HP Pavilion - "press ESC for Boot Menu" on initialize to top

Hello

I have a Pavillion g6 laptop running Windows 7.

I ran into a problem when booting the computer displays the message "Press the ESC key for startup menu" momentarily, the screen goes black, and this message again.  No HP logo ever, just this message appears.

I am able to access the HP Boot Menu and I ran across each of the diagnostic tests, and all of them have passed (battery, memory, HARD drive, established and start-up). I also reset the BIOS to its original settings. It is said that there is no update for the BIOS and no versions prior to a restore to.

I have not installed, changed or deleted in any material.

I tried to do a hard reset (power remove battery and hold it for 15 seconds). Who did nothing.

Finally, the Windows recovery option brings back me right of the black screen where it asks to press the ESC key.

My questions:

-What are the precise diagnostic tests indicating that the memory, HARD drive and battery are fine? If they pass these tests, it excludes these items as being the problem?

-What other things could be the cause?

Thanks a lot for your help.

Other information to help diagnose this, let me know.

Hi Kyledow,

I read your message. You can try first of all as a result of this document on the boot configuration order. That this would take effect until Windows has started and would not change on the system restore.

http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c00364979

The diagnostics are very reliable. Make sure you have removed all external USB devices before all the steps.

Please let me know.

Thank you.

I unplugged the graphics card to clean dust. After that I connected everything again, he stuck to the blue screen with the words "Press ESC for Boot Menu" on the bottom. If I press ESC at the beginning, it will go to a black screen and it will show the basic information of the computer (information about the processor and memory). It also show this black screen, "Press ESC for Boot Menu" on the bottom and it will show "Start menu" in the lower right corner. If I press F8 at the beginning, it's going to be the same black screen, but it does not "Start menu" show in the lower right. If I press F10 at the beginning, it will go to the same black screen, and it will show "setup" in the lower right. Can someone help me solve this problem? And thank you very much!

So I suggest to look at the following and try to 'Clear the CMOS settings' as described at the bottom of the page: HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - specifications of the motherboard, IPISB-CH2 (Chicago).  Then see if there is no change at all.  If there is no improvement, then use the following http://www.hp.com/contacthp, fill in the form, create a folder for your question and then use the information to contact HP.

When I RESTART my computer [pavilion dv6c16nr] laptop it says press ESC KEY TO START MENU but when I press the esc/ESC key nothing happens pls help me solve this problem. a big thank you to this site and more power!

    Hello

    Try the following.

Shut down the laptop, unplug the AC adapter and remove the battery.  Follow the procedure on Page 59 of your Interview Guide & Service to remove the RTC battery.  When finished, press and hold power for 30 seconds and then leave the laptop for 10 minutes.  Reinsert the RTC battery, replace lids etc., reinsert the battery, plug in the AC adapter and try to start the laptop.

If the above does not help, shut down the laptop again.  Try typing away to f10 you start the laptop to see if it will enter the bios menu.  If so, under the Advanced or the Diagnostic tab, you will find the possibility to run tests on the hard drive and memory.  Post back with the details of any error message.

  • Press F1 to continue on to initialize the top? »

I saw a number of messages about this problem, but no solutions. I just replaced the original concert of WD 250 fried HD in my old 8400 dimension with a new WD 500 gig. I've updated the bios to A09 version and have had a painless another reinstallation of Windows XP, but I have to hit 'F1' to start normally. Anyone know how I can get rid of this irritation, please?

Thanks for your reply. I have not installed the disk SATA drivers, away from the computer during the formatting of the HD as I have never seen this option. On a positive note, however, I solve my problem by going into the BIOS and ' turn off "all of the unused SATA drives. I also read a post on attachment to a PS2 Keyboard and mouse to solve this problem, but that has not worked for me.

  • Pavilion dv7: Press esc at the startup problem

I get the Press esc for boot menu message and it crashes it whenever I try to start. I can make it work if I remove the battery and hold down the button to start for 10 seconds or more. I know that it is supposed to discharge the static electricity while doing this, but what else who don't.

I'm shocked that a seemingly independent problem could cause such a problem but after swapping of batteries for laptops with a friends same battery, my laptop has no start-up problems. I tried several times and no problems. It seemed to be too quickly into the routine of starting for something like that, but I guess that my problem is solved.

  • Unable to access the Boot Menu

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-1005eg and today I wanted to install a new operating system (Windows7).

After installation, the system unbootable. I tried to boot from a DVD or a Flash drive, but it still does not work.

What I see is the HP invent Logo and "press ESC for Boot Menu". Although I press the Escape-button nothing happens.

    I found a post here:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/notebook-lockups-freezes-hangs/access-to-BIOS/TD-p/1504303

It seems to be the same problem, but another laptop. I don't know where this battery is in my laptop.

    Could you help me?

    EDIT:

I found the RTC battery, removed and then I pressed the power button for 1 Minute. I put the battery back in but it's always the same problem. Nothing has changed.

    Hello

Power access and use the menu starup is a good thing. This means that the BIOS is not altered.

