Highlight using finger as mouse

How can I highlite on a document when I use my finger instead of a mouse to type?   I have a laptop with windows 8.

Hi Rosey21.

Thanks for the request of validation on the Microsoft communities

Please follow the steps mentioned below, if you use a finger instead of a mouse.

If text is on the screen, you can press on and highlight it. To highlight several words, circles of both ends can be dragged along to select all the text that you want to include. It can be tedious, so on a test Web page to zoom (by pinching the screen with two fingers) to make your life easier.
Once something has been copied, you can paste it by using the Clipboard option that will appear above the keyboard to the screen.

Please follow the steps mentioned below to highlight the text if you use the keyboard.

(a) you will need to place the cursor at the beginning of a word or phrase that you are trying to highlight, before the first letter. This can be done by using your mouse.

(b) once you have confirmed that the cursor is in front of the first letter of the word/phrase you are trying to highlight, press and hold the 'Shift' key and keep it pressed.

(c) now start to press the right arrow key, while keeping the 'Shift' key. You will see that you give the right arrow with each key tap, you will highlight one character per tap. If you highlight a large amount of text, keep the right arrow key held down while you're now the 'Shift' key.

(d) repeat this movement until you have highlighted as much text as you need.

Hope the above information helps.

  • Possible bug found in hyperlinkctrl.c when you use the "VAL_POINTING_FINGER_CURSOR" mouse cursor in your own user interface.

Hi people, I think I found a bug in the hyperlinkctrl.c custom control, after the update/upgrade an old project CVI.

I found when I started using the "VAL_POINTING_FINGER_CURSOR" mouse in my UI, when adding a new hyperlink control.

The error is recoverable error: ' from the mouse cursor is not valid.

This error breaks in RunUserInterface (never seen anything like this before and I use CVI since version 3.1).

This happens whenever I mouse - hovering anywhere on the Panel that contains the new hyperlink control.

I also had a hack temporary to solve the problem, for now, I'll pass it along to this announcement...

The hyperlink control's source code is located in \toolslib\custctrl\hyperlinkctrl.c

The bug/problem lies in the service of reminder (of HyperLinkPanelCallback), specifically in lines 460 to 465.

This hyperlink control wants to use the VAL_POINTING_FINGER_CURSOR as its default cursor when you hover over the custom hyperlink.

However, if you already use 'VAL_POINTING_FINGER_CURSOR' in your user interface, the branch which verifies that you use what he thinks is 'his own' thread-safe mouse cursor ID, so that can reset it by using his "token concatenation" - created macro "GetTsvCursor", is not an 'else' branch to protect the picture when you actually use the cursor pointing finger... where the error that the mouse cursor is not valid. Here is the snippet of these lines.

The mouse is not over a hyperlink
    If (cursor is VAL_POINTING_FINGER_CURSOR)
    {
Reset the cursor to the previous cached cursor
    cursor = GetTsvCursor();
    errChk (SetMouseCursor (cursor));

    ... etc...

    }

So my hack was to change the type of cursor to "VAL_CHECK_CURSOR" in place and place the cursor of "VAL_POINTING_FINGER_CURSOR" in three locations in this function, then rebuilt files x 86 and x 64.

Hey Luis, finally win a free T-shirt of LabWindows/CVI with not only have reported this bug, but also to give the precise location of the source, as well as a work around?

In the meantime, I have submitted a bug with ID #545203 report to track down this problem.

Hey there, here are some tips that might solve your problem.

1 - Make sure you are on the last update. To see if updates are available for your trackpad, open the App Store and click the updates at the top of the window.

    2-

    Check your settings

Assuming that there were no updates available (or they do not solve your problem), the first port of call should always be your trackpad settings. Many complaints can be resolved simply tweaking a few options

  • Pro L10: After using a wireless mouse, the touch pad has stopped working

Pro L10. After using a wireless mouse, the built in touch pad has stopped working properly. At the start of the keypad icon touch shows and the touchpad works intermittently, after a few minuets, the icon disappears and the touch pad stops working. In the control panel / mouse & or device drive I can how the program works, then disappears.

I deleted the software and reinstalled nothing doesn't. In some cases, I get a message that a pointer is on.

    Can you help me?

    Hello

It seems that the wireless mouse or mouse wireless drivers/software has a bad influence on the touchpad.
I put t have a good solution for this problem. Well, you can consult the page of the Toshiba driver for latest driver updates. If the updates doesn't solve this problem I suggest to use either the mouse wireless and disable the touchpad with FN + F9 key combination or use a regular USB mouse.
I guess that you are having regular problems with a USB mouse.

  • Equium A100-147: can I use an external mouse wired or wireless

Hi just bought an A100-147, anyone knows if I can use an EXTERNAL MOUSE wired or wireless

    Hi Peter,.

You should, as far as I know, be able to use two types of mouse; I know that many people find it more natural and easier than the mouse pad integrated, but that is purely a personal preference.

A wired mouse plug directly into a USB port or a round PS/2 port, check the ports that you have before you buy anything, but you should have no problem with USB.

Use of wireless mouse a small receiver which plugs into a USB port and would be normally equipped with software to run it.

    I hope this helps.

  • NB100 - lost the use of the mouse

    Hi all
    First post (Please be nice...).

I work for a college in Nottingham, UK. We ordered and received 50 x NB100. At arrival we have returned to image drives in XP Home, XP Pro (as is the standard operating system for all facilities of the College). Things were fine until the last two days when 2 NB-100 have suddenly lost the use of the mouse pad.

