  Black ink ran out of my deskjet 5740. I stopped by a store to buy a replacement. The associate gave me 96 black. On the side of the box it says it is compatible with the Deskjet5740.

  The Officejet 5740 e - all - in - one using the 62 (or 62xl) cartridges.  There is a Deskjet 5740 that uses the older HP 96 cartridges.  (There is also an Officejet J5740 that uses different cartridges.)

  You will need to replace the cartridge, the HP 96 is not compatible with your Officejet 5740.  I suggest you return the cartridge to your dealer or Contact HP for a replacement.

• Unable to select/change a printing quality on Deskjet 5740

  Recently, I lost my ability to print on a DJ 5740 after completing a boot on a Mac G5 iMac, running Mac OS X 10.4.11.  Thinking that somehow secure boot affected/deleted the driver of 5740 DJ, I rebooted the 5740 Driver from the HP website.  After the Driver Install finished, I noticed that the PaperType/quality was not registered iunder the'Copies & Pages drop-down list to select the print quality (e.g. Normal, quick project, etc.).  After reading the Readme Doc DJ 5740, it describes how to get the print quality on the print screen.  The file Readme Doc suggested to disable all functions of picture on the layout, but I have been unable to locate any reference to photographic reports.  Could you please provide a procedure step by step as t what should I look for to turn off the features?

  I saw your post not being able to print with your Deskjet 5740. I would recommend to reset the system to see if this helps you bring the print feature.

  This command resets all of the printing system to its default configuration.

  My HP Deskjet 5740 printer does not recognize my new HP Photocartridge 348. It is brand new, not expired, official but I only get black prints. I can't find anything useful on the HP support site. The printer is not set to only print in black.

  The cartridge goes in the slot for cartridges of blacks, there is no colourcartridge in the other location at this time. So either he needs a color cartridge to work together (but how to know I'm not only to print my photos with the colourcartridge and using the photocartridge as a black cartridge cheap?) or the printer believes that the photocartridge is just one other black ink cartridge.

  The Photo cartridge has not all the colors, Photo black, cyan and light magenta.  It is used in conjunction with the color cartridge (which feeds the cyan, magenta and yellow) for photo printing.

  If you want to print in color, you will need a color cartridge.  The color cartridge can print in black (approximately) by itself, but the photo or black print cartridge cannot print without the color cartridge color.

  I had this printer works on XP for years.

  I bought a new PC with Windows 8.1, she works there.

  I can install on XP and share with 8.1 but what is back-asswards, 8.1 victory will be my main PC.

  I installed it on 8.1 and want to share it with the XP machine.

  When I try to add the printer on XP, I get a message:

  The server does not have the right set of HP5700 installed.

  I downloaded and installed 8.1 64 bit, OK.

  Cannot use install drive years ago.

  I think I need to install 32-bit drivers on Win 8.1 to share with XP.

  I'm lost, I can't find anything online, sites just trying to install all kinds of garbage.

  Y at - it installation of HP that will allow me to share 8.2 64-bit XP 32 bit?

  I noticed your post want to share your 5740 Deskjet from your Windows 8.1 on your XP machine. That you found in your search, this does simply not work. There are no drivers available for this model of printer and Windows 8.1 (click here). The old disks will not work because they are not compatible with Windows 8.1.

  You will most likely stick to the "Countdown to' path unless you look in the upgrade of your printer.

• DeskJet 3522 repair without installation disk

  My printer is not available for use in a network or even if it is directly connected to the computer of longerf vi a USB.  I had this problem when I originally installed the printer, but was able to download a driver/software and it solved the problem.

  I tried to get the driver again, but there is an error and when I try to repair the installation my computer wants the installation disc, I can not find.

  How can I get my all-in-one works again?

  The computer is still saying that, due to installationerrors it won't uninstall the printer without the installation disc and insert disc now.

  I found a way around the printer does not, however.

  When I go to print a file instead of select 3522 HP from the list of available printers, I feel HP Network rather select in the list and which seems to be sending information to the printer.

