Installation of Windows 8, stuck to "Customize".

Hey all.

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed at Windows 8, as much as I don't want to be. I spent the last hour and a half on my second appointment on trying to install Windows 8 Pro on my computer, an upgrade to Windows 7 Professional. Long story short, when it is all 'ready to go' and reached the final stages of the customization, it starts with customization: choose a color. I'd love to, but that is the problem. NONE of my USB devices are initializing. I tried all USB ports available on the back, the front and the top of my computer, both USB2.0 and USB3 (which would be another USB controller so I thought that can work, but it didn't). I also tried a PS/2 keyboard and mouse PS/2 (in combined PS/2 port). None worked.

Please help me out here. I am increasingly frustrated with W8, which is unfortunate, because I participated in the review tests the developer and the consumer, including the last, I used as my main o/s on another computer (not this one. "I understand that you cannot upgrade and bring files up to W8 RTM of the CP W8).

I'm upgrading of Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1, Windows 8 Pro. I used a digital download. The first time I used a USB key, this time I just did an upgrade of the digital download area saved files (using Windows8 - Setup.exe is provided in the email that I got)

Thank you to everyone who reads this and responds,

Chris Phelan

Edit: someone else has the same problem. See here

While this is an old thread and not too many people are loading Win8, after 7 attempts and a lot of reading and descriptions of Chris, I was able to go beyond the screen customization and finishing.

Intel Core 2 Q66

DP35 Council

NVIDIA 220

keyboard and mouse logitech wireless

Norton running

After wandering through the BIOS and other areas cowled, I followed Chris Phelan:

Device Manager Advanced Power/USB /, and disabled the selective suspension of USB.

It may seem strange in 2014 to load Win8, but I bought the CD and can't go directly to 8.1 win without a clean install.  Done that too many times, so now being given that the 8.1 is gold it is time 'upgrade', update and then get the 8.1.

Can't say this is the SOLUTION, but it's a solution...

    SOLVED!

Yay, I finally installed Windows 8 successfully!

    Here's what I did:
Instead of install Windows 8 from the file ISO of Windows 8 on Windows 7, I started in Mac OS X and launched Boot Camp Assistant.
From there I chose the ISO image of Windows copy on a USB key. Then, I chose the image ISO of Windows 8, after I copied on my Mac partition. Then he did his magic, and I found myself with a USB drived called WININSTALL.
Then I booted to Windows 7, has opened the window of the USB drive and launch the setup.exe
Voila! Windows 8! With the Apple's Boot Camp drivers installed automatically as well.

If you don't see an address bar, toolbar buttons, etc., Firefox can be full screen to his point of view. The F11 function key toggles between normal display and full-screen.

On the toolbar, find the main button of the application on the right side, who has a stack of 3 horizontal bars. From there, you can click in the Options and check the setting of your home page. More on that here: start-up, homepage, tabs and download settings.

Alternatively, from the side Windows desktop instead of a tile on the start screen for Firefox if you did the first time. Firefox doesn't have a 'modern' for Windows 8 interface +.

    Hi Praveen,

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

We need more information about the issue so that we can help you better.

    1. is Windows 10 still installed on your computer or you have wiped the hard drive?
    2. don't you upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

Thank you for details on the issue.

If Windows 10 is installed, you can downgrade to Windows 7 within 30 days of the upgrade. If it crosses the 30 day limit, the option in the settings that allows you to return to your previous version of Windows will not be available.

    Please see this link:
Return to Windows 7 or Windows 8.1
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-10/going-back-to-Windows-7-or-Windows-81

However, if you want to install Windows 7 from an external installation media, you can re-create the rack installation of Windows 7 from this link:
    https://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/Windows7

It is possible that the installation media does not develop properly. Please also make sure that you disconnect all the devices connected to the computer before installing Windows 7.

Note: You may lose programs installed after upgrading Windows 10. I strongly recommend to back up your personal files and data on an external hard drive.

    I hope this information helps.

  • Windows Update, stuck in the preparation of the installation

My installation of Windows 8/64 does not seem to continue to treat the Windows updates.

For days now it constantly displays the "Preparing to install" status without actually doing something...

Also, I don't seem to be able to interrupt this process. When I click on the [cancel installation] button, I get an error message telling me I need administrator privileges to cancel the installation. But Windows 8 provides an option to run applications as Windows Update of the Panel with privileges!

    Any help is appreciated.

I lived the same question: Windows Update has been blocked in "Preparing to install..." "When I tried to stop the installation it says I need administrator permissions.  The account I was using was a domain administrator account, and he appeared in the Administrators group on the local computer.  I'm tired of stopping and starting from cold, but when I went to Windows Update, it always says "preparing to install...". »

I went into control panel of-> administration tools-> Services and scrolled down to find the "Windows Update" service and stop it.  So I started again and when I went to Windows Update, it showed available current updates - not "preparing to install..." ».  I deselected all updates and selected only the first two.  They have installed successfully (reboot required).
After the reboot, I chose two others.  They have installed successfully (no reboot required).  Then, I chose 9 more.  They have also installed successfully (reboot required). The reboot takes a long time.  I was watching 'Configuring Windows updates' for about five minutes.
After the reboot, I selected the current updates remaining, including an update of the driver in option.  They have successfully installed in the shaft (restart required).

