Hello, my g6 Pavilion gave the following message when I ran a test of startup: hard drive short DST: failure failure ID: OLM9XO-6AQ766-MFPXOK-60TWO3 please advise my next step. Thank you!

    Each time the short hard drive DST test fails with 24 alphanumeric characters "GDSDBX-TLR7RJ-9XL03F-604J03" which indicates that the hard drive has failed and which needs to be replaced to solve the problem

    This problem could be due to an Application or a driver conflict, virus issues, corruptions of files due to incompatible applications, incorrect judgments, update failures due to conflicts, mounted sudden power so portable, sudden falls etc...

    HP will offer a replacement HDD if the laptop warranty is Active, otherwise you can buy a SATA hard drive in a nearby retail store

    Please make sure that you get at least equal as long as the original one in order to use recovery disks. If you need you can buy a bigger, but not smaller hard drive capacity. For example, if you have a 500 GB hard drive you can improve it to 750 GB hard drive, but not 320 GB hard drive

    Please try the troubleshooting below indicated once the steps:

    Step 01. Remove the battery and unplug the power adapter AC.

    Step 02. Press and hold the power button for more than 30 seconds

    Step 03. Plug the AC power adapter / (leave the battery for now)

    Step 04. Press the power button and check if the unit is operating normally

    If the steps listed above is not enough, then you can try reinstalling the hard disk on your laptop

    If the problem persists again please Contact HP if your HP laptop is under warranty, HP could replace the hard drive and provide recovery media to restore the operating system to factory after the replacement (if you have not yet created recovery disks/USB support)

    Note: Back up all personal data on an external drive if possible. Otherwise, you can connect the HDD defective via SATA USB adapter with another PC or a PC even after replacing the HARD drive & put in place of the operating system and try to copy / retrieve files.     I have a HP Pavilion laptop g6-2218nr that will not start.  When you run the marketing diagnostic test and the hard drive diagnostic test, both tests showed the hard drive DST short FAILED.

    Your laptop is considered as coming with a 320 GB hard drive, but you can install just as easily a 500 GB or 750 GB HARD drive if you want a little more space - readers at the following links are examples that would be perfect for your laptop.

    I'm not able to find a recovery media for your model of third-party vendors too.

    No, you can't create USB recovery by plugging the old drive as external references to another PC. You have to use HP application recovery manager supplied with your laptop and create a set. I think that you will not be able to do from a failing drive.

    Hello. Since last Monday, my laptop froze on me, which forced me to hard stop. When I tried to turn it back on, it takes me to the HP logo with the rotation of the circle, but it doesn't take me anywhere.     Your laptop is listed as coming with a HARD drive from 640 GB, but given that there is little difference in cost, you can replace this with a 750 GB option.

    Regarding the reinstallation of the operating system, you can create your own installer of Windows 7 USB drive flash as follows.

    Before you try the following, make sure that you can always read the character product activation key 25 on your label Windows COA (5 blocks of 5 alphanumeric games).

    Using another PC - just download the good Disk Image ( this must be the same version that originally came with your laptop - it is listed as Windows 7 Home Premium 64 - bit ) from the link below--these Images are of a very respected source (Digital River).

    Once completed, use the Microsoft Tool on the following link to create a USB bootable Windows 7 installer - you will need a 4 GB flash for this drive.

    My HP Touchsmart retained the slightest mistake and duty restart itself. Ran the chkdsk and says it has found errors. I rebooted the computer tried to safe mode by pressing F8 and nothing happened.

    I've seen similar errors, but different failure of id, most say replace the HARD drive.

    I reinstalled and reconnected the hard drive, does not.

    Powered off, removed the power cord and battery and drained (hold down the power button for 30 seconds) and reboot to anything will do.

    I have now no functionality on this pc. If I have to replace (1 TB) HARD drive, should I get HP, a set of recovery/usb disks (Web url?)?

    I'm sorry to say this, but the 24-character error codes indicates a drive failure, which means that the drive is defective and must be replaced.

    You always have access to the data stored on the disk? If you do, then save as much information as possible and look for a replacement drive. If the product is still under warranty, you can contact support, but in case you have no guarantee and you would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself – please let me know.
