  In addition to what Shawn said, there should be a key you can hit while the manufacturer of your computer display... before starting windows... To RESET or RESTORE factory.

  More pre-installed machines have a key such as F12 or something to do.

  My HP laptop for example, forces me to hit ESC. It will then display a menu of different options.

  Due to virus I had to rebuild PC using the RECOVERY partition on hard drive. All windows updates have been applied to date (August 2011). Before the virus problem (July 2011) WAS able TO SELECT THE "MASTERED" OPTION WHEN YOU are GOING to USE WINDOWS TO BURN a VIRGIN DVD + r. NEW once AGAIN, this WORKED BEFORE, NOW THE MASTER OPTION IS GRAYED OUT.  I have a brand new DVD + R blank and tried several of them thinking it was the disk (I've used this same brand (magnavox) DVD + R 4 years now never this problem of the "controlled" option is grayed out.) I use the same DVD burner which came with the PC and it allowed me to select the option "Mastered" last month (July 2011). I am using Windows HomePrem 32-bit OS (originial system that came with PC and this allowed me to select the mastered option last month. I applied all the updates Win at present. I have no other problems with the PC. Once again, driving the nail: this WORKED BEFORE, last month on the exact same hardware and the software/OS (Juillet2011), then why this option appears GRAYED out now?  This question has been asked before and 'experts' simply stressed totally USELESS MS pages showing how to select either under control or direct - I DO NOT NEED THIS HELP as I ALREADY KNOW HOW TO SELECT either option and what each is for. Also the other 'fixed' DOES NOT APPLY to this situation.   I bought a new HP Envy Monday (today is Wednesday) and I noticed that the battery is charged at 50% (the battery icon, when you go over it, says 50% load)

  I found this curious, because I got the battery plugged for more than 8 hours.

  I made sure the strings have been correctly connected, removed and added to the battery, etc.. I found some additional information and checked the battery HP using HP Support system, and he says that the battery must be replaced. This test is accurate? I have to really replace a battery for a laptop brand new?

  Should I try another test before asking for a new battery? Thank you in advance for your help!

  It certainly seems that the machine comes with a defective battery, so my best advice would be to return the laptop (not only the battery) to the retailer you bought it and get a replacement.

  Sorry, but I've put everything I know about audio HDMI in the FAQ. If the instructions in the FAQ on the cables, ports, drivers and connection steps are met, but you still get no sound, I can't think of anything that you can do.

  I am trying to connect my new Pavilion p7-1240 to my HDTV but do not have a HDMI port on my new computer. After doing some research I'm to mix signals about whether or not a DVI to HDMI cable will carry audio. I just called Radio Shack and they are salesman told me that the AVIO HDMI to DVI cable carries the audio. However further research says that it is not.

  1. the standard DVI carries only video, standard HDMI carries both video and audio.
  2. DVI to HDMI converter adapter / (no need to convert) carries video only.
  3. you need a cable to carry the audio from your laptop to your TV. They can sell a combined adapter, but it must get out of the 2 ports on your laptop: DVI port for video and headphones or line out audio port.

  HDMI cables are supported, but not all, audio signals compatible HDMI video audio support cards. If your TV has an audio input, you might be able to connect an audio cable separated from the sound card of your computer directly to the TV. Otherwise, you need to connect the different audio signal to an output device, such as external speakers or your stereo. Follow these methods and check if that helps:

  By default, Windows routes no sound on HDMI output. To change this to change the settings in the control panel.

  Note: This will turn off sound from speakers or normal audio output on the laptop. To get that back, you will need to reverse this process.

  (a) press the Windows key + X
  (b) click on 'control panel '.
  (c) with the control to the "Control Panel Home" Panel, click on 'hardware and sound '.
  (d) where it says "Sound" in green letters, there are three options below that are blue, click on "manage Audio devices.
  (e) this will bring up a window titled "Sound".
  (f) on the tab 'Read' it has listed the sound options at your disposal. It should read "peripheral digital output (HDMI)" click on it.
  (g) should be now a checkmark on this option, make sure you HDMI Audio as default value.
  (h) the sound should play through your HDMI connections to the TV.

  Try the following.

  Download IDT Audio Installer on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

  One time finished, open windows control panel, open Device Manager and open sound, video and game controllers.  Right click on the IDT device and select uninstall - also, you should get a command prompt to delete the current driver, check the box allow this and then proceed to uninstall.

  When you are finished, download and reinstall the Chipset driver at the following link.

  Chipset Driver - Windows 8.

  Once done, press and hold the SHIFT key when you click shutdown , completely power down the laptop,

  When the laptop is turned off, press and hold the button for 10 seconds.

  Robinet tap away at the key esc that you start the computer to launch the Start Menu, and then select f10 to open the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the default values (sometimes it's f9, but the menu below indicates the correct key), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press ENTER.  Press f10 to save the setting and still use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and press on enter.

  Allow Windows to fully - charge it will automatically load an audio driver, but let just this complete.  Then open your download folder, right-click on the IDT Installer and select "Run as Administrator" to launch the installation.  Once this done, do a right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select playback devices.  'Speakers and headphones' left click once to highlight, and then click the Set Default button - check if you now audio.
