  It could be a problem with your user preferences. Delete them and see if that solves your problem. They are located in the library folder of the user who is hidden by default on OS X 10.7 and 10.8. You can do so if it is visible by following the steps here http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/04/show-library-directory-in-mac-os-x-lion/. You open the Terminal application and type chflags nohidden ~/Library/ to make your library the user visible.

  Now, open Finder and click on your username. Now navigate to Preferences > Adobe > Adobe InDesign > Version 8.0. In the case of Version 8.0, you will see a folder like en_US based on the language you are using. Drag this folder to the trash. Start InDesign and see if this corrects the error. Default preferences for InDesign will be automatically built on the launch of the application.

  I use InDesign everyday, had my Macbook since September and have had no problems with the opening of the program at all until about 2 weeks ago. It appears with the graphics of opening with all the license information, and 5 seconds later, a window opens saying "InDesign quit unexpectedly", as well as loads of text on the threads, frames and the rest. (A copy of the text is available to InDesign Crash Info - Pastebin.com , in case where anyone can somehow choose something from that!)

  I tried to reset all my preferences and reinstall all of the CS6. I also had a problem with the fonts in the past, so I have deleted all my additional fonts and just now the default fonts library. The only way I could make it work is by setting up a different user account, and now it opens properly, but only when using this account. It's just a pain the * having to keep switching between user accounts all the time! I didn't know if there would be a quick solution to this, rather than having to transfer all my files, preferences etc. from one account to another and basically a new account from scratch.

  According to the accident report, you must always update InDesign to the latest patch (8.0.2 for a perpetual license, 8.1 for the subscription).

  If that alone is not enough, delete or rename the files of two preference from your old account (see replace your preferences for where to find them) and copy the same folders on the new account.

  My InDesign CC had an update yesterday.   I now have this sort, Adobe rang back me and helped me via remote access. They have deleted a file in the contents of the package (I thought to do this, but didn't know where to go or what to remove, think it was called "What's New" or something) and it works fine now. They told me NOT to update InDesign for a while until they know it will work ok once, do not want the same thing happens everywhere!

  Happened the first time when I got so InDesign CC, which was strange, but the update does happen!

  Since I downloaded and installed Mac OS X El Captain (and maybe its coincidence) InDesign crashes instantly after opening the application. I uninstalled the application using the creative application cloud and then installed again, I rebooted my computer, I disconnected and back in the creative cloud. I get no error message, except the report a screen of dialogue question pop up (attached). Any ideas? Should I call Adobe? Photoshop and Illustrator seem to open without any problems.

  Looks like Plugins problem. Have you tried to uninstall and reinstall once?

  Since 2 weeks I have a clean install of Mavericks on a whole new end 2013 Macbook Pro of the retina. All the latest updates apple are installed.

  I made a first installation of CS6. Photoshop and Illustrator work very well, but Indesign crashes during the splash screen.

  I deleted special characters in the article titles and rebuilt the app only to deal with the same error. I have advanced and created a new AppID in the portal to Apple developers, created new files available, and the error remains. I am now to create a new folio and import the items into the new folio to see if that will solve the problem of "number of folios does not.

  I created a new folio and all items imported again. After hitting "Create App" for this new folio, to about 10 pages in a 'PDF Export' error stopped the app creation process. I went in InDesign to update the layout for the 10 page to see that the PDF export issue kept me from updating the page layouts as well. Some thing in the InDesign file was not playing nice with the creation of folio, so I created two new InDesign files, deleted the article and built a new article from scratch. I was able to import the new page in a new article to the main folio and click on "Create App" again. This time he had no problems with the creative process. I have synced files available in App Builder and could sign the application code.

  I guess the moral of the story is to double and even triple check each item along the way to make sure there is no problem, is introduced into the process that eventually causes headaches during the phase of distribution of creating applications!
