How to disable certain USB ports in a machine of windows 7

On the 4 USB ports on my PC, I need to block all ports except one. The PC runs on windows 7 Professional - 64-bit. How can I do this by tweak Windows registry.

You can change the capacity of the ports in your BIOS settings, if you want to enable or disable. If this is the case, you will need to contact the manufacturer of your device to change.

Kind regards

Looking to change the settings in my BIOS I accidentally disable all USB ports. Now I can't use the keyboard and mouse. I want to know if there is a way to reset to the factory settings, the computer from the motherboard

    Hello

Before you try this, unplug the devices all attached, turn off the PC and remove the power plug.

There should be a jumper on the Board that you can use to remove the settings current CMOS, located just above the cmos battery - move the jumper to the clear position for 30 seconds and then bring him back - see the image at the link below.

  • USB ports do not work in Windows 7

Where my Windows 7 played very well a few weeks ago now, I can't access the USB ports. With a flashdrive in the port, Device Manager it says: 'a driver (service) for this device has been disabled.  Another driver can provide this functionality. (Code 32) ». I uninstalled all programs I had installed in the last 2 weeks so far. Currently, the two pilots showing with a flash drive in the USB port are: disk.sys and partmgr.sys. Could someone guide me how to activate the USB port, I can use a USB Flash drive or even external hard drive USB? Thank you

You are welcome. Glad to see that worked.

  • USB ports not working not on Windows but works on Ubuntu (fixed)

    Hello

I have dual boot Windows 8 and 13.04 Ubuntu on my laptop. For some reason, my USB ports doesn't work on Windows, but it still works on Ubuntu.

I ran a convenience store in the Panel and has detected that there is a problem with my USB (Code 43) ports, but he has not tried to fix or something. Given that my USB ports work fine on Ubuntu, I'm guessing it's a Windows driver issue? I was wondering what I should try to fix this (maybe uninstall drivers and reinstall? how?)
Would be very happy for any help I could get.
    See you soon!

    Hi Darius,.

This problem may occur because of the hardware device fails or if the device driver fails.

  • Disable the USB port

How do disable you the two USB ports on the front of a Dell Inspiron 3647? Or better yet, the password protect them?

The problem with the software approaches, either change the registry or by using an application like IntelliAdmin, is they disable all the USB storage for all users. If you won't be able to connect a USB or USB either. Note: If you use them, only the key and encrypted USB drives USB encrypted is HIPAA compliant.

You will also need a password protected administrator account and only this account has the right to change the registry or re - run IntelliAdmin to reactivate the USB access.

The Manual shows two connectors on the motherboard to the front USB ports. If you unplug the cables of these two connectors (be sure to store out of the way or cover with the CHATTERTON, so they can't communicate with the motherboard, case, or any other component), you can physically turn off the two front USB ports.

BUT, BUT... I do not know if that generates an error message when the PC starts, or if the PC starts even when these two cables are disconnected. May be worth a try...

My other thought is to put the PC in a cupboard locked (with adequate ventilation) and only personnel are the key.

Since it is a HIPAA question, you may not be the first to meet, then maybe you can find acceptable solutions to the HiPAAJournal.com or related resources.

  • How I fixed my USB ports not working not problem. Two ports left side previously does not... HP Dv7

So I do not know what is not "where it will honestly, but put there just to try to help someone else who has struggled with this as long as I did it...» I ended up having my two USB ports on the left side (turned out to be my 3.0 ports) working again when they recognize nothing. I could use the USB 2 on right 2.0 ports, but the transfer rate was terrible.

My answer on another question where someone had a similar problem... good luck!

    'Hi. '

Not sure if this will help, but I had the same problem, the two ports on the left did not work on my Dv7. All this time I thought that the USB on the right were my 3.0 ports so I thought that would be nice, but it's been over a year that I initially had this problem and made a bunch of maintenance of the system meant that I would look through it again. In any case, I went to the Device Manager through the computer management tool. I know that you can go straight to the Device Manager, but just give you exactly how I did it. You can search just to start computer management.

So I chose Device Manager in the menu on the left side and it looked like ordinary Device Manager. Went down to Universal Serial bus controllers... at this stage, I watched the action menu on the right and select more actions, opinions and you click Show hidden devices. After that I went through my USB controllers one by one as I had done many times before and checked them, tried the update of drivers, etc... Under the USB controllers Section, I noticed something like xHCI Host controller of compliance Test... I right click it and went into its details, I tried the driver updated and installed the new driver. 2 new USB controllers immediately arises: Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller and root hub.

Switched on a test drive from the right thumb to the left and the computer instantly recognized and installed the driver for the stick.

And that was all... hope it helps even if this is later. "

  • How can I Troubleshoot USB PORT of my laptop (Acer Aspire E1-421)

Since I installed my Windows 7 Ultimate 36 bit fresh after a big Crash and BSOD and frost took place

My laptop has often experience problems...

It has been 2 months since my OS re-installing

I don't know why this is happening...

My USB Ports, one is USB 2 (blue) and the other 2 is USB 1 (Silver)

Cannot read any USB key, connectors or no matter what USB devices connected

Well maybe im that I'm wrong about the word 'impossible to read.

because when I PLUG it, it still appears on device and printers,

    and Device Manager...

Yes, it was red by Ports but is not recognizing that I think...

One thing I think is one of the problem is...

As you can see I can not this devices/drivers because when I do it shows...

Ive also tried to use the Scan for hardware changes, but that's what always happens...

    And it's always...

I appreciate really all help and step by step answers someone will answer.

    Thank you very much...

Almost certainly yes a reload will sort it but next time avoid the utility 'finder pilot', they are a pain because too often they go wrong and I speak from personal experience.

Stick with drivers Acer, there is no chipset graphics drivers followed by Audio 1 and restart, then next LAN. Let the system do its updates and check the Device Manager to each step.

The SMBus is a little strange because it's undoubtedly part of the chipset, but Acer don't list any as being necessary.

  • How to fix my usb ports? Not correctly recognize the iPod and other devices of storage correctly.

I had problems with getting my iPod classic 6th generation to be recognized by my computer windows 7.  It works very well but all of a sudden stopped working.  When I connect the iPod, it says on the product than its 'connected' and is in charge, but does not appear on "my computer" or on iTunes.  Now, I supposed that it was a problem with my apple product, but after putting in the store and plug both Mac and PCs, this worked fine, its clear that it is actually a problem with my specific PC.
All software are up to date and I tried stop and start the unit. (Control Panel > administrative tools > services > device mobile apple).  The PC also recognizes the iPod randomly once in a while and I managed to restore the iPod to factory settings to ensure that there is no problem with the device itself.

As stated earlier that the iPod is not visible in 'my computer', but when "devices and printers", there are two elements relating to the iPod, appearing almost as if it's two separate devices. the first is "apple ipod usb device" on the devices section and "Apple mobile device USB driver" in the section not specified.  When I click the first device it freezes the computer for awhile.
I tried to move the ipod to different USB ports that make no difference.  However, when I put in a pen memory USB (TDK 4 GB), it initially also put it in unspecified, but with a yellow warning down logo on the left and when I moved my wireless usb key for my keyboard, it didn't work initially.  These two seem to have resolved themselves in Device Manager...

In my view, there is a problem with my usb ports grateful drivers. Any idea what I need to do?
