Incompatible CPU?

Hello
I have 5 servers ESX 3.5 Upd2 in a cluster HA/DRS.
On this 5, 3 Dell PowerEdge 2950 and 2 IBM x 3650 [MT7979-C3A].
Since all are Intel Xeon x 5355 @ 2 .66GHz [quad-core processors], vMotion etc are working well.
I have 2 new HP ProLiant DL580 G5 Intel Xeon x 7460 @ 2 .66GHz [hex-core CPU].
After that I added these 2 HP servers to the existing cluster, I tested vMotion virtual machine and failed.
Cluster parameters, 2 HP servers are listed as "Incompatible hardware".
I activate the IVT on two servers BIOS.
Apparently, my suppliers keep refusing to believe they are incompatible. Does anyone know if this confirms that CPU new servers is incompatible with the existing ESX servers?
Or are there other ways to confirm this for me?

The answer on how to apply a mask of SSE 4.1 is probably in this document, you may need to use this change on a per-VM basis:

http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalID=1993

Go to the section to "Change the default mask" in section 2.5 of VC (not the VC 1.X section). Also, look at it "Global masking with ESX Server 2.x and ESX Server 3.x" and see if there is a global change, you can add to your file vpxd.cfg on your server VC rather than apply the change only to virtual machines.

You will probably not support cluster if you apply that to your cluster so it may be better to simply create two different groups.

You may also search out if Compatibiilty of enhanced Vmotion (CTS) might work for you, but this would require that build you a cluster empty and feed in the smallest of your boxes first create masking baseline, then add others in the cluster. You probably want to test it first to see if it would work. Which may require that you move to ESX 3.5 Update 4 of your current level of update 2 in order to get the ability of EVC.

    Greetings to all,

in the data center, I had 3 esxi 4.1 host. I raised vcetner on the new server, version 5, and I put one of the 3 esxi worm 4 new vCenter.

    First, everything seemed perfect.

  • Incompatible CPU question

    HI guys

I have two questions, I think it's related

    Overview

I have a gen second i7 CPU, which I activated the VT in the Bios and using Vmware Workstation 8 I configure vCenter Server 5 and two VMS Esxi 5 workstation 8, everything he walks.

    1. my first question is when I go to deploy a computer virtual on one of the host ESXi 5 that will run Server 2003 64-bit, I get the error CPU host is not compatible with the requirements of the VMS to CPUID level 0 x 8000001 registry "edx". the tired host: 0000:0000:0001:0000:0000:1000:0000:0000 required xx1x:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx:xxxx inconsistency detected for these features: * Longmode; required when a virtual machine is configured for 64-bit guest OS. 2. when I click with the right button on my cluster in vcenter 5 and choose change settings and choose VMware EVC and click the VCA mode and select Activate CVS for Intel hosts all the selections in the drop-down list give me error 'Enhanced vMotion compatibility (EVC) cannot be enabled because the cluster contains hosts that lack of HCL. I checked the CPU Compatible table and this CPU is supported is an Inter Core i7 - 2620M (2.7 GHz)

Can someone help me with this problem

    Welcome to the community,

just to confirm, you create the VM ESXi with hardware Version 8 and activate/check 'Virtualiser EPT-x/Intel VT or AMD-V/IVR' in the settings of the processor of the ESXi VM?

If this is the case and it still does not work, please attach vmware.log the ESXi host and vmware.log customer Windows 2003 nested in your next post.

  • Migration of vCenter server vm to incompatible cpu?

Our vCenter server and the SQL database running on a single virtual machine.  The data store is a SAN that is accessible to all the host ESX (i).

How can I migrate this VM to a new host ESX (i) if the processors are not compatible?  I suspect that this departure vMotion?

So far my research for this scenario have not find solutions.

    Hi HopeCollege,

Connect with VI Client for the ESXi that hosts the virtual machine of vCenter. Close it with elegance. Cancel the registration of the host, simply remove it from the inventory.

To connect to the destination ESXi with VI Client. Browse the data store and save the virtual machine of vCenter. Check the network configuration and all settings of the virtual machine. Finally start.

    Good luck.

  • CPU indicated as compatible HP does not seem to be compatible.

