Lakeshore remote GPIB of VSM?

Hello, I'm controlling a remote Lakeshore VSM via GPIB controller. Unfortunately, the SCAN command doesn't seem to work. I was wondering if there is a good way to send a remote enable command at the Lake? Thanks in advance for any help.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'distance' GPIB, but have you tried the function activate remote (range of GPIB 488.2)?

Hello, ladies and gentlemen.  I'm reading a TRAK Microwave GPS clock.  The clock is a GPIB instrument attached to a card on a remote PC 488.  VISA address for this device is GPIB0::7:INSTR.  I would like to issue the command 'RQLT\r', but failed.  See attached screenshot.

I suspect that the problem is the address of the instrument.  I have no problem to access the clock using Vee Pro.  I thought that this instrument may not yet be registered with LabVIEW, but could not find any application of this instrument in.

If you want to use a resource VISA name, you must use the VISA. If you want to use the GPIB functions, you must use a GPIB (i.e. ' 5') address. I advise to use VISA. You also need to activate remote VISA on the other pc.

  • Instruments GPIB remote access through the GPIBConf device names

    Hello

I am trying to run the Labwindows 2009 SP1 code on a PC based office while trying to exploit the GPIB instruments

on another part of the network.

Normally, this isn't problem with VISA server on the target computer and the use of names of Alias VISA within the

    Office PC code.

But this code was inherited and uses a different method which has been the best over time.

The code uses device name strings that have been defined using the GPIB utility: GpibConfig.exe,.

on the target computer. So when a device is first initialized, the name defined in the GPIB utility is used

by the code and the associate instrument access are reached. It works fine when the code and

the instruments are located on the same PC.

My question: is there some way I can use VISA access server remote GPIB instruments help

defined names on the computer target with the GpibConfig.exe utility?

    Thank you

    Gary.

The low-level GPIB functions have no knowledge functions VISA or aliases. This must be a very old application since the VISA has been around for 10 years. Have you always the source code so you can change your GPIB for VISA?

I accessed GPIB USB HS in the MAX software. As I was not able to communicate NF RLC remotely, so I tried Wizard DRIVER VISA OR according to tutorial Assistant pilot NI VISA , however, thnings went wrong and I am not able to see same GPIB to the MAX software now. What should I do now?

The first picture below shows the GPIB USB HS as shown in the software MAX and the other image shows no GPIB USB HS.

Yet once I installed driver USB GPIB link below:

  • Place HP 34401 in Local with GPIB-USB-HS Mode

    Hello

    I'm using LabVIEW 2010 SP1 to control the 34401 HP with the NI GPIB-USB-HS device. I use I/O built-in 34401 instrument drivers.

If I plugged in everything, the 34401 will be immediately placed in "Remote" mode when I run my software. However, I would like to be able to use LabVIEW to force the 34401 to 'Local' mode Unfortunately I could not find a way to do this. I tried Close.vi, but has no effect.

Here are my planned operation if it makes things clearer:

    1. Launch the software

    2. Initialize the 34401

    3. Place the 34401 in the 4W resistance measurement mode

    4. Pass the 34401 in "local" mode so that the end user can adjust a knob until the desired resistance is obtained while seeing the value of the resistance to change on the 34401

    5. Re-initialize the 34401 when I need to switch to another measure

If not, is there a way to get the 34401 to permanently display how it is taken in remote mode?

The feature I mentioned does exactly the same thing except that you have to do this awkward analysis of the address. It's a VISA function you have just used the search button to find (and have lit context-sensitive help) to obtain explanations of what he does.

  • Driver for Keysight 34461 A DMM instruments works with GPIB, errors with USB

I try to remotely control a DMM of 34461a Keysight using the driver of instruments located here:

    http://sine.NI.com/apps/UTF8/niid_web_display.model_page?p_model_id=21589

The pilot of the aircraft works like a charm the DMM is connected via GPIB, but it error when connected via USB.  I've isolated the problem to "Default Instrument Setup.vi".  When this VI is called in the case of USB, the device is left in a State which translates by a later call a time-out at VISA Read.  The only way I found to get the instrument still talking after this occurs error condition is turned off.  I have an another 34461a with the same behavior, is probably not a hardware problem.  I can successfully run the example 'Agilent 3446 X series Acquire Single.vi' via USB if I remove all calls to "Default Instrument Setup.vi.

Everyone knows this unit or a similar problem?

