I can start my F30 since an external floppy drive?

I use Norton Ghost to clone a copy of my hard drive on my PC for disaster recovery and requires a m/c boot hard disk when I use Ghost. I want to do the same thing on my F30 but have no idea if I can configure the F30 to boot from an external floppy drive. If possible can someone please tell me how to change the boot sequence, as I have not any experience based laptops. Thank you very much.

Hello

I use Norton Ghost 2003, and I am very satisfied. It works under windows and you can create the image file on the second partition or even create DVDs of recovery immediately without using floppy. I can recommend it just for you.

Back to your question: with your Qosmio model, you can use the floppy with follow-up part number PA3109U-3FDD drive. If I remember correctly, you can press the U button just after switching on the unit and the unit should start using floppy drive as first boot device.

A TC is now and for always player network... no external. So there are limits to its use.

If you are multitasking your TC with Time Machine and then using a DMG file as a virtual drive is better than directly copy files... However sharing becomes impossible. One person at a time can open the DMG.

    See pondini. T3 http://pondini.org/TM/Time_Capsule.html

Old but still interesting to read.

You can certainly create a folder on the TC and copy your files on it, and then perform a search. Research is slow on wireless is so the speed of transfer of large files. With the help of ethernet is certainly encouraged to desktop computers.

Sharing folders on the TC is also now more difficult with increasing security at El Capo and OS later. You do not create on the computer records are not available. And even the ones you create can occasionally and autonomous change permissions (since the TC controls drive not the computer), you lock your own files on... I answer these questions once a week.

Not all software on Mac supports using network drives. The most difficult is photos that can corrupt the library due to disconnections... which are the most common wireless. Be warned backups are important and not easy to do because of the slowness of the USB port on the TC and you end up really need to another location on the network for backup on.

Generally, I advise the people not not to use the TC for direct files... That is to say, if you edit a document, make sure that it is on a local drive... When you have finished the document, you can copy it to the network drive and delete the local version. Easy for... not so easy documents for photos with major libraries.

A TC cannot save itself and Time Machine backup impossible network drives... This means that no backup will be your files in the TC, unless you take the initiative and do it.

  • How can I get my computer my external USB drive (portfolio) after that I repeatedly get the message that the device "can not be removed?

Original title: I need a market to resolve the problem remove the instrument.

How can I get my computer my external USB drive (portfolio) after that I repeatedly get the message that the device "can not be removed? I have closed all other programs and waited for varying amounts of time, and tried all of the fixes that have been proposed on this site. Nothing works. I don't want to turn off the computer whenever I have to remove the device.

I can't know what "all patches" you've tried, but:

Make sure that the system restore does not monitor the external drive.  SR does need to control the system drive and to the system drive, SR has only about 1 GB of space max.  Make a right click my computer and select properties then the System Restore tab to configure SR.

Make sure that the Indexing Service is turned off (at least for the external drive).  To disable disk indexing completely, which will also speed up your computer a bit, see http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp.  For the external drive, right-click on the drive icon in my computer, select properties and uncheck the indexing disc

There are different workarounds short to shut down the computer, but you might want to try this third-party app first:
    http://safelyremove.com/index.html  Among other features:

The device cannot be stopped now. Why? Never encountered the situation when Windows does not allow you to remove a device? Unlike Windows, USB remove will show you programs which prevent the device to be stopped and let you close these programs or just files that they opened on the device.

Origignal title: problems with EXTERNAL FLOPPY DRIVE

I have a floppy drive external that I don't use that occasionally (supporting my sewing machine) - I use it to transfer files digitiezed to my sewing machine.  It worked fine until after a recent Ms updates, now I can not work at all and I tried to reinstall the current drivers and I get an error message that the floppy drive must be formatted before using, I try to format it and it errors and says it can not be formatted.  If the device is recognized, but there seems to be a problem with the communication and the operating system.  I know WIN7 users encounter the same problem, but I have Vista...  Help, please!

