I want to disable my touchpad. Cursor/pointer keeps jumping around the screen

Original title: wandering cursor

I have a dell inspiron 1720 with Windows Vista 32-bit. I want to disable my touchpad. When I check in the Device Manager files, nothing has offered disable the touchpad. My cursor jumps around and I read that disable the touchpad will help to stop this. I downloaded Touchpad Pal, but that did not help. Thanks for any help!

Hi murph528,

I suggest that you contact Dell support for more information on disabling the touchpad.

    Hello

    When I type in MS Word or OpenOffice or any other text box on a Web site for example flushing prompt that identifies where the next word/character must be placed around the screen jumps.

    So when I type a line of text I then start another line below and then without reason, that the text cursor jumps to the top line. This inserts text in the wrong place, which is incredibly annoying!

    Any help or ideas greatly appreciated!

  • When I tap on the touchpad on my HP Pavilion dv7 cursor sometimes also jumps on the screen

    When I tap on the touchpad on my HP Pavilion dv7 cursor sometimes jumps somewhere else on the screen. I sent 2 times to HP and it has been returned without problem found. They advised me to set the pointer at half speed, but it still happens. I found on the HP web site, a newsletter which confirms that they seem to have a problem: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01471084&tmp_task=solveCategory&lc=en&dlc=hr&cc=hr&lang=hr&product=4075797#.

    It is apparently related to the thread "Windows UPDATE Caused typing problems (Jumping cursor... )" It only happens when I type' and 'double tap', not when I type. So who is to blame?

    To disable the option of tapping helps but it is only circumvented the problem.

    And HP article points to its own software system BIOS or touchpad as the culprit, not the operating system.  I've seen a number of updates offered on Windows Update that can potentially manure with a touchpad settings; Quick Launch buttons specific to the virtual devices/interfaces/drivers ACPI BIOS that control things like the programmable buttons or special function keys and updated for HP, TouchPad software and driver updates.

    Non-Microsoft software and published on Windows Update for driver updates are put there by the respective hardware or software developers, not by Microsoft.  Many users just automatically install what are updates are available without looking too close description of the update and do not realize that they just installed an update to a third-party product as opposed to an update of the operating system.  Some users don't even know the difference.

    I would check the forums to support consumer of HP for a potential solution.  Several times, HP will have a new driver or software provision, but he gets only appearing on the support pages and download for currently marketed models, not on discontinued models.

  • Cursor jumps around the screen.

    ASUS uses tactile keys, built by the Synaptics for most laptops, so you should have a few options for sensitivity in your mouse control panel.  Look here:

    1. Type 'mouse' in your Start menu to find and open the properties of the mouse.
    2. On the Hardware tab, select your touchpad device from the list.
    3. Click Properties to open the touchpad settings.
    Note that some Asus "netbooks" have keys to touch mutli-touch capable of handling 2 fingers, as "pinch to zoom".  They have no sensitivity adjustment.  In fact, I used an Asus netbook like that and it doesn't even have a switch for the touchpad, and I found it so senstive and boring that I returned it to the store.
    I'm sorry to say, but you might have to do the same, if you are not satisfied with the product.  There is only so much that Microsoft has control over, and that's something that only manufacturers can do anything on.

    Hi all

    I would like to add my 2 cents to the conversation.  I have an ASUS G73S MS Windows 7 Professional. It has a Synaptics touchpad and came with standard Synaptics software and the update of Scrybe to allow all the controls really fancies as pinch and 2 fingers to scroll. I have 8 GB of ram and a processor I7. So, it shouldn't be a question about background programs steal resources.

    I have this same problem cursor jumping, and he does the same typing this simple message of a real pain.  I also did a bit of research on this problem.  Maybe I have traced for some, the problem date back as far as from 2008 to 2003. It occurred in the Mac and it is apparently common in the PC, it seems to be a universal problem.

    Reasons/solutions vary:

    programs background too consume some resources or remove unnecessary programs.

    mice control/run virus program antivirus, touchpad question/switch to a mouse.

    Touchpad grounded questions/metal on the ground, program conflicts/reload last updated,

    Touchpad too sensitive / reduce touchpad senistivity.

    noticed an evening that said something about a file of bad scrll.exe or something like that

    Something on a download called Touchpad Pal has also seen, but I would be a search before you actually download to make sure that it is not malware.

    Most individuals find that disabling the touchpad and using a mouse connected real thread solved the problem.  He has done for me, but I still prefer using the touchpad due to lack of space for the mouse. Usually, I'm sitting in the Chair with the computer on my lap, that's why I wanted a laptop.  I just had my PC wiped and checked for viruses, it was clean. I had the actual number of operating processes, reduced to about 60.  Before you wipe it off, there were about 120. I will continue to try to find a solution, but I think that the best, I'll be able to do is reduce the jumping, not really to eliminate it.

  • NB100 - mouse cursor flies around the screen

    Hello

    So, I bought the NB100 and noticed that something was not right but stupidly put upward with her for over 2 years. Now he is just really annoying as its happens more frequently and, possibly, gets worse!

    Randomly, the mouse cursor flies around the screen, by clicking at the opening programs and files, etc. The only way to stop it is to turn off the laptop holding down the power button. She also does when I plug in a usb mouse (and disable the touchpad) so I assume that it is not the hardware, but I have reinstalled as the driver...

    Usually, if I turn the laptop on its always crazy but if I start it in safe mode its fine. This made me think I had a virus but I did a scan and nothing shows.

