Hinge broken on an old Satellite P20

My big screen P20 broke the hinges and I hear that this is a common problem :( I took it to be fixed and they said that it is not just the hinges but the inside of the lid too much is irreparable. I need to find one for spare parts, for the moment I can't touch the lid and even less close!

I hope that if I buy the outside case of your laptop, or just the cover, I have put inside in it. Anyone know where I can get one? I checked ebay and looked at this site but so far without success.

Hello

This problem is the internal displays of laptops have become larger and the size of the smallest laptop.
The laptop has small hinges of the screen so all the force is applied on a very small area causing the plastic cover the cracks.
I have to say that this question is not brand specific.

Moreover, all the parts; hinges, lid, covers can be ordered from the Toshiba service partner in your country

  • Satellite P20 S203 - where can I get the cover external big screen?

    Hi all

Anyone know where to find an outer cover of the big screen Satellite P20 S203?

I broke it because I disassembled all the pc some time ago, and as I can see now that I took out the black cover around the screen. I forgot to screw the 2 screws on the hinges that make it able to open and close. It is only broken on one of the screens, hinges, so the pc is still usable, with appropriate caution, I can still open and close, but sooner or later, I think that the other will be too broke, opening and closing of the screen all the time, so I have to replace it
    .
    Hope someone can help me.
    Good bye

    Hello

I'm not sure what cover you mean exactly, but you can get all the spare parts to an authorized service provider. On the Toshiba page, you can find a list of them.

You must only contact them by phone, for example. Explain the situation and maybe they can send you a new cover.

    Welcome them

  • HP ENVY 1090ee 6 - left hinge broken

I bought HP, Acer, Lenovo and Asus because I thought that the only thing that HP offers each time, is of exquisite build quality. However, today, I was met with a surprise. The left hinge (one near the power button) has apparently unravel, as if on its own.

Surprised as I was, I contacted the technical support. Surprise, Surprise, my warranty information is wrong. Ive lost out on half a year warranty services.

FLASH BACK: DUBAI - laptop bought on 3 February, 13 - great expectations.

SKIP TO PRESENT: INDIA - lost hinge broken and guaranteed.

Then I took a deep breath and open the HPSA faithful once again, inform the specialist my "fake date of purchase" (note that I am in India at the time). I am informed by the technician that I have 'support of the HP tech to the Arab Emirates UNITED to rectify the problem. '

    A STRIKE.

Thus, everyone knows how 'good' the guarantee are services in India. I remember having an old all-in-one HP printer. The printer does not work, so we took to the "authorized" HP nearest after-sales service. The first day we went, we were not given any "service". The next day we went, that they claimed THAT NOTHING under the guarantee it covers. They could be right, but oh well, we paid for rectification.

So now I feel like its going to be a repeat of the last time. And it's funny, because I found a large NUMBER of people having the same problem. I don't want to support the customer, waste BECAUSE I SAW them HELP OTHERS. The sad part is that these people are mostly from the States.

Maybe its not justified, but it always seems like the developing countries get the worst of both worlds. We are the highest consumer population, and yet we get the inflated prices (I know are due to many factors beyond the control of the company) and poor service.

I can't believe that there is not a single HP to Mumbai service center is, well, purely HP, and not a 3rd party "authorized dealer". I suppose that can't do anything on this subject and maybe as I write this in vain, but if someone is listening (or reading), may I suggest at least to have a third party service center. This will help a LOT.

I hope someone can help me.

  • Satellite P20 S203: update BIOS after version 1.70

Hello! I have a Satellite P20 - S203 BIOS is Ver1.70, published on 20/11/2003. I think there pretty outdated now, but there has been no new versions for years and I think that this great computer, despite the old, should be more supported. What I don't understand is why they made an exit for the PSP23E and not for the PSP20E, that make the differences that they should deserve to be updated bios different?

Does anyone of you know about BIOS versions after 1.70 which allow the laptop to boot from SD cards or removable media? And that the problems of the management of multiple USB devices?
    Thank you

    Hello

I use P20 over two years, without any update of the BIOS. If your device works well I recommend you to leave. Boot from the SD card is not possible and update the BIOS will not allow this.

What problem do you have with the USB devices?

  • Problem of graphics card on Satellite P20 552 & Qosmio G10

    Hallo,

    I have two 17-inch monitors computers laptop Toshiba as desktop replacement: 1 x Satellite P20 552 & 1 x Qosmio G10.
Both are dead graphics card problem.
The conclusion of my research on the WEB, it's the nVidia FX Go5700 card seems to be the weak point of these laptops.

On the Satellite Map dies slowly: during startup Toshiba logo disappeared but WinXP logo was very good load, then WinXP loaded with the screen not refreshing and the problem of synchronization, etc..
The Qosmio died suddenly: activities on the hard drive I guess load WinXP, but black screen (internal and external)!