They work very well with an external mouse. They were outside the internal IT Department, and they seem to think they are well broken. I don't think they are as if it is 2 I guess it may be a driver/software problem?

    All advice welcome...

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

I assume you mean the touchpad rather mousepad? The mouse pad has nothing to do with the laptop, it can easily be replaced by another =)

Anyway, if an external mouse works, you must press FN + F9 key combination. With this combination the touchpad can be turned on/off.

    Hello!

I would like to know how to use a USB mouse with 8 Thinkpad. Here in the Brazil, Lenovo does not sell any micro USB USB converters. So, I found on the market several options, but mainly focused for Android tablets and smartphones and not Windows 8.1 devices. He will work with a converter OTG? It supports this type of technology?

    Thank you!!

You can use any cable USB OTG, it's just the cable and two connectors. I use this Setup with USB keyboard. But it is more convenient to use a Bluetooth wireless mouse.

How to use finger locking and what software download please explain step by step

Welcome to the Community Forum of HP.

I do not have a business system, nor use the software Client Security - the program can always be called ProtectTools on your Windows version.

I can offer you the following Pages in your computer support - white paper guide is easy to read and easy to understand.  The document should give you a good understanding of the features of your program and may allow you to use the Client Security program on your computer.

    HP ProtectTools 2010 security software

    A couple of notes:

    Pages 12-13

Pre-seed security: often people who are locked out the pre-start safety are the owners of computers.  Either ware to outsmart yourself.  Think before you implement this "layer".  Unless you live in a dangerous environment or you are involved in a level of national or international espionage, you shouldn't pre-boot security, which is easy to break and could end up you locking.

SpareKey: Consider this insurance.  Some people forget to do.  It could save your back later.  To do this.

  • Cannot use Bluetooth notebook Mouse 5000 - mouse in Windows 7.

I do not understand, cannot use the notebook mouse 5000 in Windows7. When the Logitech mouse can. I can be found by bluetooth, but it has not installed all the drivers. And it cannot be used at last. I have no why material made by Microsoft may not be recognized by the new Microsoft System. I think it's funny. However, in the website of this mouse. It was said to be supported by Windows 7.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and you are using the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000.  I tried the way Service.MSC recommended to select automatic and then local system and then OK and and so on.  It does not work.  I thought the mouse was defective, but then I tried to pair it with three other phones and it is paired with each other.  Why not on Windows 7 system?  I found the problem.  In all humility, wait a few days before making the following fix to give time for a technical genius to say that it is a good solution or if I just open my system to a host of other issues.  What I can say to you is the failure to connect the mouse has been frustrating but the fix I suggest worked instantly.

Go to the icon START and type services. MSC and some SERVICES.  The dialog box that opens has a long list of things but find BLUETOOTH SUPPORT SERVICE and double-click or open it.  Select AUTOMATIC.  See the LOG on tab.  Choose the LOCAL SYSTEM and this is the road to nowhere.  This was the recommended fix, but it has never worked for me.  Select THIS ACCOUNT instead.  Type of LOCAL SERVICE.  NOW; If you click OK, it will say select password invalid or such.  No problem.   This; type Local Service in the dialog box, and then delete (a 15-dot-string) password points under the password and remove the string under confirm (the two password boxes are now empty).  Choose OK.  SUCCESS.  It should then tell you to STOP the service, then re - start the service before the change to take effect.  It should work now.

The first thing to understand I guess, is that there is a difference between the LOCAL SYSTEM and the LOCAL SERVICE.  Configuration help dialog box says the password in the choice of LOCAL SERVICE is a null password - that was my idea.  When I chose the LOCAL SERVICE (typing in the line of dialog box) I would always get the password box and this is what brought me to take a break.  Since it is a NULL password according to the Help menu - then you should be able to remove it?  Yes, I did.  He accepted my change and after stopping and restarting the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 service (don't use any transmitter/receiver) has worked perfectly and CONNECTED!

I compared all my other systems that accept pairing by checking SERVICES. MSC and each computer using LOCAL SERVICE AND NOT of LOCAL SYSTEM!

There you are!  As I said to the expectations of the beginning to see if a technical person writes and says "do not follow this recommendation.  I have no computer knowledge and my dose could have opened other problems outside power connect the mouse, the object of the exercise.  I'll look for it, too, in case I just create an unintended complication of other stuff like viruses, malicious this-and-that, and so on.

I post because the solution worked and I wanted to share the solution of all the many hours of total frustration in finding a solution to the question of the mouse.

  • Change the orientation of the mouse. Click the apple icon, and then select check box on the left. However, this box is covered by a video on the use of the mouse. How to remove the video?

Change the orientation of the mouse.  Click the apple icon. System Preferences; OK to this point; the area to select 'Left hand' is covered by a video on the use of mouse clicks. How can I remove the video (s) so I can't select 'Left hand' in the box?

System Preferences > mouse, and then select the tab more moves.

Then on the left, select: slide between pages

Click scroll left or right with one finger , and then make your choice.

You cannot delete the video. This is a demonstration.

  • Need help to stop my Zoom to change when you use the integrated mouse

I would like to know if anyone has a solution to my zoom change randomly when I use the built-in mouse. Is it possible to block the zoom so it does not change.

Control the Touchpad settings in Control Panel.  My ASUS Netbook has a 'two fingers' feature that performs the zoom in things like IE and Word and it's pretty easy to operate inadvertently (another feature is two-finger scrolling, which I use frequently).  If your touchpad driver has such a feature, you may need off "awareness", it or turn it off.  Most modern/current notebook computer touchpad drivers have these characteristics, and many are turned on in different, often easy to do unintentionally, average.
