  • Visible instead of the asterisks stored password

    On my site when an account/password is stored by FireFox, whenever the page load the password appears in plain text no asterisks.

    It is a feature of the browser or are need of changes in the elements of the form on the Web page?

    If 2 or more passwords are stored by Firefox fields in the form are not met by default.

    The DOMi shows that there are two input elements for the password field, and if you set the focus to the password field then the two get exchanged through JavaScript code (you get display: inline and other display: no). Also a class = 'focus' is added to the actual #password field.

    Firefox will probably store false data entered in the input fields as form data saved, but I don't think that whatever this should either get entered in the fields false, but I do not know how the code of the profile manager would respond to this swap.

    There is this code in the main.js file

                if((inputs[i].type == "text" || inputs[i].type == "password") && inputs[i].className.indexOf(o.filterClass)) {
                    inputs[i].valueHtml = inputs[i].value;
                    inputs[i].onfocus = function ()	{
                        if(this.valueHtml == this.value) this.value = "";
                        if(this.fake) {
                            inputsSwap(this, this.previousSibling);
                            this.previousSibling.focus();
                        }
                        if(o.addClassFocus && !this.fake) {
                            this.className += " " + o.addClassFocus;
                            this.parentNode.className += " parent-" + o.addClassFocus;
                        }
                    }
                    inputs[i].onblur = function () {
                        if(this.value == "") {
                            this.value = this.valueHtml;
                            if(o.passwordFieldText && this.type == "password") inputsSwap(this, this.nextSibling);
                        }
                        if(o.addClassFocus) {
                            this.className = this.className.replace(o.addClassFocus, "");

                        }
                    }
                    if(o.passwordFieldText && inputs[i].type == "password") {
                        var fakeInput = document.createElement("input");
                        fakeInput.type = "text";
                        fakeInput.value = inputs[i].value;

  • Firefox on this PC doesn't remember stored passwords. You can check the "remember box" several times, but each time is like the first. Any ideas?

    Firefoox 8.0
    Windows Vista

    Websites to remember you and automatically log you on are stored in a cookie.

    • Create a cookie exception allow (Tools > Options > privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such cookies, especially for sites Web secure and if the cookies expire when Firefox is closed.

    Make sure that you run not Firefox in private browsing mode.

    Do not use clear recent history to erase "Cookies" and "Site preferences".

    Compensation of the "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, windows pop up, installation of software and passwords.

  • Whenever FF is updated, I lose all my stored passwords.

    This has happened for some time, perhaps since version 6.
    I don't use a master password with the password manager.
    I do not use FF Sync. HP Pavilion a1747c with Windows Vista.

    Do you hear the names and passwords in the password manager or do you mean that you are connected is no longer on to (remember to) Web sites after the closing and restarting Firefox?

    There is a difference between remembering the name and the password in the password manager and a check box "remember me" on a web page.

    The latter usually involves the creation of a special "remember me" cookie that is stored on your computer and which is sent to the server.

    If that "remember me" cookie is deleted or is corrupted or is not send to the server, then the server remember that you and you must connect once again.

  • How to remove or reset stored passwords for FTP site to Windows Explorer (Win XP)

    In fact I use Windows XP but I couldn't find a forum for this more.

    I have an FTP site, that I need to access regularly and his user name and password was stored for Windows Explorer could open it without asking for confirmation.  The user name & password have changed.  I deleted all the entries in my neighborhood network for the FTP site.  Still, he connects with the former name of user and password (UN/pw).  Access to this account is paralyzed, so I can't use it, but it get connected and so I know that he uses this UN/pw.  I tried to use the URL: ftp://user: * e-mail address is removed from the privacy * and it always goes back to the old UN/pw.  I don't want to delete all passwords that will allow 'Internet Options'.  How to clear it?

    Hi Kev,

    I had the same problem but with Win 7.  I got mine to work by looking for the FTP site in the registry and delete it.

    Run regedit

    Searched using EDIT , FIND , ftp.whatever.com , clicking SEARCH the NEXT

    (Found in HKEY_CURRENT_USER, Software, Microsoft, FTP accounts )

    Right click on the site FTP send me problems (ftp.whatever.com) and deleted.

    Closed regedit.

    Pulled up to Windows Explorer: problem solved.

    You might want to give that a try.

  • Clean stored passwords.

