Hard disk buffers and transfer speeds

I get the WD Caviar Black 1 TB disks 3 for my new system of the body (non-Raid).  Is there a difference between the 32 MB memory buffer-3 GB and the 64 MB - 6 GB on this system -

KINGSTON KHX1600C9D3K3/12GX is good for memory?

Thank you!

Just be aware that you are not guaranteed to receive the latest design drive if you choose the version of 32 MB/3.0 Gbps of 1 TB black.

    Hi dynamitenews

    1. are you able to boot to the desktop?
    2. what happens when you try to start the computer?

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

Also I suggest you to make sure you have defined the start as CD/DVD-Rom as the first choice option in the BIOS. See below the help link-
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/BIOS-frequently-asked-questions

If nothing is done, then you can contact the manufacturer support for assistance on setting up the correct boot sequence and check.

  • The constant hard disk - system and DiagnosticAgent.exe wrote to 300 different activity. Files of the PNF at a constant rate - starting programs negatively impaired.

Something similar to this began after a time, I was installing updates (somewhere in June or July). A month later, after I installed SP2 via the update, the problem presented differently (just as bad). Here's what I found recently of the reliability monitor and performance:

    -DiagnosticAgent.exe > C:/windows/inf/infcache.0 = wr 1.5 MB/min x 2 (constant) (sometimes up to 6 x)

-System > loads of instances (~ 500) on. The files of the PNF in C:\Windows\inf\ =
    mainly writing<100kB in="" but="" some="" write="" up="" to="">
-Diagnosticagent.exe > loads of instances (~ 500) on. The files of the PNF in C:\Windows\inf\ =
    mainly writing<100kB in="" but="" some="" write="" up="" to="">

(total of instances of 1000 files .pnf; 300 different ones, several up to 12 instances of the same .pnf, half of them at least 4 instances of the same .pnf.)

I don't see many cases playback from the hard drive. Even at 100% highest active time, the graph of the disc in the performance bed also monitor, an average of only 2 Mbps. When Disk Defragmenter is running, it is an average of 50 MB/s.

This constant HDD activity about 1000 cases write in 30 minutes continuous .pnf files after startup and after awakening from sleep. While that happens, most of the programs, after loading, do not react for 5 minutes, then run as usual. Even the message control user account often fails to appear before it expires (in 2 minutes) during this time.

I tried Googling on hdd constant activity on the PNF files, but did not find much.

I will try using the restoration of the system again, although I had a few unsuccessful attempts with her.

I have Norton Antivirus installed, which scans for viruses periodically. It is not really the cause of this unknown and unusual hard disk activity I know.

    Hi Tiscando,

Welcome to microsoft windows vista forums!

You did any recent changes of hardware on the computer?

Have you run a memory diagonstic test?

This question may be occurred due to services (3 programs) running during startup.

I suggest you put the computer in a clean boot and check:

  • Clone HARD disk backup and upgrade the HDD on a Vaio S13

I just bought a laptop SVS13133CGB. I want to change the hard drive for an SSD, because of the problems of latency of disk it gives me with the drive 5400 RPM. Also, I have to change to Windows 7, because of the problems of compaitbality with the applications I run.

    My questions are-

-Are there problems with an SSD on this model? I intend to use a Samsung 840 250 GB SSD and do a clean install of windows 7 on it.

-I want to save the data of the existing drive, imaging or cloning, so that I can have the installtion Windows 8 + the recovery partion. (also the key/cert/activation)  Does anyone know if I restore it, everything will work according to the normal? I.e. the assist, the stamina/speed etc button button... I m not sure what cloning software I will use, like I always do research which at the moment.

    Has anyone done the above?

    ravinius,

    1. I don't think there's any question replacing a HDD with a SSD... we can only comment on what has been installed from factory but as I said, I don't see a problem to an SSD.

    2. it is preferable that you create system recovery disc and run that, if you want to revert to Windows 8.  Regarding what makes an exact image, I don't know on this one there... There are several software cloning there, but we cannot comment/recommend on a specific... If you are running the recovery disc it will restore everything back as if it was fresh from the factory (software wise)...

  • Hard disk recovery and replacement system

I have a laptop of 1155 ca HDX 16 running Windows 7 ultimate (upgrade of Vista) pre-installed. I recently discovered a bad sector or several bad sectors on my hard drive using many tools of diagnistics. SMART info indicates 3 pending sectors. Also, the hard drive failed the test under BIOS self-diagnose. That my computer can cope with imminent hard drive failure, I would like to replace the hard drive. Is there any HHDs with greater storage space and higer RPM compatible with this laptop? In addition, I can't create a second set of recovery disks containg my current system and settings, how would I be able to recover my data/system and how can I back up all my files current?

    Thank you.

    Hello:

You can use the backup and recovery of Windows 7 system to make a ghost image of your current content of the hard drive on a hard drive portable.  You will also need to make a bootable CD that will give you the opportunity to do so, to access the recovery files, and then reinstall your current configuration.

However, if I were you, I would back up all files, music and photos separately I didn't want to lose, just in case the reinstallation fails.

Although HP doesn't show any upgrades to your hard drive, I guess you'd be sure to install a 640 GB SATA 7200 RPM up to. It's a PC pretty modern.

You can also be on the right side and order a set of recovery disc for your laptop. They will be for Vista, but you can then go ahead and reinstall W7.  A set of recovery disks normally costs about $16.00.

Here is the link to the support page for your laptop.  Under the "Alerts for this product" section, you can click on the blue link indicating "how to order recovery disks.

  • Disk partitioning and computer speed

My XP computer became very slow, probably because of the used space on my hard drive. More space hard drive (about 85%) is occupied by my music files. I would be able to increase the speed of my computer by creating a separate disk special partition for my music files?

Probably not, victory is in need of at least 15% space free to work properly. Have a lot of data/files on the PC will not slow down it

  • Hard disk failure and recovery of the operating system

I have a model p6310f desktop that had a hard drive failure.  I bought an SSD and install.  I looked for a recovery disk; However, I have not found one.  I was told that the recovery disc is on the hard drive in a separate partition.  Is this really the case?  If so, how can I access the recovery if the hard drive is still not recognized?

Recovery media is available on your Support page. Scroll the list of the drivers/software to see the possibility of ordering.

Be aware that recovery discs do not always work on an SSD - if the capacity is much smaller than the original hard drive and SSD size wasn't an option initially offered on your model. You could make your own Windows 7 installation dvd in this case, as long as you have the intact lable on cases with license key. Let me know if you want to try this option.
