Installation of WinHelp32.exe on Windows 8 Pro

I am installed WinHelp32.exe on Windows8 Pro (64-bit). I go to the Microsoft support site and download:

Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu.

On a double click to install I get the message "this update is not applicable to your computer.

Any suggestions?

Retired2006

On Windows 8 x 64, I also want to access a file using an old application I use every day. I found the same problems and the same solutions above worked for me-

Problem 1 - Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu refuses to install with the message "this update is not applicable to your computer".

Solution 1 - get the old winhlp32.exe to http://www.eightforums.com/software-apps/7540-winhlp32-exe-how-can-i-enable-legacy-windows-help-system-windows-8-a.html. Then, faced with...

Problem 2 - I'm impossible to rename or delete the stub of winhlp32.exe in \Windows, so cannot replace the winhlp32.exe legacy that could actually work

Solution 2 - follow the procedure given in http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/how-to-delete-a-system-file-in-windows-vista/ to appropriate \Windows\winhlp32.exe, rename and copy winhlp32.exe inheritance in. Windows. Result: old help file can now be read.

You can also - use of language of the control panel configuration/addition to install & enable English (United States) - took a time, required restarts, showed the error message (default in Windows), but finally worked. (NB. before restarting, make sure that you know how to enter special characters in your password on a US English keyboard.)

Then, with active American English, Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu installs and you get a more updated version of winhlp32.exe.

Windows8-RT-KB917607-x 64.msu is enabled only for users of the English (United States)? Looks like that the Microsoft quality control slipped seriously with Windows 8, particularly with the updates.

It's Windows XP Pro and the product key is on the label. I want to stay with XP for now. Is there anywhere I can download the installation on a CD disc?

Unfortunately not.  But is you know someone who has a Windows XP computer with the XP CD "commercial" version see if they'll let you borrow it so you can re - install XP.

Once installation is complete you check the manufacture of mobile support site to see if they still list the drivers XP, you will need to download and install.

Also consider making a backup of the Image on an external USB drive as a means of protection if you need to re - install XP, simply use the most recent backup) of the drive if you ae able to install and activate XP using your key successfully.

  • The upgrade of Windows 7 Pro OEM of Windows 7 Ultimate retail

My PC is custom built and delivered with Windows 7 Pro OEM installed.  I want to install Windows 7 Ultimate in order to obtain several language and BitLocker.  I know that in a few months, I'll change this PC motherboard (motherboard).

I know that with the OEM, the product key of Windows 7 license is attached to the motherboard.  So when I change, Win 7 Pro license will be lost.  Since I want to be able to transfer the license of Windows 7 to one MOBO to another, I bought a full commercial version of ultimate.

My question is this.  To upgrade the Pro OEM ultimate retail, it's just a matter of changing the product key on the screen of the system property and the new product key will launch the installation of missing features to Windows 7 Pro?

    You must use Anytime Upgrade.

Click Start, type Anytime Upgrade, follow the on-screen Wizard, enter the key of Windows 7 ultimate on demand, click on, and then restart your computer when you are prompted. Less than 10 minutes, you should be upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate and your files and settings retained.

  • New installation on windows 7 pro 64-bit sees not connected wired Officejet 6500 E710a-f

    Hello!

New installation of Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on a gigahertz 3.40 AMD Phenom II X 4 965 with 8 GB of ram. Printer drivers worked on the same bench while he was running as Windows 7 Pro 32-bit.
After only install FF, AVG, and Acrobat (almost a clean install), downloaded the software HP Officejet full feature and pilot 2012-10-22, Version: 116,98, 28.8 M - OJ6500_E710n - z_1315.exe and tried to install the Officejet 6500 E710a f.

The printer has a manually set static IP and can be ping from the host. Clean Windows Firewall is disabled and stopped.

The web interface using the IP address of the printer comes with all the features works on FF.
Network status shows connected with IP address, hostname and Mac.

However, when installing the network audit is no ethernet connection. Even manually enter his public static IP address or hostname does not solve the problem.

Try the USB, the same question option. I see in Device Manager under other devices HPOfficejet 6500 and 6500 HPOfficejet - Fax with a blue questionmark.
(In the same "other devices" there are 2 Officejet 6500 with a yellow exclamation point - probably from failed network installation).

In the printers and devices window, the 6500 is displayed with the correct thumbnail, but with a yellow exclamation point icon. Law and by selecting the convenience store, Windows comes up with the message that no driver is installed and offers a solution.  The correction ends with the error that no drivers not found for the FAX. Re-apply the patch never finds the driver.

Anyone who has met something similar (and a solution)?

    Thanks for any help!

    Jack

After trying to do an install clean-install of 100% and once again, the driver software could not find the printer name or IP address.
Back at each stage, I noticed that I was not using the correct driver! For some reason I D/L the pilot E710n which is for HP Officejet 6500 a Plus e-All-in-One.
Whatever the difference, when installing the E710n for the model does not detect the printer, or via USB or Ethernet.
After you download the right driver for the E710a - f HP Officejet 6500 a e-All-in-One Printer (OJ6500_E710a - f_1315.exe) installation perfectly finished in a few minutes and everything goes well...

You would think, base or USB connectivity network should not be dependent on the specific differences sub-model. I was expecting that a bad driver interrogate the device after finding its IP address and display an error message with useful text.

  • New installation fails during the expansion of the files Windows 7 Pro

Recently, I built a new computer after my old man died. I installed Windows 7 Pro, I had on the old system. Everything worked well for about a month. Then I started having various errors, some suggesting a memory error. I ran several times using the most comprehensive parameters of memtest and no problem not found. Further inspection, I discovered that a critical system update was applied just before that the problems started. I decided to roll back the change. It does not solve the problem. I tried to do a system repair. That did not work. She only had basic as IE11 and Skype applications. I had also installed the utilities for the motherboard and graphics card. So, I decided to do a clean install. Each time, it fails during the expansion of the files. The error message is, "Windows cannot install required files. The file may be corrupted or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. "Error code: 0 x 80070570." He gets up to 30% each time. I tried to install for a V300 Kingston SSD (120GB). I also tried another SATA II HDD (750 GB) with the same problems. I downloaded a new ISO and tried to install from that. Yet once, it is not at the same point. I noticed that whenever it creates a partition system reserved 100 MB which is almost full. At one point, I got a message saying that there are about 8 000 MB of free space. (I think that was all trying to manually unzip the files by a tip I found online). I found several suggestions for similar problems, but the solutions proposed did not help. I'm sure it will be a simple solution, but I'm out of ideas. Any help would be appreciated.

If Memtest86 fails then you need to get into the BIOS and set the RAM timing.  Memtest86 + displays the calendar then use the value displayed and compare to the real specs for your memory.  Also, you may need to increase the voltage to the RAM (in BIOS) place a small amount.

As regards the function of Intel EIST, let her enabled for now. Then enable it after installing Windows successfully.
