This is a complete scam and one that has become very common these days. . Don't think anything such a caller said, do nothing that he tells you to do and hang up on him immediately.

At let them into your computer? If you did you are at serious risk for what they could have done it (installed spyware? Identity theft? Steal the passwords?), and I highly recommend that you do the two following:

    1 reinstall Windows properly

    2. change all your passwords, especially those of the financial institutions and online stores.

  • I get a message to call system administrater is this you? It says that I have a virus

I ran 3 times windows Defender. I even downloaded the avg program to rid the virus and uninstalled. I had this day adds arise and snapdo. They seem to all have disappeared except some adds keep popping up and I get the message above to call in. Someone wants to connect with my computer to run a diagnosis, but don't tell me who they work for except that they support the windows service. I did not go to them. The window with the phone number and call especially message had the logo of firefox at the top. Please advise as soon as possible.

Mozilla does not support. Some private companies advertise on Google that they offer support for Firefox, Windows or other software. They are not associated with Mozilla.

  • I would like to completely remove the nightly build of firefox. I searched for this info already and you have not found anything that could help. I am pretty new to linux. I am currently running ubuntu 11.10

I'm just trying to remove every night of my computer. I deleted firefox 10 already. I'm going down to firefox 4, but before I do, I want every night of my computer and it is not listed in the Installer package synaptic or any other. There's a reason I want the old version of firefox, but I won't get into that right now. It is a totally different matter. But I'm pretty new to linux, so please try to give directions or answers in a way that I will be able to understand if possible. Thank you for your time.

10 a 1 of Firefox is an older version (Aurora/Nightly) alpha.

Is this a version that you have installed yourself from the Mozilla server or is this a version from the repositories of Ubuntu?

In the latter case, you will need to use the installation and remove the item from your Linux distribution software.

If you have installed Firefox yourself, then you can simply delete the Firefox installation directory.

  • If someone calls and tells me to see computer management have I been hacked?

    Q

Do not give what you have.  You are well.

Nobody's-going to start the call with you on your computer.  Just like everything else you want to fixed - you have either had to implement this personally prior with the knowledge they would call you if there are problems (as a residential - and even security system then it will be a password or a way to prove that all stakeholders should be involved) or you will need to bring things to be considered.

  • When I close Firefox there is a picture behind my browser has it been hacked?

Just a ghost Image when I close FF... Every thing is up to date and I tried everything knows how to fix it but no luck!

    What is in this picture?

Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration?

    • Tools > Options > advanced > General > Browsing: "use hardware acceleration when available.

Have you tried updating your graphics display driver?

  • I have been hacked.

    Preliminary remarks:

I'm not expert ESXi. I put the server to tinker.  I'm a Windows Guy.

Is not a production company, but it's in a hardened environment.

No one else has physical access or remote (so I thought) for this box.

It is not on the internet.

root password was not in dictionaries.

What I want to know is:

    I was really hacked?

Should what records I look?  (SSH is not on BTW)

    Without SSH how to newspapers?

    Facts:

My Console now just says "Hey!"

    esx1.JPG

    Nothing seems to be deleted.

I can't do anything from the console. Root... still says Hey.

I can use the vSphere client.

I've changed the root password and shut down all systems that I got to the top.  I guess one of the virtual machine has been compromised, and that's how the hacker (if this is the case) has got access to the internal network (reverse telnet or something). It is a segment of firewall and there is nothing sent to this system from the Internet.

    Information on the post:

I am posting this as a learning experience for me and others. I do not know I did something stupid. I was going to just to rebuild the system (will do this anyway), but that this network has nothing of value that I didn't destroy all newspapers, I can learn from.  I got lucky... It is just a test lab.

    Welcome to the community,

don't worry, you have not been hacked. What you see, is the "Annotations.WelcomeMessage" which can by configured in "Configuration"-> "Advanced settings".

I have Windows 7 and I was wondering if there was a version of Firefox called "Nightly"? The type of a Nightly.Ink file. Also, whenever I open 'Nightly' now, I get a popup of the program update and it says "update.exe". Is this a part of Firefox "Nightly" or is this a virus? Please answer this so I can relax. My email is [email protected]

Every night (a1) and (a2) Aurora built updated every day, so if you use such a developer version you will see an update every day (sometimes more than once a day in the case of a respin). These alpha versions are more intended to be experienced testers, because you may experience stability and regression of the questions at any time. The beta version (currently Firefox 25) can be useful for testing Web sites to see if they're going to get broken in the next Firefox release and file a bug report, if necessary.

Note that you must always install such version of development alongside a stable version and use a separate profile for each version folder.

  • How can I get rid of Yahoo Search. If you do not have an answer that really works, I have to get rid of Firefox!

Simple enough... I want to kill Yahoo search and never see him again!

Unless there is interference from external software or an add-on, Firefox to remember your preferences for your default search engine and can hide the Yahoo Search bar icon. The real Yahoo search engine plugin (XML file) is located in the Firefox program folder and will be restored whenever you update Firefox, so it is not used that much by physically removing.

As Jon mentioned previously, you can select your default search engine and hide the buttons "one-off" undesirable in the dialog box Preferences here (either):

    • '3-bar' menu > Preferences > search
    • Firefox menu > Preferences > search

Now, why would this setting may not be honored? Check if you have picked up additional modules Spigot or a pipe or other elements of mystery. You can open the page modules using either:

    • Command + shift + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click on Plugins. Here you can set the non-recognized or non-essential plugins 'Never turn on'.

In the left column, click Extensions. Here, you can disable and remove unwanted or unrecognized extensions often.

Often, a link will appear above at least an extension disabled to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links in the last step.

Note: If you got these add-ons in your Firefox, see if you can find how they got on your system. Usually, they accompany something "free" you downloaded and installed, sometimes disclosed and sometimes hidden, and if you don't clean that , too, your Firefox problem may return.

You can use the SearchReset extension to reset preferences to default values.

Note that the SearchReset extension runs only once and then uninstalls automatically, so it will not appear on the page "> Firefox Add-ons" (topic: addons).

Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.

The user.js file is present than if you or another software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be here.
You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: open with) If you do not create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

Delete a possible user.js file and files numbered prefs-# .js and rename (or delete) the file prefs.js to reset all the prefs by default, including the prefs set via user.js and pref which is no longer supported in the current version of Firefox.

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder currently in use:

  • I've tried everything. How can I recover my favorites IE M - Z, which have not been transferred to Firefox

Only half (A - L) my old favorites of Internet Explore (Firefox Bookmarks) have been transferred, when I switched from IE to Firefox yesterday. Is there a way to recover M - Z? I have a bunch. Check the answer as simple as you can because I'm not too tech savvy. Thank you.

If there are problems with importing IE bookmarks in Firefox, then export favorites in Internet Explorer to a HTML file and import this file in the Firefox Bookmarks Manager.

If you don't have the menu bar in Internet Explorer, and then right-click on the toolbar above to activate the menu bar.

    • Export Favorites in Internet Explorer to a file (bookmarks.html) HTML:
         File > Import and Export

    • Import HTML file in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import Bookmarks from HTML

See "Import from another browser" and "import from file":

When Firefox is set to zero, then a new profile is created and some of your data (Favorites, history, cookies, passwords, data form) is imported automatically your current profile will be moved on the desktop (old data of Firefox).
You will lose the extensions and other customizations (toolbars, Pref.) that you have made.

It is possible to recover more data from the old profile, but be careful to avoid transporting on the problem.
