iCloud photo library and the problems of local storage of iOS

I have iCloud library lit with iPhone active storage optimization. However, I still have more than 1 GB of space being taken up locally on my iOS. If all my photos that I take on iOS are automatically sent to iCloud for storing, why is there such a big mark always on my phone locally? If I try to remove my iOS device photos, I am prompted with a message indicating that this photo is deleted from all devices and iCloud. Is it possible to have all your photos sent to iCloud and then removed from your iOS device?

You need to keep them on the device, or they will be deleted to iCloud. Optimization occurs according to the needs, not all at once.

  • iCloud photo library and FIRST photos in iOS

I would like to enable capture of RAW files in iOS 10. I have a 256 GB 7 iPhone +, but at 30 MB per DNG, storage will be used quickly if I don't get the photos on the phone regularly.

It is true that I am still unclear on iCloud photo library works. I activated on my iPhone, but I think it means it stores the photos on the phone and also downloads in the cloud?

If I had to come home every day and transfer the DNG on my Mac and remove them from my phone, I assume that they will have is no longer a storage space on my phone, but would take place in iCloud if they were downloaded before I moved out of my phone?

Looks like I should cut iCloud photo library if I am shooting RAW, since I would like to download very large photos that I don't necessarily want to keep?

iCloud is a synchronisation/mirroring service and not a traditional cloud solution based.  If you are looking for a more traditional based cloud solution, then consider using an application third, for example Dropbox, Flickr or Google Photos.

  • Disabled by mistake to iCloud photo library and he turned his back.  Still says it will remove pictures

I disabled the iCloud photo library photos & soft adjustment camera, as well as any type of sharing.  I need try to free 13 GB of space which has been monopolized by ghost photos that were not on any device or even show in icloud.com.  Restarted the phone, the data was retrieved, and I re-enabled all elements in parameters, including iCloud photo library of photo sharing.  iCloud library, Optimize iPhone/iPad, storage, Upload to my photo stream, download Photos of Burst, iCloud, sharing photos, pictures to summarize all lit up.

The question I have is that I see the message:

"iCloud photo library will be removed from iCloud in 28 days.  Choose to download and keep the originals below to download a full copy of your photos and videos. »

That's fine, I have all my saved photos.  What I find that I am able to do is add any (as via iCloud.com Photos), as the 'Upload' button is grayed out and the same message appears on the header of the photos app page.

I want to reset it.  I thought that turn everything would have been fine.  But it seems to be stuck.  I activated on all devices.  It's frustrating because it is preventing me from getting things done on the fly, I'm used to because I can't upload pictures in the Photos app.

  • iCloud photo library and faces

I created faces on my library of Photos of MacBook and this morning has decided to turn on iCloud photo library on an iMac to remember all my originals.  All the photos were perfectly copied everywhere, but while the faces always works on the MacBook, it asks me to put in place new o the iMac... y at - it a way to turn it?

Also, I have a folder in 'My Albums' section, called, 'iPhoto events' and that there are 2 folders of photos from my iPhone.  How were these created?  If I delete a photo of these flows it deletes all my photos.  I think I can delete individual photos from these albums iPhone but they will remain in all the pictures and then I deleted albums and the record... is that sound right?

All the photos were perfectly copied everywhere, but while the faces always works on the MacBook, it asks me to put in place new o the iMac... y at - it a way to turn it?

ICloud library stores tags searchable faces, but not thumbnails of faces.

If you named a face on your MacBook, you can find this name in the search field in the Photos on your iMac. You will find photos, but the thumbnails will be missing. I would name a few faces manually on your iMac, then wait a few days for the recognition of face on the iMac to find thumbnails of faces and then use the search to quickly assign names for the thumbnails.  It will be faster that the original designation on your MacBook, because that Photosis make a good guess.  See this support document: use Photos and iCloud library on several Mac - computers Apple support

Also, I have a folder in the "My Albums" section called "iPhoto events."

The migration has created an album for each of these events you had in iPhoto or the projects you had in Aperture. (See this link: How Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support) If you do not want these albums, delete albums, then the folder.   Deleting an album or folder does not remove the pictures from the library.

  • iCloud photo library and airport time capsule

I'm willing to put in place a back up of my macbook pro and think using an airport time capsule.

However, I also want to start using iCloud photo library.  I prefer not to keep the original photos on any of my devices to keep the space they use to a minimum.  I was wondering if I can save the originals in the time capsule and also use it for back ups, although I understand that this is not the safest place to keep the two sets of data.  Alternatively, if I can get an external hard drive to time capsule with a job to organize the original photos.  Can the time capsule also back up this external hard drive.

    So I would then:

    • My macbook pro saved on the Time Capsule and, possibly, the iMac to my wife, if possible
    • Pictures saved on the hard drive external and saved on the Time Capsule
    • Photos stored in iCloud photo library

Seems to me have asked a lot of questions and do not know if it's a very complicated way to get a result.