I have one P6313W. I was looking to upgrade the processor. Upgrade processor HP section said that the processors "AMD Phenom II X 4 9xx/9xxe/8xx Quad-Core (Deneb)" were compatible. I bought an AMD Phenom II X 4 965 and installed only to receive an incompatible CPU at startup error. It turns out that the power of my CPU is 125w and max that will accept my MoBo is 95. Now the section of processor upgrade HP says nothing about the power and CPU I bought was listed as compatible. So my question is, is there a way to get around the limit of CPU power (and that would be even smart) and if not, what is my recourse to buy a $100 processor + who doesn't even though HP says it would be? I know, run-on sentence

Here are the specifications of your desktop HP Pavilion p6313w and its card mother M2N78-(Violet6). According to the specification, this model supports processors "AMD Phenom II X 4 9xx/9xxe/8xx (Deneb) Quad-Core", as you have already said. Note that it is not the "b" list - Business or 'BE' - Black Edition CPU compatible. In addition to not be listed as compatible, the AMD Phenom II X 4 965 comes in 125 w and w 140 versions hanging next to TDP 95 watts of the motherboard.

Sorry, but there is no way to use this processor on your motherboard. Further, there is no recourse as the CPU has not been listed as compatible. If you were able to overcome the problem of power in watts TDP and the question of the BIOS, you would probably ruin the motherboard using the CPU.

  • Dimension 5150 cpu Upgrade

I have 4 dell dimension 5150's and you want to update all the 4 fastest possible CPU for this old of a computer.

Would an Intel Pentium D 945 3.4 work GHz LGA 775 CPU SL9QQ 4 M/800 Presler Dual Core?

They now have PROCESSORS, 3.06, 524, 1 MB, PENTIUM 4 PRESCOTT DT, G1

Or what is the best I could get in these?

I have windows 7 and hoping to be able to get up to 10 but the 524 is not compatible.

    scbauml

The Pentium D945 is the maximum that can be used in the Dimension 5150/E510.

However, if you don't have motherboard 0HJ054 installed and upgrade the processor on most other motherboards will rise a 'incompatible CPU"at startup and need to press F1

The Dimension 5150/E510 does not support all of the processors Pentium G20xx series, these require a different motherboard and socket.
    .
The motherboard for the Dimension 5150/E510 has a Socket LGA 775 and can't stand not all processors Core 2 Duo/Core 2 Quad, single Socket LGA 775, P4 and Pentium D can be used.

The Pentium D945 is the maximum that can be used in these models.

Before upgrading the processor, make sure you have the latest version of the BIOS installed.

You can find more Dimension E510/5150 upgrade information here:

  • Upgrade CPU Dell Inspiron 530?

I bought a Dell Inspiron 530 in October 2008 (Service tag <> NOTE from the ADMIN: Service tag removed by privacy policy >) and I would like to upgrade the processor. My current processor is an Intel Celeron 450 2.20 GHz. I think that my motherboard is a Foxconn G33M02. (But I am not sure, and I would like to confirm that, so that I don't get an incompatible cpu.)

What would be a good upgrade from the processor that I can put in my current motherboard? I feel that my current Celeron 450 is a uniprocessor processor, and I would trade out for an important and remarkable improvement with more hearts (at reasonable cost) while keeping the same motherboard.

I've already updated the PSU for a 460 Watt PSU and have also upgraded the video card. Looking for a good upgrade from the processor. I think I also need to update my bios of motherboard.

530 systems were built with two different models of motherboards.

FoxConn G33m02 [Dell P/N ORY007] motherboard, this version does not support processors Core 2 Quad, only the Core 2 Duo, Pentium Dual-Core and Celeron processors.

One of the following processors should operate in the 530 Inspiron:

Intel Pentium Dual Core 2140 (1.6 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)
    Intel Pentium Dual-Core 2160 (1.8 GHz, 800 MHz FSB)

  • Upgrade CPU laptop CQ60-211DX

I have a CQ60-211DX laptop.  It uses a processor Intel Celeron 585 2.16 GHz core simple.  It is a processor Socket 9.

I want to know if it is possible at this level to a processor Socket 9 better, such as the Pentium Dual Core or Core 2 Duo.  My main concern is what families of processor will support the motherboard.

My research so far indicates that the Celeron has a max of 31W TDP.  The Pentium Dual Core T3200 (2.0 GHz) and T3400 (2.16 Ghz) have a max TDP of 35W and the Core 2 Duo has a maximum TDP of 10 w.  So, the Pentium Dual Core would generate a little more heat than the Celero, but I think he might be able to handle the additional 4W?  The Core 2 Duo, on the other hand, almost cold.

The Celeron and Pentium have 1 MB of L2 cache, but the Core 2 Duo has 2 MB.  The Core 2 Duo has a pace much more slow clock (1.5 Ghz), but I understand that it is still faster than the Pentium with the effectiveness of the architecture.

