  The virtual machine that you downloaded is just that, a virtual machine, not an executable. You need to install/run VMware Player or Workstation and run, and then open the virtual machine.

• Help with VMware Workstation! Missing hard files

  Hi all

  As I tried to move a virtual machine from one laptop to another (without it being fully saved, big mistake, I know now what very well), I moved the files by mistake and did not copy the files. The files that I moved, I deleted, thinking they were just copies that I went from using a USB key using google drive.  Oh I don't have the files on the USB key.  And that's where I was wrong.  In turn, I deleted 3 - files s00X.vmdk and virtual machine does not open on 10 VMworkstation. The error I get when I try to take back the machine is this:

  So I check my file to make sure that I have all the files. The 3 I have removed were the following:

  • pwk_vm-cl1-000001 - s001.vmdk
  • pwk_vm-cl1-000001 - s002.vmdk
  • pwk_vm-cl1-000001 - s003.vmdk

  My questions:

  Is there anyway that I can restart the machine with these deleted for good void vmdk files? Even if it's to a State previous/snapshot?  I have pwk_vm-cl1 - 000002.vmdk in pwk_vm-cl1 - 000011.vmdk files and all the appropriate sub files. I still have all the snapshots and vmsn, vmx, .vmem and vmsd for the vm files.

  
  

  I know it's totally my fault and my own fault. This virtual machine has been used for a course I took and have spent hours 150 + on, just to start the machine and retrieve my file of massive if possible note. You can provide any help would be greatly appreciated.  All of my current files are backed up, so I'm free to try various corrections, as appropriate. If you need additional file information, I can provide probably not.

  3 of these missing parts may contain a few Mbs 6Gbs or up to.
  If durinmg time you have written actively in these 3 files your Debian update grub and installed a new initrd, you will have a serious problem.
  But you used the autodestructible function I guess rather than these VMDK was rather smaller than completely filled.

  Get the virtual machine to start again is actually quite easy - write instructions to security however means more work.

  So, I think that setting remotely should not take much longer than 15 minutes. If you want to call me by Skype, so that we can arrange something.

  I run WS 6.5 on a laptop of recent Dell game (1 year) with 4 GB of RAM with Windows 7 64-bit. In fact, I have 4 ESX and Vcenter that run in WS 6.5 for education. You need a 64-bit version of Windows to use 3 GB or more due to limitations of 32-bit Windows.

  I have windows 8 Pro 64 - Bit clean installed as host. With the help of vmware workstation 9.0.0 - 812388 trail that began a few days ago. Whenever I start any SMV it causes reboot without any regradless of error messages which operating system I use my computer. I use virtual machines on windows 7 and it all works.   Workstation 9.0.1 has a fix for this problem.

• VMware networking question

  Hi people out there. First time poster in the hope of getting some ideas. Here's some information and what I'm trying to accomplish.

  So I set up a VMware environment for me and a friend to me so that we can play with ESXi and virtual systems and configurations.

  My home system has 1.5 to storage and 32 GB of memory, so I decided to use my system to be the host.

  With the help of VMware Workstation 9, I created a virtual machine with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage to use for our game environment. I installed the ESXi host on this virtual machine (Yes a VM will be my virtual machine host).

  -J' have the host connected to VMware Network Adapter VMnet8 from my PC to give it a different IP subnet separate from my primary home network on 192.168.65.x

  -J' have a Terminal Server running Windows Server 2008 R2 as my first virtual machine with 2 network cards virtual

  -J' have a second vSwitch systems to connect to my home network primary 192.168.1.x. whose purpose is specifically to the server terminal server, so I can route RDP on the internet for the TS.

  -I don't want my virtual systems with access to the main network (beyond the Terminal Server computer) and I don't want ALL of the virtual machines to have internet access on a network.

  -My level of router, I have internet blocks from the host and IP address on the second card of the server terminal server. Then I'm OK.

