I replace 3 GB memory of 8 GB and do a 'custom' installation of Win 7 from 32 bit to 64 bit. Should I install the memory before installing Win 7 or after?

I currently have VISTA 32 - bit OS (SP 2) on a gateway FX - 541S; Intel Core 2 Quad processor Q6600 (2.40 GHz, 1066 Hz FSB, 8 MB cache); 3072 MB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM and a 700 w power supply.  I have Office 2007, which is probably the 32-bit, so it seems I have to upgrade to Office 2010.

Better do you after installing. Once installation is complete, then turn off and put in new RAM. Check the properties of the computer to see if the 8 GB is used (chances are that Windows 7 hardware reserves some of the memory). And you don't have to upgrade to 64 - bit for the Office, 32-bit applications are compatible with 64-bit Windows in most cases. Only difference is that 64-bit applications have been designed for 64-bit Windows, so performance will be better (you may not notice it however).

  • BSOD on install of Windows 7 after hard drive crash

I have a HP Dv7 with Intel i7 and 8 GB memory. About 3 years.

Recently, I lost my hard drive to a physical failure. I bought a 120 GB SSD as the principal and a 1 TB drive 7200 RPM as the secondary to be replaced. I ordered the HP restore kit to reinstall Windows 7, but each installation stops at "loading drivers" step and gives me a BSOD. I tried to remove the SSD drive and using only the hard drive, but the same results. Also tried to do a clean install of Windows 7 with an ISO image to a bootable USB key. The same problem. I also tried swapping the primary/secondary locations for readers.

Nothing I have tried seems to work. I'm desperate for a solution! Why would I get a BSOD on a reinstallation of the software factory?

I am trying install Windows 7 without SP1 to see if that works, but have no chance. What else can I try? What I have to install Windows 8 to work with the new hard drive or SSD? »

I tried to restore 4 times (3 hours + per attempt). I tried the clean install of Windows 7 SP1 at least 10 times, each of them do not reach the exact spot. Windows won't INSTALL, so that steps can be taken?

As I posted earlier, I had problems with installing Windows 7 on my laptop HP Pavilion Dv7 after replacing a hard drive defective. I ordered the kit of training materials ($60) and the operating system of restoration kit (essentially Windows 7 and drivers) on a 4 disc set. I paid the extra money for all accelerated for me.

After you have installed a 120 GB SSD and the new 1 TB drive 7200 RPM, I tried to install the operating system using the DVD restore I ordered. Each installation took about 4 hours and each of the 3 times (i.e. 12 hours!) installation has failed at the end of the installation process. Then I downloaded a clean version of Windows 7 ISO and burned a bootable USB an attempt installs another 15, which also failed at the end of the installation process.

In desperation, I contacted HP support and was informed that I had to pay for technical support. I must say that I was really disappointed by HP and HP «each incident» support I spent $59 and 3 hours talk with some idiots in the new Delhli, who accompanied me through a few tests of BIOS of base no matter what 3-year-old could have understood, I sent them a picture of the BSOD and error code, and they arrived at their 'solution' to send me my laptop to HP for them to install a new hard drive and reinstall the operating system for the pittance of $200 and 7 to 9 days!

I refused their generous offer to relieve myself of the burden of $ 200 in my wallet and took the laptop to Fry when I bought it. After 15 minutes of discussion about my question, the tech told me that I needed to install the Intel drivers during the installation of Windows 7. He popped a USB key containing the Intel drivers, I've needed, continued with the installation of Windows 7, and I was back at home with a working machine within the hour. It cost me $35. A BARGAIN, given that HP, the company that BUILT my laptop was completely distraught about this problem and the only solution was to deprive me of my laptop for 9 days and during this time, charge me $200.

So to all who read this, please pay NOT for the HP "per incident" support. They are slightly educated idiots who know no more about the HP product than your typical 3 yr old child. For example, they suggested that the HP laptop in my possession was "very sensitive" and I wouldn't be able to put 'any hard disk that was not exactly to the same specification as that was in it from the factory'.  Idiots.

I you need to re - install Windows 7 on your laptop, visit the Intel website and download "floppy" (i.e. not the executable versions which self install) versions of their drivers for your laptop, load on a USB stick and when begins the installation of Windows 7 where it asks if you want to load the drivers, select the drivers on your USB key and installation will be smooth.

Again, how is it possible that HP and their support forums are not aware of the problem or the solution? Seriously. This is probably the last HP I buy. Just exhausting and annoying to deal with this.

  • How can I prevent the Win7 installing display drivers just after starting?

My main use of this particular computer is Microsoft's Flight Simulator X. It's a title 3-4 years and it works better on the 182.5 nVidia drivers than it does on the last drivers out there.

