Images-links - folder in external hard drive

Hi, I m a basic Indesign user and I have a problem with the images.

"When I create a new document or a book, I always create a folder to put the «.indd/.indb file" and create a subfolder named "images". (I m using an external hard drive)

My problem occurs whenever I have to change the computer I'm working on. (usually I use a laptop computer and another computer sometimes). When I change the computer, the "drive letter" changes too, as "E:\MyBook\" goes to "F:\MyBook" break all the links in my images.

My question is. West somehow configure Indesign (or just the document) to recognize all of the 'main' folder when creating links? Like '< all > \MyBook\Images?

Thank you.

If the links folder is in the same way as the ID file, it should automatically find the links, so copy the links folder to the drive pahrd and the file ID (bad idea to work on a file that is stored on a flash drive).

  • Lightroom CC - edition in the external editor with images located on the external hard drive problems

I have recently moved most of my image containing folders on external hard drive. In general, everything works smoothly in Lightroom (running latest CC). However, if I try to use an external editor of in Lightroom, I managed opening image in Photoshop CC if it is chosen. However, if I try to edit in a NIK Collection programs (i.e. Viveza 2) or affinity Photo I get error messages. The images open with Nik Collection and Photo of affinity and save in Lightroom when save. Everyone knows about this problem? And if you have, is there a resolution?

    Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Looks like I solved my problem with Lightroom. I disassembled my external backup drive, but upheld the disk external drive containing the photos up and then restarted my mac. After the reboot, I open Lightroom and chose the image on an external drive for mounting in affinity Photo and Collection of Nik. Both image successfully opened in editors. I reassembled the backup drive and rebooted time machine and repeated the same opening picture in external editors. Once again, works great. Have no idea where the original problem. Looks like a bad path was stored in a config somewhere file.

    Hi Gregory Trinidade,

You can try to create a folder in the C: drive and copy the images on the desktop folder C: drive.  After copy in C: drive then try again copy on external hard drive and see if it works well or not.

Make sure that you have access to the C: drive. Also instead of cut photos copy in another location.

    Hope this information is useful.

  • Creating the new folder to external hard drive

I've searched the forums and found many discussions on this, but I'm in a quandary.  I have an external hard drive Seagate 4 TB with about 2 TB of data backed up to it.  I was obviously saving data on this external drive without any problems.

Today, I tried to move my MacBookPro some data on the external drive and was unable to create a folder.  Reading the forums, I checked my permissions and it shows now that I have "Read only" permissions  In addition, it displays the disk formatted in NTFS.

How is that possible?  Everything was going well, 8 weeks ago.  How can I fix?

Reformat the drive for use on a Mac, NTFS for Windows machines, the drive to Mac OS extended (journaled) format

  • Project mobile folder on external hard drive

I have a folder in the mail that is heavy on Photos, and I think that takes a lot of my internal drive.  I want to put this folder on an external drive to free up space for other things.

In addition, all these stored in iCloud anyway? When I want to open one of these emails, it takes a long time to 'download' from somewhere.

    Thank you.

    Dave I have.

You should think about iCloud as a timing device - in other words - if the photos are here - they are reflected on your devices

Remove photos from iCloud will remove them with devices as well

One solution is to import them on the hard disk and then transfer them to a device out of storage such as an external hard drive or Carbonite or the Upthere.com

  • IPhoto migration from an external drive: stuck with hard links to the external hard drive

I got my IPhoto library on an external drive. To migrate to pictures, I dragged the IPhoto (on the external hard disk) file to the Photos icon.

Migration went well, but instead of importing data to the external hard drive to my macbook, Photos stored links on the external drive. Now whenever I start the Photos, the system tells me it takes the external drive to view the contents of the library.

To resolve this problem, I tried to copy my IPhoto library on my macbook and redo the import. It does not work: Photos, said the library has been upsized already (I noticed that the IPhoto library has been renamed 'iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary')

Is it possible to reverse the migration or mark the IPhoto library as not yet migrated? Any other suggestions?

    Thanks for your help!

Rename the copy of the iPhoto library on your internal drive to 'iPhoto Library.photolibrary '.  Then drag the library renamed on the Photos icon and pictures will create a new photo library on your internal drive.

  • Seen my original library cut in two, can I have the second library on my laptop with images referenced on my external hard drive?

Following the Division of the library and the Organization,

I can duplicate the library system on an external hard drive. Then divide the library and erase part of it on my library system and do the same on the library to external hard drive blocking the erased part of the library system. Essentially to save space on my laptop. But I need to have two libraries on my laptop, one with the originals and iCloud services, and the second with "small pictures" listed on the external hard drive. Can I do it? How can I do? ¿Is - it safe on two libraries?

