How do you get files off a bad 1 TB HHD? Want to move them to another new 1 TB HARD drive. Using Win7 64 bit HP Pavillion I5 system

Rusty17 wrote: How do you get files off a bad 1 TB HHD? Want to move them to another new 1 TB HARD drive. Using Win7 64 bit HP Pavillion I5 system

Hello Rusty17, can advise you the disk hard 'bad' has completely failed and is not usable?

If so, you wouldn't be able to move all the data from the failed hard drive to the new 1 TB HARD drive.

There are companies that can recover all or part of these files, but it is very expensive.

If the failed hard drive is still running, it may be possible to perform a checkdisk procedure and try to repair the parts away from the hard drive and if it succeeds, could recover some of these files. It depends on the State of the failed hard drive.

  • Envy 15 k233ca: memory upgrades and hhd

I'm trying to find out if the k233ca has a capacity of upgrade. By reading the plug here and there, the motherboard has 2 slots and there is 1 to 8 GB 1600 Mhz DDR3L module.

When I called customer service to see if there was a favorite of the seller, they told me that the Ram was not expandable as the machine has only 1 location and tot of the MB does support up to 8 GB.

    Well...

As a technician, I'm leaning towards believing the former rather than the latter, and since I did not open upward again, I checked Everest and it shows 2 slots, one with a 8 GB module and a location empty.

Before I open the unit to find this information for me, I wondering if someone is more familiar with this device, or can point me to a more detailed specifications and current page?

    My questions are specifically,

    1. What is the model of the motherboard more precisely and will support 16 gig?
    2. This is a configuration of dual slot, so I can use 2 x 8 GB modules?
    3. Can I use a low latency Ram? replace the original module to match of course...
    4. Is there a QVL for this MB?

Now for the HHD, a question... This machine will support SSD?

    Based on the HP ENVY 17 Notebook PC HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC HP ENVY Notebook PC - Maintenance and Service Guide of m7, it seems you should be able to switch to 16 GB of RAM and an SSD as follows;

    Memory

    Two SODIMM slots
Support of the DDR3L - 1600 MHz Dual Channel
Supports up to 16 GB of RAM in the following configurations:
    ● 4096 MB total memory (4096 × 1).
    ● 8192 MB total memory (4096 × 2)
    ● 8192 MB total memory (8192 × 1).

    Supports the following drives:
    ● 1.5 to 5400 RPM, 9.5 mm
    ● 1 TB 5400 RPM, 9.5 mm
    ● 750 GB 5400 RPM 9.5 mm
    ● 500 GB 5400 RPM 7mm / 9.5 mm for PC portable HP ENVY 15 only
    The hybrid configurations

    SSD drive

Only configured with up to 8 GB system memory:
    ● 256GO M.2 SATA (MLC)
    ● 256GO M.2 SATA (TLC)
Double storage configuration for the HP Envy 17 computer models
    ● 1 TB (5400) 9. 5 mm + 256 GB SSD SATA in m2 (TLC)
    ● 1 TB (5400) 9. 5 mm + 256 GB SSD SATA in m2 (MLC)

Please note that it requires an extensive disassembly and reassembly of the computer to make these improvements, including

remove, replace or loosening the screws up to 83. Also, note that other RAM/HDD/SSD configurations can run on this computer. It may be possible to have a facility that includes 16GB of RAM, a standard SATA III SSD and/or m2 SATA SSD card, but you will have to experiment to see specifically what works on your model.

  • HP Compaq 6370b: Clean partition Win 7 install question

    My first post.

I have a laptop HP Compaq 6370b, S/N [number of Series edited by Moderator] running Win XP and plan on running a new install for Win 7 Pro 32 bit. I have upgraded the BIOS (as suggested by the forum) at F.20 on 16/12/2014 and reviewed messages on the partition for HP tools. My question is when I format the existing HHD I must add a partition for the HP tools? A response by Dragon fur message leads me to believe that the download and installation of HP tools UEFI create a folder on the operating system drive and I would not require an additional partition.  Thanks for your help.

    Hello

Should uefi tools be installed on a separate FAT or Fat32 partition to work properly

When you download and run the UEFI software, the installer will give you the opportunity to automatically create the HP_TOOLS partition (if it does not already exist on the HARD disk) - for more details, see the "Prerequisites" topic on the following link.

  • X 51 questions R3 SSD Upgrade

My new PC arrived a few hours ago. After a few minor issues, it works.

I am very impressed, it's much better than I imagined. My biggest fear was the installation of my SSD. I've seen a few videos, how to install it on a system with regular air cooling, but I waited tons of pipes to prevent me from accessing my ports.

Was shocked when I unscrewed the hypothesis aside and realized that it's still easier than the version at cooling by air. Even for a person like me, with a little big hands and fingers, it is almost impossible to break whatever it is, if you want to add an SSD. My old computer was about 3 x the size of this and it was horrible to have access to one of these ports, for a noob like me.

