HowTo? convert virtual machines Hyper-V in ESX 4.0

Hi, maybe posted a million times BUT:

I have yet to convert a virtual Hyper-V for ESX 4 computer.

Guests (W2K3, W2K8, W2K8R2)

I tried

-WinImage

-Starwind

-MS VMM

-Vmware converter coldclone

-Vmware converter online

and again: If a VMDK of OS in ESX VM file does not start a VDISK or even knows that there is a file system.

-What did I do wrong?

Thank you very much...

Stefan

I'm doing an exact copy of a virtual (including snapshots) computer on an ESX Server 2. I thought that the user interface can use the vcbMounter command, but it does allow me to bring over all the snapshots. I tried a copy directly the files but I couldn't find a way to open the virtual machine in the 2nd ESX Server. Is it possible to copy an instant set VM and it is or I have to copy the entire ESX Server?

    Hello

I'm looking for the method step by step for the migration of virtual machines to new host ESX Migration both cold and hot.

Need prerequisites, the methods available for migrate VMWARE virtual has new host ESX (in the new data center) with minimum downtime.

It will be great if you can enumerate the markets or redirect me to documentation that I can use to create detailed steps as the target host compatibility check on VMs and so on.

  • What is the best way to backup of virtual machines on a standalone ESX with the data store local

    Hello

I want to save the virtual machines on a host ESX autonomous. and all of these virtual machines is the local data store.  What is the best way to save these virtual machines in this situation?

And probably we don't provision VTL on the local data center, so it is possible to use VCB to backup? And VCB is a good choice compared to the traditional method that installs the backup client in each virtual machine?   Because I think that in this situation with the data store local, it cannot not reduced the load on ESX hosts and network overhead can be avoided.

    Thank you!

    > 1. VCB usable remote tape library? I mean it's not local library and uses the tape library to another network data center.

VCB is completely unrelated to the tape library, it is a framework, not a backup solution. If your standard backup software can work with the remote tape library you can try it to ungrateful with VCB.

    > 2. what the difference bwteen hot - added NBD and modes if there is that an ESX host with store data local and want to use a virtual machine like VCB proxy? I think that they are the same: the VCB proxy read data through the I/O of the ESX host stack in this situation.

NBD works on network and the backup traffic goes through the service console connection. Hot add uses special machine for assistance to connect vmdk to and uses of e/s disk stack instead of e/s network.

  • I need to run a virtual machine, hyper v on my windows machine 8 with workstation 10

I know that I can run a virtual machine in hyper v in v hyper customer, my question is if I turn the functionality hyper v on this will affect my 10 workstation install?

As far as I know, that you can no longer start the vmx86 kernel driver once the HyperV role is activated.
In previous HyperV versions that you could use a special startup parameter to disable the HyperV role for the next boot - so that you can run Workstation - but I don't know if it still works.

So to summarize: HyperV and workstation cannot co-exist and be used one after the other - at the very least a reboot is required

  • Newly converted Virtual Machine Windows 2003 contains no hard drive

I'm looking on the advice of this problem.

I used vConverter 4.0 to transform the four physical servers to virtual machines.  Two of my attempts ended in failure.  One was a standard Server Windows 2000 running as a web server. He just cut to 3% or 4%. Let this old trash server at the moment.

The second is a Windows 2003 Web Edition Server.  The P2V process actually all the way!   But I can't start. I discovered that the physical server C drive was not there?  When you change the properties I see only one hard drive (it would have taken to 10 GB and 20 GB) it seemed to me that if the configuration in the setup of P2V has been misinterpreted?...

Initially, I made it clear that the 51 GB drive C and 74 GB - D drive should become a 10 (only use 4.8) and a 20 GB (only 11.5 GB used).  Instead, I found myself with a huge 72GO disk in the virtual machine

In this fourth attempt, trying now not to tamper with disk sizes and rely solely on provisioning.  And there is room for the 51 + 74 GB of disks on the ESXi host expected they exploit the full potential.

But it really intrigues me I get a different result that I opted for in the configuration of the P2V.

    No explanation?

The server in question is from the disks IDE and a legacy mainboard with an old Pentium 4 processor - not really a server.  On the other hand I have converted two physical successfully servers, just until I came across this problem. It was 12 to 14 years old Compaq DL380 G1 servers with SCSI disks.

I think part of the problem is that you cannot change the type of IDE SCSI controller (it's in step 3). You can try the following steps, but if it was me I would just start the conversion, resizing disks you want and ensure are using a SCSI controller

  • convert virtual machine with connected users

    Hello world

Is is 'OK' to convert a small server terminal server on a virtual machine, while users are connected?