I don't know how the FSB affects things, but the Celeron and Pentium are 667 MHz while the Core 2 Dio is 533 MHz.

There are several other statistics I do not understand.  A large part of the information I have just the pages that follow.  Also, I have confirmed with a representative of Intel Celeron 585 is, indeed, Socket P.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/compare.aspx?IDs=35583, 37160,33920,36681,

    http://Ark.Intel.com/search.aspx?q=socket%20P&t=ProductGroup

    http://Ark.Intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?series=28964

    http://Ark.Intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?series=23517

It seems that Intel does not often stated that a processor is Socket P, but Sockets supported including the PPGA478 seems to be what I'm looking for.  Not entirely sure, though.  There seems to be the T7000 and T8000 T9000 series processors that support PPGA478, also.

    http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=27255&processor=T7200&spec-codes=SL9SF, SL9SL

    http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=27256&processor=T7400&spec-codes=SL9SE, SL9SK, SLGFJ, SLGFV

    http://Ark.Intel.com/product.aspx?ID=27257&processor=T7600&spec-codes=SL9SD, SL9SJ

Although T8000 and T9000 models all have much higher FSB speeds.  Yet once again, I don't know enough to understand what effect this has on compatibility, so I guess I should stay with 667 MHz.

Finally, I guess the U7000 series is more advanced than any of the T series, but other TPD and VID lower voltage max quantity, all other specs seem lower (FSB, clock speed, L2 cache memory).

Soldering is not a problem.  I don't know if my processor is welded on or not (have not yet cracked open and will not until I know that it is worth), but even if this is the case, I have a soldering iron, solder Wick and the skills to remove the welding without damaging the components.

So what I've been able to reconstruct so far.  If someone could let me know which processors can handle the motherboard on my laptop, I would really appreciate it.  If someone could suggest what processors would offer the best performance gain, would be great, too.

    Thank you!

    Luke

    Hello

What follows is a listed one CPU upgrade CPU option for your product.

Processor Mobile Intel Core 2 Duo T5850 - 2.16 GHz (Merom-MV, at 667 MHz front side bus, 2 MB cache level 2 total, taken Micro-FC-PGA, 35W TDP, 65nm)

If you plan to upgrade limit you your purchase know CPU compatible and functional. This way you will save yourself the disappointment of an incompatible CPU installation.

As notebook BIOS do not have many options tweakable, which disqualifies basically anything but what the manufacturer offers for upgrades in option.

the CPU I have listed and linked to is probably the best you can do for your laptop.

    Kind regards

Pretty strange of the virtual machine will not migrate direct and throws the error message "host CPU is incompatible with the requirement of the virtual machine to CPUID level 0 x 800000001 register"edx"...» (screenshot attached).

As a work around, I can poweroff these virtual machines and migrate them to newly added host and switch on. This seems to fix the problem automatically incompatible cpu.

Now, I'm puzzled to understand whats going on. I'm sure that someone out there had a similar experience and might have answers.

you need to activate tehcnology Intel VT in the bios. Some manufacturers call it virtualization technology in the bios. Once you turn it back on, save it, then turn off the server and boot to the top. This gives a power cycle to cool off in ready mode of VT.

Here's the tutorial for Dell server, but it is not far for other manufacturers. http://www.vmwareinfo.com/2009/02/enable-VT-and-EVC-in-Dell-BIOS.html

  • ESX host Cluster Versions...

    I have a general question...

If I have a 3 host cluster, and 2 guests are on 3.5.0 (no updates) and another host is 3.5.0 update 3 is the default value for the entire cluster to 3.5.0?

I ask this question because I realized that I have a few guests who were not updated that I'd ever thought, and while trying to deploy VMWare View for development, we cannot use linked clones.  I suspect that this is because the cluster is not 3.5.0 with appropriate update.  Update VCenter Update 4 (2.5.0), and while I have a host that is consistent with the requirements of the view (upgrading ESX 3.5.0 U3 host)

Although it is a little irrelevent because we are working on the updating of the entire cluster to 3.5.0 U4, and the server VCenter 2.5.0 U4 it does not raise a question in my mind to understand how the cluster works when you have multiple hosts with different versions... maybe that is why we have trouble with vmotion between updated host and the other guests...! = O

Yes, if you have incompatible CPU is that vmotion is affected, but the basic version of 3.5 or U2 will not vmotion cause stop.

The only way to get the 53xx and 54xx to vmotion is to activate EVC, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1991 or replace the mask, http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1993