I know that, unlike the desktop computer, the graphics processor is not a separate entity; It is built into the motherboard. My questions are:

    (1) who should be blamed, Toshiba or Nvidia?
    (2) how to prevent premature rupture of the card/motherboard?
    (3) the card/motherboard could be repaired?

    Hallo

I have red Satellite P20 304 and it still works well. Maybe you can offer this story to someone else, but I can say that Satellite P20 is great for laptop. I like it. Old, but still has an attractive design.
If you have no luck I can understand it but to talk in general and write about weakness is for me nothing more than absurd.

Nice questions here especially one. :)
1 - to blame someone will help any. Try to get the replacement and get it working again.
    2. There is nothing you can do. All you can do is to take care of the use of the laptop and do not overheat.
    3. as far as I know that something like this is not possible. In this case the motherboard will be replaced.

What you can do is to check eBay from time to time. You may be lucky and you can buy used motherboard for a good price and exchange it.

  • Satellite P20 can be rotated 90 degrees external display?

    Hello

I have a portable Satellite P20 304 (about 2 years now) with a graphics processor GeForce FX Go5600. I would like to rotate the image to external monitor so that I can use a size of 1200 x 1600 (height than width) rather than the 1600 x 1200 standard. I just downloaded the new Toshiba drivers nv4_disp.dll 6.14.10.4718 and also checked all offers from NVidea (their pilots do not recognize chipset). But all to no effect. I can't the nvrotate offering coming onder the GeForce FX Go5600 properties.

    Can someone help me.
    Thank you

As much as I know the graphic driver for old P20 don t have this option. Usually if you buy software external screen with special rotate option is provided that allows you to do this.

Check it please advanced option search on this forum. I'm sure that for a single user has asked the same question. You may find the answer here.

  • Satellite P20 no charging current when the machine is running

    Hello

I own a Toshiba Satellite P20. I'm having a problem with the battery. When I turn on my computer and try and charge the battery wilst working, battery is not charging.

However, when I turn off the machine the battery normally charges.

This prevents me from working for long periods because it seems that I can't work and load my machine at the same time. Help, please.

    Concerning
    Rudolf

    Hello

How old is your unit and has been the problem from the beginning?
In my opinion it is either a problem with the motherboard electronic or battery failure there. The two cases are possible.

So you could buy a new battery for a check or you will contact the ASP and technicians can find the fault.

In my opinion, you should first contact the ASP. In this case, you need not spend a lot of money for a battery which could be allowed.

    Hello

Try to start the machine in safe mode and remove the preinstalled graphics card driver. Restart the device and try again. See the download from Toshiba site and download the latest updated driver for this device. My old unit was the Satellite P20-303 and I updated with SP2 with no problems.

  • Satellite P20 S203 does not recognize my additional 1 GB memory

    Hi all

My computer (Satellite P20 S203) does not recognize my second Bank of memory (1 GB). I have two banks of memory of 1 GB installed. BIOS reports only 1 GB, Windows reports that 1 GB and my Linux so he says only 1 GB of memory. I removed each Bank of memory and restarted the computer successfully in each of the two slots, No Problem, but when the two banks of memory are inserted, it always uses only 1 GB. My BIOS is on version 2.10:

BIOS is the PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0

I know it's an old computer (about 10 years), but what could cause such a problem?

Thanks a lot for any advice or suggestions!

    Kind regards

    Hi fuegi_1,

    The upgrade modules, bought exactly?

To me it sounds like that it s a compatibility problem or your computer laptop doesn't support 2 GB.

If you use two memory modules, you must only use two modules of the same production.

  • Satellite P20 S203 stops suddenly

    Hello

In the last month my Satellite P20 S203 does so well, and unfortunately it seems that the problem is a hardware one (but I'm not sure, and that's why I'm writing here)

The computer just stops suddenly (it happened 2 or 3 times in the last 30 days); every time it happened I was on the web on Firefox, but I'm sure that has nothing to do with it, and I'm also 99% sure that this is not a virus, malware or something like that, cause I formatted there are 3 months and nothing else behave in a strange way, the computer is slow or something like that.

The last two options are that the question can be of a physical nature, or a software (as a conflict between the operating system and installed programs); I'm more to the first, but I do not know and I need assistance to find out... What should I do?

In addition, when it stops suddenly, it won't turn with the first try.
He needs like 10 or 20 times to open like an old car that won't start; the first, say, 5 times I try to turn it on, it appears only the toshiba logo.
It then passes through a screen, I can not read because it goes too fast.