    Thank you!

If you want to turn outside your library in a referenced library, with the originals on the external hard drive, you can not do it by duplicating the library if your original library is managed. Does not support photos to transform photos managed in referenced. The only way to make a photo referenced must import it such that referenced.

    You can do the following:

    • Export all the photo you want to move to a second library to your external drive.
    • Then, create an empty library on your internal drive and import the photos exported to this library with the preference "import. Copy items to the library' for disabled people.
    • Delete all the photos in your library that you moved to your new library referenced iCloud.
    • Keep a backup copy of your original library on your external drive, so that you can revert to the original version, if you made a mistake.

  • Sudden appearance of the names of long and digital folder on external hard drives

I have a couple of external hard drives - from different manufacturers - that I use for storage of music and video files and backups. For some reason, the two generated spontaneously records with alphanumeric long file names - for example H:\6f4f50122a8503a6e12ba6813091dede.

They have few locks on them and thus defy the deletion.

In fact, I went to the length of formatting of disks. He gets rid of these files, but they come back soon. Does anyone know the purpose of these files?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hey the grave,

You just need to update the location of the folder to these images in the Lightroom on the external drive. When you move the original image to another place after importation into Lightroom, you don't get to see a preview of the image in Lightroom. Its very important to have the original image linked with the preview in Lightroom.

For step by step instructions, you can follow the link below.

How to find missing photos in Photoshop Lightroom

Note: If you think you want to change something in the structure of folders on your external drive or on your machine, first, and then import the images into Lightroom to avoid this problem.

Let us know if that helps.

    Kind regards

LR 5.7 cannot find my files already edited because I accidentally deleted them. I have original and exported raw files edited JPEG images on an external hard drive. How to get back on LR the possibility to repeat already published photos complete with a history of editing? Thank you.

Thank you Joe Maniac.  I deleted the original linked files on my internal hard drive which were dng files, but had copies of the raw files edited and edited the exported raw files (in JPEG format).  I don't have copies of dng files.  So what I ended up having to do was import the original raw files which then made a DNG copy on my internal hard drive.  The link has not changed, but now the files were back in the original track for missing photo alerts disappeared and I was able to see my change history.  The process has been painful, but without the dng, I had nothing to do a link to more if at least re-import them files has recreated the dng.  I don't know if there was an easier way, but it seemed that the problem did not the link deletion.  I use LR for a few years, but it was a rookie mistake, precipitated by my hard drive being so jammed up I ended up delete what I shouldn't.  I should have just moved the dng and the link to an external hard drive. Thanks again.

  • Directory of external hard drives problem

    Hello

My main Lightroom Catalog is linked to my external hard drive "Photo 1". The directory of records showed only the HD picture.

Recently I imported photos from another drive external hard 'Vidéo 1' now the directory in the files shows "Backward slash > Volumes > Photo 1 and external hard drives video»

In the past, I have imported additional external hard disks and they show separately in the folder. How can get rid you of the "Backward slash > Volumes" I tried to rename the HD and the restoration of the links but that does not work.

Thank you very much for all the advice.

Right or Ctrl click on the top-level (backslash) folder and choose promote subfolders from the popup menu. You may need to repeat for the Volumes.

  • Windows Vista does not recognize my external hard drive, Eagle Consus AND-CS2PSU2-BK

I have an HP Presario laptop running Windows Vista and it does not recognize my external hard drive, or my flash drives.

I have an external hard drive Eagle Consus AND-CS2PSU2-BK.  It worked fine on my desktop, which works on XP.  I plug it to my computer laptop and nothing.

When I plugged it in the first place, he says that he needed to download the drivers.  I clicked 'ok' to automatically download drivers and a few seconds later, he said that it successfully completed the driver download/install.

I look under the drives in my computer and he's not here.

I went to start, right click computer, left you click on Manage and double-clique then under storage disk management.  All I see are C drive and recovery disc (D).  No other drives displayed.

I exitted who and set up the Control Panel, double click on Device Manager.  He said in the other topic peripheral USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge.  I don't know whether or not it is my external hard drive.  It indicates the Type of device: Other Devices and under device status it says: "the drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28).  This operation requires an interactive window station.  To reinstall the drivers for this device, click on reinstall the driver. »

He asks if I want to reinstall the drivers, so I clicked that.  He couldn't find them / install them.

Still, I don't know if USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge is still linked to my external hard drive.

Help, please.  The same thing happens when I try to plug a flash/USB.

    Try this:

In the right click 'USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge' Device Manager under the other devices section, click unsintall or press the delete key. Reset with the connected hard drive it must be reinstalled, but under the USB controllers. Make sure the device works on the other computer cable can also go to bad.b
