HP series 8500 909 printer offline

I have a new HP 8500 wireless printer. Setup was easy and the printer and wireless worked well. However, after some time, Windows 7, says that the printer is offline. There is no way to reconnect to the printer, even if is not in mode 'sleep' and wireless Internet works fine. The only solution I've found is that whenever the printer offline message, I need to go to the control panel > printers > and remove the HP 8500 and then reinstall it by selecting "add a printer". Needless to say, it is a pain. Anyone facing this problem and find a better solution?

If it looks like your question:

After you install the product on a network, you turn off the computer, and then, and the product loses functionality. The product is no longer prints and disappears from the icon of the product in the menu devices and printers in Windows 7 (64-bit).

Try this fix:

  • Troubleshooting printer offline

Printer offline can be resolved in 2 ways.

Quick fix: reboot the router, restart the printer & computer

-printer offline error can happen again if the router has a dynamic IP address (most consumer routers using dynamic IP)

    Permanent solution:

    1. print and evaluate a network configuration page (steps are to hp.com)

2 make a note of your IP address of the printer from your print network configuration page

3 assign your product HP one static IP address:

Open a new Internet browser window, type the IP address of the HP product in the browser address bar and press ENTER. A web page is displayed, indicating the internal settings of the HP product

Click the network tab, click the Wireless tab, and then click the IPv4 tab (the menu path may be slightly different, depending on your model of HP product. A new settings page.

Set a manual IP address: your router assigns an IP address within a certain range (called the DHCP range). If you know what is the DHCP range, set an IP address in which the last set of numbers is outside this range, but no more than 254. Keep the first three sets of numbers even. If you do not know the DHCP range, select a high enough IP, like 250 (again, for the last series of numbers). For your router's DHCP range, contact your provider of Internet Service (ISP) or wireless router manufacturer. (USE THE ROUTER CHEAT LIST BELOW)

Subnet address: use 255.255.255.0, unless you know that it is different, in which case you must use this number.

Set the gateway address and the first DNS: enter the IP Address of your router (can be found on the Network Setup page or the wireless network test report).
    Note: Leave blank DNS

Click on apply. The screen is not refreshed. If you have changed the IP address of the HP product of what you typed in your Internet browser, you will need to type in the new IP address to access the HP product. If you have not changed the IP address of the HP product, wait 30 seconds after clicking on apply and then click on the button refresh of your browser.

Print another network setup page (or wireless network test report) of the Control Panel on your HP product to verify that the address IP of the product is that you have assigned.

Turn off the wireless router. If the wireless router does not have a power button, unplug the power cord on the router to turn it off.
To turn it off, press the Power () button on the HP product.
Turn on the wireless router. If the wireless router does not have a power button, reconnect the power cord to the router to turn it on.
To restart, press the Power () button on the HP product.
If you have changed the IP address of your HP product in step 4, then there could be an additional step necessary, depending on your printer model (this step applies only to Windows users):
    Find the HP folder:
    Windows XP
Click Start, click all programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product and then look for an item called update IP address.

    Windows Vista or Windows 7
Click on the Windows icon click all programs, click HP, click the folder for your HP product and then look for an element called update IP address.

If the updated IP address entry is not present, so no additional steps are required.
If the IP update is present, click it and enter the new IP address that you entered in step 4.

    Router cheatsheet:

    D - Link router IP: 192.168.0.1
    PW: [leave blank]
    Login: admin
    Beach DHCP 100 to 199

    Router Linksys IP:192.168.1.1
    PW:admin
    Log: [leave blank]
    Beach DHCP 100 to 149

    Netgear IP:192.168.0.1 router
    PW: password
    Login: admin
    Range2 DHCP to 254

The Apple router IP: use "Airport utility".
    PW: public
    Log: [no]
    Beach DHCP 2 to 200

You can also use Hp Print Diagnostic Utility in the HP website, but the best & permanent resolution is to assign static IP printer.

  • FOJ 8500 909 g will not fully install, not accessible from the computers in home wireless network

I bought an Officejet Pro 8500 909 g which worked well on our home network for 18 months.  Desktop is 32-bit Windows 7 with a USB cable.  Two wireless devices are 64-bit Windows 7.  Printer suddenly has not recognized the cartridges and frozen with the message "problem with the ink cartridge.  Called HP (unassisted) and tech support of holders of the contract of service - without help.  They sent a refurbished (even) model which I can't install on USB or wireless connection completely.  Yesterday, I was able to print at least one 3 machines on the network (not every machine wireless).  Today, I can not print even the USB device.  5 days lost uninstall then reinstall the printer software, router, etc.  Connected wireless network.  Printer says it is on the wireless network.  HP Solution center is not accessible because the "printer is not completely installed. Help?