  Here's my problem. Power of the internet on the TS works that until I got disabling the adapter connected to the 192.168.1.x. I can always get internet access through the 192.168.65.x of my main PC adapter. All my other virtual machines will be connected to the reseau.65 so they are not using my primary network traffic and I don't want them having access to my internet. I want to just beyond the server terminal server itself, being separated from my home network and that you have access to its own internal virtual reseau.65 and nothing outside of it. I know individually, I can specify an IP address and just put the default gateway to something like 0.0.0.0 and which effectively blocks this system to have internet, but I don't want to have to rely on set up this configuration or pressing the friend who will use to access this virtual network to do this in any new VM he created RDP. I want to do in the world in terms of network, if I can.

  Any thoughts are appreciated. If I failed to point out anything please let me know and I'll try to explain.

  If I understand your requirement, all that you need to do is to open the virtual network Editor, create a new 'Host-Only' virtual network adapter (uncheck the box "connect an adapter to the virtual host in the network) and use this new host only instead of NAT network adapter.

• Resolution video troubleshooting

  I have a problem of video resolution.

  I set my screen resolution in VMWare workstation to a max of 1600 x 900, but it is not taken.  Any help or ideas are appreciated.

  Details:

  -With the help of VMWare Workstation 9.0.2.

  -VM version a material v7

  -Comments operating system is Windows Server 2008R2

  -L'OS is Windows 7 Enterprise

  The relevant section of my .vmx file is below:

  Symptoms:

  -When I try to change the resolution in the comments, 1600 x 900 is not available as an option, even under Advanced options > list all modes.

  What I tried (without resolution):

  -Uninstall and reinstall the latest VMWare tools.

  -Mucking with the svga.vramSize in the .vmx file.

  -Added video modes as described in http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1003.  I was unable to find the registry key vmx_svga which was necessary and could not find Resolution.3.

  Solved my problem and feel like a fool for spending hours on this...

  I got off Autofit Guest.  That's because once I have 1600 x 900, I want to keep it there to take screenshots.

  I turned on and re-size of the window to more than 1600 x 900.  I was in mode 1600 x 900.

  Then I shut it off again.

  The file you connected, Windows 7 vmxf, isn't the .vmx config file and does not have the file, you should be editing!   Remove your Windows 7 vmxf file changes and edit the .vmx instead.  If you still have questions after that cleaning of the .vmxf file and modifying the .vmx file and then archive them both in a zip file and attach to a response message.

• Take instant without merge to a parent

  With the help of 8 workstations, how can I take a snapshot and recover disk space without merge to the parent disk (i.e. I want to throw the changes). In particular, there is a tree of snapshots such as the following:

  baseOS

  + Characters - instantane1

  + - snap2

  + - snap3

  + (etc)

  baseOS is the snapshot once the installed operating system, name is the snapshot after a database server is instaloled with no data user in there. Each snapshot is data of a specific version of the software and is kept for a week or two for comparison purposes. When a snapshot for the years enough and is no longer necessary, I would throw and recover disk space.

  So, for example, I want to throw instantane1. I can't use "remove the snapshot" as this would be to merge the data in the current state of relationships and would then be visible when I create the snap4. I can't use "return to characters" because that remove not only instantane1 but also snap2 and snap 3.

  It seems that if I delete instantane1 current state of the virtual machine is set to characters (CDT) in the tree above. If "goto snap2" that the State is ignored, and then if I can 'goto characters' changes of instantane1 disappeared. Is there a simpler way to throw the entire contents of a snapshot?

  to do this, you must review the vmsd file.

  Read you would know what vmdk file refers to what snapshot.
  Example: Instant Oracle 11 G R2 Base can relate to diskname - 000123.vmdk

  If you are sure that you must never go back to the first branch in this case that you can then remove diskname - 000123.vmdk with your file manager, Explorer or whatever you use.

  WARNING: If you start to manually remove VMDK snapshotmanager display will become incompatible!

  If possible, I'd avoid this manual intervention.

  There is really no way to get rid of unused branches using the GUI
