    Hello Derek

Use the F2 key to enter the BIOS settings and change the order of boot devices. This option is under the STARTUP tab. Otherwise, you can insert the recovery CD when the unit is turned OFF. Turn it on and immediately press the C button. keep it down for a few seconds and unit is forced from the CD/DVD drive.

You may or may not need to change the BIOS settings.  Assuming that you have a bootable CD with this tool, put it in your CD drive and restart the computer.  One of the 3 things will happen:

    1. the computer starts from the CD and you can follow all instructions you have Symantec.

2 watching very carefully that the computer starts.  You may see a message that says something like "press any key to boot from the CD-ROM.  If you see this message, press a key (for example, the space bar) and the computer boots from the CD.

    3. watch very carefully that the computer starts.  You will see a message that says something like, "to change settings, press F1."  The key that you press on will be different depending on your particular computer.  It might be F1 or F10 or del key.  Whatever it is, press this button and you will enter the BIOS configuration utility.  From there, you can change the boot order to CD first.  Directions to navigate the BIOS Setup will be displayed on the screen, but they will involve using the button tab, enter, and arrow keys, because your mouse does not work in this utility.

This folder is located in the windows folder: $NtUninstallKB36574$
It is not accessible.  I can't change the security settings.
It is the remains of an outbreak of the virus.
I saw that on 2 client computers this course last 6 months.
So, how is it possible for an inaccessible folder to administrators?
How can I change the security settings to remove.
After you run several virus cleaners, I'm pretty sure that the virus has disappeared.
    Ideas?

You should be able to remove it from the command prompt in Windows Repair Mode.

Why can't change the sharpness of safesearch under PC control change window

    Hi John,.

    1. What happens when you try to change the safesearch settings? You get the error message?
    2. Is research and results from Bing website suggestions option enabled? If this is not the case, turn it on and try to change the settings. This is because if the same is disabled, then the option in this window will be gray and you will not be able to make changes.

  • X 1 carbon - cannot unlock the Bios settings

    Hello!

For testing purposes, I set a supervisor password and put a lock on the Bios settings. Since then I can't access the settings because I have never asked the supervisor password. The biometric characteristics are activated. So when I restart and press F1 I get into the bios without beeing asked a password but I can't change the values.

You associate your fingerprints with the supervisor password?  Another option instead of dragging your finger please press ESC and then manually type the password, I hope it will work.

  • I am Admin on my PC, but cannot change the display settings.

I have vista home premium and I can't change my wallpaper. I am logged on as administrator and can change most of the other settings, but a box tells be that the administrator has blocked the launching of the display settings control panel. I don't think that I have never done this, not intentionally at least. I tried to use the parameters of Environmental Variables, but it's like a foreign language to me - I don't know what to do with it. I don't have time for this! I have a job to do. Does anyone know an easy fix for this?

  • Sound problems on computer, cannot change the sound settings

I had a long-standing problem in the audio settings of the Control Panel on Windows 7 where I can't change settings, configure anything or especially toggle of the devices. The options are there, but they have no effect when selected. Recently, I tried to connect my laptop to a TV, and as I could not set as the default audio device, I finally decided to try to fix things. I deleted and reinstalled the software Realtek my laptop and everything he has done is completely turn off my speakers, and all attempts to reactivate failed them. The unit displays in the control panel as a default active device, but claims of the taskbar that there are no speakers is connected, and if I click to set up the Realtek Audio, I have the same situation that before where absolutely nothing is happening.

I tried troubleshooting sound problems, and all I get is the statement that an audio device is disabled, no attempt to fix or any option to enable. Apart from a system restore, that in general, I try to avoid, I feel that I have tried everything I can think of to fix this and only managed to make it worse. No help available would be appreciated to receive my laptop back to a functioning State.

Model is a fickle Dell XPS L501X, if this is any help.

I tried both of these methods several times without success, but since I found a result to this problem online. (Here: http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-no-sound-the-unsolvable-problem-take-the-challenge-594113.html)

I will stick also the solution here should someone stumbles on this page in the future trying to solve the same problem:

    Hello

I just changed a new laptop with win 7. I have a little problem with screen saver which is defined in the field of sleep on white screen, set to 15 minutes and requires the password. Everything is more gray, so I have no possibility to change that.

Can someone help me to unlock the screen saver settings (remove the grey shadow) so that I can customize my screen saver?

    Thank you

    Hi Baracus,

    1. are you able to click on the dropdown under screen saver?
2 or it is dimmed as well?

If this isn't the case, then select a different screen saver and try to change the settings.

(* 1) * my knowledge the CMOS battery is soldered to the motherboard and cannot be replaced like for example on desktop PC
(* 2) * remove the CMOS battery would NOT reset the BIOS nor would be to remove the passwords.

If I understand your problem, you are not able to access the BIOS, but you can start the laptop and the system. Is this correct?

You have a kind of password (user / supervisor password?)

I put a windows disc now, I hear the disc spin but nothing on the screen

    It s a Toshiba Satellite Pro L40 model psl4be.

    Thank you

    > There was no bios password... How would a BIOS reset to normal?

You can set the default BIOS ONLY inside the BIOS access BIOS by pressing F2 or at the beginning of the initialization of the order

But I doubt that this problem is related to the BIOS.
Maybe it s just a simple bad luck that this problem happened exactly after change something in the BIOS.

Try connecting an external monitor and check if you can see something on the 2nd screen.
