Locking the computer on the lid close?

Microsoft will never include the option 'lock the computer' as an action to close the cover in their operating systems? The current options are only 'status quo', "shut down", "hibernate" and "sleep". People have asked for this year. It is very easy to do under Linux. Why Microsoft cannot accomplish this?
1) go to regedit > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager\Power
(2) right click > new > DWORD (32-bit)
(3) change the name to AwayModeEnabled
(4) select > right click > change the value (hexadecimal) 1
5) go to the Power Options settings page and change the action close the lid to sleep.
It worked for me!

  • Tecra M9 crashes when the apparatus or the lid close on Windows Vista Business

    Hello

I have a Tecra M9 with Windows Vista business, and when I close the lid on the laptop that Windows puts on hold. When I open the lid, although wakes up the computer screen but it crashes.

Even if I have the machine on the docking station when I disconnect the machine crashes.
Any ideas? Any help much appreciated.

    Hello

I don't know what you mean in crashes, but I know that this can happen after the standby/hibernation mode, that this sound card is not recognized correctly. To resolve this problem, you must install the hotfix for Microsoft Vista (937077 KB) on the Microsoft network site: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/937077

Just a question: have you noticed this problem since the first day or after a few days of use?

  • MacBook Pro stops when the lid closes, loses the open tabs and background image...

    Hi all

I recently had a new hard drive installed in my 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro. I am running El Capitan 10.11.2. Since then, my computer cuts automatically to the bottom when the lid is closed, losing all Web pages, and for some reason, some background, I've saved. (My browser is Mozilla Firefox and it prompts you to restore me the tabs lost, which he will).

The led standby does not blink or light up when the computer is turned on, it will turn on only at startup. At startup, the login page is displayed, and after that I entered my password it takes about 15 to 25 seconds to load and open my account. What is going on?!

    Summary:

Stop when the lid is closed,

Loses the background image & open Web pages.

    Standby blinks only when starting,

Time of loading extended after logging into my account.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a lot for reading.

  • New Yoga 14 stops when the lid closes

I just got a new series of Yoga 14. Sometimes, but not always, the laptop stops when I close the lid, even when it is plugged. I already looked at the option to 'choose what happens when the lid is closed' and it is set to sleep, no downtime.

Any ideas on how to solve this problem.

    Hi Nickajeglin,

    Welcome to the Forums

According to the request, we understand that you are facing problem with the system stops when the lid is closed in your Lenovo 14 yoga.

  • A Wi - Fi connection turns off when the lid closes, turns on when the lid opens

On my Dell Latitude E6510 the Wi - Fi turns itself off when I close the lid and turn on automatically come back when I open the lid.

I have power management in Win7 set to do NOTHING when I close the lid while operating on current alternative, but by closing the lid again stop Wi - Fi.

I'd rather have stay wi - fit with the lid closed so that the laptop will remain on my home network, but I can't find any setting make the wi - fi turned on.

Am I missing something or is just something that Latitude always does - none of my previous laptop Dell ever did that.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried.

However, in case someone else has the same problem later and find this thread, I found a solution.  Turns out the problem be that I was using own software Dell to manage the adapter Wi - Fi. The Dell software has some settings but none with either power off Wi - Fi or by closing the lid.  When I went to let Windows manage the Wi - Fi adapter, the problem disappeared.

  • Computer locking when I close the lid

I have a laptop sony vaio vgn-aw290. When I got it after you have configured the fingerprint reader it would lock the computer when I closed the lid. If I close and open it immediately and it would make me a password. He wouldn't buy support standby or hibernation, it would simply lock the computer. recently, we went to panama, fl on vacation and this feature no longer works. don't know why or how or exactly when. I looked through the settings and power options and may not know how to re - set parameters to lock the lid closed. I also have an HP that has begun to stay unlocked when I close the lid. I would like to know how to configure it to crash when the lid closes, so I don't need the screen saver locks with a password to send it in stand-by or press win + L before I close the lid.

    Hi Mr. Folse,.

Thank you for visiting Windows Vista Microsoft answers forum.

You can follow the procedure below to change the Power Options.

    1. Click Start, then Control Panel.

2 double click on Power Options.

    3. under "Advanced", set the option "When I close the lid of my portable computer" according to your preferences.

If the steps above fail then I suggest to run a system restore to a date when the option was working properly.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

  • How to lock your laptop when the lid is closed.

Hi, I would like to know how to lock the computer when I close my laptop something similar to press windows + L. I don't want to put my laptop in prolonged standby/sleep mode and do not want to set a screen saver due to watching movies and other. Surely, there is a parameter that can be tweaked to make this happen if it is not a visible option?

Because you don't want your laptop to sleep/hibernate just by closing the lid, the only way to lock your computer click Start and close this computer or windows logo press L and then close the lid of your laptop

    Hope this info helps

  • Satellite U - Vista starts when the lid is closed

    Hello

    The title says it all!

My girlfriend showed me her cell phone yesterday. She manually stop it on the start menu, leave for a few minutes, close the lid, then watches in joy as the computer laptop Springs revive again.

I checked and the judgment indeed makes a stop, not a hibernation or something like that. I also changed the lid closed to "nothing" action and "stop" and I tried various methods to stop this strange behavior. My only solution was to have vista recognize the lid close like a stop action and have this control by turning off the laptop. Unfortunately, my girlfriend is a woman of routine and like to manually turn off the laptop before closing the lid, so my solution is not a long-term one.

One thing that I've seen is that she had managed to install Uniblue Registry Booster. I quickly removed it, but wonder if it could have changed his behaviour of the laptop? Surely the fact if boots up when it is turned off when the lid is closed could not be attributed to Vista or whatever it is that was done for her?

    Thank you

    Hello

Well, as far as I know the power of setting energy saver button is official on Shut down

In addition, you can go to the--> Power Options Control Panel.

  • Computer will not be put into hibernation when I close the lid

I have a problem with my laptop. It is a series of Toshiba C55. When I close the lid it will not be in hibernation, even if I set power options to do so. This happens not all the time, but it happens enough that it's boring. If I close the lid and it will not be in hibernation, which means that it is in danger of overheating if I put in my backpack. If I use the start menu, it just goes to the lock screen, that's what I suspect it is when I close the lid. Help on that would be great.

Open Power Options - you can do it from the control panel by typing Power Options in the start menu, or by right click on the battery icon in your system tray (right end of the taskbar.)
Click on "change plan settings" for your current power management.  On the next page, click "Change advanced power settings".  On the box that opens, expand 'Power buttons and lid', then 'action close cover.'  Change the selection to "on battery" to the 'status quo', and then click OK.  Close the power Plan window.

If the problem is not resolved, restart the system and press f2 to enter the BIOS - close the lid and open again and check if the system stops, and it stays on in BIOS mode.
