Is Satellite 1800 712 has USB 2.0 ports?

Now I'm aware is no new laptop even though im wondering if she takes care of USB 2.0? As a transfer of data, from pens to the pc then for laptop ETC. If it is a driver/firmware update available?
As the specification of Toshiba just declare '2 x USB' any help much appreciated, thanks in advance

Jasmine is right. If you want to use the USB 2.0 data transfer speed, you must use USB 2.0 PCMCIA card.

    Hello

I would really appreciate the help. I own a satellite 1800-712. I have receently bought a usb external hard drive for some extra memory (IE Toshiba MK4026GAX USB Device)

When I connect it to my usb port it records any with the computer. The green light so there is power to the hard drive. The usb ports recognized of other fine features (a modem and memory stick)

I tried the external hard drive on a desktop pc and it works fine.

I have downloaded all windows xp service pack updates and updated my bios. Don't know what to do now.

Please help and thank you in advance!

    Hello

Although sometimes, I know that the OS is not able to recognize the external USB device, because the device external USB (HDD) consumes more energy than the 500mA.
The USB ports provide 500mA power and if the device needs more power so it s is not possible for the Windows operating system to recognize the external device.
You have an external power supply for the USB HDD? You should use it.

  • Unable to connect to the Internet with my Satellite 1800 712

    Hello

had to reinstall Windows XP Home on my Satellite 1800-712, unfortunately do not have the recovery disc otherwise it would all be ok.

Now, I can't get on internet, I downloaded new drivers for LAN, they installed ok, LAN is set to autodetect, USB wireless dongle drivers installed everything is ok.

In my tray icon (bottom right) shows the networks but with red cross... I get a message saying that wireless networks are within range, click here to see the networks... when I click, Sun protection comes up saying no. networks in range... aarrrgggh.
    What can I do, please?

    Hello

First you need to check if the wireless network adapter appears in Device Manager (expand network controllers).
If the local network adapter is listed and there is no yellow exclamation point, this means that the wireless network adapter has been installed correctly.
Now you have to activate the Wlan switch (somewhere on the side of the laptop) and the FN + F8 key combination.

Now Wlan is enabled and you should be able to set it up.
You can use a 3rd Wlan tool part for configuration or specific parameters of Win XP.

    Check it!

  • Can not remove the virus. Help, please! Satellite 1800-712

    Hello!

I am running XP Home edition on a satellite 1800-712.

The computer behaves very suspiciously, closing (disc according to the error messages or bad driver) and weird popups appear from nowhere (your computer is damaged - visit such or such website and we'll fix it for you) without me even a browser.

I reinstalled XP with repeatedly Toshiba recovery disks, but it does not help. The virus or anything like that is always there. What should I do? Everything is saved. I just want to do a thorough cleaning of the hard drive, but the recovery discs don't seem to be able to.

    Thanks a bunch!

    Hello

If the reinstallation of the system with the recovery CD does not help, the problem must be somewhere else, but not on the software on the hard drive. Maybe the hard drive itself has a problem, and the software cannot be read properly. Sorry, but at the moment I have no idea better.

  • Failed to create the floppy disk to update the BIOS on the Satellite 1800-712

I was given a Satellite 1800 712 with buggy BIOS (power went down while flashing) then now when the laptop is on a sign shows
BIOS (Block2) is damaged! (Call the repairman)
    and so on...

I downloaded the latest bios for the laptop, but when I try to follow the instructions given (unzip, insert a formatted 1.44 MB floppy, run the *.exe file and a 1.44 MB must be created) nothing happens. When I run the exe (chgbiosa.exe) if I am running windows xp nothing happens and if I'm running BACK said "initial mistake.

In the Archives of the bios is a readme. It says that I need to copy files (BIOFC72T.COM and CHGBIOSA. (EXE) on a 1.44 MB diskette. Well, it is not helped either.

Any ideas what should I do? Thanks in advance.

    Hello

I found this thread in the forum:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=19801&MessageID=72625

The case described in the thread above is very similar to your question.
According to this message that every newer BIOS has a protection mechanism which means that even in the case of an incomplete process of flashing, the area responsible for in the BIOS flash for the upgrade is never deleted.

Generally you should contact the service point in your country for this problem, but perhaps the description in the other thread will help you.
But you know, everything you do is at you own risk

  • Satellite 1800-712 does not start - DC IN flashes orange

    Hi all.

My toshiba laptop Satellite s1800-712 has suddenly stopped working. Whenever I try to turn it on, I get the following blink code that repeats on the DC-IN power icon.

The icon flashes orange in the following diagram. 1 short, 1 long, short 5, 1 x long. Anyone know what this means?

If it helps, I use a TPA90DC APC travel power adapter PSU (as my original toshiba one broken. The APC unit is located at 15V.

I think it's a hardware failure, but that's all that can be easily fixed? I opened the laptop a few times to replace the CPU and clean, but I don't think that the fault is negligence on my part because I always open it in an antistatic environment. To be honest, this laptop to cost me too much money in modernization and if this fault is something that requires expensive repairs, I can just sell it for parts.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Mary,

The blink code is used to locate the real failure so that the repair technicions knowing where to start checking for problems. Unfortunately these codes are published not generally then I suggest that you call a Toshiba authorized repairer and ask their opinion on fault. This way you do not have to engage in costly repairs until you know how much they are likely to cost.

    to get a new one.

    Hello

Have you checked you user manual?
In the manual of the user that was preinstalled on the computer laptop m, I found some compatible players. I think that in the manual you you should also find a list of compatible drives.

I think that you could use a DVD - ROM SD-C2502 or CD-RW/DVD-ROM Toshiba SD-R2002 / SD-R2102 or CD TEAC CD-224th for training

But I think you should take a look in this document yourself.