    I use Windows 7, 2014 SP1 LabVIEW, NI-VISA 14.0.1 and GPIB-USB-HS + (OR-488. 2 14.0) when using a GPIB.

  • GPIB connection block manual access to the DG535

    Dear all,

I'm relatively new to the labviw. I wrote a program (in labview 7.1) to contact generator of Princeton Reserch systems delay DG-535 using GPIB. It works very well! However, I have a little problem here. As soon as I have the DG535 communication using labview program it blocks the manual operation of the DG535. Even after I stop the program, I can't access all channels. I have to restart the DG535 to operate it manually and it repeates every time that I try to communicate via GPIB using my vi. I tried closing the labview to see if communication is complete and I can access the DG535 maually, but it did not work. Someone in this forum had the same problem? If it of normal or not. If this is not normal, so what is the solution to put an end to the DG535 via GPIB communication and reactivate the manual access without retarting the DG535.

    Thank you much in advance.

It is quite normal for an instrument to stay in remote mode. Most of the instruments have a "local" button Alternatively, you can issue a command to GPIB GTL (go to Local) with VISA.

  • GPIB and Ehternet

    Hi all

I use Yokogawa WT 500. I am able to communicate via GPIB and Ethernet, but not 1 by 1 (I mean 1 gpib and ethernet). If I communicate to the GPIB communication is established... If communicate immediately with next Ethernet error insufficient source is to come help me out pls * (Ip address iam sending as resourse is correct)

    Bilel

Communcations Interface user manual says that two interfaces cannot be used simultaneously. (page 3-2).  It gives no information on how fast it can switch from one mode to another.  It is likely you would need pass remotely in GPIB locally and then return local Ethernet remote.  It's probably not very fast.

  • 104mxi-a LeCroy set up labels of tracks via GPIB

Does anyone know how to manipulate the labels through labview GPIB?  I can't find a command in the manual which would allow me to add a label.  I also need to position the label as well.

    Hello

The command for this will be a command 'Automation' which is written with the control command remotely 'VBS '.

To set the label on a channel (let's call it Cx): VBS ' app. Acquisition.Cx.LabelsText = 'put your text here' "

Notice the single quotes around the command 'Automation '.  The VBS command is a command remotely (written as a string on the device) and the automation controls are objects in Visual Basic.  The VBS command indicates the scope to interpret everything between single quotes, as if it were being sent directly from a VBS script.

You can turn on the labels: VBS ' app. Acquisition.Cx.ViewLabels = True'

The value can be: True, False or - 1 (true), 0 (false).

    See you soon,.

  • HP5350B does not not at the controls GPIB

    Hello

I have been using the HP5350B, an old frequency counter HP for a remote control application. I use the GPIB commands to send and receive messages from the instrument. I have attached the screenshot of code that uses a GPIB read block to read the value of the instrument. Earlier, when I used a connector of the GPIB-USB-HS, I was able to get the values you want by using this code. Recently, I got a PCI-GPIB, I installed in my computer and since then have tried to read measages of the instrument with this card in the computer, but I did have a success to reading the value of the instrument using the same code. I get the error shown in the attachment. The only difference I found between the GPIB-USB-HS and card PCI-GPIB is the change of the address of the instrument for GPIB1::7:INSTR(for_PCI-GPIB_card) to GPIB0::7:INSTR (GPIB-USB-HS), who appeared in NI MAX.

Now when I connect the GPIB-USB-HS to the computer and try to communicate with the device with the same code I am unable to reproduce the results I was getting earlier. I'd appreciate your feedback to help me solve this problem.

    Thank you

Directly from the LabVIEW help file

When there are several controllers GPIB that LabVIEW can be used, a prefix of the string address in the form ID:address (or ID: If no address is required) determines the controller that uses a specific function. For example, to set the GPIB 2 controller to talk to a device at address 3, use the prefix 2:3. If a controller ID is not present, the function by default controller (or bus) number 0.

You have changed your hardware configuration, such as '7' is no longer unambigeous.  Use ' 0:7 ' or ' "1:7".

  • RT GPIB and office

    I am running the following:

In time real Labview Desktop 11.0

    NI-VISA Server 5.1

and using a NI PCI-GPIB card to connect to a couple of different pieces of laboratory equipment.

When I connect to this remote system from a different workstation using MAX, I see GPIB0 (PCI-GPIB) under devices and Interfaces on the RT machine, but I can't find a way to see the GPIB instruments that are connected to the bus.

