• RoboHelp 11 generates only 1 file from a linked FrameMaker book

  I use TCS to create a WebHelp from a FrameMaker book project. Ultimately I convert the WebHelp in a CHM file to integrate into an application. By generating a CHM file that allows me to control the position of the window HTML Help.

  HR, I have linked to the file FM.book. HR converted files in the book, but when I generated the WebHelp, it contained a section of a file in the book.

  Thanks for solving my problem.

  For those following this thread, Jeff discovered that HR had not produced a table of contents of my linked book.fm file.

  The solution was to use the automatic table of contents generator of HR to create a new table of contents (and at the same time to delete the original file from the table of contents 'empty').

  After you set up the table of contents, HR has generated the WebHelp flawless.

  Once I had the WebHelp that is put in place, I was able to generate a CHM from her file. This allows persistence in the position of the on-screen help window (that is, the window "remembers" its last position when closed and reopened).

• 10 of RoboHelp to crash when generating a CHM

  I use Robohelp 10.0.1.292 on a Windows 7 64-bit with 4 GB of RAM. I have a Robohelp project with 1 969 topics where I have built three successful exits of WebHelp, but when I generate a CHM file using the same conditional tags as one of the outputs WebHelp, Robohelp constantly crashes on the same subject and produced two events of crash in my Windows event log:

  I restarted my PC and rebooted Robohelp, then aand a conditional tag to exclude the subject of construction and managed to successfully generate the CHM file. I disabled the conditional and tried the following strategies involving all the same two sequential Robohelp falls:

  • Delete the PCD file
  • Delete the topic of the project and recreate it
  • Remove all links to and from this topic
  • Remove the topic from the table of contents
  • Disable conditional expressions
  • Delete the sequence to browse
  • Delete the index
  • Change the path to the CHM file to one that is outside the project
  • Shorten the output path to the CHM file to not have spaces

  That does not surprise me. What seems strange, is that say you that again, the incident occurs if you delete all the content in the topic. Certainly, which seems to indicate that something is perhaps ladle with the name of the file.

  I'd be tempted to try a slight variation on the name of the file and see if it works. Also, try a variation on the title of the topic.

  I am trying to generate a .chm without the function file print. To do this, I have already create new window and remove the button print from the menu bar. Then I generated the chm file. The problem is that I can do printing button disappeared from the menu bar, but the function print still exists in the context menu of the chm file.

  Anyone have this experience please let me know how to remove completely chm file print function.

  Nothing has changed in this regard. I think that there are programs that allow you to edit the context menus, but only on your own machine.

• Using URL's to help chm files

  I look at using RoboHelp to produce files/Guides, help and training manuals at the risk of eliminating the repetative job and keep control of the management of versions. However, our application is a J2EE product based on an ASP model can produce us a separate site for the Robohelp-generated help files and have context sensitive help in the application to open a URL in the help via a reference tag files.
  That is to say the application has a code for example. entitled "Decree of creation", how would it be transmitted to the files in Robohelp to make appear the right pages?

  Welcome to the forum.

  This is not a web application hosted on a server? If so I don't think you want to generate a CHM file help, good format would be WebHelp. Why? See the topic below that explains why CHM files do not work on a server without hacking the registry, your clients might not appreciate.

  Marketing wants our brand image on the icon that is displayed for a file .chm (not the usual page with a yellow question mark).

  Is there a setting to change the associated image to the .chm file? (I don't want the image to aid in our software). They want to distribute files .chm separately, but our brand image to this topic.

  To my knowledge, this icon is from the Microsoft HTML Help Viewer application. It is not anyway I never knew of the change. Heck, even within the Microsoft HTML Help file when you present the CHM, you have two custom buttons that you can activate. And you cannot customize even those.

  The file output and its formatting is defined/created in the Export Action of each adapter FDM script. You can modify this script to print the file exported in any format you want. However, I don't see why you want to do for the entire target specific adapters supplied with FDM, well if we talk about changing the default output of the adapter then PULL, this would be where you would bring changes. There is no magic switch that automatically does for you :-)

  The first page of the wizard gives you the possibility of expansion (2003 compatible) doc or docx (2007 compatible). I don't think the features added in Word 2007 can be saved in format doc but not 100% sure of that.

  Is it possible to generate RH Server7 reports on different topics within a help CHM project? Or RH Server 7 users can only generate reports for WebHelp projects?

  Also, in the CHM file pages can be bookmarked? It is one of the requirements, and as far as I can see, they can't be.

  If this isn't the case, CHM, I would be recognizing all of the recommendations for the output that I can generate with RoboHelp8.

  Related issue: in a CHM file I generated only, the content of the topic is not displayed. I get pages with the error message: the address is not valid. Yet once again, would like to understand why this happens.

  CHM files are designed to be installed locally on each PC, something more that probably explaining your related question, usually on an application for users. As they are installed locally, this means the update is more difficult. Output on the Web (e.g., WebHelp) is stored on an intranet site, server, or web and therefore can be more easily updated. Looks like you may be better to go the route of WebHelp, but without knowing more detail that the decision is best left in your yard.

  Regarding the "bookmarks", do you mean the possibility for a user store a page of help they can refer again at a later date? If so, this can be achieved within a CHM file. In the properties of the window inside your project, there is a section "normal tabs and Windows." Here is a favorite option which adds a tab to the left hand when checked three components of CHM adding. a bookmark in this way is a bit more complicated than in a browser, but it does not work. It also has disadvantages which the data behind these favorites are stored in a HH. DAT file. If this is deleted, the user loses his favorites as well as any other information.

  Finally as I suggested earlier, the CHM files are better executed on a local drive. The reason is that microscope has released an update to security making next useless, unless there are a few years. You will find more details on this update here.

  I was wondering if it is possible to set a maximum file size when generating assets, instead of setting the % quality.

  For example, instead of marking with a layer of background.jpg50% I want to tagf it background.jpg150kb

  It kind of works where the number is less than 10 KB (need to use just the letter K without the B), but does not work for anything over 10 k

  Is this possible to do?

  Not that I know of. Generator is probably 'see' the 10 k as just 10 for the quality setting.

  No reason why you want full control over the size of the file rather than size of the file size or quality of file?
