How to remove an update that will not download

Every night my computer tries to download KB3097966 and fails. I discovered that the error code 80070490 is involved. Can someone advise please how can I fix this or how to remove this download from my system

Hi Bruce,.

Thanks for posting your query on the Microsoft Community.

According to the description you posted in your message seems that you can not install updates, this problem may occur if one or more of the following conditions are met:

  1. The Windows Update database is damaged.
  2. Antivirus software is configured to scan the folder % Windir%\SoftwareDistribution.
  3. Service (BITS) Background Intelligent Transfer Service does not receive a content link header.
  4. A required system file is incorrectly registered.

If it helps, try the methods and check them off below.

  • Updates Windows will not download.

I'm loading to the top of page update on my Windows 7 Ultimate 64 x system and it shows that I have updated security to install windows. I had about 11, but some of them downloaded and installed correctly as Security Essentials definitions etc, however; the security updates are not download. It showed 0% about 3 days now.

Is this a problem with the microsoft Server? I tried to download them directly from the site, but I had the same problem there. They will not download and install. I don't know how this has become a problem so I can't give the last update, I installed before that happens, but I can say that it's happened with other updates. Only once.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Updates, I am trying to download are:

Security Update for Windows 7 x 64 systems

    (KB981332)

    (KB980232)

    (KB979683)

    (KB979309)

    (KB978601)

Help for these updates would be very welcomed here.

    Regards and thanks in advance.

    System File Checker

  • CAN I get rid of the updates that are show; pping in Vista. I see in Windows 7 which is can remove old updates that are not needed. Can I do this with Vista?

I am able to remove the old window of Dates in Windows 7 that overlap, when you go on the cleaning disc and touch clean system files, then the update windows clean up rises.  Then, you are able to remove the old of the dates that are no longer needed. This saves space.  Can I do this with Windows Vista?  If so, how?

    Hello

This is the information from Microsoft about this:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2852386/en-us

"Cleaning Windows Update option is available only when the Disk Cleanup Wizard detects the updates of Windows you don't need on the computer."

This is only for Windows 7 and above.

Loy Vista doesn't have this option of cleaning disc for Windows Updates and in all probability that Microsoft will not implement what Vista is now in Extended Support.

    _____________________________________________

Here's how to clean your Vista hard disk:

This free program allows you to see what is taking place.

    http://www.Jam-software.com/treesize_free/

By default system restore also includes 15% of the capacity of your hard disk under Vista space.

You can change the size of it:

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/76227-system-restore-disk-space.html

You can clean your hard drive using these two methods.

    "Delete files using Disk Cleanup"

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/delete-files-using-disk-cleanup

    Using the free CCleaner program:

    http://www.Piriform.com/CCleaner

In NO case use the registry cleaning Option in CCleaner

Download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

    http://www.Malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free

And Norton Backup, if you are using Norton, can do strange things with filling of hard drive space.

    See you soon.

    I tried following https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/942968

The GlobalInstallOrder.xml both the install.wim from the disk image of Windows Web Server 2008 x 86 and for KB955430 files under %winroot%/winsms both starting.

Any ideas on how to determine what is the cause, updates do not?

In addition, I have a lot of lines like these:

    2016-01-07 17:03:02, info CBS Plan: jump package since its start State and the target State are both missing for the package: Package_for_KB2654428_client ~ 31bf3856ad364e35 ~ x 86 ~ ~ 6.0.1.0, current: 0, pending:-16, start: 0, there is: 0, oriented: 0, limit: 4

  • XP and still receive the updates that will not be powered off (except by pressing the key stop for 10secs) computer.

Started to have a problem with the computer, download the updates, but seems never to end.  Computer can be left running all night, and he said again it is the download of updates and should not be extinguished.  It can be turned off only by pressing the power button on the computer for about 10 seconds, or just unplug the computer.  There is clearly a problem here, but do not know how to solve.  Any help out there?, thanks in anticipation. NOTE: Before you perform an upgrade in-place, you must be prepared for the worst scenarios that led to your existing data on your computer being deleted. These data include data personal, settings, information about the hardware and software drivers. In case of a worst case scenario, you may have to reinstall all the programs. Make sure that you back up personal data to disks or other external storage devices before performing an upgrade on the spot.
