Help: TECRA 8000 Memory slot B mailfunction

Hello
I have a Tecra 8000 for 5 years.

Now slot memory B seems to be no longer works:
If it is filled, the computer does not start (are turned on, but no activity, even no toshiba logo screen)
If it is empty, the computer starts OK with 128 MB in the slot A

Issues related to the:
1. is it possible to repair this and what should I check first?
2. According to the specification, maximum memory for tecra 8000 is 256 MB. Is it possible to insert all the stack memory of 256 MB in the slot and leave the slot empty B?

Thank you
Michael.

Hi Michael,

In my opinion the slot B is defective. You're right about the capacity of RAM. Maximum memory is 256 MB of RAM. It is tested with 256 MB of RAM but apparent with both parts of memory because I have found no extension of memory 256 MB for Tecra 8000.

It is possible that it works properly, but you must try it on your own risk. To play that's for sure, you need to connect a Toshiba Service partner!

Good luck

    I have a model tecra 8100 not: PT810L 12 c 42.

I had problem with slot B mem, so collapsed to use it. Then I upgraded my RAM and inserted a 128 Mb TOSHIBA THLY6416G1FG-80 RAM PC100-222-620 slot A and used for a month. Then he suddenly went dead one day and did not boot at all.

I took it to the point of service, they found somehow it work by sticking a piece of paper btw Aries and the cover. I used another week with ram cover duck taped it. Same story, then dead in the middle of winXP, switched off and no boot again. It took to the same service point, they tried some other RAM chipsets that it refused to start.

The interesting thing is; When they inserted a faulty RAM in slot A and non-use slot B we get the message "memory incompatible chipset" on the screen. With the RAM mentioned above in the slot B (problem as always) and the A we get nothing, just a blank screen, DVD slot starts green lit, but nothing.

    ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE

    Hello

I n know where you tried to upgrade the memory but as Lisa suggested this was not a serious technician. I changed and upgraded memory on multiple PCs, and you must use 100% compatible modules! You shouldn't t install the modules with a brute force or use strange things as a communication between the housing and the memory module.
Possible slots are damage due to use this procedure. But I hope you're a lucky man and everything will work correctly.

If you n t know which modules are right and taken in charge so you should contact the service partner authorized Toshiba for the right and the upgrade modules.

    Good luck

  • Tecra 8000: No memory available to connect with area map PC

I have a Tecra 8000 running Win98 SE and use a card PCMCIA 3Com for my Internet connection. I was troubleshooting my computer on another issue and in the process disabled Cardbus PCMCIA Toshiba ToPIC controllers. After you have enabled these again once I am more able to communicate with the PC card and so unable to connect to the Internet.

Card troubleshooting agent PC States: "Windows is not able to identify or use the inserted PC card device because there is no available memory area to connect with this device. 2 memory range - 001000 0c - 0C001FFF

When I run the Diagnostics on the Modem does not respond to the exception of the following:

Any help or advice will be appreciated.

Have you tried to uninstall the Cardbus drivers? Not sure about the location in Win98 (in XP it is in Device Manager), go to "PCMCIA adapters" and uninstall all entries in controller.

Reboot and Win98 will perform his routine "new hardware found". This is going to re - install drivers and with a bit of luck should solve your problem.

  • Memory Maximum Tecra 8000

It's one of these issues "can I extend my old laptop a little further.

I have a Tecra 8000. He has 256 MB of memory in a single module of memory in one of the two memory slots. There is a free slot.

Can I put another (probably 256 MB) memory module in the other slot to give me a total of 512 MB?

I have a downloaded product specification that says that 256 MB is the maximum, but it is dated April 2000 and it is unclear if this is a fundamental limitation product or just the maximum that Toshiba would supply in 2000. I also met some PC where these kinds of limitations have been increased by subsequent versions of BIOS.

The laptop has the current BIOS (Version 9.3) installed.

