Licience for Workstation 9

When I passed the VCP 5 test I got a licience to workstation 8.  When I turned on my computer today, he invites me to upgrade to Workstation 9.

Is this my works licience for Workstation 9 or is it 8 specific workstations?

Thanks for the information and have a good long weekend (day of work on Monday to the United States),

Anthony.

License keys only work for a specific version, and I don't think that the free license can be improved. However, you can try to see if the license shows also extensible in your My VMware account.

  • Merger of converter for workstation or ESX

    Hello!

Is it possible to do a Fusion converter for workstation or ESX?

Anyone know of any option or howto?

    Thank you.

When you create the virtual machine in workstation, you just place the vmdk file in the virtual machine folder and point to it (use an existing hard disk) disk.

I'm trying to move the entire folder from mac to windows in order to verify if the virtual machine still works or not, but I think the .vmx file mac file must be different from the .vmx file in windows, because they use different types of partion, disk, system files and files speaking.

Yes, you can use the converter to convert your VM workstation or Fusion to the ESX format. (see this link)

  • Windows 7 drivers for workstation mobile hp nw9440

The hp nw9440 mobile workstation is compatible with windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit windows 7? If so were if you can find the drivers?

    Hello:

The mobile workstation nw9440 is not supported by HP for Windows 7.

What I would do, is to connect to the internet after installing W7 and launch Windows Update utility. Who will download some W7 drivers for your laptop.

For any still missing, use the Vista Business 32 or 64 bit drivers, according to the case.

If you can't find a driver for something, please post back and I'll try to help you.

Your laptop should be able to run W7, even if it is not "officially" supported by HP to make.

  • UPS for workstation hp z 840

    Hi guys,.

We bought a new z840 and z 640 hp workstation. right now we are little confused about buying a UPS for my computer. the people where we bought the workstation suggest buying UPS apc.

they give us the option to 3 ups

    1. APC 1500-980 watts
    2. APC 1300 - 2000 watt
    3. APC-1980 2200 watt

According to the product page of the hp z840 have a diet 1125 watt and z640 925 watts required Power suply. Anyone have any suggestions?. We will use two monitor for each workstation that consumes 20 watts per each (27 inch led screens). can I use the apc 2200 for two or more workstations? any help?

I would be more than enough for two workstations with monitors the APC 2200.  I use a much smaller for my computer and the monitor with no ill effects.  Just be aware that if the power goes off and no one is around to shut down computers, etc. that the INVERTER will be only last a while, then the computers need to be stopped.  Using the PowerChute Software will stop the computers in a predefined time assuming that the software is configured correctly.

  • BSOD after conversion to Amazon EC2 instance for workstation 8

I have an existing instance of Windows 2008 R2 in Amazon EC2, which I am trying to convert to VMware Workstation so I can use it to test scenarios.  I followed the steps listed in the following article and was able to correctly convert the instance in a virtual machine in VMware Workstation 8.0.5:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US & cmd = displayKC & externalId = 1018015

The problem I'm having is that when I turn the virtual computer I get a BSOD during the boot sequence (see attached screenshot).  I saw a fix from Microsoft for BSOD caused by storport.sys, however, this patch describes a problem that occurs gradually over a period of time due to a leak of memory, which doesn't seem like the same problem I am experiencing.  I think it has something to do with a mismatch of disk controller drivers.  How can I solve this problem?

    http://filedb.experts-exchange.com/incoming/2013/03_w10/639804/vm.png

You need to access somehow on the target disks. You can use VMware Workstation to mount the VMDK target or you can temporarily attach the drive containing the Windows directory to an another Windows VM (in this case, you must open disk management and select command analyze disks in the Actions menu and the new virtual disk from VM Amazon converted should become visible). After that:

    * run regedit on this machine

    * Select the HKLM hive

    * on the file menu, select "Load hive" command

    * Go to the hive of the registry SYSTEM target (under WINDOWS\system32\config\system * on the target disk * that was attached to the virtual machine, but * No * the directory of Windows running)

    * Choose a name for the new key (e. g. ec2-system)

    * Go to ec2-system\ControlSet001\Services

    * Search for the three drivers and delete the keys of any

    * then again select the ec2-system under HKLM key

    * on the file menu, select the command "Unload hive" and close Regedit

    * Remove the VMDK mounted or detach the virtual disk target virtual machine "temporary".

Turn on the converted virtual computer

  • Materials for workstation boards

    Hello

I am new to the community and have already searched for this but haven't found the info I need, so apologies if this is a common question.

