HP Presario CQ61-334ER: Windows 7 license

Hello!
A few years ago, I bought a HP Presario CQ61-334ER laptop with OS Windows 7 Home Basic already installed license.  Windows license key is noted on the label on the laptop, but there is no CD drive with the operating system.

Now, there are a few problems with the hard drive, so I have to replace it with a new HARD drive.

Can I reinstall the same version of Windows 7 on a new hard drive, using the psecified license key Windows on a laptop? Or I can reinstall OS on the new HARD drive using system repair discs?

P.S. in Microsoft Support advised contact me HP support as the laptop was purchased with already installed the operating system.

For your first game, you can try to order the HP recovery media to install so that you can restore it to the factory. See first part...

Get a HP USB recovery or HP recovery disc drive
Read this before ordering your recovery discs! (United States and Canada only)
Creation of recovery disks or saving a recovery Image on a USB key-CD/DVD (Windows 7)

As for your second part, your key to produce both that the laptop was unique to your laptop and located on the COA sticker. You can reinstall Windows 7, but it must match your previous Windows 7 Home Basic not another different version of Windows 7. Then your product key will work and you can re-enable again to make it work. If you bought a different version and higher to Windows 7 then you should got a new product with him key to activate the Windows 7 new with this.

Compaq Presario CQ61 running Windows 7 Home Premium (build 7601) bought about 4 years ago.

Computer failed to restart after a period of sleep.  I suspect that it doesn't have an automatic restart after automatic installation of an update - it's only a guess because I have no access to the computer at the moment, but I had a similar problem recently - on this occasion, I got a 'Safe Mode' start - by pressing F8 repeatedly gave me access to the appropriate screen.  I've implemented subsequently by restoring the system to a point just before a automatic installation of a critical Windows Update, and that seemed to do the trick.

On this occasion the F8 route has no effect on the problem; the 'caps lock' and 'NumLock' continually of the blink just of LED (i.e. not a limited number of times), the fan starts, but there is no other sign of life.  I tried a hard restart, but without result.  I also removed and replaced memory, but once again no effect.

    Can you please advise.

I'm so sorry I couldn't help you solve the problem, but maybe you could try to free the keyboard, nothing will happen if you do not lose the cpu and tight again. I know that the keyboard one is hard, persevering, best wishes.

  • Presario CQ61-110SL: upgrade for laptop Presario CQ61-110SL from XP to Windows 7 with new SSD EVO 840

In fact on Presario CQ61-110SLI I have XP installed the Vista of origin instead.

Now I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and contestually get a new SSD Samsung 840 rather original EVO... What is the correct procedure?

    Thank you

    Hello

Thanks for posting in the Forum from HP Support.

There is no procedure to upgrade from XP to Win 7, it would be clean installation.

    1. place the SSD drive in the machine instead of the HARD disk

    2. start the installation of Win 7 disc to install Win 7 (best x 64 edition)

3 install the drivers of the machine, you can download from >here<

Windows 7 is optimized to work with SSD, there will be no problem.

If you have important data on your old HDD, you can either save it before (on external support, USB key, Cloud solution, etc.)  or after it (via a USB cable plugged into the laptop as external drive). This is also an option to transfer data.

Please, let me know if you have any other questions. Happy holidays!

  • Presario CQ61 connect to the TV via HDMI on Windows 7

    Hello

I can't understand how to connect my Presario CQ61 Notebook to a Philips TV HDMI on Windows 7. I checked the settings in the control panel in Windows 7 and put them in several screens. Under the NVIDIA Control Panel, I cloned the views. Nothing happens, black screen on TV with the message "no signal". The laptop is recognizing the TV properly by the way.

Help, please. I already spent 2 hours on it. Tried various items online, but nothing seems to work. The HDMI cable is OK. I plugged a PlayStation to TV. Seems that it is not a hardware problem, but something with the settings on my laptop.