However, I lack a few cables, so I can't test it. For now, I would like to prepare a few things, and I have a few questions:

-I will not use the operating system on the HARD drive, once I can plug my SSD, which has windows 7 already installed, I intend to format. Lose any sort of warranty when I do? (in spite of the specific software McAffee and Dell)

-In case there is a problem in the future, to return the PC to Dell for repair, I have to remove my SSD and before additional cables?

-In which case I can not find a good solution for storing the SSD inside of the case, I thought out ports and in reconnecting it outside. To do this, I have to be a hole in the beautiful case - that I don't really feel like OO - that would be detrimental to my warranty for the system as a whole?

-Another idea was to remove the power cable connector and pass each litz wire to the rear end of the carcass and put them through the ventilation grille and plug in the connector across it. It is also something I want to do, if possible. For me it looks complicated and stupid, but could work. Could it be?

    FS5.directupload.NET/.../b8o3sstm.jpg

-Videos on youtube suggest to fix the SSD inside, but the orange marked points are too small. I have a SATA one 'old' it's quite thin, but still too thick to place it there. And the most often suggested optical drive is not available for this PC. Currently I think to be placed on the coverage area, red side. Unfortunately, this area is not completely flat. So I just can't put some Velcrow here. I need to create a flat space with a few sheets of plastic, where I can put the Velcrow and then fix the SSD. Now my question is: if I create a socket for the SSD and install it, must it be removable - in case I need to send to Dell for repair?

-The next variant was to use the green area in the image, that the gap between boards. If I put a T piece, I could place the SSD on top of it. This seems to be the easiest solution so far. I've got the materials to create such a piece, that I don't know how to fix on the flat metal. The gap is a bit narrow, and I'm sure that double-sided tape will work for a long time. I intend to place the computer on its side, which means that the T-piece would be maintained vertically. But due to the cooler of closing the vertical part must be a little longer and because of the tension of the cables, he must remain in place or damage other parts: s. anyone got experience with this? Any suggestions for glue? And same as above, I have to remove it in the event of repairs?

-My last idea was a bit easy to remove, but not so easy to install. I would use two blue areas on the photo. On the right, I would use the holes in the ventilation grid to put two sticks in. Those who would go right to left where I could put just a bit to cylinder block horizontally - where I can set the two sticks. Then I could just use some cord, wire or tape to attach the SSD on the sticks. The sticks would be made of wire, metal, covered with Scotch. What do you think?

I have to admit that I'm not a professional with material things. Which probably exacerbates the situation together, but I'm a few steps away from my goal. I'm happy for ideas, suggestions and criticism. I doesn't do anything yet, except in the cases of opening and plug in an additional SATA cable.

Thank you and sorry for the long text.

    See attachment X 51 - ssd.jpg.

My X 51 R3 is water cooled and the HHD is below the video card Nvidia GeForce GTX 960.

I used Scotch Permanent Double face foam, mounting tape and asked my SSD drive on my HHD drive. The video card has no problem editing in its support with the SSD on top of the HHD. Use two small pieces of the size of your little fingernail of the figure. More and you will never get the SSD to the coast of the other disk HHD.

You have two black HHD Sata connections. You can change which drive is primary and secondary by changing the order of the cables. The black connector next to the blue sata (DVD) connection is a primary drive (in the image of jpg the Red sata cable is plugged into the main connector). Connect the SSD in this regard and the SSD is the startup disk.

You can Motors manual switch at startup by pressing F12 and selecting the drive you want.

You may need to run the Disk Manager to make sure that both drives are online.

There is a video on YouTube is very well show you what cables you need.

  • The upgrade of the HHD w\o recovery disk... Will this work?

Can I move the old HHD (c:\) and replace it with a new one, and after that reboot hit the f10 to enter the recovery off the org drive system. ? This will work. I do not have the disk recovery and this idea just poped in any where. Since the org hhd. is partitioned into two disks, IE: C:\ and E:\ (pationtion recovery) if it does not work?    Errrrrrrrrrrrrrr... Which brings me to another question, if this is feasible, how can I go the patition of recovery to the new drive, so I can re - format the old (C;- & E;------) drive. Thanks in advance to all those who post a reply.

As long as the recovery has completed successfully and the operating system is installed properly, we can work with that.  You must use diskpart or a utility to remove the (unnecessary if you have a support of recovery) recovery partition, and then expand the C partition to fill the rest of the disc.  The recovery media is supposed to replace all out there - so you have to work in the post-recuperation of partitions, not before he does.

If you are uncomfortable poking around in Diskpart, feel free to- but you may need to re-run the recovery.  Instead, you can use a utility like Partition Magic, but most of those who are paid for.

Edit: Or delete the recovery partition, reduce the size of C, then create another partition to fill the remainder of the disk space.

  • Need advice on setting up my new SSD with a HHD

I want to transfer my win7 OS and some of my software highly used to my new (500 GB) SSD. My old HHD (500 GB), I like to keep my user files.  When I say userfiles is the designated My Documents, my pictures, my videos, etc.

I'll use "Acronis True Image" to copy my HHD on my SSD. Then I was going to reformat my HHD call my D: drive and move my Userfiles to this HHD.

