AOL.

Firefox opens with a tiny empty window.
Recently, I stopped using the functionality of the Tab Mix Plus extension session manager, I can use the tabs in Firefox 13 on the demand function. As I made the switch, I had a strange problem. Usually (not always, but maybe 4 times out of 5) when I run Firefox, instead of a normal browser window, it displays a small blank window. The window is wide enough for an icon and the min/max/close buttons. There is no toolbars or chrome any (not even the menu of Firefox). The window is resizable, but resizing does not reveal the content.
I can fix by launching Firefox in Mode safe (which well restores all my open tabs) and then restart the browser, after which it works normally until I have to restart again. So almost everytime I open the browser I have everything first to open safe mode and then restart it.
I tried to disable Tab Mix Plus (that I still use to other features), but that did not help. I don't know which of my other extensions could be the cause of the problem. Anyone else see this issue? I'm stumped on what could be causing it. Thanks in advance for any help!
So, apparently, it was a bug specific to the 64-bit version of v13. A fix has been released, and the problem seems to have disappeared. Thanks to all who offered suggestions!

I should have been more specific: the 64-bit version I use is Waterfox project. When I started using it, it's only available for Windows 64-bit version, but now I see that is no longer the case. On the help page for Firefox reset to original settings, he suggests going to the top of the page and clicking on Firefox (orange icon). Unfortunately, I can't find this header that would lead me to the help page for resetting.
Make sure that you run not Firefox mode full screen (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command + SHIFT + F).
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance).
- Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode without failure.

Firefox running error with several profiles and - no.-remote set
I created two profiles. One turn firefox 4 and one for firefox 3. I run both for test purposes in an environment of websolution. The profiles are called respectivally firefox4 and firefox3 and these are the only profiles. I changed the shortcuts to read

Sorry to hear that. You can return to the v3.6.16, but in the end, support is removed for that eventually.
To return to an earlier version, download Firefox 3.6.16
Then go to add/remove programs and choose to uninstall Firefox 4.0, but don't check the option to delete your bookmarks, customizations etc. Those who will be selected for you so that you can continue to use them when you reinstall v3.6.16
Restart and then run the downloaded v3.6.16 file.
Check from time to time if there is any security updates released for this version by clicking help | Look for the updates

Create a user profile for children on PC 32-bit W7 with MS Family Safety.
Recently they have complained he "runs slow and internet does not work.
After playing for a little, I realized a ton of processes were running in the background. I couldn't run msconfig to their profile (not administrator) and after some research, I even if the profile has been corrupted.
I created a new profile, but now the same thing is happening a few days later.
See below; multiple copies of the same process are running. This happens within 2 m after the log-in and I only started one program.
I started in safe mode with network and ran Windows defender, Spybot S & D and my virus scanner (all full scans) and turned up nothing malicious. A few cookies tracking in the web cache, but nothing out of the ordinary. I searched for the files wlaacmgr.exe and dplaysvr.exe (b/c they do not appear running in my admin profile) but they were found only in windows OS directories. I understand that they are files of W7 but some maleware recreates.
Many of them are the same files taking up process on the old profile that I deleted.
Any help or suggestion as to why I have multiple copies of large processes running on the machine? As I wrote it, I sign in, seems to be fine for one but 2 minutes a lot of process appear repeatedly and slows down the computer to a crawl.
These two files listed are not at all on my admin profile and the machine works fine in my admin profile. Even with open Photoshop, the CPU is only about 50% under my profile.
Try to check/change the entries in startup with Autoruns from Sysinternals, which should work on the limited account to see its startup items.

Firefox has becomes slow and unresponsive after that I tried to install the addons (not installed)?
I recently format my computer and reinstall windows 7, since it was the only way I know of to solve the problem with Firefox (I already had this problem too). I download the latest version of firefox 33.0.2 and install it. This version was super fast. But becomes slow and unresponsive when I tried to install the Add-ons. I visited the official site of firefox and searching for addons, when I tried to install addons, Firefox crashed. Therefore, it has becomes quite slow and cannot restore previous sessions. Even to type my email address, it takes more than 5 minutes and reacts more frequently (after typing each letter).

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "start mode safe."
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. Please follow the section Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems to find the cause.
To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

HP monthly Diagnostic Tool - Runs slow and eventually hold endless.
The Daiagnostic HP of end of month on a HE - 210Y Pavilion 64 bit Win7 works extremely slow and finally stops at the end of 63%. No other programs are running. Had to cancel because of the stall. No test failure wasn't indication for the part that ended. This is the second consecutive month that has happened. Prior months - the test ran successfully and quickly. What is the solution?
30/04/14 - the monthly diagnostic completed without error, test and it was completed in maybe an hour of time. I did not observe the process - the computer was ON and I completely forgot the test of end of month. When I came back, he had successfully completed in maybe an hour or two. This is in contrast to the experience last month when he never completed and finally stalled after several hours. (The computer worked very well except for a few issues download in Google Chrome using Realplayer).
So, what has been fixed in the meantime? Unknown, expect that Kaspersky Anti-virus I have lead me to leave 'fix' a 'threat '. I admitted to its process. The Feast was due to "Quicktime", and it has been deleted.
Also, I did remove 'Intermediate' which was marked with another download and replace the search Google by Bing - udesired by me. I must be more careful with downloads.
For now - the problem of diagnosis of end of month slow / stalled has been fixed somewhat.

iMac very slow and short HOT. the fan runs almost constantly
My iMac 2011 short middle slow and often gets "the ball" of the computer runs hot (uncomfortable keep the hand on top) and the fan is almost always running. Activity monitor shows the low CPU usage. Any ideas?

My Apple Macbook late 2009 has been upgraded to 4 GB and Mountain Lion but runs very slowly. When I check the memory system activity monitor, I see that there are 1.6 GB inactive. Is this the cause of the slowness and what I can do?

Fix the hard disk and permissions before Lion
Boot from your OS X install disk. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the button continue. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu. OS X automatically defrags files smaller than 20 MB in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files it little need to defragment the hard drive.
Under no circumstances should you install operating MacPaw or ZeoBit software (CleanMyMac/CleanMyDrive or Mac Keeper, respectively.) You don't need special software to keep your computer.

Troubleshooting Applications
I recommend that you download a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX, Mavericks Cache Cleaneror hiding a Cocktail that you can use to delete the former newspapers and archives, cleaning, etc. Corrupted cache, logs or temporary files can slow down the application or OS X crashes and panics of the kernel.

Basic backup
For some people, Time Machine will be more than enough. Time Machine is part of Mac OS X. There are two components:
1. a panel of Time Machine preferences as part of the system of preferences;
2. a request for Time Machine, located in the Applications folder. It's
used to manage backups and restore backups. Time Machine
requires a backup drive that is at least twice the capacity of the
drive being backed up.
You can also get an external drive at least equal to the size hard disk internal and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the disk utility's restore option. You can also create and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (the order is not significant):

Additional tips
Make sure you have a sufficient amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run simultaneously. Make sure to leave a minimum of 10% of the capacity of the hard disk as free space.
Add more RAM. If your computer less than 2 GB of RAM and you use OS X Leopard or later, then you can do it with more RAM. Snow Leopard and Lion works much better with 4 GB of RAM that is their system. Most concurrent applications, that you tend to use the more RAM you should have.
Always have at least 15 GB, or 10% of the capacity of your hard disk as free space, the largest. OS X frequently accesses your hard disk, so offering enough free space will keep things slow down.

This problem occurs often because of a corrupted cache or the preferences file or an attempt to write in a corrupted log file.

Firefox very slow, slow and unresponsive on Windows 8.1