  • Installation of Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on DV6 2165TX

    Hello

I had posted earlier on the unused hardware reserved RAM when I upgraded my RAM to 3 GB, 6 GB. Link pasted below

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/hardware-upgrades-replacements/HP-Pavilion-DV6-2165tx-3GB-hardware-RESE...

I have suggested that I install 64-bit windows.

I tried to create the bootable USB key, but it simply doesn't. Have tried the steps as mentioned in the following links

USB bootable - Windows 7 key

    Installation Windows 7 64 bit

    In brief -

    ISO downloaded 64-bit Windows

    Approach 1-

1 downloaded Windows7 USB DVD Download Tool and created a USB of my 32-bit Windows 7 OS drive

    2. the installation program has not completed. Received error "utility could not create the boot sector on the USB key.

    Approach 2

1 used my laptop desktop - download Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool and created a drive of my Windows 7 64-bit OS

    2. installation completed successfully

3 Connecting USB in my DV6, and click on "setup.exe" in the USB

    4. has received the error "this version of this file is not compatible with the version of windows that you use...". "

    Approach 3

1 used my laptop desktop - download Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool and created a drive of my Windows 7 64-bit OS

    2. installation completed successfully

    3. change the order of boot in my DV6 - to charge from USB

    4. start Windows gets stuck on "windows loading files" and keeps restarting all stuck in the same loop

Then, when I try to create the bootable USB of my laptop DV6 32 bit, I get an error. When I create my computer laptop desk, my DV6 won't start him.

I read in one of the positions that

    • You can only create a USB stick bootable Windows 7 64 - bit flash player if your current Windows 7 installation is 64-bit also.
    • You can create a USB stick bootable Windows 7 32 - bit flash player if your current Windows 7 installation is 32-bit or 64-bit.

I think that even if I try to burn a DVD, it will be the same question

    Can you please.

    Thank you in advance.

    -Tushar

    Found the problem...

I got 6 GB RAM inserted in the notebook (4 + 2 GB sticks).

I removed the newly isnerted memory stick 4 GB and replaced the original configuration that is 1 GB + 2 GB RAM

Windows booted from my USB and I installed 64-bit Windows OS.

Well that now the purpose of installing64bit what OS is still not reached... as the new Windows does not start when I put the 4 GB of RAM in all configurations

    Thank you.

  • Windows Update stuck on Prepaing to install...

I upgraded my computer to Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 32-bit and after completing the process of leveling I noticed that Windows Update has executed and display 70 + updates, but none had been installed. I restarted the computer, Windows Update ran again and again he scored 70 + updates, but whenever I tried to install them, he would be stuck on preparing to install...

By the process of elimination, I was able to install all the updates except the one. The culprit is "Update for Windows 7 (KB2347290) security". I can't get my system to load this update. Whenever I select what he just stuck to the preparation of the installation...

I tried a clean boot and that did not help.

    Ideas?

I solved the problem. I went to the link for the update security and follow links to the real download where I chose and installed correctly. It uses an interface of different installation of Windows Update then maybe it was the turn.

  • Features of Installation of Windows 7 software service stops responding when the system configuration

I noticed that Windows 7 RTM (all versions, x 86 / x 64) has a bug on its features to Software Installation service which causes updates Windows hang during setup of the system (i.e. Windows is stuck on the message "preparing to configure Windows - do not turn off your computer"). M$ suggests to perform a repair with system restore or re - install the operating system from scratch, but is not an effective solution.

Given that Microsoft has published 5 updates for setup of functionality of software on Vista, I wonder why they don't release a similar patch for Windows 7?

    I opened a support to report the problem incident, which probably occurs after installationreliability KB974431 update(Windows6 1 - KB974431 - x 64.msu).

Hi recently my computer was giving me a bit of concern for example (running slow, do not easily light etc...). A couple of days, my computer has decided not to put on after a glance on the net (on my other computer), I found I had a problem call KSoD or black screen of death, therefore I went on youtube and made all the different things said youtubers can fix this how ever none of these things worked, so finally I decided that I would have factory reset my computer/windows to using the system restore. However, at half way through the installation of windows after the factory reset (my computer came with no disk Windows), my computer has decided to remove what I believe to be called a blue screen of death, that this happened before and I thought it was part of the installation but when I turned my computer on he showed at the bios screen , but then it said 'unable to start Windows. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To solve the problem: 1. I'm doing a clean re install of Vista on my computer. After booting from the installation CD, everything goes well until what happens to a point where it says "finish installation" (I get green check marks next to "copy of windows files, expansion of files, installation of the features and install updates").  Once it gets to the point "finish installation", it just gets stuck.  Finally, all I get is a blank screen with a cursor.  I tried this several times with the same result.

The computer will not start, even in safe mode (probably because that it doesn't have a full OS on it more).

    Thank you!

If you use the manufacturer's recovery disk, contact the manufacturer of the computer.

After installation > go to the website of the manufacturer of your computer/notebook > drivers and downloads Section > key in your model number > get latest Vista drivers for it > download/install them.

Save all data, because it will be lost during a clean installation.