    Hi Sylvia,.

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community!

You have reached the right forum. Let us work as a team and try to solve this problem.

If I understand correctly, the external floppy drive does not work on the Windows Vista-based computer.

    We defer the following methods:

Method 1: Run the following fix - it:

Hardware devices do not work or are not detected in Windows:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems/en-us

Method 2: Check drive for errors.

Check your hard drive for errors:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/check-your-hard-disk-for-errors

Important: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the disk hard when chkdsk attempts to repair this area if all available on which data can be lost.

I have CS5 on my laptop. I lost the installation cd. Can I save CS5 on an external hard drive to reinstall?

Moving to download, installation, setting up

Please see the installer direct download: Download Adobe Creative Suite 5 products

You can download it whenever you want and run the installer.

  • Since I downloaded El Capitan I think I can't paste it into my external hard drive.  I use to download my card reader, copy it, and then download to a new folder on the external drive.  It will not work now and nor can I create new folders on the hard dr

I used to download pictures from a card reader, copy them, and then stick it on my external hard drive.  Since El Capitan of download, it does not work - I can download and copy, but can not stick to the external hard drive.  I can't set up the files on the external hard drive either.  However, I can download what is already on the external hard drive without any problem.

How the external drive is formatted?

  • How can I move all my images Lightroom 5 25 000 since an external hard drive on an internal drive (ssd) on a mac?

I have all my image files from Lightroom (LR) on an external hard drive that is complete and has been too slow in use.

I want to keep my existing LR but catalog to move ALL images, etc. on my laptop with ssd quick nice previews.

    How?

    Any suggestions?

This should be really basic information but I searched through pages and pages of comments, tutorials, videos, books, but doomed if I see a relevant clear explanation anywhere!

I copied all the folder containing everything for my portable drive.

But when I opened LR I get no option to locate images, folder etc.

When I open the new folder on my laptop drive I can see all the content but .lrcat items are not selectable.

    What I am doing wrong?

    The process should be:

Move photos in their existing folder structure to the new hard drive.

Move the catalog as well as the catalogname Previews.lrdata folder settings folder in a folder on the new hard drive.

Double-click the catalogname.lrcat file to open it in LR.

Right-click on the files in LR-library level and make a lack of find file (or whatever the phrase is) and LR to say where is the folder is now on the new hard drive.

You say there is no option to find missing in LR library files when you right click on one of the folders in the left panel?

  • I can run vista windows on an external hard drive?

Hi I was wondering if I could run windows vista Home premium (64 bit) on an external hard drive...

and how would I do it?

I was reading around and found some info that said that I need to start from the main internal drive, but I think that my internal drive has some errors and im not sure how long it will last... Although I did have too much problems with it since my last restore full on a month and half ago.

any suggestions or steps I must take to be able to do this?

I don't think that this is possible. It is possible to install/boot from a HDD external bootable with some revisions minor http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/07/15/how-to-install-windows-7-or-vista-from-bootable-portable-usb-flash-memory-key-or-hard-disk-drive/ (assuming that your BIOS supports this)-say if your CD/DVD has not, recovery or reinstallation, but it is not the same as Vista from the external HARD drive.  I think the biggest problem is the drivers who won't be loaded until the Windows startup and Windows could not start without the USB already loaded if it was located on an external USB drive (and the other drivers as well) and there may be some problems with the boot files.  There may be other issues - I think XP and Vista are INTENTIONALLLY DESIGNED to work this way (for reasons of piracy among others)...

I read a post from Carey Frisch MVP, who says flatly that it cannot be done.  Here is an article on the topic which also categorically states that it cannot be done with XP or Vista http://computer-drives-storage.suite101.com/article.cfm/can_you_boot_from_external_hard_disk_drive.

I read a few articles that say it's possible with XP using the appropriate BIOS and a whole bunch of changes in the registry (changes that have not been identified), but I frantly in doubt.  Too many other articles argue against it.  In addition, it would be MUCH slower (no matter how fast the hard disk) due to the method of connection - you do not use this way on a daily basis.

