Like Imager Wininstall BootCamp USB key

Recently, I used the Bootcamp Assistant (in El Capitan, 10.11.5) to create a bootable Windows 10 USB and install Windows 10 on my mid-2012 Unibody MacBook Pro (15 ", not the Retina display). Installation Windows 10 using only the ISO 10 Windows doesn't seem to be an option available to me.

I used my 32 GB Sandisk Extreme drive, and I would like to make a functional image of it, preferably an ISO, but not necessarily free and my USB drive for general use. Given that my laptop with an optical drive, I wouldn't mind being able to burn this image to a DVD double layer.

I know the disk utility can make a picture of the USB drive. I don't know if I can create a bootable USB drive or DVD, use this picture in the future.

Has anyone tried this successfully? All the tutorials I can find for Boot Camp explain how to create the USB from Microsoft ISO Installer. Nothing, I found talking about the other way. I've seen some tutorials for USB bootable ISO with ImgBurn (Windows), but usually they say probably, they do not work for the EFI boot.

Thanks for looking

You can use the OSX Terminal dd command to create an image and preserve the ability to start the image of USB. THE will create a DMG that you can restore later into a USB port, but to make it bootable requires GPT Fdisk and marking the MBR as Bootable. On the Macs 2015 and, later, there is no installer USB installation.

    Everyone,

The following utility has worked very well for me:

    Universal-USB-Installer - 1.8.3.7

    I downloaded from:

    www.pendrivelinux.com

Then I downloaded a Linux. ISO image, created the bootable USB key with the utility above, with the. ISO image and then put to the test.

I can run Unix Ubuntu from a USB key bootable containing the operating system on it.

I like windows, especially Windows 7, but issues of security and business needs, well I'm Linux as an alternative to explore, rather than just Apple, which they say is unhackable. Laughing out loud!.

  • How can I create a system image on my USB key?

I just bought an asus ux31a screen touch new with windows 8.  I want to create a backup so if my hard drive fried or my windows 8 is totally messed up, I can restore everything.

I don't have a cd drive on my ultrabook.

So, I assumed that what I had to do was to create a system image on a flash drive, I stuck in one of my usb ports.  I chose my "disk removable disk D:" which is my 16 GB flash drive (seems only 14.93 GB is however useable).  He first told me that my drive needs to be formatted in NTFS.  So I did it.  Now it is said that it is not "a valid backup location.

What I am doing wrong? Thank you.

    • Can I use Rescue and Recovery to save several images on a simple USB key?
    • If so, how the sw keep separate files?
    • Will it still work if I use two different versions, Rescue and Recovery, (4.3 for XP) and 4.5 for W7?

    • Is there a better way to do it (including using different sw)?

If you open disk management, you will see Disk 0 with more than one partition. If you want to regenerate a HD in return the same you'll want all or at least two partitions. You will notice the boot partition Active is not C Windows player, but a partition called System_Drv (at least in my system). These two will be required when you image a new drive. Otherwide you will have a fixation with external tools to start.

  • How can I put Windows on a USB key which will be bootable by BootCamp and how transfer the activation code?

    * Original title: Windows 7 - CD to USB

I bought Windows 7 (the two CD 32 & 64) many years for use on my early 2008 MacBook Pro, with an optical drive, via BootCamp. It worked very well.

  • I would like to add a folder of photos on a USB key for time machine backups

I have a new time capsule, and I am attaching a USB hard drive that previously held some my time machine backups and all my photos. I would now add the photo of backups auto time folder machine on the time capsule. But in time machine preferences I don't see the folder or the USB key. Although I can see the USB in the finder as well as the time capsule window. I can copy and paste the photo time capsule file it's just I wanted to time machine for backup for me. Any help much appreciated.

The time Capsule is what we call a 'network' of the road, so when the USB is connected to the time Capsule, which would make it a "network" drive as well.

Unfortunately, Time Machine is unable to back up a 'network' of the time Capsule drive.

If you want to save the data or the USB disk using Time Machine drive, you will need to connect the drive directly to your Mac and then it will be saved with your Mac... assuming that the drive has been formatted for Mac to Mac OS extended (journaled) format. Then, the player will become a "local" drive

If you need to keep the USB connected to the time Capsule, the only way to back up data automatically on a schedule would be to use a commercial program like Carbon Copy Cloner or ChronoSync.

I would like to know how to install Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 Enterprise from a USB key, please.

I'm not trying to run either on the USB key, I just need to know how to install from a USB key. I tried Multiboot, grub for DOS and other, but they do not seem to work :/

I am going through a book that uses these two to form Microsoft MCITP: Server 2008 Administrator and if I could install these Via USB, this would save my records and a lot of hassle... basically just for convenience, as everything that I need will be on a stick * lol *.

Otherwise, I'll have to use discs instead :)

  • If you like a challenge? Weird USB problem, he does not see my own USB key, but he sees another USB, but on other computers - it - see my USB key! P.S., Already tried a lot of solutions (unemployed). I'm an ITer.

    Hey there.

I have the weirdest problem ever. I have a computer that does not see my USB, other computers but do not see my USB.
Now, we tried another usb key (with usbstick I mean a ^_^ usb flash drive) and he DOES not see that stick! My own stick is a SANDISK Cruzer without U3, just ordinary storage 8gigs. None of the firmware see-as-CD. And the other was a different brand, but I don't remember.

I also tried to plug a very specific device (A P2000 keystrokes recorder, it is a device that recorded incidents, I work for the firedepartment/police/ambulance and it records events), but he doesn't know that aswell of device, as if it has never been plugged in (we have installed the correct drivers for it).

