• Bare metal to VM and network lost settings

  Customer site, IBM System x 3650 running VMware ESX Server 3i in turn four servers to Windows Server 2003.

  Customer has decided on this approach for the DRP.  Three of the servers have been made VMs of bare metal servers back to Headquarters.  A problem noted with raising in the virtual machine environment is that they have lost the original network settings - which is logical given the fact that the adapter is different.  But it would be nice if it were the case that is static, gateway IP address and DNS settings could be part of the virtual network adapter settngs machine.  What are the options?  This is adjustable during the construction of the virtual machine?  Or is it possible to create a virtual adapter to a bare metal Server?  Others?

  As Erik said, remove all the drivers and hardware (com ports, serial, floppy disk, NIC ports, etc.) of the virtual machine. Among the pitfalls that you may experience after the P2V is sometimes the old IP settings are required to and you can even assign the same virtual IP address to the new network card because windows has this IP linked to the old physical card. That's when you need to run the "show no present devices ', so that you can remove the old nic in Device Manager for the news of the intellectual property contained in the output register. You might have to restart the virtual machine that you can assign the IP address to the new virtual card.

• 4 computers on a local network, lost the ability to access cd players and DVDs on all stations

All are dell Windows XP computers.  All react the same and as near as I can tell they have all had this problem at the same time.  I have Microsoft Office 7 on a computer, it was Id'ed as not valid, I got the program to a computer repairman, who when questioned said that the keys were valid, he contacted Microsoft and they were in an oral discussion on the keys, and he gave me a new program still in its original packaging with the keys , but I can't load because of the readers of cd is inaccessible. I get a code 41 trying to find records

  My tech computer repair understood that there are double entries in the registry for the cd dvd players, which occurred since an update of the microsoft driver.  Computer Dell motherboards have been loaded with a different driver than most DVD cd and the update does not remove the old of the registry.  As soon as it has been deleted all computers were able to access cd dvd players.  One would think if Microsoft caused the problem they could send an update to fix or put an alert for us who have problems on how to solve this problem.

  I know a company that had the same problems, and they bought 4 new computers because their technology could not find the problem.  Quite expensive on the site on the part of Microsoft.  Bill could have made as much profit if they fix their mistakes and do it just with those who have lost money.  I turned down several jobs due to no cd dvd access myself, but at least I didn't panic and buy new computers.

  Hello guys. I am preparing to a lab for testing only environment. I have an ESXi 5.0 installed on my machine, it works very well with the Integrated NIC, no problem at all. But I want to use a virtual machine second for the purposes of the router + WiFi access point, so I bought a TP-LINK Model: TL-WN781ND, it's a NIC of Wireless N 150 Mbps unfortunately ESXi 5.0 does not seem to recognize it so I can't assign to any virtual computer.

  My question is:

  Is it possible to install a driver for the NETWORK card is recognized by ESX? Or at least move the PCI-E port to the guest VM and it manages (the driver etc.)

  Since the latest drivers provided by VMware, WiFi cards are not supported.

  That leaves us the possibility of giving a PassThrough to the virtual machine using DirectPath

  You must enable VT - D in your BIOS > configuration of the processor so its a intel and IOMMU if its an AMD processor and condition your card network is supported under VMware VMDirect taken supported hardware http://communities.vmware.com/docs/DOC-11089

  While many non-supported hardware is still working under DirectPath, you should give it a try to see if your card works

  I have a lot of Sony products (TV, Blu - ray player and home theater system) I want to combine, on a home network. Currently I have the Blu - ray player and a DishNetwork device which is connected to the satellite receiver when connected to my home wireless router with my computer and the printer. I also have a Bravia Link equipment connected to my TV, but it requires a wired ethernet connection. I would like to know if I moved the router next to the TV and plugged the Bravia Link into one of the ethernet ports (not internet one), would this work? If so, how would I set up, as there is a SSID and password? It would require an internet connection just put in place? It appears on the list of the devices connected to the router which appears on my computer? I hope I explained this right. Thank you.