It does not, as I have done this several times, but wanted to know for sure... what may be the consequences.

I have more than one terminal Server and I want to keep a virtual copy, just in case tha hardware version breaks, so, I can get users upwards and while work on the virtual version while the equipment is repaired.

    Thank you!!

    Peter

P2V server will you get at first, then slowly increase on the farm of virtual machines that provide services Terminal Server.   You may want to decommission the p2v version if problems occur.

  • Restore the virtual machine to the new ESX box

    Hello

    I'm new on this.

I recived a set of virtual machines to another place and I want to restore to the newly created ESX. I followed the steps below to restore.

    Recived files:

    XX_YY. NVRAM

    XX_YY.VMDK

    XX_YY.vmsd

    XX_YY.vmtx

    XX_YY - flat hard

After I copy all the files above using WinSCP, I could find the "XX_YY.vmdk" is copied to the XX_YY.vmdk.flatfile' which I have one copy of another on the server with the old name using the command #cp XX_YY.vmdk.flatfile XX_YY.vmdk?

I copied all of the above files using winscp client.

Open the VI client and browse the storage

right click on the "XX_YY.vmtx" and add to the inventory

Add to the popup to open inventory and asks me to enter the name of the template and that I have provided.

In the next window, I click on finsih, I see the error: "the operation is not supported on the object.

Any Document that would tell me more info on how to restore / import VM in my newly created ESX box?

    Thanks in advance

    Krishna

The files are in the format of model already if not the following.

Simply import the vmdk into ESX using "vmkfstools", then search for the data store, right-click on the vmtx file and select Add to the inventory. Also, you can simply rename the vmtx to vmx file.

  • Hyperthreading and Intel VT for ESX virtual machine

    Hello

I installed ESXi4.1 in VMware workstation as a virtual machine. My physical CPU on my workstation box is Intel Core i7 730 with HT enabled with 4GB DD3 1333 MHZ RAM. However, when I try to create a Server 2003 64-bit VM inside this ESX host. and try to turn it on, it says, "THIS HOST is not taken in CHARGE VT". Above this showed hyperthreading is inactive.

    "I tried:

    1. in editing parameters of the ESX VM in my computer, I put the option for Intel-VT, AMD - V - & gt; NO GO

    2. Add monitor_control.vt32 = 'TRUE', monitor.virtual_exec = 'material' in the vmx file - & gt; NO GO

Only 32-bit clients can be installed to run as virtual machines nested within an ESX host. These virtual machines can only be configured to use binary translation.

  • Students who need assistance for a virtual machine to run on hyper-v inside vmware workstation 12

OK sorry first time here. I am currently a student and I have windows running R2 server 2008 as a Workstation VM. I activated the Hyper-v technology and got of no problem, the question I meet is that when I go to start a virtual machine, hyper v, I get the error failed to initialize. Initially, I had a mistake before, who told me he failed because he would not score, I think I've fixed this error by changing the. VMX file. I need to be able to start these machines virtual hyper-v because I am doing some laboratories for a class. Ideas, suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to read. I have attached a few screenshots of the error.

Your processor is a Haswell, that supports AVX.  This problem occurs because Windows Server 2008 R2 does not support the AVX feature. See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2517374 for a fix or a workaround.

I'm trying to get a list of the virtual machines running on an ESX host specific, but also are located in a specific folder.

I think it must be something like that below, but for now without success:

    Get-vmhost $esx_hostname | Get-vm-location (get-record $folder_name( )
giving the error message: Get - VM: the input object cannot be bound to all the settings for the command EIThim because

VMHost and folder use the Get-VM-setting position. You must select either using the Where-Object cmdlet filter. For example:

    Get-VMHost $esx_hostname |
    Get-VM |
    Where-Object {$_.Folder.Name -eq $folder_name}

The log file looks good now.  However, it seems that ESX 4.0 is older than I remembered.  Please, add the following line to your ESX VM configuration file and try again:

  • Do we not have to change the settings for the virtual machine once moved from 2.5 ESX to vSphere 4.1?

    Hi guys,.

I just wanted to check, once the virtual machines are migrated from ESX 2.5, 2.5 Vcenter to ESX 4.1, Vcenter 4.1 of the NFS datastore on the iSCSI data store.

Do I have to make changes to the vm settings?

To use the features to enhance available with ESX 4.1 what I need to change the virtual disk to logical Bus to LSI logic? What is recommended or is not serious?

It will be very useful for me to know if there is any need for changes to be made other than on the virtual machine upgrade vmware tools.

    Thank you

You try to run ESX 2.5 VM on ESX4.1, if that's the case then ESX 2.5 VM are not supported on ESX 4.1