If you can access the start menu and the BIOS, then it means that it is likely that the hard drive has failed.

Replace the hard drive with another, and then install an operating system on it.

  • In the start-up procedure, how can I remove "press ESC to access the Start Menu" when the machine hangs at the HP logo screen?

    Hello

I am running 64 Win7HP on a laptop HP dv3, processor Core 2 Duo 4 GB DDR2 Ram, 320 GB HD, just as it came out of the box when purchased directly from HP replaced EXCEPT Vista OS with 64bits Win7HP.  Machine worked fine until the LAST update of Windows, where during the reboot, I got to the HP logo screen and in the lower left corner of the screen appeared the statement (for THE FIRST TIME) "Press ESC for the Start Menu."  Pressing Esc translates into another command "press Esc...".  Break. " When you press ESC, you get a black screen until the machine goes to sleep UNLESS you press Ctrl + Alt + Delete. If you press the 3 key combo, it will continue to start and brings you to the screen of your password for access and then operate nicely, until you turn off the system. So, how can I get rid of the superfluous instructions and get this thing here where he turns and goes directly to the screen of password without intermediate steps?  Restore points are long since gone for immediate access to the front last Win Update.
The answer may be simple, but until now it has escaped my low range.  Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Creyn1,

Welcome to the community Microsoft and thanks for posting the question.

According to the description, it looks that you are facing a problem when connecting, he would be grateful if you can answer this question in order to help you further.

Do you receive an error message or error code?

I suggest trying to boot in safe mode and check if it helps.

Start your computer in safe mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If its working fine with safe mode then put the computer in a clean boot state, then check if that helps you

Put the computer in a clean boot state and check if any third-party application is causing the problem, as the start-up boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to solve the problem by running the clean boot in Windows 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Once you have completed troubleshooting, perform the steps in the step 3: to reset the computer as usual.

  • Laptop does not, shows "press the ESC key for startup menu?

    Hello

    I have a hp laptop Pavilion g6 (product QE05UA #ABA, model: g6-1c35dx)
. For a while his summer of problems, it was slow, showing the virus, and now it won't start.

I left it on the mode 'sleep' last night, once I opened it today, it has been disabled. I thought that he lost battery which usually doesn't happen, but I turned it on and it shows a flashing screen that comes on and then turns black, again and again. the flashing screen shows "press ESC key for startup menu.

In addition, the caps lock key will blink once when that lights up the screen.
When I press "esc" it says this:

    The F1 system information
    The F2 System Diagnostics
    F9 boot device options
    Bios F10 Setup
    F11 system recovery
    Enter - continue starting

I tried all of them, including some tests in "BIOS".

I don't know much about computers, and it is one that I need so help is greatly appreciated.

    Hello @Mike1994r ,

    Thank you for your reply,

I see that you were able to run the tests and make a recovery but the problem persists, I suspect a hardware problem.  As you were unable to locate the problem of testing, I suggest contacting HP support for assistance.

  • Blocked (or almost) to "Press the ESC key for Startup Menu" - hardware error!

    Hello

My daughter has a laptop HP 625 (product code WS786EA #AKS, windows 7) is no longer starts. I tried a lot but have now run out of ideas on how to fix it (or see what error)

When I power on, it is blocked for a long time on the HP logo screen, saying "button press ESC to the Start Menu. If I press ESC (or any other F key) nothing happens for a long time. After a certain time (like 10 minutes) a menu option is written (I think it's "Press F1 for information system"). Then after a while longer (like 5 mintues longer) finally appears in the start menu. He responds so quickly (within the menu system) and I can do some tests.

I took the HARD drive, but the slow boot process is still there, I have to wait 10-20 minutes to go into the start menu.

Once there, I was able to do a memory test, but there is no error found.

Once there I also managed to update the BIOS (via a bootable USB key) without HARD drive being installed. The same behavior is still there after upgrade (without HARD drive).

I tried to watch the Flash of the LED "Caps lock". It does not Flash after a long period. I didn't know exactly when it started (I couldn't stay there for 10 minutes waiting for a key to blink maybe), but when I started as he blinked at least 10 times, if it does not match any of the blink codes.

(I accosted the HARD disk in a USB dock and drive execution som cheques. Some errors have been corrected, but he seemed to be OK also before that. After all the actions above, I reinstalled the HARD drive in the laptop, put in a DVD to recover Windows 7 and rebooted. He didn't care. It 'still hangs"att Startup logo).

Of course, there is a hardware error, but I wonder how much it will be, it does not, and how do you know?

Hoping for help from you experts out there...

    Hello matsgw,

You got an error for the HARD drive.

The error you are getting is to replace the HARD drive.

It could be a bad port on the motherboard

When you start the computer, press F11 and see if you can run a return to settings recovery factory, perhaps a software error.

I would like to know how everything goes.

    Nice day.

I'm tired of startup in the BIOS and the passage between the CDROM and HDD.  How can I get a boot menu (and make sure that I have enough time to choose) to choose between bootable devices?

You can change your VM and adjust advanced startup option, and specify 'power on delay boot' to some fault.