    Hi EWQuince,

The information you have given it seems that the printer is not on the same network as the computer. If the printer was on the same network as the computer, the IP address would be 192.168.1 instead of 192.168.33. You must run the printer Wireless Setup Wizard and make sure that you connect it to a network, the computers are connected. Once you have the printer connected to the same network all your problems should be solved.

To connect to the wireless network

    Dear neonskeleton,

Thank you for your help and advice. Knowing that MacAfee firewall settings could cause the symptoms that I saw was the key to the resolution.

    (1) launch McAfee Security Center (version 11.6)

    (2) under the featurestab, select Web and Email Protection

    (3) in the options that appear, click firewall.

    (4) in the options that appear, click Internet connections for programs

    (5) in the options displayed, choose Spooler SubSystem App

    (6) with the selected item, choose Edit

    (7) change 'Access' to the outgoing
    (8) Chooe Save, then on quitMcAfee

Hope this helps the next person.

  • OfficeJet Pro 8500 a: printer no longer works after reset wireless network

OfficeJet Pro 8500 has, MacBook Pro, running the Mavericks.

For 3 days, when we added a password and blocked our router wireless (modem ATT UVerse), our printer is "offline" print jobs queued, but do not print.  When I go and check it says "printer offline".  Or in the print queue, it is something like "looking for printer."

He worked briefly when we found a power cord and plugged into the laptop, but will not work wireless, which he did before.    No changes except to repeat password for the network.

I have the manual and you have turned off everything, then return in the order recommended (router, printer, then laptop).  Always offline.   Can someone please?   Thank you!

    Hello @LindaGrace,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that since to add a password to your wireless router your HP Officejet Pro 8500 has e-All-in-One Printer not communicate wirelessly with your computer Mac OS X 10.9. I would like to help you today with this problem of wireless communication.

Now, make a change to your network, as an addition to a password or change a password, translates into having to reconfigure your printer on the wireless network. At this point your printer is to be 'blocked' access to your network wireless because of the change you made. To correct this problem, you simply raise the Setup wireless for your printer to "say" the printer network name and password. Once the wireless installation runs successfully all will continue to work for you according to the normal.

To run the Wireless Setup Wizard on your printer, please follow the steps below.

    1. On the touch screen of the printer, press the right arrow key () to display the second navigation screen.
    2. Press network () to open the network Menu.
    3. Touch Wireless.
    4. Press the Wireless Setup Wizard, and then press continue.
    5. Please wait while the printer is looking for the routers that are nearby. Appears in the menu Select Network (SSID) .
    6. Scroll the list of network names until you find the name of your network.
    7. Tap the name of your network.
    8. If you are prompted, enter the WEP or WPA key. This is the password for your wireless network. The password is case-sensitive.
    9. Wait for the printer to connect to the network

    -Source

Once your printer is connected to your network again, please try to print. If printing still fails, you need to add the printer to your Mac because of the connection of network new printers. Please follow the steps below to add the printer to the Mac.

    1. click on the menu of Apple , then Preferences System.

    2. click on Print & Scanand then check if the name of your printer appears in the printer list.

    3. If your printer is already listed, remove and re-add the printer to check the communication with the Mac. Click on the name of your printer, click the minus sign (), and then delete the printer

    4. click on the plus sign (), click Add a printer or a Scanner, click the name of your printer

    5. click Add to add the printer to the list.

Now that the printer is properly configured on your network and added to the Mac, please try again to print wireless.

Please reply to this message with the result of your troubleshooting. Good luck!

  • I don't have a place to uncheck "use printer offline"

My printer is offline - it's a jet of HP pro 8500 wireless desktop. I have Windows 7 Home premium. Each supposed to answer uncheck 'use printer offline' BUT I don't have that option when I right click on my default printer.

    Hi Canufixit2

I would say to post this question on the forum Windows 8 rather than Win 7 one if you are looking for more answers ;)

Suggestion above (to check on both computers):

    • Click Start, point to settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Services.
    • On the list of services , click the remote procedure (RPC) call Serviceand then click Startup.
    • Under Startup Type, click Automatic, and then click OK.

    d. do the same for the print spooler service

    e. is your network discovery service works as well (if not is not implemented as noted above)

    I hope this helps.

