Hard disk expansion

I am running XP in Fusion 2.0. I can't drive to develop properly. I thought I read somewhere that the expansion would happen automatically. Everything went a lot during the first year, and then I started to receive messages from Windows on the space being low. I can't imagine that I am complete 20 concerts!

I opened the settings of the HDD and moved the slider up to 40 GB. It took 30 to 45 minutes of distribution or what he was doing, but when I'm back in the program, I was still getting the error. On my last business trip, I tried to synchronize my data files, and he said there is not enough space on the disk.

I have a feeling, this is a rookie mistake, but someone please put me out of my misery.

How to spend it?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks WoodyZ. I was goiing to write again and noted that the only relevant article herein was four points on how to extend the HD. You will notice, however, in the response to your suggestion of gbullman, he gets to go further in the section on the expansion of the partition. I was unaware that as I do not think that I worked w / a partition, rather a HD set.

There are four sentences in the first part of this document before even one gets directions to resize the virtual hard disk...

VMware Fusion 2 includes tools that resizing your virtual disk material existing at a larger size. VMware Fusion increases the size of the virtual hard disk, which adds more "virtual spindles" to enlarge the disk.

The challenge is that most users expect the increased size of the virtual disk means that Windows (or other operating systems) sees the increased size of the disk immediately.

However, Windows (and OS) works with the partitions on a hard drive. You need Windows (or other operating system) management tools for specific drive to increase the force partition size to match the size of the virtual hard disk.

Most modern operating systems including Windows Vista, Mac OS X Leopard Server, and some versions of Linux provide built-in disk management tools that can resize partitions live to use additional disk space.

There seems to be no ambiguity in these sentences, so I can't understand anyones confusion when one receives this document as the answer to a question like that you started this discussion with especially since had already increased you the size of the virtual hard disk, but the OS was not see and that of why you came here and asked to help and these four sentences explain that dealt you with and why when users as you search for the answer to this your given scenario full link for that document and Pat Lee, who wrote the document did a very job by providing a solution to this question.

  • How to find out really currently used physical memory and swap space of hard disk to the virtual computer running?

Suppose that I'm leaving WinXP hostOS a guestOS. Then a part of this guestOS remain in physical memory and another part is deployed on hard drive in the swap file resp swap partition.

First question: the complete *.vmdk loaded into memory/swap space or only the part that is currently required?

Perhaps only a *.vmdk 800 MB / 3GB is really responsible. But these 800 MB could be extended to 2 GB, because the content of these 800 MB is not compressed during load or guestOS drivers allocate additional memory.

*. VMDK size seems so NO indicator for the actual amount of used memory / swap.

How will I know how much physical (a) memory and (b) the hard disk swap space EXACTLY is currently occupied by a certain virtual machine running?

The vmdk is not loaded into memory, because it is the drive of the virtual machine.

Yes, of course not. The memory used by the client is not related to the size of hard but the RAM assigned in the options of hardware reviews.

Open the Task Manager and find a task vmware - vmx.exe or vmware-vmx - debug.exe.

The swap file should be used if you have chosen to allow that VMware Workstation is authorized to Exchange. The file where swaps to door expansion .vmem Workstation. Search folder of comments.

I use DiskWarrior do a reconstruction of the hard drive to save the files, if possible. Hard drive does not appear on the desktop, which had been seen as a USB device on system information. During the reconstruction, the Seagate external HARD disk light exploded and is no longer visible to the Profiler system as a USB device. Should I cancel the reconstruction? Should I try disk referee to 'stabilize' the disc and run Disk Warrior?

Can you describe the real problem which caused you to run DiskWarrior "to save the files?  Who can provide a clue about your current situation.

DiskWarrior works repairing data directory player (which defines where the files are stored).  There are other types of utilities who hunt the disc for actual data.  For example

The old hard disk does not run Windows, so access to the usual file through Windows Explorer or Firefox has not worked for me. The old hard drive is now a slave drive and all files are intact and accessible via the new Windows 7 64-bit operating system.

You have Windows configured to display the hidden files and folders? If not, do it as soon as the first. http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=Windows-7

Then, what version of Windows do you have on the old drive? Your profile folder must be on the way there:

    Windows Vista and later:

    \Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

  • Photos can work using just an external HARD disk and leave my only intern?

    Hello

I am using v1.5 Photos. On my Macbook HARD internal disk fills up very quickly. Fortunately, I have a nice external 1 TB drive and I would like to:

    (1) move all my photos on the external drive and direct Photos program so search the folder on the external HARD drive to find all photos.