    In addition, I don't think that turn it off by holding the power button down is very good for the system that sometimes, when I try to turn it back on, it doesn't load at all (just a black screen with the cursor).

    Help, please! I would be eternally grateful...

    Thanks in advance, Nadia

    need you pretty much time to fix. My advice is to reinstall Windows from disk image or hard drive recovery. Please, understand me, it's easier and quicker to reinstall rather try to fix it.

  • Why my cursor jump around the page when I type

    When I type on Word or an e-mail my cursor jumps around the Aalst page all the time. This could be the cause?

    Hi Phil,

    1. what kind of mouse do you use? Wired or wireless?
    2. is it a laptop or desktop?
    3 when was the last time it was working fine?

    I suggest that you check if the mouse settings are correct.

    You can read the following article and check.

    Change the settings of the mouse

    Method 2:

    Put the computer to boot and then check if the problem persists

    Follow step 1 in the link below,
    How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

    Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.
    After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

    Important: n ' forget not to put the computer to a normal startup follow step 7 in the link.

  • Pointer is frozen on the screen whenever I press and hold the CTRL key to select individual files, photos etc.

    Pointer is frozen on the screen whenever I press and hold the CTRL key to select individual files, photos etc.

    * original title - mouse pointer freezes *.

    What happened since I bought my laptop with Windows 7. I tried my machine manufacturer and they don't have any idea. It's very annoying to have my pointer freeze and close the lid of the laptop to thaw it.

  • XPS 9000 froze and restart does not start - get the cursor flashing, top left of the screen

    System was working normally and after some time froze - no mouse movement, clock does not move, etc.

    Did a stop down with the power button (hold down 10 sec +) to stop.

    On switching on, does not pass through the boot sequence.  F2 does nothing and the only sigh of 'life' is a blinking cursor, upper left corner of the screen.  Tried to close - turn several times with the same result.

    I suspect a motherboard problem because there is no start. Don't know any other tricks to try to resuscitate the box.

    Does anyone have experience/solution for this type of problem?

    WGR,

    As there is no "beeps", I guess as a failed motherboard.

    Try the following, if you are comfortable working around computers:

    Note: The only 100% POWER supply test method, is to install a known working power.

    Unplug the power cord, hold the power button in for about 15-20 seconds, open the case, disconnect the power connector 24-pin motherboard and jumping the Green wire to one of the black wires, plug in the power cord and the power of the system, if food and case fans and disk hard drive performance then the power supply should be good.

    Note: Do not remove the wires from the plug, use a small piece of wire or a paper clip as a rider.

    Excerpt from power supply, again, unplug the power cord, hold the power button again for 15/20 seconds to discharge residual power, reconnect the connector 24 pin to the motherboard.
    Remove all the computer PCI cards, remove the video card [as appropriate], disconnect all devices, except the monitor, mouse and keyboard and unplug cable power & data of all readers.

    Reconnect the power cord and power the system on, see if you get something different from the LED on the power button, or any 'beeps '.

    No difference, remove the system memory and try again.

    Still shows no signs of life while looking at a motherboard replacement & maybe a processor.

    Note: The good news is, processors lack rarely, being the only method I know to check a processor, install a compatible work PC, or use a known job processing.

    Unfortunately the Dell OEM XPS 9000 renovated/new motherboards are not cheap.

    Bev.

  • Cursor jumps across the screen.

    While trying to navigate around my screen with my mousepad to laptop, the cursor jumps randomly offline.

    • ex: when you try to click on the scroll bar (on a Web page) at the bottom of the page, the cursor jumps to the top of the page.
    • ex: on the desktop, I'll move the cursor over an icon, and the cursor will move to a random point on the screen and continue to move in the direction my finger, said that on a new path.
    • Sometimes, the slider works very well.
    • The problem occurs when you use any program.
    • I don't have the problem "while typing, my mouse moves and clicks on".
    • The movement is just a quick jump from point a to point b. (not rapidly moving around screen clicking everything)

Try typing carefully kept your palms/inches clear of this mousepad and see if that helps the issue. • Problem when creating objects to the point user clicks on the screen

    I'll sometimes have a problem when clicking on the screen and have an object at this time created. 95% of the time it works properly, but sometimes, the object is created in a different area of the screen.

    Everyone comes across something similar? Or is it likely to be just a problem with the Simulator?

    Thank you very much for any help offered.

    If you want a "newLabel" to appear in the contact details of your mouseEvent, but only if details of mouseEvent are lower on the screen (having a higher value) at the height of your textButton.

    If your TextButton object does not touch the top of the stage (y = 0), you'll want to write this instead:

    if (event.localY > textButton.y + textButton.height)

    It may be a good idea to write it anyway, just in case you want to change the position of the TextButton.

    In addition, localX and localY properties of your mouseEvent are compared to the event containing sprite.  for example, if you have a canvas Sprite that is a parent of your textButton and is tuned for the mouseEvent.  otherwise, if there is no sprite contains (second phase) for your event, you'll want to use stageX and stageY instead.

    I guess since I can't be sure of your intentions here, but try this instead:

    private function createItem(event:MouseEvent):void
         {
         if (event.stageY > textButton.y + textButton.height)
            {
            var newLabel:TextField = new TextField();
            newLabel.x = event.stageX;
            newLabel.y = event.stageY;
            newLabel.text = "test";
            newLabel.setTextFormat(userTextFormat);

            addChild(newLabel);
            }
         }
