  Microsoft has done a little easier download the Win 8.1. ISO. I'm not positive if a key win 8 will work. The site, at the bottom, seems to suggest a key Win 8 will allow you to download Win 8.1.

  After a recent windows update I get this message to appear on things by saying the my product key is invaild. I have had this pc for a few years now and never had this problem. I do not know the product key, I bought my PC at Staples, and everything has been put in place in the store I don't even have my OS CD.   I suggest to contact Microsoft customer support Service.  They will have the product key needed to solve your problem.  All they need to do is determine that yours is a valid copy of Windows.
