  • Connect a Powervault MD1200 to a PowerEdge R710 5.1 running esx using SAS cables

    Hello

    I bought a Powervault md1200 and a perc h800 controller.

I'll install the perc controller in my PowerEdge r710 5.1 running esx server.

Then connect the md1200 to the r710 via sas cables. The powervault is no NIC.

My question is, how to configure the RAID while booting the r710? I understand that if I were on Windows, I could use open manage but I'm not familiar with how to do this from a 5.1 esx server.

    I'd appreciate any help.

    Thank you

    Flynn

    Hello Flynn,

What you need to do is to go into the Bios of your H800 controller and you can then configure your virtual disk MD1200.  Once you have the virtual disk created, then you will be able to do a scan in ESX & he should see the virtual disk that are created.  To access the boot controller bios you need to hit Ctrl + C to enter the bios.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

The server running VMware ESXi v5.0.0. We have almost maxed out storage so I need to add storage. I don't know what are the options I have to do this. These are the options that are possible, I hope.

    • Add 500 GB (3) discs the same as installed readers and create a 2nd RAID5.
    • Add (3) 1 or 2 to 7.2 K near-Line SAS 2.5 "drives and create a 2nd RAID5.

I got a PowerEdge R710 with no hard drives (and out of warranty). I added 6 WD RE3 1 TB disks. I'm new on PERC controllers and don't know how to start the implementation of this table. Is there documentation for a complete reconstruction of this server?

  • Problem updating iDRAC and LC on Poweredge R710

    Hello

I am facing problems updating one of our Poweredge R710 (all others worked like a charm). Using OME I could install almost all day, but iDRAC (Firmware 1.10--> 1.95) updates and controller of lifecycle (application 0--> 1.6.0.73) will not be successfully completed.

OME to ESM_Firmware_CMDN0_WN32_1.95_A00 error message. EXE: "performance operation exceeded a specified time-out period. The update has not completed; You must restart your system and try again. "(even after several server restarts the message is always the same).

Error message in OME for lifecycle - Controller_Application_GFFFC_WN32_1.6.0.73_A00. EXE: "update failed: failed to secure copy - the secure copy function has failed.

When starting the server "Update Services system requirements" is shown in the upper right of the bootscreen. I've tried ressetting iDRAC (Ctrl + E at the start), turn off the server for 30 minutes (cable unplugged, replugged, waited 5 minutes, powered by the server) update system Build & Update Utility thorugh with SUU 7.3.1 and finally using the CentOS OM 7.3 Live DVD. None of this has worked successfully and I have no more ideas. Maybe someone has a?

  • PowerEdge R710 and perc h700, disc not visible in OS

    Hey,.

We have PowerEdge R710 with perc h700 raid 5 controller physical drives under raid6 running. We have recently added a sixth of the road which is much smaller (512 against 4 TBS) we want to just format and use it as a normal drive in the OS (Ubuntu 12.04.5).

However, the drive is not visible in the operating system. When you enter the settings of the RAID controller that it says that the drive is READY but not configured and all the options to the title of operations are grayed out. How can we make this hard drive is visible in the operating system?

    See you soon

The H700 does NOT support non RAID, so all records first must be configured on the controller, before its presentation to the BONE. You must configure (initialize) as a single drive RAID 0.

  • New SATA HDD are not detected on PowerEdge R710

    Hi guys,.

I have a PowerEdge R710 with the reference number below

Service number: ADMIN NOTE: maintain the label removed by privacy policy > | Express service code:

ADMIN NOTE: kidnapped by the Express service code privacy policy >

I have 2 x 750 GB SATA HDD that are not detected at boot of the server. Obviously, the installation of Windows Server 2012 is not possible because it does not find any drive installed in the system

Please help as I am new to the hardware configuration.

    Thank you in advance.

You must configure RAID first. If you use the RAID S100 controller on board, it is not compatible with 2012.

  • Adding additional disk to ESXi 4.1 Datastore on Dell PowerEdge R710

    Greetings,

We currently have a Dell PowerEdge R710 with 6 SAS das drives configured in a RAID-1/RAID-5 configuration. A drive is configured as a global hot spare. I would add this spare drive in the RAID-5 table, where some virtual machines live, to recover additional space. Has someone managed to do this? Is the only way via the PERC BIOS management utility?

    Thank you!

I'm not part "raid-1/raid-5.  But assuming that the table is raid-5, then yes it is possible and yes the BIOS utility is necessary.  The hot spare is currently set should be removed from this role, then added to the existing Bay raid-5, but without the ability to select increase.  This will create free space on the raid-5 array on which then a new logical volume can be created, which will be then seen by ESX as a new drive and therefore another data store can be added to this (or it can be added to the first as a measure).  HTH

  • PowerEdge R710 24GO of RAM 40 GB upgrade

    Hello

Our PowerEdge R710 has 2 processor E5620 and 24 GB of RAM (6 x 4GB Dual Rank registered synchronous DDR3 1333 MHz). The memory is set to optimizer mode and uses the memory following media:

    • A1
    • A2
    • A3
    • B1
    • B2
    • B3

In the next 12 hours we want to add 4 x 4 GB of additional RAM (modules) so that we have 40 GB of RAM instead of 24 GB. The owner's manual gives only configurations for 32 or 48 GB RAM. What should be used? The following configuration is correct?

    • A1
    • A2
    • A3
    • A4
    • A5
    • B1
    • B2
    • B3
    • B4
    • B5

    M., accommodation,

    With the configuration of the CPU, as well as the existing configuration, you would not be able to add 4 DIMMS to 4 GB. Either you need to add 6 2 DIMM 4 GB or 4 GB DIMMS. It will be because of the rule of memory you must also complete 3 memory channels. With this said beening DIMMs would be met as one of the following values;

Addition of 6 4 GB DIMMS (two results in 48 GB)

    A1, A4, A7, A2, A5 and A8 / B1, B4, B7, B2, B5 and B8

    or

    A1, A4, A2, A5, A3 and A6 / B1, B4, B2, B5, B3 and B6

Addition of 2 4 GB DIMM

    A1, A2 and A4, A5 / B5, B2, B1 and B4

Let me know if this helps to clarify.

  • DELL PowerEdge R710 and PERC H700 RAID driver for WIn 2008 Std

    Hi all

    I have a DELL PowerEdge R710 with a controller RAID PERC H700.

I try to install Windows 2008 Std 64 bit, but I can't find the driver. Even for the site web at support.dell.com. Can someone help me.

    THX in advance

Even if you use a driver of 2008, it should at least recognize it, then you must be using the wrong driver or something wrong :)

If you are installing 2008 R2, make sure that you use this file:

If you install 2008 x 64, make sure that you use this file:

With one, you must first unlock the .exe (right click on the .exe, properties, unlock), unzip / extract the files (run it and make a note of the default location), and then copy the 4 files on a CD, USB, etc., then when Windows tells you that he is not all hard disks, click on the link drivers load below to load the drivers from the media you have chosen.