    Hi @bonbon,

Thank you for visiting the Forums HP's Support and welcome. I read on your Compaq Presario CQ61 notebook and not able to connect a HDMI monitor. Here is a document on how to connect the TV.

    I hope this helps.

    Thank you.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61-412NR: version from Windows 7 to Windows XP? Is it still possible?

Hello everyone, I am having problems with my boyfriend of fixing laptop.

My boyfriend has experienced major issues at the completion of his college work on his laptop, so I decided to put it skills I've been self-teaching myself over the years to test and devalue its Windows 7 PC to Windows XP - since we are both students of college, it's nearly impossible to afford a new laptop so easily so it is better to fix the computer we have until we can get the money to pay a new.

It seemed to be an easy process, but I could not manually use a XP boot disk because Windows 7 is newer than XP (of course).

Then I tried to use the program nLite, but SATA drivers are no longer available or that they are under a different name on the Intel Web site.

I also tried to change the BIOS, but there is no option for me to do when I was in the screen of the BIOS F10.

I'm out of options with it. Is there a way to downgrade? Preference using nLite? If this is not the case, what can I do else?

His model of laptop is a Presario CQ61-412NR laptop running Windows 7 64-bit edition. The processor is an AMD Sempron M120 2.10 GHz and has 1 GB of RAM.

    Thank you!

    Hello:

I compressed upwards and tied the sata drivers, you need to integrate below.

Because the laptop has an AMD processor and chipset, you must integrate the AMD, not the ones Intel sata drivers.

  • Compaq presario cq61: change the boot sequence

I have 10 Windows upgrade on my compaq Presario cq61 free. I want to do a clean install of Windows 10. I downloaded the tool of Microsoft Media, made a key USB and DVD containing the clean install. I am told that the use of the flash player, I have to change the boot sequence in the bios. I tried everything from ESC, all numbers F and LED to try to enter the bios and all have failed. Told me that all I had to do with the DVD was just put it in and start the computer and the laptop would boot from the DVD and I could make my own installation from there. Which also failed. The only thing I have not tried is downgrade to Windows 7, affecting Windows 7 back to factory settings, then reinstall the free update of Windows 10. I would not have to go through all if I mostly because I bought the laptop from a friend and it was installed at the factory of Windows 7 and I don't got no disc software to the computer so I don't want to screw up and drop windows 7 without the appropriate software reinstall to match the product key.

Any help to enter in the bios or advice that could help me reach my goal would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello

    Here are some other suggestions.

    1. start the machine in Windows 10.

Open settings and select System.  Select food and sleep, and then click additional power settings - in the next window, click on "Choose what the power button" in the left pane.

In the next window, click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable" (close), then Remove the check mark from the box against 'Turn on a quick start (recommended) '.  Click on the button Save the settings, and then close any open windows and stop the laptop by right clicking on the icon from the Start Menu, then select prompt (Admin) and click 'Yes' to the uac prompt.

Type (or copy and paste) the following command (including spaces) and click Enter.

    Shutdown /s /t 0

Tap on the ESC key as soon as you turn it on and see if it will now access the Start Menu.

2 try to connect a keyboard external usb and see if this will allow you to access the Start Menu.

    Kind regards

  • Compaq Presario CQ61 - 417SA Notebook PC Freeze issues

    Hello everyone

I have a Compaq Presario CQ61 - 417SA Notebook PC running on Windows 7 Home Premium. The laptop freezes at random times, sometimes minutes after use or an hour after use. It does not result by clicking on a program or a file. I have printing freeze the problem may be caused by the failure of the hardware, possibly the HARD drive.

Here are a few observations from the laptop and the things that I tried to diagnose or repair.

    • During a typical blocking the HDD LED light is always on
    • Also had the blue screen and freeze black screen
    • No error message
    • Hard disk becomes very hot
    • Entered the BIOS and run automatic test of the primary hard drive and memory Test using InsydeH20 Setup utility but it went together.
    • Laptop computer has been completely reset to factory settings so it is impossible due to the high utilization of the processor
    • Idle while the CPU usage is generally of the order of 13%-25%, with a peak of rare of 53%
    • The hard drive is a Western digital Scorpio Black 320 GB 2.5 "SATA

The laptop is not used so wiping back to settings to original wasn't a problem, but I would like to return to a usable level.

