Lightroom eat when importing space of C: drive

Guys,

When I import pictures my C drive is exhausted very quickly in space. I have only 5GB spare parts because it's a SSD drive and when I import about 10 photos that I find myself with only 200 MB! It is causing all sorts of problems and I was wondering if there was a way to move the cache to import (which I assume is the problem) to another drive?

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Yes, you can put the cache on any player, as long as it is a reasonably quick drive / with a fast connection.

I would not put the cache on an external USB drive because the USB connection is too slow. But the internal drives are beautiful and external eSata drives are very good.

Just go > Edit > Preferences > files Management tab. At the bottom, is the section for and on the side right, you can the location.

You will probably find even that LR works faster when the Cache is on a drive other than the C drive where (I assume) LR resides.

One last thing: If you have enough put readers cache not on the same drive when the LR catalog is - who will also accelerate LR.

  • 4.2 Lightroom crashes when importing

I recently moved 4.2 Lightroom to my new PC in Windows 8. All modules work fine except when trying to import from my card or my PC drive, then the program grinds stops and crashes often. Program worked fine on my old Windows Vista system. The only things I moved from Vista PC were photos, Lighroom catalog file and Lightroom preference file. Support Adobe suggests trying to run Lightroom to different user on my PC, I tried, but no difference. If it makes a difference, LR is loaded on my C: SSD drive and photos, catalog, etc. on my D: drive. Any thoughts?

  • Lightroom crashes when importing, iPhone a trigger

The latest version of Lightroom CC, 2015.2.1, continues to be unstable, crashing constantly, taking usually Windows desktop down with it requiring a reboot of the entire system.

The import module and its new GUI seems to be a trigger for this behavior. By clicking import, sometimes LR crashes immediately without displaying the import screen, sometimes he half-displays the screen to import as a transparency on the normal screen then freezes and sometimes the import screen becomes fully visible but then more often as otherwise LR and the crash even when Windows desktop.

Although this behavior may happen at any time, try to import photos from an iPhone ensures a fatal full system shutdown.

2015 Lightroom versions have all been more unstable than previous versions. These problems seem to be centered around video issues. I have an AMD Radeon graphics card and had to rollback repeatedly last year drivers (as well as uncheck LR graphics options) for LR to work. And each new version of LR seems to require to start from scratch to get the program, the operating system and graphics card all talk to each other. This time, they're not talking.

Adobe, what do you think? Similar problems are reported on the net.

Any help with this mess is greatly appreciated.

    Hi ejbSFO

    Greetings!

Although this behavior may happen at any time, try to import photos from an iPhone ensures a fatal full system shutdown.

If the accident is specific to the iPhone, it is because Lightroom performs an analysis of all the devices where the pictures would be. He has the problem where it cannot correctly identify a smartphone as a "hard disk". So, if you set your iPhone to connect as a support MTP device. The question could not arise.

  • Rename files in Lightroom 3 when importing (problems)

I can trouble importing files into Lightroom name where I want to custom their name - sequentially. I import the data to a folder on my hard drive in the folder that contains all of my files in lightroom. I am able to import and rename files in folders with ease. Others said Lightroom 3 couldn't have their name. Why? If I try to import and rename in LR2 I have no problem. I'm basically a Nikon generated file, say DSC0001. NAVE and rename in Ireland 07-30 - 08.NEF. Lightroom 3 cannot do. Anyone know why? Thank you.

I'm renaming all my during the import of the NAVE.

    Here's how:

    and it works very well.

There is another problem with the import you might encounter. The actual files on the file system and records, he presents in the library do not correspond regarding the rental structure. Try to pass will result in an error message that the file cannot be moved because it is already there. If you run this as well, just let me know for a solution. Hope that Adobe fixes this annoying very quickly.

  • 6.6 Lightroom crashes when importing each time

Hi I have a relatively new version of Lightroom 6.6, purchased in March 2016. It is basically useless, because it will no more allow me to import the photos to change.

Description of the problem: as soon as I click on the button IMPORT, a dialog box appears indicating LR has stopped working and will close.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the program several times, and there is no change in operational capability. It crashes always everytime.

Really nice Adobe have no support real tech for this program.

  • Lightroom crash when importing photos from an SD card using iMac 5 K.  Tried several cards, tried to restart, same problem.

Since upgrading to LR 2015.2 my LR crashes each time I have import from SD card.  With the help of the new iMac, 16g memory.  Anyone have any ideas?

  • When you import photos into Lightroom 5 take disk space?

I store all my photos on the D drive on my PC, Lightroom 5 is installed on the C drive. When I import my pictures in my library using the Add option should they take place on the C drive and D drive? They appear to do, but I thought that they would not be using the Add option rather than move or copy. Can someone please advise?