    Is there a place I can delete the passwords stored in my laptop? Reference Dell 1545 # Insperion with Windows Vista Edition Home Premium

    Thank you very much.

    Jim

    What you are referring is semi-automatic. If you want to get rid of all of them, follow the instructions above and remove the passwords and form data. This applies to Internet Explorer 8.

    If you just want to delete a single entry - that's you - move the mouse to highlight it and press Del or DELETE.

  • Is it possible to change the LOCATION of the stored passwords?

    I would like Firefox to store my passwords, but I don't like anyone can open just the browser to find all my data. Yes, I have a master password, but I know that is hard for anyone to go into the data files and decrypt the password files.

    What I would do:
    1. move the files key3db and logins.json on a flash drive. Or the whole if absolutely necessary profile
    2. change where Firefox pulls the passwords of my flash drive
    3. at the end of the account it will be able to remember my password if my drive is connected

    For a quick Q + A:
    1. I need to move just two files, mentioned above, or the entire profile folder?
    2. which file running Firefox at the current location of password, in the AppData folder? CAN I / should I change that?
    3. is it possible?

    I am currently using Firefox 37.0.2, running on Windows 7.
    I'm not well versed technical jargon, but I am reasonably competent.
    Please let me know if you need more information.

    It is possible to move your passwords, but it is difficult (and note, this is only a problem if someone has access to your computer, in which case they would be more likely to use a keylogger and gather all your keystrokes in this way, you'll have more great concern).

    If you are very worried about it, then I suggest using something like lastpass which stores your passwords in a database encrypted in the cloud and only pulls them down when you open a session.

  • Improved from 3.6 to 8. Firefox 8 keeps wiping my stored passwords and sign-ons. I continue to add their return (file signons3.txt & sign). In addition, private browsing does not work. I press the button and nothing happens.

    I have replace the signons3.txt and signons.sqlite with older files that I saved. They work the first time I launch Firefox 8, but if I quit and then re-open the browser, they are dashed again

    Also, when I click on "private browsing", nothing happens. No warning screen. He's right there.

    I'm on Vista Home premium. Use Firefox and Thunderbird a number of years. Never had a problem.

    Make sure that you are not Firefox running in permanent private browsing mode.

    To view the history settings and cookies, choose:

    • Tools > Options > privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: use the custom settings for the story of
    • Uncheck the box: [] "always use the navigation mode private.

    Start Firefox in Firefox to solve the issues in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > appearance/themes).

    Create a new profile as a test to see if your profile is the source of the problems.

    See "basic troubleshooting: a new profile:

    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "tools > Modules > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

    If this new profile works then you can transfer files from the old profile to the new profile, but make sure not to copy corrupted files.

  • Upgraded to the new version of firefox and lost all my passwords stored, can it be fixed?

    Has given the green light to upgrade Firefox to the latest version, to realize that all stored passwords were no longer available.
    Can I restore these passwords?

    Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/tools > Modules > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is the cause of the problem.

    • Put yourself in the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/tools > Modules > appearance
    • Do NOT click on the reset button on the startup window Mode safe

    You need a (backup) copy of the files logins.json and key3db to retrieve the passwords if you current copies are lost or corrupted.

  • Firefox does not ask me to change a password stored in the local password database when I change it to a HTTP SVN repo that authenticates via LDAP

    Access to multiple repositories served via HTTP SVN. Authentication is done via LDAP. Firefox is able to save passwords for pop up dialog boxes provided by the SVN server for authentication. Periodically, I change my password for LDAP in Active Directory. When I access the SVN rest once again, I have change the password is entered in the dialog box, but Firefox do not ask me to update. Earlier (FF 3.x), Firefox asked me to update the password in the stored passwords. With FF 7.0.1 it does not prompt me for that and retains the old password.

    Original description:

    Let's say that I kept the password for some sites. As time goes by, I change the password on this site. Now, the next time I connect, password manager offers to enter my old information. I type in my password and enter the site. Earlier (FF 3.x), Firefox asked me to update the password in the stored passwords. With FF 7.0.1 it does not prompt me for that and retains the old password.

    OK, I feel like a fool. Turns out that the HTTP Server was in the list of exceptions, but under his own 192.168.X.X IP address rather than the hostname of our SVN server resolved internally. I missed which I was looking for the host name. Once I removed the IP address of the exceptions list entry, the problem has been resolved.