    (2) when I import pictures from my camera in the future, that the Mac them automatically in the folder of photos on the external HARD disk and not keep fill the space limited on my Mac small disk internal.

Is this possible? I remember that I was able to do it with iTunes years when I used a Powermac with 4 x internal HDD of various sizes. iTunes has been able to see the music on each disk files and present them to me as a single list of iTunes.

I'm not interested in using iCloud at all, I have everything on HARD drive and memory sticks and I am satisfied that, as it provides all the storage I need and I only use a computer for my work.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Yes, it is possible to keep the pictures library on an external drive. Make sure that the unit is running at the launch of photos from your Mac.

  • Is it normal that Firefox consumes hard disk space open?

Last week, I noticed the following 'strange' behavior of Firefox on my iMac (under Snow Leopard 10.6.8): while I have the browser open (usually on Facebook) my hard drive space appears to reduce (for example, 265,14 GB 265,01 GB). When I close Firefox and restart my computer, the amount of hard disk space increases again. He don't know if that happened in the past or if it's something normal. I have not installed extensions or themes, my plugins are all updated and I do not have a lot of navigation (the FB open Startpage and cat enough). Firefox doesn't seem to have performance problems, but I just want to know if there is a problem and if I could solve it somehow.

Firefox uses more a GB of space on my hard drive regularly (sometimes 2GB). This seems excessive - especially since I put the cache size to 500 MB.

  • Problem with external HARD disk - cannot mount the mac partition and can't unmount the partition windows

    Hi all

Need your help. I have problems with my external hard drive. I worked on it yesterday when the cable is a little detached and disassembled my intestinal HARD drive.

    Here are the specs:

1 Macbook Air 11.5 "running on El Capitan (10.11.1)

2 Buffalo Ministation external (1 TB) HARD disk divided into two: a Mac partition (for time machine) and the other a windows on FAT32 partition.

Before the accident yesterday, it was working OK.

Now, when I connect the HARD drive, it turns on but the Mac partition cannot be mounted (it does not appear on the Finder. I opened disk utility... just load forever and does not work) and the Windows partition is visible... but I can't take it apart without turning my computer.

I can assemble and disassemble a USB stick very well.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you!

Maybe you can explain a little better.

I would like to make some general comments before having your replay.

It is not wise to use TM on a disk with apple unformatted or partitions, it is preferable to have a dedicated TM drive also.

For TM, the rule is that the drive is about 3 times the size of the boot disk.

Normally you 'survive' a good step disassemble the drive external, but in this case with a another partition formatted on this subject, I'm not sure if that do not corrupt the disk, especially since the Windows partition is bootable. I have suspct the partition GUID on the TM partition table is corrupt.

I propose to start the disk completely: in DiskUtility select the 'higher' level (name of manufacturer) and the Partition, one OS X Extended (journaled) partition table Partition GUID. And use it only for TM, is not too big for this.

Have another drive formatted NTFS for Windows.

I'm using Time Machine (1 TB), works very well, but because full starting to delete previous backups. Can I add another (LaCie 1 TB) HARD disk for backups? If so, how to proceed. Thank you!

You can add another drive to accept backups Time Machine... assuming it is correctly formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled), but things are not exactly "continue."

You have not indicated if you intend to add the player to the USB port on the Time Capsule, or connect directly to your computer using USB or FireWire connections. Or the other method works, with the option to connect directly to the computer being the faster connection.

Once the disc is added, you would go in Time Machine preferences (click the "clock" at the top of the screen on your Mac) to add the disk for Time Machine backups and delete the old Time Capsule disk, since backups will go is no longer this destination.

Since you have a new drive, Time Machine will do a new full backup of your Mac and then go forward with incremental backups.

  • I can't and never been able to open a file that was previously saved on hard disk by selecting the print option to get in the print dialog box

I can not and never been able to open a file that was previously saved on hard disk by selecting the print option to get in the print dialog box. Firefox displays gooblygook, even if the name of file is an html element, the Notepad of Windows crashes, MS Excel does not recognize the file type. MS Word also displays goobblys when the file has no file extension.

If you use the file printing, then you will get a file that is supposed to be sent to a printer, and this file has any sort of code formatting for this printer.

Open such a file in Firefox or a text editor can only work if you use one printer for text to print the file to, then make sure that such a printer is installed and selected.