I'm about to build a new PC to run Workstation on. I will use it to execute nested ESXi/Hyper-V hosts and a lot of lab for VMware View etc laboratories.

Currently, I have several old PCs/servers, but would only turn on a PC for my Labs, as my little Home Office becomes so hot.

Is it worth the wait for the new Ivy Bridge coming processors - any day now - or a current i7 will be fine, if so, what is the best i7 and chipset to use?

I've read great post of Sammy (http://boerlowie.wordpress.com/2011/12/01/building-the-ultimate-vsphere-lab-part-2-the-hardware/) but I want 32 GB of minimum RAM really because I will be hammering with lots of virtual machines at one time or another.

Already, I have some SSD and SATA drives more ready, but I was wondering if there is a HCL or similar to nested hosts ESXi/Hpyer-V?

Does anyone have any other recommendations?

So, I can't really go wrong when choosing material then?

Nothing I could think. If the material is supported by the operating system, VMware Workstation should work fine.

    What is the i7 - 2600K or i7 - 2600S?

It's an i7-2600 3.40 GHz CPU (without "S" or "K"). I currently have a domain controller Windows 2008R2 and vCenter Server (including iSCSI target) and ESXi two hosts 5.0U1 lit in VMware Workstation and the processor is almost empty. (No VM nested under tension).

Virtualization technology for Directed i/o (VT-d) Intel is important?

No, what is important is that 'VT - x' and 'Execute Disable Bit' are both enabled in the BIOS and that the processor supports EFA.

  • Can't not copy - paste to work for Workstation Player 12

    Hi all

I am Windows 7 64 as host with Linux Mint 17.2 as a guest.

I installed the VMWare tools and have shared between the two, so folder * something * working at least

However, I can't just managed to copy - paste between host and guest, regardless of the 'management', and what I do...!

Someone has any advice / tips / ways to debug this issue?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello

My bad, managed to miss the little 'Player' in the title of your question.

Guess I'm still getting used to that the player now also has "Workstation" in the name.

The parameters of insulation look good.

VMware Player indeed does not have the characteristic shared virtual machine so it can't be the issue.

VMware Player must run a process on the guest in order to provide the feature.

What the output you get when you run:

    PS AX | grep vmware

In addition what desktop environment are you running Mint?

In the past, it was supplied via the command vmware-toolbox, this command no longer exists (there is a variant of vmware-toolbox-cmd, but it does not look like it provides copy & paste integration) if I'm not mistaken, this feature is now provided by vmware-user process.

If the ps-ax above command shows a vmtoolsd process, kill it via the process number and run vmware-user (as a normal user)

Here is my test of this output:

$ sudo ps ax | grep vmware
      1514 ? Ssl 0:00 /usr/sbin/vmware-vmblock-fuse -o subtype=vmware-vmblock,default_permissions,allow_other /var/run/vmblock-fuse
      2301 ? Sl 0:04 /usr/lib/vmware-tools/sbin64/vmtoolsd -n vmusr --blockFd 3
      2895 pts/4 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto vmware
    ~$ kill 2301

Now test and see if he has been killed correctly:

~$ sudo ps ax | grep vmware
      1514 ? Ssl 0:00 /usr/sbin/vmware-vmblock-fuse -o subtype=vmware-vmblock,default_permissions,allow_other /var/run/vmblock-fuse
      2301 ? Dl 0:04 /usr/lib/vmware-tools/sbin64/vmtoolsd -n vmusr --blockFd 3
      2898 pts/4 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto vmware

Still there, so I was a little inpatient, seems he needs time to clean properly, IOW do not not a kill-9

    Another try:

~$ sudo ps ax | grep vmware

      1514 ? Ssl 0:00 /usr/sbin/vmware-vmblock-fuse -o subtype=vmware-vmblock,default_permissions,allow_other /var/run/vmblock-fuse
      2910 pts/4 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto vmware

    Now gone.

    ~$ vmware-user
~$ sudo ps ax | grep vmware
      1514 ? Ssl 0:00 /usr/sbin/vmware-vmblock-fuse -o subtype=vmware-vmblock,default_permissions,allow_other /var/run/vmblock-fuse
      2995 pts/4 S 0:00 /usr/lib/vmware-tools/sbin64/vmtoolsd -n vmusr --blockFd 3
      3022 pts/4 D 0:00 /usr/lib/vmware-tools/sbin64/vmtoolsd -n vmusr --blockFd 3
      3032 pts/4 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto vmware

    Commissioning, the list again:

~$ sudo ps ax | grep vmware
      1514 ? Ssl 0:00 /usr/sbin/vmware-vmblock-fuse -o subtype=vmware-vmblock,default_permissions,allow_other /var/run/vmblock-fuse
      2995 pts/4 Rl 0:01 /usr/lib/vmware-tools/sbin64/vmtoolsd -n vmusr --blockFd 3
      3162 pts/4 S+ 0:00 grep --color=auto vmware

And the normal demon is now running.