• Network lost after restart of host settings

  I have vcenter that works as a virtual machine on host #1 (vsphere 4.1 u1)

  I used vcenter to configure networking on the host #1 and was able to connect to the San and run a virtual machine of the SAN.

  About 10-15 minutes later, I stop the virtual machine of vcenter, put the host in maintenance mode and rebooted the host.

  After startup, the host no longer has network (vswitches, iscsi, config, etc.) settings and as such, cannot see SAN data warehouses.

  I do not understand why this has happened.

  I had already installed 4.1 on my other 2 hosts literally 10 minutes before it happened, and now I have an unpleasant feeling in the pit of my stomach.

  Using ESX or ESXi?

  Because ESXi works in the virtual disk, and it updated the config files not in real time.

  I have a couple of servers that were on esxi 3.5. I had to convert them to vmware server 2 and now the network cards are gone. In devices, under map network, connected to the network bridged on server is grayed out. I tried to remove and re-add the adapter as well as for changing of bridged to the host.

  You need to resolve dependencies as tools needs to be recompiled. The kernel-source (headers) and gcc are required.

• Editing a document in Microsoft Mail link. Lost changes.

  I opened a RTF file attached to an e-mail message. I made changes to the file and use CTRL-S to save the changes. I closed the document. When I opened it the document changes had disappeared.

  Please try Bruce. CTRL-S was in MS Word. Word never requested a new file name or location. I tried the same procedure in Word and Outlook and Outlook tells me the message has changed and I want to save the changes. MS Mail said not a thing. Lesson learned the hard way. :-(

• VPNClient connects, but fail links network

  I configured a PIX 501 to support one connection VPNclient. The customer reports a connection and client stats page shows an address from the pool of addresses. I see only encrypted traffic, but none decrypted traffic.

  The PIX has 2 ACL (sheep & vpn3) supporting the connection of the pool inside subnet subnet. I can't ping in both directions.

  Where should I start this curious? I have a trace of isakmp debug if it is useful.

• Wireless network lost after restore

  My daughter has restored its Inspiron E1505 advice of a friend.  Everything what she remembers is one of the keys F pushing in the direction of his friend. I had to reinstall the Windows XP CD and a CD of resources.  The computer cannot find an internet connection.  He had a wireless connection prior to the restoration.  I connected by ethernet to the modem in the modem CD but a window come without installed ethernet card.  I know she used ethernet movement at the College.  I tried to do another restore by using the Ctrl + F11 key and got nothing.  I have minimal experience with computers, any suggestions?

  Don't know where to post this - I have a NSLU2 to link network storage which worked perfectly for 2 years - so this week I am unable to access the drive attached to this device.  I can browse the disk via the web interface, but it will take time to Looooooonnnnggggg to open, and then save one file else where.  How to re-establish a connection via my network places WITHOUT losing any data?

  I live in Israel and how I get internet home is via a special modem that is also a router, this whole box is called HotBox.

  The quality of this refrigerator is VERY bad, but it's the only way to get internet here...

  Since I was little systems in my house requiring some specific open ports (smart home hub and dvr security cameras) the hotbox is really bad with the opening of the ports so I had to do a bridge inside mode, so it works as a modem and connected on it (some not expensive tp-link I'll change with time) an extra to work as opening and router port solution router.

  so far, it works fine.

  The House is large in the territory and I thought the best solution to extend the internet into an area away from the House, the basement which has thick walls and wifi signal is difficult to achieve...

  The inside of the wall, I have an ethernet cable that goes from the main tp-link router in the basement and there I connected a time capsule Airport (model 2014 if it made a difference, the new type of orders one) which gives wifi in the basement and an additional airport specially for the single harder.

  Everything works fine but a small thing, in the upper part of the House, I have Tp-link network (say 1) and in the basement, I have a different time capsule (Network2) wifi network.

  My question is how can I do the work of the entire system on a single network?

  I have to do the time capsule as a bridge or configure it somehow differently?

  Or is it still possible to do?

  Change the name of the network wireless on the Time Capsule so that it will be exactly the same as the name of the TP-Link network.

  In the example below, you can see the name of my wireless network is TWNDB. If I wanted to change the name, I change / move back the current name and then type the new name I wanted to use.