Many of the dismantled external when hard drives are compaatible with and will fit inside the computer case and work as internal drives - maybe you can try that as an alternative (assuming that you do not want to buy another drive HARD internal for now).

To test your hard drive, check the manufacturer and then get the diagnostic utility of: http://www.techsupportforum.com/hardware-support/hard-drive-support/302602-hard-drive-diagnostic-utilities.html.  If she failed the test, replace it.  If she passes the test, then it's probably nothing wrong with it.  You can also run chkdsk /f /r from the elevated command prompt and see what happens - happens to you lots of bad sectors and a lot of corruption, then it is time to replace the drive before it will totally fail...

I hope this helps (although it is probably not the answer you were hoping for).

    Good luck!

  • I can't get my new WD external hard drive to work with Time Machine.

My Seagate 1 TB external hard drive, connected to my Airport Extreme, use the USB port, was completed (it stores up to 3 1 iMac and MBP), so I bought a Western Digital 2 TB hard drive to replace it. I formatted correctly, connected to my MBP, then connected to the Airport Extreme. When I opened the time Machine, it didn't appear. By selecting "Set up the new TimeCapsule" open Airport utility. By clicking on the router button gave me change. By clicking on the "Record" button showed my new hard drive. The "setup" button is grayed out, unless I unchecked and double-checked all of the options. He warned me that I would be offline for a while, but it did nothing; My wife MBP and MBP my son not a never lose their connection to the internet, and I lose mine, either.

My Mac guy, who never met a problem he couldn't fix it, is puzzled. So I am. We tried all the usual ideas, restart my MBP, restart the Airport Extreme, reformat the external hard drive, with different numbers of partitions (and Yes, I chose the GUID), but we can not simply Time Machine to connect with the hard drive. It is a Western Digital My Passport Ultra. This external hard drive is not compatible with Time Machine?

What version is your AE? Backup is supported only on the sector of Tower model.

You are self feeding Ultra Passport? It really must be external powered... or plugged into a powered hub.

My passport readers have been consistent in the past... but sometimes strange things... That is, they can change the USB chip without warning, resulting in questions. The USB hub can help.

There is also something... Plug the USB key into one of your computers and start backup TM on this... proceed very long... but we need to start... Cancel backup... and then plug it into AE and see what happens.

  • Starting from installation, recovery - on - external hard drive

Computer: Gateway MD2614u laptop, AMD Turion X 2 64-bit processor, designed for Windows Vista

External hard drive: WD My Book Essentials (surrounded by Western Digital 500 GB drive external hard)

Background: laptop was dropped, crushed physically the internal hard drive, all other aspects of the laptop appear to be in working condition.

Vista says: Windows Setup cannot install another USB or IEEE 1394 device.

It is important to note that the external drive is a SATA.  ALSO that there is NO hard drive internal to the computer right now.

I pulled the drive from its casing and place in my desktop computer.  I have installed Vista in this way, and placed the disc in its case, confident, would solve the problem.  "The found operating system"

I wiped the drive and tried again, this time using my Windows 7 to format the drive make a primary partition active and used the WD SmartWare to disable the password on the external, as well as VCD (Virtual CD, which contains the software for backup on and retrieve the external hard drive) on the outside.  Then installed Vista back once again, the drive in the enclosure, and again, I got 'the operating system not found '.

I tried to use the "gateway recovery disc" the computer asked me to do immediately after I ran it the first time.  They have installed the Vista gateway on the external hard drive without any problem, the recovery software has taught me that I had to press OK to restart the computer, but again once 'the operating system not found"happens.  I advanced and rebooted the computer out of habit and that the computer starts in what concerns the loading of "microsoft" bar (the green bar moving left to right while loading vista), and then it restarted itself.  This new responsible for the 'green bar' and restarted again.