    Hello

Well, as far as I know this device supports max 256 MB SDRAM (2x128MB).
Moreover, I found these compatible modules.
    PA2060U 32 MB
    PA2061U 64 MB
    PA2062U 128 MB

To my knowledge it of not possible to put another module into the slots, because it is a specification of the motherboard.
By hand, I found a cool site with Tecra 8000 pieces. Visit this link:

  • Memory config for Tecra 8000 PIII/500

Can someone clarify this for me - I guess that the memory config for it would be the same as for a PC. Can I mix and match modules memory too long that I do not exceed the maximum of 256 MB. Apart from the conflict, a 133 MHz module would just run at the 100 MHz FSB speed.

So I could add a module of 128 MB 100 MHz for the standard 64 MB DIMM equipping the Tecra 8000 do 192 Mb or a single 256 MB 100 MHz module... OR 2 x 128 MB...

    Thank you very much

    Hello

as far as I know the Tecra 8000 has no FSB 100 speed!

So pay attention to your turn to mixture.

There are a few Tecra 8000 who BusTyp: 66 MHz Front Side Bus (1.6 volts).

    Good bye

  • Beginner looking for the best upgrade memory for Tecra 8000

Hello - I am currently looking to upgrade the memory on my Tecra 8000 the current 96 of at least 256.

Is it possible that I can't find info on 256 MB extensions that are compatible

I also want to upgrade my hard drive of at least 20 Gb, but I think it will be easier

Any advice would be much appreciated

    Hello

In my opinion, you should contact the Service partner and ask them what a memory module is compatible with your laptop. I found that PC100 128 MB (PA3005U) is certainly usable for Tecra 8000.

Please be careful because all modules may not be recognized by BIOS correctly.

It is possible that 256 MB RAM PA3069U - 1 M 25 is compatible but I'm not sure about this. Pick up information by the Service partner before buy you one.

  • Need help installing a Tecra 8000 wireless

I just bought the wife an old laptop tecra 8000 and like to run wifi on it, I bought a d-link router and a d-link usb adapter, but he said I would impose a usb high speed and it n, t, raise the router a pcmia card would work better, also can anyone suggest a modem/router and card that works on it, any help is appreciated...

    Hello

The Tecra 8000 supports only USB 1.1 standard.
Are high speed USB 2.0 ports
Many USB devices are designed only for USB 2.0 and I guess that your USB WLan adapter also supports the 2.0 standard.

The PCMCIA should work better. There is no standard limitations as on the USB ports.

  • Need info on RAM for a TECRA 8000

I'm looking for a bit of RAM for my old laptop Tecra 8000 PII 300 model n PAT800E-B94A-GR.

Can I use 256 MB or larger? What is important to look for? I have no much experience in computer hardware.

    Who has an idea?

Thx for all the help of the Germany Thomas

    Hello

I found some interesting info on this good old classic. Your Tecra can handle with max 256 MB of RAM. Tecra 8000 has two memory slots, and you can use two 128 MB modules.

Module 128 MB compatible is with PA2062U part number.

  • Tecra 8000 does not start after the BIOS update

From one day to the other does not start my Tecra 8000 (400 MHz/256 MB BIOS 9.30 for years). After start-up, the disc starts to turn, but the screen including the backlight remains completely black, without red logo TOSHIBA BIOS is not accessible.

I got a new mainboard on stock, so I replaced it, and it worked. Unfortunately now my WLAN card now did not work properly. I tried several settings of the BIOS with no results, so I decided to do an update of the BIOS from 7.50 to 9: 30. After the upgrade, I get the message "ROM WRITE successful, utility completed. LEADER BIOS: Tecra8000 v 9,30 ". Because what either kept silent, I pressed the power button to restart and heard a long and many short beeps (endless). I could interrupt what pressing the powerbutton for 5s.

After turning on again I have the same problem as described in the first line :-( I can't get into the BIOS, but I can again update (with pressed F12). Once again these beeps.

What to do with these beeps after average BIOS update? I replaced the MoBo connector LED with pension. Processor, memory, keyboard and HD has remained the same. So, before I start disassembling the machine, please notify, your help is very appreciated.

    Hello Joachim

I'm not a technician and don t know what the beeps but I am afraid that the BIOS chip is damaged. Because of this, the unit is completely dead. Sorry, but I really don t believe you can do anything. Maybe the new motherboard again :(

  • Tecra 8100 2nd Slot of RAM does not

    Hello

I just tried to install additional RAM in my Tecra 8100 and it is not displayed in the info XP Pro system.

