HP Envy 17-j180ea: upgrading HP Envy 17 Leap Motion NB PC Windows OS 8.1 to solid state

A few Questions before you jump in and buy a Solid State.
One time, I tried to use a Solid State drive as my main drive. But because the SSD has been only 128 GB, it wouldn't allow it, becuse of the Normal 1 TB drive. The opinion at the time was that it uses capcity disc above as primary drive.  Anyway, the 128 GB SSD worked ok as a second drive.  This is why I need advice. I want to replace my HD State with a 960 GB of SanDisk Ultra II SATAIII 2.5 inch SSD. After doing a mirror image this could / should be Plug-and-play? I was told I had to change something in the Bios of the shop, but I can't find anything to change in the bios. Is it Normal for my laptop? So any advice if the SSD should be Plug-and-play and if not, what settings should I change to make it work.

TIA.

David

It will be "plug and play". Because you are copying a 1 TB to another disk of 1 TB drive about it will be transparent. My best advice is to change the current boot disk HDD in the secondary position and put the new own SSD in the main Bay. Boot the system from a disk cloning software and just clone the old drive to the new. Given that only the main Bay is bootable when finished clone and reboot, you'll turn to the SSD. Your system requires no adjustment in BIOS and assuming that it runs Windows 7 or newer version of the operating system will know it is a SSD and implement the TRIM and the native command queuing, which are necessary for the proper functioning of the SSD. The biggest problem many people have with SSDS is overthinking. In the old days, Vista and a SSD used to be something that only a knowledgeable technician could make it work, but now they are ready for prime time. A lot of the old information remains, unfortunately.

    Here is the Manual:

    Repair manuals

See p. 40-42. There are two hard drive bays. You have a 1 TB drive 5400 RPM in one and the other is empty.

All you need to do is get an SSD. I recommend the Samsung Evo 850:

    http://www.Amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-inch-internal-MZ-75E500B-am/DP/B00OBRE5UE/ref=sr_1_2?s=PC&ie=UTF8&QID=1447200423&SR=1-2&keywords=Samsung+Evo+850

You need this second adapter bay:

Move the old primary hard disk in the second Bay and the SSD in the main Bay. This will start since the SSD drive. You can make a Windows recovery disk and use it to install Windows on the SSD. Post back if this is not clear.

  • HP ENVY 17 Leap Motion SE: Dual boot Windows 10 with 8.1 - Start menu screen does not always watch.

I bought the full version of Windows 10 House because I want to keep my factory installed Win 8.1 x 64 and dual boot with the new OS.

Installation went without problems - on a partition separated after the reduction of the C: partition by default, but when I restart my PC, start menu does not always appear for make me decide which system to choose and the computer boots directly to Windows 8.1.  I even turned off "time to display list of operating systems" when Windows 10 is selected by default OS, but when I turn off my PC for a short period and put back on, I am greeted by Windows 8.1

Could be a bios or partition related question? Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

    Hello

Thank you for posting this and for letting me know it now works for you (which is acceptable to you).

In fact, what you describe above is not a bug, but it should. This is because Microsoft has changed a bit the boot process and the stop function since Win 8 (which means Windows 8, 8.1 and now 10). Instead of the stop full as in Windows XP, Vista, 7, Windows 8, 8.1, and 10 (when he is chosen to turn off) will stop, but closing them is a kind of hibarnation. For this reason, what describe you above is going on (he begins the latest OS because it was really completely out).  Full done restart restarts and it meets the place where the OS is selected.

    More information-> http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/windows-and-office/how-windows-8-hybrid-shutdown-fast-boot-feature-works/

This mode ensures a faster start-up (on cause of so-called half restart).

A workaround for this (works on Win 8, 8.1 and should also work on Win 10):

  • HP ENVY 17-j102tx Leap Motion: IDT pilot Windows 10

Hello! I've recently updated my OS to Windows 10 using the free Microsoft upgrade Service. Before doing so, I cleaned my PC of unnecessary and accidentally uninstalled software IDT HD Audio Driver, who also deleted the Beats Audio Interface. I then went to the HP site (after update my OS) and scanned my products and found that I had this software and Intel MEI Software missing. I then tried to download these software. When I tried to do it it says that Windows 10 USERS ONLY had 1 SOFTWARE AVAILABLE for DOWNLOAD! This software is the Realtek card reader driver. Does this mean that I won't be able to get the driver? Help, please!

    Maya556z, welcome to the forum.

You should try the driver for Win 8.1 to see if it works.  As you have noted, the driver for the Audio is not available to win 10.

  • HP ENVY 17 Leap Motion SE: Beats Audio Controller missing after software update of the M/S

My audio controller BEATS disappeared last night during an automatic upgrade of Microsoft software.  This has happened before, but I thought it would have got corrupted by another way.  So, I restored my drive image from a backup, a month or two before.  Audio beats was back and has worked fine until this last update was installed again last night.  My current software is:

    Windows 10 Home Edition

    Version: 1511

    Build of the OS: 10586.71

    Ideas or explanations?

    Thank you

Thanks for the comments.  It worked exactly as you said.  The only thing you mention in your reply has been that the downloaded file must be run as an administrator.  The first time I just clicked on it, and it is not due to a failure of access through.  When I right-click on the file and click on run as administrator, it ran and reinstalled the Audio Beats controller.  By the way, all the sliders on the controller to work now.  Before losing with the upgrade, the sliders of the Equalizer on the right side of the page "listening experience" did not work.

