iMac mid 2007 gel

iMac (20-inch, mid 2007)

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

3 GB 667 Mhz DDR2 SDRAM (2 + 1 GB)

El Capitan 10.11.6 OSX

Hard drive Western Digital 500 GB (black or blue, don't remember who I bought)

Most of the time, I can move the coursour. I can't click on anything that it put, comuter to sleep or do something else. Sometimes, the screen goes black. The only option is to force the closing down of my computer by pressing the power.

A few years ago I took it to my local apple dealer and they ran tests (I think they were testing for the graphics card, found nothing)

This happens especially when I just start the computer and try to open a folder or an application. This problem started when I upgraded to Leopard. I have used with the Tiger, but recently upgraded to El Capitan. It is preferable in this version on mac but happens several times a day.

I tried to install windows on it. Same thing.

A few years ago my hard drive failed and I changed it. I don't remember is the problem started before or after it. Less than a year after the purchase of my mac, the display has stopped working and it was replaced by the apple warranty.

What other information it takes me to solve this problem?

Update:

When I turn on my mac, the mac sound usually comes after 1-2seconds. Today, the noise began after about 5 seconds.

What you are trying to download is an update to El Capitan, which requires that El Capitan already installed.

You should find the correct Installer for El Capitan in the Apple store under the purchased tab.

I think that the port farther to the right is a mini displayport, but I don't know because I had a mini displayport to hdmi adapter and it does not extend to the bottom of the socket and also wouldn't keep the Hdmi cable in it. I want to add my Samsung TV as a screen for my computer. Is this possible? How can I do it in this case?

    Hello Peartree327,

I appreciate that you try to get your iMac to have TV as secondary display. Return to what you can do to get this working.

This port for the video on the right is going to be a Mini-DVI port. You would pair that more a DVI to HDMI Cable, you should be able to get the video to your TV. Take a look at the articles below to review the techniques and information on the cards for you help to iron out.

  • 24-inch iMac (mid-2007). How to upgrade?

I have an iMac 24 inch (mid-2007) with Mac OS installed 10.6.8. I just installed a new HD, I have to reinstal of Mac OS X. I am to the 10.5.8 level using my cdrom. How can I upgrade?

    Thank you.

The upgrade to 10.5.8 requires using a disc; It is generally a retail DVD of Snow Leopard. It can be purchased on the Apple Online Store.

Update since 10.6.8 is possible by downloading El Capitan, or redownloading a BONE you obtained previously from the Mac App Store or by purchasing a download code for Lion or Lion of the mountains on the Apple Store online.

  • Mid 2007 iMac

Hello! I have an iMac mid 2007, and, of course, it only is not supported (officially) for macOS Sierra. I read that an upgrade of the CPU can support, but no one knows if this is true? Thank you!!

    3MJB

    No, this is not correct.

There is no official updates. Even if you have replaced the entire mother (at great expense), the installer would probably not recognize and not to install Sierra, anyway.

If you have a spare monitor, you might want to consider buying a Mac mini from recent.

  • How long the mid 2007 iMac, running El Capitan 10.11.6 rely on Apple?

    Hi all

I was dreading the day where it would happen, but with the release of the Sierra of the OS, I see that my iMac mid 2007 is no longer able to update for Sierra. I am El Capitan 10.11.6 running without any problems and always up-to-date security, etc. I would like to know how long my iMac will be supported by Apple and for how long it will be safe to use.

    Thank you!

It is usually 7-8 years for the material, if you are already past. I don't know what's calendar from Apple for the OS, but you're on the latest version of El Capitan and I guess they will award updates security for a little; However, since Sierra was published, the focus has shifted to who and I expect updates to security for a past OS for over a year about.

  • mid 2007 iMac os update

I recently bought and renovated an iMac mid 2007. Updated 2 to 4 GB RAM. The next thing on the list to do, update the operating system. As you know, the iMac is technically able to update to the new OS X El Capitan. I'm a bit wary of this movement, as if I didn't want to stress not too much material. That's the spirit you have any recommendations to the extent of the Lion or Lion Mount going? Who do you think will be better for this iMac? or d you think that I should jump straight to El Capitan?

    Thank you very much!

    Concerning

El Capitan is your only choice, because none of the earlier versions are available for download.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

Use an external hard drive, a network or disk mode target for drag - copy the items that you want to move on. Software that came with an installer or package must be reinstalled instead.

  • El Capitan: Compatibility with the mid 2007 iMac

Apple support tell me my mid 2007 iMac Intel is compatible with El Capitan. My iMac only has 2 GB of RAM (spec that had been originally shipped) and is running Snow Leopard, which requires only 1 GB or RAM to run. Specification technical El Capitan indicate that 2 GB of RAM to run.

I'm afraid that if I install El Capitan, my iMac mudra to stop.

I was wondering if anyone of you has experience with the installation of OSX El Capitan on a mid-2007, Intel iMac?

    Thank you very much!

Based on the specifications provided, I guess it's your Mac:

    http://www.EveryMac.com/systems/Apple/iMac/specs/iMac-Core-2-extreme-2.8-24-inch - aluminium - specs.html

2 GB of RAM is the absolute minimum necessary for the performance of El Capitan (However, most of the people here will tell you that 4 GB should be realistic, low).  According to what you do with your Mac, it will not necessarily work well.  From the link above, you will notice that your Mac can take up to 6 GB of RAM.  If you want to update, I would like to, highly recommend, that you get more memory.

Yes, you just need an adapter plug that should be available to any airport or the hardware store.

  • Mid 2007 iMac - problem with install Clean El Capitan

I have a (very) old mid 2007 iMac that I tried to do a clean install of El Capitan to a USB flash drive.

I used the following instructions to create a bootable USB El Capitan:

    http://Mashable.com/2015/10/01/clean-install-OS-x-El-Capitan/#5K.kLrHcpEq3

The USB boot media creation went through without any problems. However, when I try to start the iMac from the drive flash, iMac stays on the screen of the Apple logo for a few minutes and then restarts.

The iMac was initially Mavericks recovery utility is restarted after I erased the hard drive. To avoid any possible problems with the installer of El Capitan, I used an older DVD of Snow Leopard to remove the Mavericks recovery from disk. The drive is now without an operating system or recovery utilities.

I suspect a problem with the hardware with the hard drive or flash drive that I use. The hard drive has been erased with a single pass of zeros using disk utility. The flash drive, I regularly use as disk bootable for PC.

My only other option at this point is to install Snow Leopard, install upgrade to El Capitan, and then use the recovery of El Capitan to do a cleaning.

I was wondering if anyone else encountered this problem and has a solution.

    Thank you.

    Just to update.

I decided to take the long road with this to install El Capitan on this iMac.

Here are the steps I took to install OS x:

    • Wipe all existing partitions on the hard disk, including my former Mavericks recovery partition.
    • Installed Snow Leopard from the installation DVD. Updated Snow Leopard 10.6.8
    • A ran Installer El Capitan
    • Started in the El Capitan recovery utility. I have reset (formatted) the reader.
    • Re-installed El Capitan.

I could not only solve problems with my key USB install media. It wasn't a complete disaster since I already had existing media that I could use for my iMac back on its feet. My mistake was wipe my existing facility for the Mavericks before check my USB as bootable. Installation took much longer than I anticipated for this reason.

So, in conclusion, do a clean install on this model iMac is possible, but I highly recommend checking any bootable media before you delete your existing installation of Mac OS. The best route (and easier) is upgrading the OS.