The chips I tried everything work and are PC100 144 pin. I tried a combination of 2 X 64 MB, 1 X 256 MB and 1 X 128 MB, but in each case, I get only one of them showing as installed.

Everyone knows a similar problem? Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do to ensure that both can be picked up?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Marc

    [Edited by: admin 7 May 05 16:28]

    Hi Marc

In my view here may not be a problem with the RAM modules as you use the right one. For Tecra 8100, you can use max 512 MB in two locations. If there is problem with just two slot that we some malfunctions. As much as I know there is no any kind of switch function where you can enable or disable the second memory slot.

  • Tecra 8000 discs and USB

    Hello

Is it possible to use a disc USB (data and audio) with the Tecra 8000? USB drives did not exist when I bought the laptop but floppy disks, as you know.
I tried, but the message "unable to find a drive" or something like that pops up.

    Thank you for your help.

    Dino

What you mean under USB drives? Maybe memory sticks USB?

  • Tecra 8000: Desk Station V + chipset/HDD on Debian Linux?

    Hello!

I have a Toshiba Tecra 8000 and a desk Station V, currently under Debian Linux.
The HARD drive I have in my docking station is functional, but very slow (and I know that's not the drive itself, it works very well in another computer). I can't seem to activate the DMA ("' HDIO_SET_DMA failed: operation not permitted", is it still possible for hard disks anchored? "), but it works with one internal.

The HD internal (had) gets pretty decent speeds, but externally (hde) works at a snail's pace:

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm-t/dev/hda
    / dev/hda:
Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 14 MB to 4.94 seconds = 2.83 MB / sec

    Ulmo: / etc # hdparm t/dev/hde
    / dev/hde:
Calendar reads disc in the buffer: 2 MB in 3.92 seconds = 522,50 kB / sec

Any suggestions? A fact, anyone know if the Desk Station V requires any configuration of chipset/IDE controller or support?

    Thanks for any help whatsoever.

    Hello

As much as I know the Station V Plus office devoted additional features to Enhanced Port Replicator II as follows:
a PCI/ISA bus and a bus PCI expansion slots, a Bay 5 inches.
a selectable Bay and a built-in SCSI-2 (Small Computer System Interface) controller.
I also found information on the net that the Desk Station V plus supports also only the UDMA2.

Well, I think that the internal interface for laptop is a bit faster than the DSV.

  • Tecra 8000 and broadband connection

    Hi all

I recently asked to watch Tecra 8000 a friends (PII 233) and give it a bit of an update... Don't know why the most I've ever done, is to add a few small components in my PC at home!

My question is - is this possible for a connection broadband to be put in place - I looked all over the laptop, but don't find nothing which would suggest it is possible.
(Also what other improvements should be can) watching us.

Sorry for the noobness, but any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

    Ben

Wow this is really an oldie
Broadband do you mean the LAN port?

As far as I know that the Tecra 8000 was not equipped with LAN port.
It s really amazing but it is a fact

However, if you want to use LAN then I advise you to buy a PCMCIA (Cardbus 32-bit) LAN card that would be allows to connect the Tecra 8000 to LAN.

    See you soon

  • Tecra 8000 sees no PCMCIA network card

I don't get my Belkin network card Wireless PCMCIA connected to my Tecra 8000.
That's all new win 2000, including all updates and I don't know that the pcmcia slot is working very well.

The problem during the installation of this card is that the tecra does not see the network card.
Does anyone have an idea how to solve this problem. Network adapter is Belkin F5d7010 54 Mb.

Try to change some settings in the BIOS.
In the configuration box, you can set the configuration of device option to all devices.
In addition, in the area PC card, you can try changing the compatible option CCIP or CardBus / 16-bit.

Play with these settings and check if a this will allow the card.

PS: Have you installed all the drivers that should be shipped with this card?

Have you tried to get into the BIOS?
    Check it out.
But usually after the update laptop BIOS should properly work and boots.
Have you followed the instructions on the BIOS update on the page of Toshiba?
Maybe you did something wrong and the motherboard is damaged.