Did you know that a compatible player you can order the ASP in your country?
If you order the drive of the service partner you can be 100% that this drive is compatible.

This device was shipped with 20 GB HARD drive.
    You again is 40 GB.

If it can be upgraded, until then I go there then?

I was not able to find in any threat on this model.

    Thank you
    Inge

    Hello Inge

Upgrading the CPU is not possible. The processors used in laptops are connected to the motherboard using a process called TCP (tape carrier package). It is a method of permanent connection and is used in the interest of miniaturization and heat dissipation. The only thing you can do is memory expansion. On this path of unity will be vigorously. ;-)

If you need information about the compatible memory module, please write again.

  • Upgrade memory on a Satellite 1800 712

    Hello

I want to upgrade the RAM on my 1800-712.
    In fact, I have a 256 MB PC133 SDRAM.
It is strange that the bus on this type of machine seems to be 100 Mhz!

I want to install a Kingston memory in second slot.
Thus, it is mandatory to install any memory of KTT-SO100/256 (compatible as the Kingston Configurator shows), or I can put the KTT SO133/256?
That the second is cheaper, I don't want to install it?
    Can you confirm compatibility?

    Thank you.

    Hello

It is recommended to use the module with the same bus speed. No doubt it will work, but in my opinion you shouldn't watch the money just on compatibility and not forget that upgrade parts are not damaged.

  • Satellite 1800-712: slow after WXP Pro included SP2 installation

    Hello

I have a Toshiba 1800-712 and I've recently upgraded the memory with another 256 MB.

Before the upgrade the laptop run very fast because there where loads of unnecessary applications installed. I bought a Windows XP and it installed on the laptop with SP2.

Since then, the laptop is very slow to access the DVD drive and the HARD drive.

He ran before that kind of OK with XP Home, but since XP Professional you cannot watch DVD as they stutter and if play you MP3 in Mediaplayer the possibility is also not in sync with the music.

It seems that there is missing specific IDE drivers or the wrong with those supplied with XP.

I had a glance on the toshiba site, but the drivers only I can find that there is the display and audio drivers.

The motherboard seems to be an ALI M5229 Chipset

I need to restore professional XP and re - install my whole machine with XP Home that comes with it?

I also tried the DVD player to be upgraded to the latest Firmware but that does no change.

She is running in UDMA 2 and I tried PIO and I also had a peek into the Bios with IDE Standard or extra but still the same.

    Anyone?

    PT - 1 (at) gmx.net

    Hi James,

In principle your laptop should also work well with XP Pro installed as it did with XP Home. However, I would be inclined to check in the Task Manager to see what processes you really have running and also make sure that your installation of XP Pro is not make the repeated attempts to access a network or network resources.

Also, I would like to run a disk cleanup and Defragmenter of given that the installation process tends to leave the hard drive in a bit of a mess of the nature of the facility.

The fact that your DVD stutter when playing suggests that there are other CPU activity going on in the background.

    Kind regards

  • Satellite Pro M70: What USB 2.0 Port Replicator is compatible?

Would be grateful if someone could advise me on the purchase of a USB 2.0 port replicator.

I think the 3 USB 2.0 ports on my laptop Pro M70 are not enough, and that's why I want to buy a USB 2.0 Port Replicator.

The site of the Toshiba shop specifies USB 2.0 Port Replicator II (UK) with port network, part number: PX1173U-1PRP, price: 49,93 GBP.

It has 4 USB ports 2.0, which would give me a total of 6 USB 2.0 ports, which would be the absolute minimum I want. (It also has 2 PS/2 ports, 1 serial port RS232 and 1 USB 2.0 port network that takes in charge rates of 10 / 100 Mbps).

Can anyone tell if it is powered by the laptop, or by it's own adapter?

Unfortunately, the Web of Toshiba site has advised that it is currently out of stock and are difficult to get in on all the time, as they are the subject of a sort of "green manufacturing" test.

This prompted me to consider buying a replicator USB 2.0 ports alternative and all I would prefer one with more than 4 USB 2.0 ports, and in fact 6 or more USB 2.0 ports would be preferable. I'm not really interested in other types of ports that are often provided with the replicators of USB 2.0 ports.

I would be grateful if someone could recommend/Advisor at a replicator USB 2.0 ports alternative that would be compatible with my laptop Pro M70.

One of my concerns is how the port replicator USB 2.0 Port is powered. I think I would have preferred that the unit is powered by its own adapter, I understand is 5 Volts with 500 milliamps for each port, rather than to the laptop (probably would be less tax on the laptop, with less heating).

    Thank you
    AlanCB

I can't comment on the question whether the Replicator you mention has its own power source, although I suspect, he does

However, I have a satellite Pro M70 too and with a similar problem and wanting a hub to connect to all my external printers, Sandy etc using just one connection, I buy PA3390E-1MPM - a hub of Toshiba, Audio/USB multimedia center, which goes a step further and provides a hub not only for USB sources , but also for the speakers etc.

It has its own power supply to the unit and connects via USB 2.0 to my laptop. It is also stackable with the Toshiba Gigastore 250 GB USB 2.0 external hard drive (PA3392E-1MPS) which I also use for backups, storing external data etc.

Had the two units for 3 months now and everything works fine. I got headr of some problems with people in loss of access to the hard drive, but it seems that it was never if it has been disconnected by pulling the cord out usb, rather than make a ' Safely Remove Hardware to disconnect the USB device and so far have had no probs at all

It has 4 ports, more port network and connections from the speakers for the configurations 2/2.1/4/4.1/5.1 full, more Creative software like drivers, more remote control useful to control audio devices. Oh, and also a Surround sound, and EAX

Maybe a little more of your option, but worth it in my opinion. If you can't find it on the Toshiba site I have purchased from www.insight.com

    Hope that helps