    Thank you very much!!!

  • HP ENVY 17 Leap Motion SE: Windows.old

I noticed that, after the latest version of software of M/S there is now a folder in my drive C marked 'windows.old '.  It seems to be big enough and seems to have a lot of the stuff that is in the ordinary "windows" directory.  I understand that the update probably renamed my directory windows previous windows.old before installing a new one, but I do not understand the purpose of leave the directory 'windows.old' on the computer after the update found.

Can someone please tell me if the "windows.old" directory is necessary, or can it be deleted?

Any info that you can do about it would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    Hello:

You can consult the user files in the windows.old folder to determine if there are files you want to keep before you delete the windows.old folder.

You don't need to run Windows.

Which should happen when Microsoft pushed the latest version of W10 to all PCs running the first version.

This happened to me in November.

It won't get deleted by itself, then you will need to run the disk and then Cleanup utility when you get to the disk cleanup window, click on the box of files of cleaning system on the lower left side of the window.

She will run again and when you get to the disk cleanup window, you can check all the boxes including the window.old box for remove and free up space on the hard disk.

If your laptop does not have a a SSD drive, also run the Disk Defragmenter utility in order to optimize the drive afterwards.

  • HP ENVY 17 t-j100 Leap Motion QE Notebook PC Port HDMI highest video resolution

What is the maximum video resolution that can be supported with the HDMI output of the GeForce GT 750 M graphics card? I get a new "HP ENVY 17 t-j100 Leap Motion QE Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)" as a guarantee of replacement for an older PC and new PC has only a HDMI connector for an external monitor. The GeForce GT 750 M graphics card will come with 4096 MB memory installed in it. I considering buying a series ASUS PB278Q LCD monitor and would like to know if its resolution 2560 x 1440 WQHD input is supported by Geforce GT 750 M graphics card. The entrance to the Asus monitor is HDMI version 1.4. As I understand it, if the PC's HDMI output is version 1.3 or later, it should be able to handle up to a 2560 x 1600 resolution monitor.

I received my replacement 'HP ENVY 17 t-j100 Leap Motion QE Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)' PC and found that I was able to use my monitor 27 '' Dell in its resolution full 1920 x 1200 with a HDMI to DVI cable - D. The cable I used was an AmazonBasics HDMI to DVI adapter cable (9.8 feet/3.0 meters), I bought from Amazon.com for $7.99, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001TH7T2U/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I still have not been able to confirm the maximum resolution that can be financed by this PC, but either I have to upgrade to a new monitor because I can use my existing at its full resolution.

  • ENVY 17 t-J100 Leap Motion: keyboard backlit ENVY 17 t-J100 Leap Motion edition shuts down after each power down.

My brother has an ENVY 17 t-J000 Quad Edition. Only about 6 months. Its backlit keyboard remembers its state of on or off when it reboots or off. When he turns on his laptop back, the keyboard is always if it's him on when he turned off the laptop.

I just got the ENVY 17 t-J100 Leap Motion backilt keyboard edition. But every time that I reboot or shutdown with the backlight on, it is turned off when I have the laptop or reset. So whenever I have to re - turn on the backlight. Very annoying.

Anyone else with the jump movement 17 t-J100 having this problem? If so, I hope it's fixed soon. I also can't update the Nvidia drivers then perhaps we need a BIOS update to solve these two problems.

I just checked to be sure. It turns off if the laptop is turned off and turned on then again - but if I just restart the kbd is running.

Hello forum, I have a little problem here...

I tried to downgrade my new TouchSmart from HP ENVY 15 15 - j023ea for Windows 7 because it is more familiar/current for me but unforunately I noticed that my laptop is not in the list of drivers for HP

Also, recent models of Envy TouchSmart 15 have no drivers windows 7 (at least what I've seen)

My laptop came with Windows 8 is installed. I installed my windows 7 on this computer and realized I have NO drivers for it...
This is the reason why I went to windows 8 right now and try to find a solution.

I really want to downgrade to windows 7 x 64. Are there drivers for this OS? If someone could help me I would really appreciate it!

    Hello:

HP has come out with some new notebooks of W7.

You should be able to use all the W7 x 64 drivers of this model on your.

DO NOT USE ALL DOWNLOADS OF BIOS OR FIRMWARE FROM THIS LINK

The only factor that is missing is the Intel HD driver you need to install the first before installing the Nvidia graphics driver.

Hello, I have a HP ENVY 17 t-j100 Leap Motion QE CTO Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR) with optimus technology.

Can I disconect the optimus technology and use only the NVIDIA card?

    Hello

    The short answer is no.

On your system type, the gpu from Intel is always used to render the view final, regardless of whether the discrete Nvidia chip is used for the treatment or non-graphical.

  • HP ENVY 17-j112tx Leap Motion: Overclocking my HP ENVY 17-j112tx Leap Motion SE Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

    Hey all,.

My laptop that I liked for the time I got it, so a pretty good personal camera all-round.

However as I just realized, the processor isn't quite cut. For these unfimilair with this product, it's Intel Core i7-4702MQ CPU @ 2.20 GHz. Which is decent except the Gigahertz.

And as I came to learn, the BIOS Overclocking locked so my question to you is if I can overclock my processor in anyway eventually (even with a cost?). I'd give perfer to keep this laptop as it has a 16gbs of ram and a decent graphics card!

    Thanks in advance.