• HP Officejet 5740 e-all-in-one: HP Deskjet 5740 fax on home WiFi network

  I am currently sending faxes using a telephone line (Verizon FIOS). HP has an option or that they are planning to put in place an option to send a FAX using my WiFi line. I know that this is not implemented by any other manufacture of PC printers and most services' require a monthly fee and/or a land line. I am not opposed to a monthly fee since I pay Verizon for my phone line each month. So, is there a way for HP to send a FAX to a telephone number and receive a FAX using my PC (and HP software) both on the internet.

  This would save me a lot of money each month, since the amount of FAXES I sent since I bought my current printer is 59 and sent is 52. If I send and receive a FAX 100's a year that would be a lot.

  I know that software exist to create a FAX and receive FAX included in Microsoft operating systems (Norton was a years ago which was a stand-alone application). But it seems that the problem is transmitting via the Internet to a phone number.

  Smart phones can send information (text messages) to a phone number using only the internet, so I think that it is not difficult to provide functionality. HP currently allows you to send printing by internet on your personal printer. What is the difference with sending a FAX to a printer?

  Security issues with Fax require the document printed only and not saved in an editable format. PDF files already that.

  What am I missing I, except a reluctance on the part of the printer manufactures enter this company or the resistance of the telephone companies for ground transportation?

  FAX lines must use the analog telephone lines.  It's their specification.  The other option you have is eFax to send and receive faxes.

  That's very bad... seems to be a problem of type chickens and eggs... I changed the permissions to prohibit all access to the printer.   Account that includes me, apparently without realizing.   I cannot now access the printer, or change the settings for return authorization.   Because I stopped everyone to make changes...

  He will not let me delete my system printer either (I thought that if I deleted and reinstalled it can reset the permissions).

  There must be a way to change it back so I can use the printer.   Help!

  There are a growing number of messages in this forum and elsewhere in the internet with the steps to do a reset on different printers.  Reset to will sometimes fix problems, so resetting is not the issue.

  A few resets require you to enter key combinations to open special menus on your printer that you were supposed to never access.  These special menus are used by developers and staff support for debugging of problems, but they are not intended for inexperienced users and can have unexpected results.  A wrong button push and you might no longer have a printer, but rather an expensive paper weight.  On top of that, if you happen to the 'brick' the printer in this way, it is considered as customer induced damage and voids the warranty automatically. These resets are only intended to be distributed and used as a last resort and under the direct instruction of a representative of the HP technical support. They should not be made lightly!

• DeskJet 5740 does not print

  This printer has worked flawlessly for the past six years. All of a sudden, he just stopped printing. No degradation of quality. Just a day, it was beautiful, and the next day, zip.   If the printer has been disconnected from power before that the cartridges were parked correctly, they could have clogged print heads.  Try to gently absorb printheads on a damp cloth.  two strong ink black to black, the color should be strong tasks of cyan, magenta and yellow.  If there are only small tasks then try up to three cycles of cleaning the box tool.

  can you please tell us what model you have and that is running OS (OS recovery Toshiba or your complete installation of MS)?

  How do you connect printer (USB or LTP1)?

  Also can you check your USB drivers in Device Manager?

• Impossible to uninstall the printer using revo uninstaller (HP technical support also unable)

  I'm unable to uninstall an old printer, a HP Deskjet 5740, of my HP Pavilion laptop running on Windows XP. I tried the following:

  • To add/remove programs: the initializes to uninstall but I get «Fatal error during installation»
  • In the start menu > all programs > HP > 5700 > uninstall software
  • HP technical support used a Revo Unistaller and this also failed. They said it was a matter of microsoft.

  Note: the 5740 does not appear in the start menu > printers & faxes

  Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

  I suggest trying to remove the printing mode safe software:

  If this does not work, you can temporarily disable your security while in Mode safe mode software and try uninstalling again.

  You must make sure that the print program is not running when you do this.