I don't think it's an electrical on the bus problem because when I start my computer windows instead of RT, I can see the instruments very well using Max on this machine.

PS: My computer that I use to connect remotely to the machine RT running a current version of Labview

    Hey Rick,.

I did some tests and it seems that it is just how the GPIB devices appear on targets real-time VISA Interactive Control.  It may seem a little confusing, but yes, they are supposed to appear on the local host.  It seems that apart from the confusion there doesn't seem to be a real problem, I'm correct?

  • Communication with the niVisa (GPIB) do not work next to a serial interface

    Hello

I programmed an application in C++ (Visual C++ with MFC, running on XP). On the one hand, I control devices of different measure (also from different suppliers). All communication is done with niVisa (Version 4.6). On the other side, I send remote commands to a generator via the serial interface. To do this, I use CSerialPort, it's a Wrapper MFC of the Windows API. Thus, niVisa is not used for the serial connection.

It works without any problem until I connect the measurement equipment (any type of) via Ethernet.

When I now connect the scope via GPIB (I use a NI PCI-GPIB), communication works without any problem as long as I wouldn't send anything on RS232. After I send something to my generator (and close the com-port), the next Commander of VISA will give me an error (VI_ERROR_ABORT). Now, I can log in again and everything works normally again (until I have again send something on the com-port).

For me, it's a really strange question. Any ideas? Any help?

    Best regards

    Michael

OK, I finally found the problem.

When you use the serial port, you can write data with normal writing (WriteFile()) function or with the tip (WriteFileEx()). Do not now ask me for more details on the difference, it's something with the mode "" overlap...

After I send all the data with WriteFileEx, VISA-connection via GPIB produces an error. So I went to the basis of WriteFile() and everything works. Don't ask my consistency betwenn VISA (with GPIB and just GBIB) and the connection series. I'm just happy right now...

  • Connection ethernet or GPIB with Keithley 2612

    Hallo

    Here's my situation:

I'm relatively new to LabVIEW programming and want to install a configuration of measurement with LabVIEW and a SMU double Keithley 2612.

If I m work myself through Labview Beginners Guides and how to connect a measuring device with the first simple LabVIEW program.

Since I Don t own a GPIB-USB adapter for the moment, I was thinking of using Ethernet for the EMS connection that gets ist own IP address. The connection to the PC works and SMU SMU ethernet can be remote controlled.

    Here's my problem:

I can´t find (usable) guides for the installation of LabView via Ethernet.

My 500 pages book 'Introduction to LabVIEW' (as of 2009) doesn´t have even a hint for an ethernet connection, while the GPIB, RS232 and CAN are covered pretty well.

    Here's my question:

Should I continue to try to get LabVIEW working on Ethernet, or would it be better to buy a new adapter USB GPIB.

Does anyone know good Howto for creating Ethernet connections?

Should I just the bad 'Introduction to Labview?

The use of Ethernet has disadvantages compared to the GPIB-USB?

I'm happy to answer additional questions.

    Thank you.

Download the Labview driver for the series of 26xxA from Keithley web site.

For a Visa resource string use something of the form: "tcpip::aaa.bbb .ccc. ddd::instr" where aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd is the ip address of the instrument that you can get through the façade or run MAX and auto-le discover.

When you finally get a USB-GPIB converter all you have to do is change the resource in the form of gpib string: GPIB::XX:instr «»

  • GPIB - Recovery timeout in the IBRD

    Hello

Appellant to the IBRD of in a C++ program, I sometimes get an error in time-out (identified by checking which bits are defined in ibsta).

Assuming that the only problem is that I have not put long time enough (ie the remote device will really answer at a later date), is there a way to recover from this.  For example, like the appellant IBRD again until I get an answer?  The GPIB card is left in a State where the recovery is possible, or should be given?

What I'm doing right now is to abandon all hope and back out of the cycle of any measure - that does not please the users program a little!

    Thank you

    Bill

    Hi André,.

I think you have some very good suggestions here, and I don't see the logic behind your way of thinking.

For now I have worked around the problem by using a more pessimistic time-out value (300 seconds), but he will certainly try some things next time I had the chance to work on the side of the application error recovery.  At least I can see now that I should be able to do better than "Turn off PC... and start again".

    Thanks again,

    Bill

PS thanks for the references too - I guess I'll do some background reading!