Then a black screen, then it turns off again.
With the next try that it goes a bit further, as it displays the windows logo, but as this image is fading, it stops halfway through the fading process, resulting in a darker windows logo, as it is too difficult for her to load the OS!

But then it turns off again!

Then after a few other attempts it finally loads windows.

Any help would be much appreciated, thanks!

    OS: Windows XP SP2

    Hello

Maybe the laptop stops due to a higher internal temperature.
High temperature leads to an overheating of the questions and the laptop would be stops down automatically to prevent the equipment from damage.
The other point is that the high temperature may affect the RAM modules.
In this case the laptop computer may freeze or you will receive a Blue Screen Of Death.

I had a similar problem in the past. About 6 years ago my first oldie started to overheat.
I cleaned the cooling modules, but the questions again.
Finally, I contacted the laptop technician in downtown, and he said that the thermal grease that is placed between the cooling module and the CPU must be renewed.

    He did, and it helped!

  • Satellite P20-304 - how to remove the BIOS password

    Hi all

a girlfriend of mine got a Satellite P20 304 with Phoenix Bios.
She wanted that I remove the Bios password that must be entered directly after the Toshiba start screen.
So, I entered Bios with F2, went to security, entered the old password and press enter two times to a new blank password.

The Bios then showed that user password is not defined.
I saved the changes and started to laptop came out, and asked me again a password.
Now no entry (only press enter) or the old password works, still displays "wrong password".

    What I did wrong?

I am a COMPUTER technician, but never had a problem like this.
This problem is related to the Bios Phoenix or Toshiba? And how to solve the problem?

Can anyone help? Would be fine, girlfriend needs urgent laptop.

    Thanks for the comments!

  • Can't install NVIDIA GO5200 on Satellite P20 graphics driver

I uninstalled my NVIDIA driver original because I checked the www.nnidia.com they have the latest version of the driver, so I thought it would be nice.

But the new driver does not work on my Satellite P20 and now I can't install my old driver because Windows XP keeps coming out with the message "cannot INSTALL THIS NVIDIA GEFORCE GO5200 YEAR DEVICE ERROR OCCURRED DURING THE INSTALLATION OF THE DEVICE ACCESS IS DENIED."

I need help. I check Microsoft Help and support site, follow through a few examples, but none seems not to work.
My last option is to reformat and reinstall Windows XP.
    Someone has a gantry solution?

    Hello

It's no surprise! It of not possible to install the original graphic drivers of the graphics card manufacturing!
Toshiba use own graphics driver and it are a bit changed due to overheating problems.
The graphics driver Toshiba control the graphics card temperature level. If the temperature rises to the critical level driver decrease the performance of the card to avoid overheating. Drivers graphic originals don't feature such support!

That is why it s always advisable to use the graphics drivers Toshiba!

  • Vista on Satellite P20 - need graphic driver

Hi, I do not know if I have posted this question before on this forum, but I can't find it please bear with me.

I have a Satellite P20. The graphics card is a nvidia fx go 5200. I am now runnig Vista full Edition and you want to install the Vista nvidia driver. When I try it says I must go to Toshiba that their driver controls shortcut keys. There is no Vista driver for my card on the Web from Toshiba website. Is it possible that I can get the driver to install. I'm not bothered about shortcut keys that I never use.

    Hi mate,

because Vista is not supported on this machine you won´t get the official drivers for it. The only possibility would be to try the drivers from [Laptopvideo2Go | http://www.laptopvideo2go.com] and check if they are.
The graphics card is old, the machine is old and you need of enough RAM for Vista smoothly.

But I ask you: why Don t you stay with Windows XP? It s more reliable, it s faster and you have same official drivers for it...

Just think about some short on this subject, otherwise visit the suggested site and try your luck. :)

    Greetings

  • Satellite P20-304 stops unexpectedly

I have a laptop satellite P20 304 coming sometimes turns off without warning.
The screen goes black and the power is off.

This sometimes happens during a search, but alos is writing a letter. If not necessary a high workload for the laptop.

Opening vents are free etc. I guess maybe an overheating problem, but wonder if this causes this kind of stop procedere.
Also - there no poping blue screen or report failure upwards by re-start such as "the system will be re-stored after a major system crash ect.

No idea what it could be.

I installed Sandra Sisoft to monitor the temperature, but it only shows me no module to control the temperature,
respectively, that it does not work.

My warranty runs out in June, so I want to make sure that I can claim any defect prior to that.

    Thnaks for any input,

    Hello

It's not very easy to say why this laptop stops. It could be an overheating problem or a malfunction of the software. But I tend to overheat.
Well, the problem of overheating occurs due to her malfunctioning fans or malfunction of the equipment.
I assume that your warranty is valid, so I recommend you to check your laptop in service partner. Maybe, it can give you a good answer, why this problem occurs.