  • HP Officejet pro 8500 a prints the endless stream of white leaves unordered with a character on them

My HP Officejet Pro 8500 worked until about 2 weeks ago (it's around the age of 3 months).  He started printing constantly (a period that some documents are sent to the printer - I want to be clear, that is not in what concerns the documents ORDERED from any of the computers).  It prints a sheet of paper with a D in the first place of character in the upper left corner, then spit out the paper.  It keeps going until it is out of paper.  The only way to stop it is 1) turn off 2) continue to press the button "Cancel printing" (every 5-10 seconds) or 3) taking the paper.  Of course, it's annoying because while he was in fact trying to print a document (which comes out fine), it must load the fresh paper and lose several pieces so that the printer continues it's freak out before you print our document ORDERED.

Spent nearly 2 1/2 hours on technical support yesterday - it took 2 hours to MAKE IT CLEAR that the printer was PRINTING ON it's OWN.  Technology has always tried to "correct" the documents I feel (which are very GOOD, as I said).  Finally, I was told that a technician at a higher level should remember-, but looking at it through the forums, it seems that it's an empty promise and no point in waiting for assistance.

    Any suggestions?

Well, as usual with something technical, my trip was winding and fraught with frustration.  After my post yesterday, I found some other threads containing possible responses.  Thanks, PrintDoc, for your suggestion and I'm sorry but I didn't see in time to try it.  Although I did reset hard on the printer (disconnect while it was expected from one day to the next, then re - plug inside), who had not helped.  The tech had me also unplug the printer, press 16 times, then re - plug again.  These patches did nothing.   Here is what happened:

See another post about printer problems, the solution was to change the printer port - so I started with that.  I had the printer ports pose problems with previous HP printers, so it seemed a reasonable solution.  Unfortunately, it did not work.  Worse still, it took my printer on the network somehow.  However, the printer still showed that it was connected 'Wireless' (geen light was on, the report states that all was fine)- but the router could not find the printer and the printer would not print.  ARGGGGHHH!

Then, I tried to re - install the printer.  Although the installation is complete, the printer still wasn't on the network.  I tried to play with the ports - nothing helped.

Meanwhile, the printer is spitting out unwanted documents.  As a last resort, I put the network on the default printer settings, just to see that if the pages continued to out - they did!  So: I thought it wasn't a network issue, but a printer problem.

Just like I was losing my mind, the advanced technology of HP called me back (as I was promised by the previous technology the day before).  He said that it was probably a problem of firmware inside the printer and take back to the store and exchange it.  I did (fortunately I had an extended warranty - printer is old and 2 months off the day 30 store the warranty period).  I got the printer at Office Depot and they were VERY nice about exchanging (plug for Office Depot here!).

I brought the printer home, set up (as you know, that takes a WHILE) and then had to run to an appointment in the evening.  I left, I tried the Test Page and it printed.  But I didn't count this trip as finished!  When I got home, the printer was quiet - no unwanted pages - everything was going well.  However, as I started dinner, I heard it starts... I ran into the office and - Yes - you guessed it - more unwanted pages!

OK - NEW printer - NEW set up - it was quiet while we were GONE from the House.  WHAT has changed?  I ran through the possibilities in my mind - I was sure I had checked the print spools all the computers in the House, but my son came from is on his computer.  I caught and checked the "Printers" section  Of course, our OLD printer was installed on his system and was probably spoil a new.  Nothing in the spool printing, but the port was likely the same.  In any case, I deleted the old printer and ALTO - him spewing pages not desired STOPPED!

Why pages continued to get out even after I took the printer offline?  Probably because so many FAKE "impressions" that had built they had not come out yet.  But of course it was not obvious at the time.

Problem solved with just a little detective work.  YAY!

I hope this helps someone else out there!

I have a printer Canon MF-4800. Fine prints of the internet from my wifes HP computer. My HP Pavilion 17 is connected to the printer. Print a page of test ok. • HP8620: Printer offline, Windows 10, worked fine until a few days ago

I have a wired network printer, HP8620.  In the last few days, every time I turn on my laptop (HP spectrum), also connected by wire to the network printer is offline - it will not be printed.

Reports HP print and utility Scan doctor that the printer is offline, but Microsoft Word and other applications do not, print saying the printer is offline. I can solve the problem by turning the printer off and on again.

I've seen suggestions that it is a problem of SNMP status, but when I go to the printer properties, Ports and select "Configure Port", I get an error message "an error occurred during port configuration", "this operation is not supported", so I can't uncheck SNMP, as suggested elsewhere.  Any ideas?