Can someone tell me if this is a good way to put my userfiles on one disc while keeping my OS win7 on my SSD. Should I know, things to watch?

    Thanks in advance.

I now want to put all userfiles who don't get a lot of use on my E: Can anyone advise how I can do?

-> Mobile only some of the files is not a good idea. You end up with a confusing system. Much better to move the complete user libraries. You can do it like this:

    1. Make sure you have an external backup of your files to the user. Important always files must be at least two independent media. See here what can happen when you ignore this rule.
    2. Format E: drive.
    3. Create the folder E:\Mettam\Music.
    4. Click the start planet, and then click Mettam to open your libraries.
    5. Right click 'Music', and then click Properties.
    6. Click on 'Move', then enter E:\Mettam\Music as a folder target.
    7. Check if your music files have been moved to the E: drive.
    8. Repeat the process for your remaining files Documents, pictures, videos, downloads. I let the other folders where they are.
    9. Be sure to check your backup process engages the moved files.

Don't forget to mark answers that will answer your questions as "Response" to this topic.

  • Cloning of a HHD to SDS

Recently I bought an SSD and used Macrium Reflect to clone my HHD (Bootable with OS; Windows7) to the SDS. The process went well, connecting the SSD to the same port MB as the HARD drive has been connected, PC started and and works fine.

I chose only the sector of the OS on the HARD drive to clone for the SSD (he had a partition D:\ Image factory; didn't clone because the image was Vista, and Desktop was Win7 upgrade... 32 bit..) the new SSD cloned with 2 Partitions... (the C:\drive SSD is a 240 GB drive)... the size of the OS Patition C:\ cloned about 224GB and the difference in a D:\ Partition.

Since I only cloned Partition to the OS, is there a reason for the cloning process has created 2 Partitions? The D:\ is empty and usable. Tried to contact Macrium; they will not respond...

    Hi Denmarfl,

Sorry for the delay in responding.

As you clone your HARD drive, your question of Windows is more complex than what is generally answered in the Microsoft Answers forums. Appropriate in the TechNet forums.

Please post your question in the Windows 7 IT Pro TechNet Forums: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/home?category=w7itpro

  • Is it safe to remove the original on my HHD files after I burned them to a DVD?

This may seem a simple question for some of the pros, but I almost had my finished project.

I need to know if after I save my Master project on a DVD can I remove my HHD files and use the project saved on the DVD to edit future work?

I guess what I'm asking is if the DVD needs the Max code, or backup the files on my HHD to make it work.

I used Nero8 to burn it on a Standard DVD. The time is 104-minute HD files that I took using mini cassetts.

The DVD does not work on my DVD player, but I still need to add menus and do some last minute touch ups.

I was hoping to clean my HHD to the previous (over a year) worth of files and pieces.

    Thank you once again.

    Jim

    zjimbo:

To the video production company, I work for, we tried several forms of backup. In my opinion, a backup on DVD without danger can best be put in place by the first open the project you want to save in the first.  Then go to the Project menu. From the Project menu, select Project Manager. Once in the project manager, create a copy full of your project to one of your internal hard drives. First place this copy in a folder and it will contain everything you need to reopen the project and change it at a later date. Before you burn discs, first open this project copied, just to make sure everything is right. Burn the entire file that was exported from the DVD project manager. That someone else has suggested, make some copies. Use good quality DVD discs.  The guy to the duplication House we recommend Verbatim. It also recommends that you do not use the Memorex discs.

  • Question of cloning for SSD upgrade on 12 Macbook Pro

Previously, I did an upgrade to SSD on my Macbook Air to 2012 according to the instructions of JetDrive transcend. Basically connection via USB 3 and using Mac OS X to clear (and format) disc utilities new SSD, then restore again SSD and then remove the original 128 GB SSD and insert the new 480 GB SSD.  For about a month and so far without problem.

Now I'm trying to 2012 Macbook upgrade my Pro partner (on 10.11.6).  I got a Crucial SSD MX300 to replace his HARD drive.  Crucial comes with (or recommend) Acronis software.  And a lot of the messages of the forum recommend Carbon Copy Clone.

My question is if I can use the same method for the cloning of the HD as my Macbook Air (just restore disk of Mac OS X utilities)?  This time, I'm upgrading HARD drive and I don't know if something is different.  At the same time, if I got lucky the first time, I don't not ruin Macbook Pro my spouse this time.

    Thank you.

Yes, you can use disk utility to clone your MBP wives, but unlike CCC, it will not clone the recovery and Partition.

  • Question about resolution movie downloads

If I buy a movie at a certain resolution (780p for example), but I want more later re - download at a higher or lower resolution (SD or 1080 p), can I do so and how?

Same question perhaps for music. Some of my songs have been bought before the latest Apple codecs.

    Any help is appreciated!

    THX!

Once you have made a purchase on the iTunes store, you will see your purchased items in the menu under accounts bar > bought. You can simply select the item purchased and re-upload.

With regard to the resolution of the film for films that are offered, and you select the resolution, you can download it again and select a different resolution. For movies that are available as separate download to SD, 780, or 1080 points, you would be limited to the original resolution you selected.