Now, I did some standard troubleshooting (check drivers, drivers of reupdating) and I removed all the usb drivers, restarted, drivers were back as usual, is not yet connect mine but it connects the other stick. My usb key works perfectly well with all computers but this one (same for the recorder to P2000), reupdated and installed, checked and stuff. Ports SHOULD work.

I would appreciate help! Thank you!

    P. S.
More info; It does not take into account the USB and connects anything, even the little blue light inside the usb key does not illuminate. Its as if she was never plugged on. The other has worked flawlessly on the same port, however. And my USB works on other computers. (Ditto for the P2000, but is not on the P2000.)

I was not able to complete the full implementation of the solution Dell Direct USB key due to various problems.  .    Dell ended up sending me a new Windows 7 HARD disk image.   I have now the laptop up and running again with Windows 7 and have various applications installed.   That's all pretty well.  But now how do I get my data files restored?   Basically, I want to connect the external drive to backup and complete step 19 of the solution, as described below.

Here are the steps OS using the Dell USB key:

    1. Boot from the Direct USB Key by tapping F12 at the Dell logo, then select the
USB Memory Key option from the boot device menu.

    2. Accept the Dell End User License Agreement (EULA) by clicking the box next to
Accept, scroll down till the end of the license agreement and then click on
    continue.

    3. On this screen, the usb key gives an overview of the process it is about to
perform, click continue when ready to proceed.

    4. The Smart Repair solution runs a surface scan on the system to identify any
errors with the boot record or the startup files. If any errors are found, they
    are automatically corrected.

    5. Once the process completes, there will be an analysis summary, in this case,
there is no issue found by the smart repair, click continue.

    6. In this window the user can select what data they would like to back up, they
can either go with the default backup solution or they can click select more to
select more files for backup, click continue after selecting files for backup.

    7. If user clicks on select more, they will get the screen below, they can go
ahead and select the necessary data for backup by checking the box next to the
respective folder, sub-directories are selected by default once the root folder
    is selected.

    8. The user will be prompted to attach a USB hard drive to the system, user
needs to connect the USB Hard drive at this point and click continue.

    9. Once the solution detects the USB hard drive , it goes ahead with file
    backup.

    10. Once the files are backed up, the solution will back up the user personal
    settings.

    11. The Direct USB Key displays a summary of the data and personal settings
    backup. Click continue.

    12. The Direct USB key then proceeds to install the operating system image on
    the system.

    13. Once the operating system image is transferred, the drivers are also
    transferred.

    14. After the operating system image and driver transfer, a summary page comes
up giving the user information as to what process was performed successfully and
what failed. The user needs to remove the USB key at this point and click
    restart.

    15. The system restarts and comes to a flash screen on recovery and restore.

    16. After the flash screen, the applications start installing.

    17. Once the applications are installed, the user would see a summary screen
informing them that the Operating system has been restored, connect the Direct
    USB Key and click restart.

    18. After the restart the user will be prompted to connect the data backup hard
    drive and then click continue.

    19. The files and personal settings are then restored from the USB backup drive.

    20. After the files are transferred the system comes to the desktop with a pop
up window informing the user to check the device manager for any exclamation
marks, the tool also guides the user to download the drivers from the support
site and the applications from My Dell Downloads and Dell Digital Delivery. User
needs to select the check box to prevent the message from being displayed again
    and click close.

    Hello

Thank you for the update on the issue. I appreciate your time and effort in resolving this issue.

You can try the following methods and check if it helps.

    Method 1:

You can use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment (Windows RE) to troubleshoot and repair the following items in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

    • A master boot record (MBR)
    • A boot sector
    • A Boot Configuration data (BCD) store

Note: When you are troubleshooting startup issues by using the Windows RE, you should first try the Startup Repair option in the System Recovery Options dialog box. If the Startup Repair option does not resolve the problem, or if you must troubleshoot more steps manually, use the Bootrec.exe

Use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/927392

If the problem persists, proceed to method 2.

    Method 2:

    Please follow these steps:

    1. Tool command prompt open in the mode of the Windows recovery environment .
    2. You will see X:\Sources
    3. Type chkdsk c:\ at the flashing prompt to launch the utility Chkdsk. replace c:\ with the letter of the drive that you want to run the Chkdsk utility. If the hard drive is d:\, then type that instead.
    4. After the "chkdsk c:\. "insert \f command to fix errors on the disk volume or the \r to recover bad sectors and then press ENTER.
    5. Restart the computer once the chkdsk command has completed.

Note: Running chkdsk on the drive if bad sectors are found on the hard drive, it attempts to repair this sector, if all available on which data may be lost.

Cr2 files on a USB key in order to merge it with another catalog and archive it on my main PC.   However, whenever I export, the catalog on the USB drive still made reference to all on the first hard disk image files, so I have a small exclamation mark errors in metadata on the thumbnails when I open the catalogue exported on HomePC.

Lightroom's smart enough.  If I show where ONE of the images are, he finds OTHER IMAGES * in the same folder *.    It's great... but this does not solve my problem completely because there are like 18 subfolders.   I really don't have to do 18 times.

THE QUESTION: Is it possible I can move/export entire * subtree * without having to learn Lightroom 18 times where each subdirectory is?

    Thank you!

PS - I have NOT checked 'export negative files' because I assumed this will create DNG... and I'd rather just keep the CR2s and XMPs I already have with subfolders that I already have. (maybe I use this wrong?)

It is exactly what you need to do.

It won't move the RAW files, it copy to the target, USB in your case.