I just got an ATI card and I'm replacing a nVidia card. I uninstalled the ATI card, used Driver Sweeper in safemode and jumped in the nVidia card. Unfortunately, Windows installs a driver, I don't want to as soon as I get in windows.

I have disabled the Windows of any kind (temporarilly) updates, but it still happens. Searching on Google I found a solution that starts with-
    -Click Start
    -type in gpedit.msc entered press...

Unfortunately gpedit does not seem to be on my system, so it stops there.

I absolutely need the old version of this driver and there must be a clean install not on top of another driver so if anyone knows how to stop the auto install it please help. I spent far too much money on this sim card to be stopped by the present, and I don't want to go back to XP at this point.

    Thanks in advance,

Edit - Ok in another post here to solve another problem I've seen one person say to uninstall a driver, reboot and cancell the automatic installation of the new driver...

My problem is that I do not get the dialog box who says it's installing drivers or one that will allow me to stop the installation after I type my password and press enter (log in). After you have clicked on enter it is less than 10 seconds before a dialog box tells me that I must restart to complete the installation. Never thought that I would complain that my ' computer is too fast, LOL!

If I uninstall the video driver, start in safe mode, run driver Sweeper to get all the bits that are missed, restart back in safe mode I can again install the new drivers (older) then in safe mode? I've never tried something install with safe mode before, so I don't know if it is still possible or recommended.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated,

    Hello Samhrutha G,.

Thank you for your response. I think that your solution would work if Windows has never had the nVidia system driver, but because he did it (from when my settings were to allow updates) install regardless of my settings in the Windows Update settings. You see, I had (temporarilly) the value of this parameter to never to let Windows download and install updates but he ignored that (I tried with your settings too).

I think I found a solution, but I could be wrong in my understanding. This is my thoughts when you uninstall a video card driver and restart with no 3rd party drivers on your system, Windows uses its driver 'Standard VGA '. I'm not sure but I think that it is the State in which we look after using something like Driver Sweeper in safe mode. Just the driver VGA Standard, this way a clean install of 3 third-party drivers can be made.

What I did is to use Device Manager to access my VGA card and selected the option Update my driver from a list of drivers already on my system. It gave me the choice of GTX 275 nVidia Driver installation or driver VGA Standard. I chose the standard and restarted. After the restart he tried to update that I don't want, so that's good.

My next steps will be to start in safe mode, run Driver Sweeper to clean the remnants of the nVidia Driver, restart, leaving the sytem completely load and then reboot again. I wil then install the driver nVidia of my choice.

If I'm right that which users are usually trying to accomplish with the method Driver Sweeper is Windows just use is driver VGA Standard then I have all good and my card will work better than my old less powerful card (which is not currently the case). I think I'm right because Windows would need some kind of driver to display anything on the screen at all which I assume is his 'Standard VGA' driver.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong I typed all this out in the hope of helping others with the same question.

Thank you once again Samhrutha I thank you for taking the time to offer your help.

  • The purpose of doing a virus scan after Windows starts in safe mode?

I've heard some suggestions that, in certain circumstances, it is best to do a virus scan after Windows starts in safe mode. So I have two questions:

    (1) would what type of circumstances you perform a scan antivirus in safe mode?

    (2) what are the advantages or disadvantages?

I have found no reliable info that answers to these questions and would be grateful for any info, or even just a point in the right direction.

    Thank you!

    Hello

The advantage is that some process and services are not loaded in Mode without failure there is less chance
This malware can load and interfere with the process. The downside is the same if its best
to run the malware checks mode safe and then in Windows. Or run in Windows and as appropriate
difficult to remove malware is detected then run in Mode safe, then in Windows.

If you need search malware here's my recommendations - they will allow you to
scrutiny and the withdrawal without ending up with a load of spyware programs running
resident who can cause as many questions as the malware and may be more difficult to detect as the
    cause.

No one program cannot be used to detect and remove any malware. Added that often easy
to detect malicious software often comes with a much harder to detect and remove the payload. Then
its best to be thorough than paying the high price later now too. Check with them to one
extreme overkill point and then run the cleaning only when you are sure that the system is clean.

It can be made repeatedly in Mode safe - F8 tap that you start, however, you must also run
the regular windows when you can.

  • Again - the EULA allows to keep Windows XP after the installation and activation of a retail upgrade to Windows 7

The EULA allows to keep Windows XP after installation and activation of a retail upgrade to Windows 7?
I understand that the EULA (EULA) prohibits the USE of the operating system upgraded - must also be removed from the system?

I intend to upgrade a pre-installed Windows Media Center 2006 on a Gateway computer to a level of detail to Windows 7 Pro 64 - bit.  I am adding a new hard drive, as this case nears end of life... and plan to install the operating system upgraded to the new HD - because I have XP 32 bit to Win7-64 bit... and a "custom" installation is necessary, anyway.

