  Go to where you have configured the static IP addresses for your network adapters.  Leave the "default gateway" blank for your local file sharing adapter and insert a valid default gateway for your wifi Internet adapter.  Of course, this will limit your adapter in a single subnet - which should be OK for use at home or small office to share local files.

  This should work as long as the two physical subnets have two different subnet numbers. In general, this means that the first three digits of the IP address of the adapter can not be the same on both adapters - if they are, then you need to make one of the subnets.   I opened my XP, run these commands via cmd:

  netsh winsock reset
  Restart the computer and then change my connection of cable wireless lan then back to wireless again.

  If you can't do this in "tools > Options > Applications" then you can rename (or delete) the file mimeTypes.rdf in the profile folder of Firefox to reset all the actions file.

  I used to have an old netgear router that allowed me to file sharing between computers quite freely, but slowly. so I've updated now, I have much more quick netgear WNR3500 filled with firewalls. However the use of this seems to block the visibility of my etherneted xp machine. which means that when I open the computers folder in network in a new vista machine, it shows everything but the xp machine. I have tried disabling firewalls, routers and disabling the ethernet on the xp machine and using a card wireless instead, but it became not yet visible.the router itself responds to the pings and other computers connected wirelessly are but the xp machine won't. I think it's a problem with one of the multiple firewalls, this computer has collected over the years. could someone tell me please how to clear data from the previous network so that I can start a new one. and the ports to open.

  I understand what you're asking, and the answer is no. It's just not possible that the way things are right now. There are several ways to get your desktop on your TV, but unfortunately wifi isn't one of them.  Your best bet would be to just connect your laptop to your TV with vga or hdmi, and then use a wireless keyboard and mouse.
