Hey @aprildc,

Welcome to the Forum from HP Support.

I see that you have a problem with printing from the PC using your HP Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one printer. I want to help you with this. I have some suggestions that might help.

I recommend you try the following steps:

Remove the temporary PC files:

  • Press the Windows key + r
  • Type %temp%, and then press enter
  • Press Ctrl + a to select all files
  • Press Delete
  • Note that some files do not delete - do not worry, this is normal. Simply click ignore that you're prompted.
  • Empty your trash at the end.

Run the HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Click here to install and run the printing and scanning doctor. This utility is designed to detect and automatically fix common printer setup problems.

If you still experience the guest fax after these steps I suggest you uninstall the printer and redo your printer setup.

Uninstall your printer

  • Press the Windows key + r
  • Type of control panel and press enter
  • Click on programs and features
  • Select the driver for your printer from the list, and then click on uninstall
  • Click here to reinstall your printer.

Please let me know the result of your troubleshooting by responding to this post. If I helped you to solve the problem and that you liked this post, feel free to express your thanks by clicking the "Thumbs Up" icon below by clicking on "accept as Solution" (this will help others find the solution).

  • My j3680 solution Center has stopped working. I can print and fax manually. I downloaded the full

    My j3680 solution Center has stopped working. I am able to print and fax manually but can't scan. My system is windows 7.

    The 3680 is an officejet all-in-one.

    Hi mahroch,

    The first thing to do to solve this problem would be to run printing HP and doctor Scan. It is a quick and simple tool that diagnoses and solves many problems of printing, scanning and connectivity. See the following link for more information on downloading, installing and running this tool:

    HP OFficejet Pro L7680 turns off and won't turn back on.

    Hello untech,.

    I see it's been a while since you have posted with us on the HP Forums.  Please, let me take a moment to say "Welcome Back".

    I see that you have a problem with the printer l ' auto turn off and not turning it back on.

    You happen to have the printer power cable connected to a power strip/bar?  If so, please try to connect the printers power cable directly to a wall outlet.  Here is a document that explains the problems when connected to an uninterruptible power supply/Strip/surge protector power.

    The printer in the document is a LaserJet printer but this document is intended for HP products in general and only use the LaserJet printers for example.

    I'll also include a document indicating when the HP printer will not be running or to respond when the power button is pressed.

    If by chance the problem is not resolved after you complete the steps described, then I would say call the HP Technical Support to see all the other possibilities for you. If you call in North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, please click here: click here.

    Please do not hesitate to write me again if you have any other questions.

    I wish you a great Monday!

    See you soon,.

  • My printer icon disappeared from the printer and fax under xp home page

    Hello

    For you help I would be grateful if you could answer the following questions:

    (1) what is the serial number and model of the printer?

    (2) was there any software or hardware changes made on the computer before this problem?

    This problem occurs because the print spooler service is damaged.

    I suggest you follow the steps from the link below and check if it helps;

    You experience problems printing, the printer icons display and adding printers, the print spooler service does not work correctly and you receive error messages related to printing on a Windows XP computer.

  • Why can't I just print and fax wireless?

    I tried everything and still can't print and fax wireless

    Hello

    I have tried everything and you don't find what your printer, your PC/laptop and his BONES!

    Kind regards.

  • HP Laserjet P1102w does not appear in the list print and fax OS 10.5.8

    Receive a HP Laserjet 1102w and tried to install it on Mac OS 10.5.8.  I downloaded and ran the HP drivers but when I go to add the printer in system preferences/printers and faxes in the list of available printers is empty.  I tried several routines suggested by a search on the web about the problem without result.

    Everyone out there solved this problem?

    Thank you for your attention.  I found the solution.  See below.

    The printer is connected by USB and I also tried to get the wireless connection.  I had intermittent progress on both fronts, but could not make a successful installation of USB connection or wireless connection.  The printer would "disappear" the list of available printers (using the '+' to add a printer, OS 10.6.8) or does not meet the installation commands.  And I could not connect the printer wireless to my network of 'take'

    Print the configuration page was of no use.  If the printer is unable to connect to the wireless network, it reports the IP address of the printer such as 0.0.0.0.

    TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM

    (clicking + under "Print and Fax" printer is not displayed or the name of the printer is removed)

    (1) replace the USB - the original was sensitive to cut;

    (2) give up the wireless - to - wireless set up methods - no amount of factory reset does not erase block of connection of mystery;

    (3) set up the connection through a USB cable wireless (good);

    (3) to switch the browser used to display the configuration page from the printer in Firefox (for Mac OS 10.6.8 34.0.5) for Safari

    (4) use security mode WPA (WEP not as suggested by HP help files).

    The main troublemaker was the bad USB cable.  Go to put wireless in place assume that the printer can connect to the network. As already mentioned, the WiFi was not working.  Network blue light would not come into balance.  A transmission option was blocking handshaking between the printer and my wireless router.  I tried unsuccessfully recommended factory reset methods.

    I needed a good USB connection to access the printer configuration options.

    Don't know which increased with Firefox - a plugin bad or something?  It would be not just connect them to the printer via IP addressing.  Safari worked fine.  (The printer is now successfully Setup that Firefox has decided to work too.)

    THE SOLUTION IS:

    (1) connect the printer and Mac via a cable (good);

    (1) use Safari to go to the printer setup functions (through the system preferences/print & / fax options & supplies show printer web page);

    (2) follow the recommended configuration options (HP support for Laserjet P1102w, OS 10.6, via a USB cable to connect wireless);

    (3) select the appropriate wireless in the list;

    (4) restore WPA security mode; and

    (5) to give the printer the correct wireless network password.

    Thank you and the forum, for your help.

  • HP Officejet 6500 has more all -: want to print, get fax screen etc.

    I am trying to print a document, shows data, fax sending fax etc how do I cut the portion of the printer fax?

    @dman51

    Assuming that the full feature software is installed, the following may be enough to solve:

    Set as the default printer

    I don't know how 'disable' the fax software - if you do not set the parameters, fax is essentially disabled the fax program does nothing - useful or harmful.  You need a landline connected to use fax - leave the disconnected landline and fax is essentially disabled.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a: HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a - Print when Fax is not saved

    Can I do so a fax is printed when it is not registered?

    I know that I can put to print and save every time, but I trust HP digital fax to save paper.

    If a fax is not registered, either because of a network error, or if the computer that logs usually in is cut off, can just fax be printed?

    @MrMeow, it's nice to meet you.

    I think I found something that can help your fax dilemma.

    This information has been in the User Guide for the Officejet Pro 8600 e-all-in-one - N911a; PG 69.

    Set up backup fax

    According to your needs best and security, you can configure the printer to store all faxes it receives, only faxes it receives while the printer is in an error condition, or none of the faxes it receives.

    The following fax backup modes are available:

    On >  The default setting. When backup fax is enabled, the printer stores all faxes received in memory. This allows you to reprint up to eight more recently printed faxes if they are always saved in the memory.

    NOTE: When the memory of the printer is low, it replaces faxes print, older because it receives new faxes. If the memory is full of unprinted faxes, printer stop to answer incoming fax calls.

    NOTE: If you receive a fax that is too large, as a very detailed color photo, it cannot be stored in memory due to limitations of memory.

    Error only > Causes the printer to store faxes in memory only if there is an error condition that prevents the printer to print the faxes (for example, if the printer is out of paper). The printer continues to store incoming faxes, as long as the memory is available. (If the memory is full, the printer stops responding to incoming fax calls). When the error condition is resolved, the faxes stored in memory automatically, print and then they are deleted from the memory.

    Off >  Faxes are never stored in memory. For example, you might want to disable fax backup for security reasons. If an error condition occurs which prevents the printer to print (for example, tracks paper printer), the printer stops responding to incoming fax calls.

    NOTE: If the backup fax is turned on and you turn the printer off, all faxes stored in memory are deleted, including any unprinted faxes that you might receive while the printer was in an error condition. You must contact the senders asking them to return the unprinted faxes. To get a list of faxes that you have received, print the Fax log. The Fax journal is not removed when the printer is off.

    To set backup fax from the printer control panel

    1 tap (right arrow) and select Setup.

    2. press Fax Setup, and then click Advanced fax setup.

    3. press on the backup Fax reception.

    4. press on , error, or out of service.

    Reprint of faxes received from memory

    If you set backup fax mode to On, received faxes are stored in memory, whether the printer has an error condition or not.