If the vmtoolsd process is not displayed in the list, then just run vmware-user (yet once just run as a normal user) and it should start the daemon as above.

Try copy & paste now works.

  • Is there any update for VMware Tools for Workstation 8.0.3?

I've never installed a new version of VMware Workstation without the need to upgrade VMware tools in each of my virtual machines.  After the upgrade to Workstation 8.0.3 there was no prompt to update VMware Tools and he says that it is up-to-date.  Was there no new version of VMware Tools with this upgrade, or am I missing something simple just?

    Thank you

    ~ J

What I see on VMware Server, VMware Tools 8.8.2 are used in both VMware Workstation 8.0.2 and 8.0.3.  So, looks like two issues CVE VMware Workstation 8.0.3 addresses has been fixed in the base files not tools packages.

  • Question of graphics acceleration for Workstation 6.5

    Hello-

I'm new to VMware and have not been able to find a difinitive re graphics acceleration response in VMware Workstation 6.5

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on the host (unfortunately) and Win XP reviews.

I have a Nvidia GeForce 9800 512 MB graphics card, but I don't know if he is recognized on the guest operating system.

When I check the system on reviews, I said that my graphics card is VMware SVGA II and when I try to pop in the CD that came with my graphics card to install the drivers, I get a message saying that there is no material on my computer to match the drivers on the CD.

So, in essence, the question is this - I just installed VMware, I have Adobe CS3 on it, and I want the best possible graphics acceleration. If any can / should I do

Thank you very much in advance

    -Andrey

P.S. I found some info on this site to enable graphics acceleration by clicking some .vmx file and typing a line of code (I'm not sure what that meant), but it was classified in Workstation 5.5, so I don't know if it is still topical.

In the prompt: right click on the desktop, select Properties.  Settings tab.  Advanced button.  Troubleshoot tab.  Move the slider to the right.

Can someone tell me how to measure the latency & availability for workstation windows in IPM.

You can measure the latency. Just add the Windows host as an Ad Hoc under the IPM objective > Collection Management > devices. Then create your collector with desired source, this ad hoc goal and your operation Echo IP device. The reports will tell you when operations timed out, and what the latency was for the duration of the collector.

  • Can not find Workstation 11 documents that specify host for Linux operating system support

I had all the versions of the workstation since version 3 or 4, and in all cases, Workstation ran on a Linux OS support.  For now, I have both Debian and Red Hat Linux workstations and prefer to stay with Red Hat for my work of VMware Workstation. However I find no actual docs for workstation 11 who tell me what rev of Red Hat Linux is supported. Also, I don't see the real support as available contracts more. Once upon a time, you could buy support workstation. I already have systems of vSphere 5.5 to work and they have full support, but I can't support 7 x 24 production on my computer it seems. in any case, what is the actual supported Red Hat Linux tricks? 6.6 worm or am I stuck goes Red Hat 7?

Thanks to anyone who really knows.

    response to me here:

After a bunch of research, I get to a page that tells me to get the compatibility guide:

    VMware Workstation 11 Documentation Centre

    Who gets finally me:

    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php

Which is useless for workstation because it lists only the products of ESXi.

Always to research... and I get this:

    http://www.VMware.com/resources/compatibility/search.php?deviceCategory=software

Nope... It does not help... I select "Host OS" and is told to go elsewhere:

The host operating system compatibility information has been moved to the following location:

    http://KB.VMware.com/kb/2100429

Host operating system support information (2100429)

    Goal

Supported host operating system data are removed from the Compatibility Guide VMware (VCG) to other articles of the basis of knowledge (KBs).
This article KB then told me to go somewhere else to:

Operating systems supported for VMware Workstation guests (2088579)

    your da!
The answer is that 11 workstations is supported on some types of Linux and the most notable are:
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5.10
    Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5
Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0 (note: 7 RHEL is horrible)
The answer is therefore a flat NO WAY for Debian or one of its close brothers.  Strictly big business Linux here.
Nice hide details in seventeen deep research.