1 - iCloud library is not a backup

2 - question TM are really better ask in the forum OS for your computer - we are users of Photos either way by using TM - not the TM experts - these links are also useful - use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple Support - http://pondini.org/TM/FAQ.html

3 - when you have the original photos on the TM volume you do not have a backup at all - when the TM drive fails, you lose all

4 - TM I do not (see #2) backup hard drive attached

5 - Yes, you can back up several computer for a TC - I do hourly

    6. the best IMHO is what I do - a mac equipped with a player of great size that all photos and original and is saved by using TM hourly and a clone of all the more days and other Macs with storage drive limited with optimized photos

  • How can I fix my iCloud photo library and iCloud drive?

I noticed that all of my devices are stuck insofar as transfer or upload photos. Then, I went iCloud.com and get an error if I try to open the Photos or iCloud drive web app. I thought that others need to be affected, but my partner has no problem using iCloud.com for photos and player itself. So there's something really wrong with mine and I have no idea how to solve this problem in addition to call Apple.

Does anyone have experience with this?

  • ICloud photo library - double images and memory iPhone 5 c problem

    Hello

After months of deliberation, I decided to convert my Aperture on Mac in photo library and link the family three iPads and my iPhone to iCloud photos. I made sure all software updates have been installed on all devices, including the Mac. After 22 days of continuous download, I have now all the pictures in the clouds!

However I have 2 problems. My 30 k + original images expanded to 40 k + with thousands of duplicates and my iPhone 5 c memory (8 GB - what a mistake!) is now full and I cannot take photos more or update applications on it. I guess that duplicates are albums on iPads.

Before I converted, I checked and the documentation stated that the Photos would be recognition of duplicates and not replicate in the cloud. I also checked the box to optimize the images on my iPad and iPhone not realizing that even with the optimization of the paltry memory on the 5 c would be totally inadequate - the iPad is very good.

Now I have more documented and install PhotoSweeper on the Mac seems a possible solution to the problem in double - the alternative is to go through each image!

Re the problem of the iPhone, the only solution I see is to stop the iCloud photo library on the phone and then remove the images on the phone. Who will free the memory, and I will then be able to take pictures I have to take pictures by other means. It's not ideal for a functioning flawlessly, but when my contract is up this summer the next phone will be a greater amount of memory and hope it will be seamless!

Any advice please before going further?

Photo Sweeper is a good package and works well and is course - so are duplicate Annihilator for Photos and PowerPhotos

You could try turning off ICPL on the small phone, cleaning of duplicates and leaving all s = complete uploads and downloads and stabilize and they new the on with photos on the iPhone - optimized it can handle then - worth a try

  • ICloud using photo library for the first time

I am considering switching to iCloud photo library for the first time - mainly so I'll be able to use the new functionality of memories in iOS 10. However, I have quite a large library of Photos on my Mac and I'm worried about the mistakes of synchronization, bugs and any damage my irreplaceable photos. I have a Time Machine backup, but each backup on which generally only lasts a week or so, and with a large library of errors can take some time to appear. Should I be worried? Are there precautions I need to take?

In view of all the people who use it, there are very few messages on issues. Since you have a backup, you can still recover. You can consider to get a 2nd external and make a copy of your photo library in order to have 2 backups. Depending on the size of your library, you may need to purchase additional iCloud storage as free storage space is 5 GB. With a large number of photos, it will take much time to complete the synchronization. Some people have posted their s took 2 to 4 weeks. Our respective synchronization went well and we had no problem.

  • Removal of old photos of the iPhone with iCloud photo library on

I had a 6 128 GB iPhone for a couple of years and I bought a Macbook Pro about a year ago. I've been running iCloud photo library - but not Photostream - and without really look deep into the settings exactly, when I take pictures on my phone they usefully automatically found in the Photos app on my macbook. When I remove photos from my phone, they also seem to disappear too from my mac.

Recently, in an arrangement of happy until I started running low on space on my phone. My question is, is my library in 'mirror' between my devices? IE if I say, delete all my photos from 2012 to 2014 my phone, they are removed from my macbook too? Obviously, it would be disastrous.

I guess my question is, what are the best settings to have a situation where my photos will be driven by my phone to my laptop, but then stored on my laptop indefinitely?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hello

When you use iCloud photo library, deletion of a photo or a video on any device that uses the service will remove this item in all of them and also to iCloud.

The following resources may help explain how the photos and videos are managed by iCloud photo library, including the possibility to optimize the storage on your iPhone:

To manually import pictures to your laptop, you can follow the steps detailed here:

  • Download the video in MPG format to iCloud photo library

Is it possible to download a video file, MPG to a Mac to iCloud photo library?

I stopped using iCloud photo library on the Mac due to low disk space, however I always use iCloud photo library on other devices and would like to have the video available here. I tried to use the web interface to iCloud by using Safari, but I get a message that the format is not supported

I guess I could convert the file in another format, however, I do not want 3rd party applications on my Mac, and I worry about compromising video quality. Is the other way to do this? Could using Photos (1.5) on the Mac and the activation of my photo stream get the video to appear in the photo library of iCloud?