    NOTE: After that the memory is full, the oldest faxes, prints are replaced as new faxes are received. If all stored faxes are not printed, the printer does not receive fax calls until you print or erase memory faxes. You can also delete the faxes in memory for purposes of confidentiality or security.

    According to the sizes of the faxes in memory, you can reprint up to eight more recently printed faxes, if they are still in memory. For example, you will need to re - print your faxes if you have lost the copy of your last draw.

    To reprint the faxes in memory from the printer control panel

    1. make sure you have loaded paper in the main tray.

    2 tap (right arrow) and select Setup.

    3. touch Tools , or Faxand then select reprint faxes in memory. The faxes are printed in reverse order, where they were received with the most recently received fax printed first, and so on.

    4. If you want to stop reprinting the faxes in memory, press the Cancel button.

    Please let me know if these steps solved your problem, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

    I look forward to hear from you!

    Thank you

  • Officejet 5610 starts slow printing and button / stop flashes

    This just started happening.  A document (no matter what I print) will begin to print, get the first two lines printed and then take incredibly slow.  Meanwhile, the power LED flashes and the message says "print...". "If I restart my computer and as you turn the printer power on and off, it will correct itself.  Anyone else have this or know what to do?  Thank you

    Looks like the printer can be connected to a surge protector and the surge protector can not provide the stream of electricity the printer needs since it starts then slows down and the power LED flashes.

    The printer is connected to a surge protector?  If so, plug it directly into a wall socket.  If it's related to the surge, the question shouldn't be present.

    Let me know what happens.

  • OfficeJet 6500 e710n-z: scan and Fax no longer works

    Hello

    After working fine for a couple of years, scanner and fax on my Officejet 6500 functions do not work.  The print function is fine.

    Change that recent computer-wise is that I am switched to a Macbook Air (and upgraded to OS Mavericks) Macbook Pro, but all that was on my previous Mac was transferred to my Air of my LaCie support.

    When I try to scan a document, the preview function works fine but when I click on Scan, a small message says "Made scan of selected areas" but no scan is actually performed.

    When I try to send a fax, I can hear the tone on my phone line and the phone rings but the fax does not pick up.  I tried with several known fax numbers and it's always the same.  I almost never receive faxes so I can't say whether or not the receiver function works.

    Can someone advise?

    Thank you very much!

    Hi Super Dave,

    I was able to scan with the Apple Preview (even if Apple Image Capture did not work) so thank you so much for this!

    Any suggestion as to the fax?

    Thanks again!

    Can I TEMPORARILY disable or Turn - off Match without opt-out, so that the matching process and upload does not occur until I want what he and re-enable/turn it on again?

    Hello

    Yes, but why do you want to disable iTunes game? When you subscribe to Match iTunes, your library is analyzed to determine what can be matched or must be downloaded. When the scan is complete, your library will be updated automatically when you add new tracks or edit metadata.

    Hello cezorn,

    Welcome to the HP Forums.

    When you said that the printer is 'Off Line', do you mean that the printer does not connect to the computer or that the printer feeds NOT on at all?

    Whatever it is, please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a bar/power strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer for example, but it is intended for HP products in general. Please click the link which explains the problems when connected to an uninterruptible power supply/Strip/surge protector power.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus: printing and scanning option is not presented when one clicks on destop icon for HP printer

    When I click on the HP printer on the desktop icon, it does not open the usual window for all functions of the printer.  I just get a notification asking if I want to leave the program to make changes to my pc.  Also, when I click on the option of printing a pdf document, the print window that opens only allows me to "Save" the document not printi TI (the 'save' button is substituted for the 'print' button).  Can I save the document and print then after I opened from my windowssaved file, if the printer is working and will analyze in the screen of the printer associated with the.  This is done via the wireless connection, so it works.

    Hello

    Try following the steps listed below and check if it can help, the steps for Windows 8 is also applicable for Windows 10:

    http://support.HP.com/in-en/document/c03640384

    If this does not help, try following the "printer software installation & screen opens instead of HP printer Assistant" section below:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/product/HP-OfficeJet-4630-e-all-in-one-printer-series/5305049/model/5305050/document/c04714314/

    About the "print" button, I guess that's not related wit the real software problem:

    Google chrome opens the print dialog box, and then press the button change.
    Select your printer from the list instead of the default save as PDF option and try to print again.