Thanks for any help you could offer

    Mike

I was certain insistence autour in my computer and I'm done to restore back to factory settings. So far, it has not frozen and seems to work properly.

I tried updating the BIOS with HP Support Assistant, but it does not work. Hoping to solve the problem I went online and updated my support Assistant. After this success, I then managed to download the BIOS from internet F.15 version I was also looking for. Everything seems to work quite fine at the moment, although there are a few updates to Windows that will not be installed. The progress bar shows the animation download but the installation hangs at 1 / 8. Some items are classified as "recommended" or "important" so any help with this problem would be immensely appreciated!

    Hello

As I see that the hard drive on your unit has failed you need to replace the hard drive, then reinstall the operating system on your device then only unit will return to operational status.

If your laptop is still under warranty, contact HP and arrange for the disc replaced.

If you are out of warranty and would like a guide to replacing the hard drive yourself, let me know.

  • Compaq Presario CQ61 wireless problem

I use a PC Compaq Presario CQ61-411WM with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, and I am not able to connect to the internet, because the PC does not detect the available wireless networks. The HP wireless assistant reported that the wireless device is disabled in the Device Manager. However, when I check the device under network adapters Manager, Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller does not display an error or a problem. I'm really very happy for any help with this. Thank you.

    Hello:

Well, the only thing I can think of to confirm that your wireless card did or didn't die is to go into your BIOS by pressing F10 at HP welcome screen and see if there is a configuration menu of devices and make sure that your wireless adapter is displayed.

If it does not appear, make sure that the setting is set to enabled.

If it is not, then I guess that the card is completely broken.

If it is listed and enabled in the BIOS, then you have a major software problem and my solution would be to save all the files you want to keep and perform a system recovery.

  • Laptop hardware failure, no bios, on Presario CQ61 unknown error code

    Hello

I have a presario CQ61-417SA, a little more than two years. Work is to put and received persistent of the flashing lights on the locking caps and num lock keys only. The lights flash continuously and therefore does not seem to correspond with any one of the error codes provided by the HP support pages.

    I tried:

Check the fans for excessive heat (seems normal)

Remove the RAM and swap ram slot positions

Replace the RAM with new ram

Remove and re insert a hard disk to see if any changes

Attempted to reboot the system BIOS using the windows + B key as is described in the hp support no chance

Remove the WIFI to achieve was not causing problems

Replace the battery of the BIOS with a working version

Checked the laptop computer charger with a multi meter, is perfect

Tried with and without the battery to ensure this causing problems wasent

However I still not got lucky. Im a little annoyed about how the laptop isn't really that old and that the guarantee is over, so there is not much I can do without having to pay a lot of money.

I took a few laptops out and so im happy to do things myself, and would appreciate any guidance or advice you may have.

    Thanks for your time

    Ben

Sorry for not updating. I found the problem.

The heat sink had never touched the gpu and there seems to be one problem with other laptops hp and compaq (and other laptop manufacturers). Thermal paste had not yet touched the gpu, it looked fresh as if it had been the same day. I suppose therefore that solder joints had melted from the heat.

The way I fixed it is probably not recommended by HP (I don't think anyone should really do, its dangerous, and you should really buy a new motherboard). I took all of the motherboard all stickers, battery, whatever it is removable. Then put in the oven at 200 ° c for 8 min let weld refuses or get a proffessional do it with a real soldering tool. You then put a piece of copper between the radiator and the gpu to make it work. (I have this and its broke again) so the time to get a new laptop.

I think this question shows terrible production and control of this piece of hardware that have produced as his obvious fault that they should do something to fix in new laptops and the HP and compensate its customers with laptops like mine repair parts that now have to buy a new because of the guarantee short and overpriced.