As we told you MPG is not a format alternative for ICPL

Types of files that you can use with iCloud photo library

Your photos and videos are stored in iCloud, exactly as you took them. All your images are in their original format in full resolution, JPEG, RAW, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and MP4, as well as special formats capture you with your iPhone, like slo - mo, Time lapse video 4K and Live Photos.

  • Trying to get pictures of the iPad to the iPhone. Clicked on iCloud photo library. Ended up deleting most of my photos in a second. Anyone know anything on this subject?

I tried to make my photos to iPad iPhone. The ordinary photo stream was not working. I clicked on iCloud photo library in the iPad settings. Says delete a hundred photos. I clicked on that and all of a sudden, the vast majority, perhaps 600 deleted and no sign of them anywhere. Probably shouldn't have but reset iPad hoping to my last backup I had all, unfortunately not there

During a turn on iCloud photo library on a camera that have been placed on the device via the sync from iTunes are deleted from the device. Original must be always on your computer (if they are not, they would have been removed from the device next time you synchronize with iTunes). The following link has received instructions on how you can add these photos to your iPad (see the section titled "if some of my photos are missing after I turn on iCloud photo library?': get help with your iCloud photo library - Apple Support )

  • iCloud Photo Library Download stuck after changing icloud account

This is FYI if someone of another encounter the same problem, I've had.

My daughter Mac and iphone used a common icloud account that has been set up for the family some time ago.   She had a lot of photos stored in icloud, through Photos.  We decided to create account it with his own icloud and itunes recently.

The first question icloud was in its disconnection from the old account.  The message that you will lose pictures and videos that are not fully downloaded to the Mac we fear for a few days because there is no easy way that we could find to determine in advance what photos and videos were not fully downloaded.  So, we tried for these days download all photos and videos but did not seem to make any progress.  After a few days, we have bet that we could continue with disconnection and risk losing the photos and videos they would be still in icloud under the old account.  Then we saw on the screen depending on who told us that we will lose only 3 photos and 1 video - too bad that the screen has not come earlier.  So we disconnected.

The second question icloud came after connected to the new icloud account and tried to get his Mac photos to sync up to pictures of icloud.  We spent 2 or 3 days waiting for them to update and 2 separate calls with Apple support but no resolution.  There were two additional things, I noticed: 1) the iCloud library update bar (under preferences/Photos/account) remained empty (i.e., no green progress bar) for 2 or 3 days indicating no progress has been made and 2) next to the heading 'ICloud photo library' was the message in red that I had 29 (then 28 then 27) days to download my photos to icloud prior to their removal.  It made me suspicious that it was a reference to the photos under the old account and I was connected to the new account.  So, today, I bet and disconnected the new icloud account and once again had the same 3 photos and 1 video message would be deleted, that I accepted.  Then I signed in to the new account icloud, got informed that I had too little space on the new account to all the pictures and videos to download, I opted for more space (paying), end connection, then pictures/properties/account and viola, iCloud library update bar now give me 1) a number of pictures to download and green 2) in the progress bar.

    So, to summarize:

    1. If you're worried about losing your photos (or other files) If you disconnect your icloud account, note 1) you should be able to recover if you reconnect to the account and 2) that there is a window that will tell you how much you will lose (even if have never heard you those who), and
    2. If the synchronization ends up with no apparent progress made (especially no count of how many must be synchronized or no visible 'green' progress) then a possible solution is to disconnect, and then reconnect to your icloud account.

  • photostream ios7 not synchronized with ios9 icloud photo library?

The title of my post is actually also my question.

I have an iPad2/iOS7x. Not wanting to update since I saw that another older I became practically useless when I updated to iOS8, then iOS9.

I used services iCloud and Photostream on it - everything is normally backed to the cloud with no problems.

I recently bought an iPhone6/iOS9. While I was setting this up I was asked if I wanted to move to iCloud photo library. I did, but now I realized that:

1 iPad2/iOS7 photos does not synchronize on iPhone6

2 iPad2/iOS7 photos appear not anywhere in the pictures on www.icloud.com application

3 iPhone6/iOS9 photos does not sync on iPad 2/iOS7

So my question is: are these two versions iOS7 incompatible iOS9 about the timing of the photo?

    Hi love,

I understand that you have some question about iCloud photo library and Photo streams. Let's see if we can clarify this.

The extent of iCloud photo library, yes iOS 7 is not compatible. Your devices will have to be at least 8.3 iOS to see all of your library or upgrade to iOS 9 on all your devices. Now, you can still have my stream of photos or iCloud, sharing photos to go to iOS devices 7, but you wouldn't have the entire library, like on iOS devices 9. Take a glance at the article below for details on what the requirements are for iCloud will go.