    Thank you very much

    Stephen Cooper.

Where your LR catalog?  If it is on your C drive, additional space only on C should be for the information added to the catalog and previews, which must be low, unless you generate 1:1 previews, which can be larger and take more space.

  • Lightroom CC 2015.3 crashes when importing

Since I've upgraded to version 2015.3, I can import is more photos.  I tried to import from SD card and a hard drive, but both show the same failure.

    I am running Windows 7.

First of all, when I start the import process, the display of the grid does not display previews of new photos.  If I double-click on a photo, he will show me the preview in full screen.  It shows previews of older photos I've already imported.  But in the grid, the new photos are all white.

Then, I select copyand allow to Rename the files as I always do.  When I click on the import button, I get the screen of importation, that says "import...". "The status bar in the top left says" copy and import photos ", and the progress bar starts about 2/3 full.  It remains there, but no matter how long wait.  Occasionally, I get a handful of imported photos, but most of the time, no pictures are imported.

When I give up and click on the X to cancel, a popup says, "no photos or videos not found to import.

I also supported my catalog, thinking that the optimization step might help.  But it did not help.

I also tried to import into a new catalog, but that did not help.

To hang when importing - Lightroom Forums, I found:

Hi, I encountered the same problem with LR 6.3 autonomous and it fixed when I connected in Adobe Creative cloud before running Lightroom.

I started the creative application of Cloud, and I was not signed in.  I registered, and the import was successful.

So I think that was the problem: I was not connected to the cloud to create, at least as far as the cloud app was concerned.

Hi, I want to migrate thousands of images of Aperture library 3.6 to Lightroom and when I double click on Aperture App it won't open. I'm on OSX Yosemite 10.10.5 and I keep the nearly 200 gigabytes of photos on a separate hard drive so I can get more old photos looking at the content of the package and by copying and pasting in a recovery file, but it will be painful and very long. • 6.3 Lightroom (Mac) freezes when importing

    Hi all

Due the fact that Apple has stopped development of opening I had to do a switch after several years of feeling 100% comfortable with an opening. After some research, it became clear that most of the people would recommend Lightroom. So I bought a copy.

Import of my opening book is very well and included all my projects and notes (very important!). So far so good.

Now, I tried to import photos newly shot of my Nikon D7100. Tried with the cable. Tried with the SC card in my Macbook Air. Lightroom still freezes when importing or is back with the 'message' that none of the pictures could be read.

Returned to the opening. Connected to the camera. Quick import and 100% OK.

I can't believe that Adobe releases a new version with such a major problem... Very frustrating... want my money back!

Can anyone help? Is that a known issue - the fixes proposed in the forums don't work not (import options)? Will there be an update to Lightroom soon?

    Thank you!

  • Not intentional develop Preset applied when importing - Lightroom CC (2015)

This week (April 25, 2015), I upgraded to LRCC (2015) 8.1 for Windows and Mac OSX Yosemite and today I imported 400 + RAW images, felled at a concert of music from last night in my Windows box. I do not use import Presets, preferring to the hand-to indicate the my options at the time of importation.

Today, I chose my usual Preset to develop... 'Profile goal, by default, that does what it says on the Tin - apply the default lens profile import. There nothing else... or so I thought.

After that importation, I noticed that images looked a bit "weird" and I checked the story... the default lens profile has shown in history (except an entry "Of Metadata" that I had not seen before, but suppose a reference using the keywords applied when importing). The 'strangeness' was in fact caused by one another develop preset called "Cave in rock" (a custom preset, I designed myself) and, if by chance or not, was be the first Preset in my list. Checking the settings to develop on the right panels, confirmed all the 400 + images had been imported with the cave in the rock applied.

I checked the history of a random selection of 12 images; all showed the parameters of development, such as applied, but none showed the name preset in the history panel. My custom "cave in rock" this DOES have the preset 'Goal profile, default' included in it, but maybe it's a coincidence.

I import RAW of Canon CR2 to a 5 d Mk III files, convert to DNG and build 1:1 previews. Adobe has changed the import process in LRCC.

I returned to import LR5.7 to try it, but it does the same thing now, which he has not really done it before! The Presets have been improved as part of the transition to the DRES?

    Everyone knows about this phenomenon?

the metadata entry I think that means that he support parameters of a metadata xmp file that is next to your raw files. There are everything in the folder you are importing from? If you shot raw + JPEG, the instructions may be in the JPEG file.

In any case it is easy to fix. Just select them in the library grid view and press reset. Reapply the correction of lens preset and sync.

IT is possible that you inadvertently set a default value for the camera.  You can try to reset those preferences-> presets if reset the images don't come back to where it should.