3 times I let him, then I placed the regular 64 bit Vista disc in the status bar and try a startup repair.  "Windows cannot resolve the problem, do you want to send the information to Microsoft" or something that nearby.

I then tried using the disk for 32-bit Vista in the same way.

32 bit Vista disc completed the repair, but now the 'green bar' vista loading screen comes up, runs for a few seconds, and then I get a quick flash of a blue screen, and until I can see what he says, the computer restarts.

    Help!

    Hello

This seems to be a hardware problem, so you may have to contact the manufacturer, follow the link given below to communicate with the gateway.

  • I can't find my external hard drive under 'Computer' but it appears in "Devices and printers" How can I access files on my external hard drive?

I can't find my external hard drive in "computer".

I just bougth a new HP computer running Windows 7.  I just copied a bunch of movie files, music and photo of my old Mac (OSX Leopard) on a Western Digital external hard drive.

I plugged the external drive in my HP via USB 2.0 on the front of the computer.  Windows recognizes the drive.  She appears in the Panel of external control/hardware and Sound/devices and printers as "HARD disk".

It does not appear in 'Computer' under 'devices with removable storage ".

I just want to get to my files so I can copy them to my new computer.  How to access my files on the external hard drive?  Why isn't he appear in 'computer '?

    Hello ShamedMonkey,

Thank you for your message.  The problem you are having is because of differences in formatting between PC and Mac.  You can, however, transfer your files between the two.  I will set out what must be done under and limitations of each.
First, you will need to format the drive on your PC.  When you format the PC, you can format it in FAT32 or NTFS.
(You mentioned that you do not see the drive in the computer) To format drive:
Click 'Start' > right click on 'Computer' > select 'manage '.
    Click on "disk management".
In the right pane, you should see your drive > you can then do a right click and 'format '.
    FAT32:
This format will allow you to easily transfer files between the two.  This format becomes problematic when you transfer files more than 4 G.  There is a limit of 4 GB in FAT32, etc. of many movies are bigger than that and cannot be transferred using this format.
    NTFS
This format has no size limitation, however, in its normal state it will be 'Read only' on Mac.  If you will not be able to transfer all the data itself.  While doing some research on the web, it seems that you can use a program called MacFuse on your Mac to change to NTFS files.  I have not confirmed this, but you can give it a try.  If this program works as planned, it would be the way to go.
Please let us know if it did or did not solve your problem.
    See you soon

  • How can I run iTunes on an external hard drive?

    Hello

I like to keep all my music on an external hard drive.  How can I have iTunes on my desktop iMac 'search' or 'find' my music on this external drive library, rather than import all about my native drive on mac?

Launch iTunes with the Option key and choose a library on it or create an it.

  • Hi I'm looking to upgrade my iMac 2007 to a MacBook Pro that I can keep the iMac as an external hard drive is so how?

WWhat should I do to keep all my photos and music files without having to complete my new mac book

You can keep your iMac, but this isn't a very effective solution, if you just want to use it for storage. Sell and buy two external hard drives, one for extra storage and the other for a Time Machine backup drive that I speculate that you have not.

With the drive connected, open iTunes. Click the file menu and organize the library.

To give the control is a two-step process. Take ownership and then to give permissions.

Owner of a file allows the owner to change permissions even if they do not have the authorization to do so. It's the only thing that made property. The person who creates an object owns the object. For admins, the objects that are created are the property of administrators, not the individual.

You need start exploring as administrator to Start - All Programs - Accessories - made Windows Explorer right click and choose run as administrator.

You must therefore make a right-click folders / drive, you are interested in tick - button Properties - Security - Advanced button - property - Edit - Replace owner on Sub containers and objects tab - select one user-then Ok your way of out.

Right-click new - folder Properties - Security - Advanced - tab permissions - Edit button - select the account - check the two checkboxes - button - Advanced - Search now button Add button - select your tick - Ok button - total control in the list. OK your way out.