This will result in an operating system XP on the old hard drive and the new OS Win7 Pro 64 - bit on the new drive.  There have been suggestions that the answer to this question is simply to remove the "old" operating system, after activating the 'new' Windows 7.  However - I see that any installation (or REINSTALLATION) of the operating system upgraded to Win 7 requires the previous XP to be "present on the computer.

QUESTION: as long as I don't 'USE' the BONE replaced/implemented to date, I am in compliance with the EULA?  Alternatively, do I install "over" this Windows Media Player OS - on the old, due to lack of hard drive?

The Media Center EULA States: «...» "15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After you upgrade, you can no longer use the software upgrade of. ... ', but is silent (as far as I can find by reading the EULA on the question of if software upgrade HAVE to be 'destroyed'.)

Thanks for your review (a reference to the appropriate Microsoft documentation would be nice too)

You said above, «...» "You will be able to upgrade to Windows XP, it is a qualification license... »

And I assume you are talking about my software Windows XP Media Center Edition (currently installed), as being a "qualification licence".

    That is right.

Are we in agreement that a copy preinstalled OEM of Windows XP Media Center Edition IS extendable with a 'detail' update the license for Windows 7?

His qualification, but you can't make a real room upgrade, you can do a custom installation. See the previous post on how to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7. An upgrade maintains the personal files, settings and installed applications.

I understand the ban on using the OEM OS software OR the upgrade replacement software on one computer other than the one on which it was originally installed by the OEM.

I also understand that I cannot use the "improved" XP Media Center software, once the upgrade of Windows 7 has occurred.

The rest to determine if it NEEDS to be deleted or replaced... you have no guidance on this issue?

Well, when you perform a custom installation, in essence, it is deleted or replaced. Then, it is part of the upgrade license. It's like it becomes a mind is more tangible, but always there as a base to which the upgrade license may exist on your system.

  • El Capitan will not install. Window disappears after pressing the button install.

    Hello world

Looks for some install help. I try to install El Capitan for my Mac Mini. Here are some features:

    Mac Mini (mid-2011)

    OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

    Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz

Question: El Capitan does not install anything after clicking on the button after choosing the drive. The window simply disappears and nothing happens.

I have read all the threads to locate the file "install OS X El Capitan", but it leads to the same question.

What other options can I here? I tried to create a new admin user to install the operating system, restarted my computer, re - download the file, etc..

I ran out of options here. Help, please!

Please launch the Console application in one of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first letters of his name in a Spotlight search. Select from the results (it should be at the top).

☞ In the Finder, select go utilities ▹ of menu bar or press the combination of keys shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.

The title of the Console window should be all Messages. If it isn't, select

SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ all Messages

in the list of logs on the left. If you don't see this list, select

List of newspapers seen ▹ display

in the menu at the top of the screen bar.

Click on the clear view icon in the toolbar. Then take an action that does not work the way you expect. Select all of the lines that appear in the Console window. Copy to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command + V.

The journal contains a large amount of information, almost everything that is not relevant to solve a particular problem. When you post a journal excerpt, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't dump blindly thousands of lines in the journal in this discussion.

Please do not post screenshots of log messages - text poster.

Some private information, such as your name or e-mail address, can appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

When you post the journal excerpt, an error message may appear on the web page: "you include content in your post that is not allowed", or "the message contains invalid characters." It's a bug in the forum software. Thanks for posting the text on Pastebin, then post here a link to the page you created.

If you have an account on Pastebin, please do not select private in exposure menu to paste on the page, because no one else that you will be able to see it.

  • Firefox will always be a way course surf the web using a Windows XP computer after that leaves Microsoft support Windows XP?

Windows XP is still my favorite operating system, but Microsoft will give up support in the coming days. If I understand correctly, shortly after which using Windows Internet Explorer to surf the web on a computer running Windows XP (or can) make the computer vulnerable to piracy. It will be the same for the use of Mozilla Firefox on a computer that is running Windows XP?
I think I saw an ad for Google Chrome with that they would continue to support the browser for use on a Windows XP computer. I think that Google said they would keep releasing patches to secure the Chrome. Can anyone confirm that and more importantly, is Mozilla Firefox secure? Also, should I uninstall Internet Explorer on my Windows XP computer when leaving Microsoft support?

Note - I am posting this with a newer computer that works under Windows 7 64-bit.

Firefox will continue to work with Windows XP. At best, in the near future, I could see the required configuration to encountered to Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (obligation is SP2 for now). Security in Firefox patches are the same, regardless of the version of Windows you are using.

Keep in mind that without security updates, the operating system itself will be precarious. What browser and software security that you use will not change.

Internet Explorer is a component of the system, and you should not attempt to remove it in Windows Vista and lower. From Windows 7, there's a way of kind of uninstall from the control panel.
